This place is located on the West side of 59th Ave just North of Bell Rd. There are other photos of the inside and menus with prices. It is fairly small, about 3 booths and some other tables. The day we went they were a little short staffed. They had the one guy taking orders and doing the cooking. Not sure if that is the way it normally is but it did slow things down. If you are taking out, you should probably order ahead before you get there. The food was really good. The gyro and the falafel (see photos) were excellent. I also tried the Philly chicken (see photo) but that was a little bland. I should have gone with the Shawarma. The gyro was definitely worth it. The cilantro jalapeño hummus was a good variation. Babaghanouj was a good serving size.

Got takeout but definitely will be back to dine in - they have a bunch of old photos and Chicago decor on the walls and it smelt AMAZING inside. Love the vibes! The portion of the combo plates is definitely enough for two full meals which I love! Their gyro meat is so flavorful! I wish hummus came with the plate but the small side was around $3 so not bad. The hummus was relatively bland but I think you can order different flavors and we just got the traditional so I will definitely try the other flavor next time! Loved all the other sauces that were included & the rice was delicious! The two people that were working there were very pleasant when we ordered and picked up our food as well.

This is menu item #1. For starters, the place is really clean and well kept. The customer service is phenomenal. I've had Gyros all over Glendale, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert and central Phoenix area; this is by far the best tasting place. You really do get more than you pay for. Most places are either really expensive $14-17 a gyro combo and don't give you a lot of meat. Al's is very generous with their meat portions and for only $11 you get the full combo. The toppings/dressing are on the bottom. The French fries are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Seriously you need to try it here.

Clean, dated interior, tables worn. SALAD WITH CHICKEN had great flavor. the dressing was perfect, too many fried "pita croutons" for me. HUMMUS WITH GRILLED VEGGIES was disappointing. The vegetables were previously frozen and tasted like it. Fresh green pepper and onion, but they overcooked because the frozen stuff had to cook longer and were much larger pieces. The HUMMUS was so smooth and was well presented on the plate. Needed, lemon, garlic, and salt. The SERVICE they took and served my order. I did not see them other then that?? I won't be back. Grilled chicken was very tasty. I feel like fresh grilled vegetables would've turned the whole thing around.

Ordered Chicago Gyros and some Dolmas. Waited almost 30 minutes for the food to come out and annoyingly two groups of people behind us somehow got their food first. Fortunately, the Chicago Gyros tasted really good, but the dolmas were not as good. So, overall....gyros was great but service sucked. read more

Thoroughly full! Yummy Mediterranean/ Greek food. My boyfriend had the chicken gyro plate. It came with rice and salad. The saffron rice was delicious. He actually let me try it. I had the vegetarian plate. It was so filling. It came with hummus, baba ganoush, dolmas, falafel, and pita. They also gave us lentil soup. We took home leftovers. Great local restaurant! read more

Found this place by accident after going bowling down the street. I have had the hardest time finding good Greek food in Phoenix. I've gone to pretty much every one within a 15 mile radius of my house - from fancy/spancy places in Scottsdale to dives) and I have found only one place Greek restaurant that I like that I go back to over and over again. But now it's officially TWO Greek places, with Al's Gyros restaurant going on this very short list. I've had several of their plates, but at the end of the day it's the hummus and gyro meat that get me, and this place just does it perfect on those two things. Good portions, pricing is right on, fresh made to order, clean environment, the staff is great (I think I get the same guy...big personality, younger guy), etc. I've actually been there several times now and only after going tonight did I think that maybe I should finally get around to writing a review. I think it's family owned... I hope so, which is a big thing to me. read more

59th and Bell is a bit of a food desert. The area has the usual suspects, Mickey D's, Mexican phone company, Wendy's, Subway, etc. Even with my high tolerance for the aforementioned slices of Americana fast food, I needed something unique on a Phoenix Saturday afternoon with the top of the Z down and the P looking cute with her red hair tucked up under a "Got Wine?" baseball cap. Out comes the Iphone and similar in color to the big red S on my chest, I punched the Yelp icon on my home screen. Nearby, tucked between a Subway and Island Teriyaki is Al's Gyro's. The P was game and so was I. Despite a very impressive menu, we both opted to go with the Gyro plate which comes with, surprise, a Gyro, a Greek salad, and a drink. The Gyro was pure comfort food for each of us. Truly one of the best Gyros each of us have had in the Valley. The pita was terrific, the portion size is huge, and the tzatziki sauce is excellent, thick and flavorful. The salad was tasty and authentic. A small word of warning, the Kalamata olives are NOT pitted so don't just bite down on them, you might lose a tooth. The service was pleasant, food came out quickly, fun photos of old Chicago on the wall-I'll definitely return. Next time, I'm going for the Chicago dog, it might just be the ticket to up my rating to a solid five stars. Well done, Al! read more

Best gyro I have had since I left Oregon two years ago. Just proves once again that you should never dismiss a strip mall restaurant. I did a quick stop in here to get some food on my way to a class. Honestly, without the glowing Yelp reviews, I don't know that I would have come here. (It's no one's fault but strip mall restaurants just aren't appealing. And it's a shame because that's where a lot of the good family-owned places are.) Service was fast and my chicken wrap was fantastic. I think they might put crack in their tzatziki - I could eat a bowl of it. The chicken was tender and extremely flavorful. I am in the area frequently and look forward to returning when I'm a little less rushed. read more

With there being so many mediterranean restaurants in the metro area I have tried several and wanted to try this place. My wife had a Falafel Pita which has 4 pieces of falafel, lettuce , tomatoe and cucumbers. They were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Not much seasoning which made them pland. The tzatzki sauce was needed to purk up the pita. I had a pink garlic sauce from my dish that was wierd but had good flavor to mix and match with the tzatzki sauce. I had the Chicken Greek Salad. The chicken was pounded flat to make it tender. There were 4 mid size pieces of chicken with lettuce , tomatoe, cucumbers, feta cheese, olives and oil and vineger dressing. Very flavorful. Most places would have included a pita with the salad but you had to pay and extra $0.95 for it. I was kind of dark in the seating area but there was social distancing in the restaurant. I will give Al's another try to find something different to taste. read more

Was in a hurry, had a lot going on and needed something kinda quick. This place was closest to all my errands. I'm SO glad I stopped. This location is a little tucked away but the food and service is phenomenal!!! The location is clean, managed, friendly, and the food is simply DELICIOUS!!! If you have a chance, stop by. This is a regular lunch spot from work. I personally always get their lunch special, gyro sandwich with fries. Let me also add that they aren't cheap with their gyro meat. They stuff that pita! Great flavor and definitely one of the more greasy and oily gyro meat I've tried in the valley. Worth the try and it's noteworthy If you have a short time for lunch, call your order in ahead, this saves me easily 5-7minutes every time. read more

Great food and nice staff. They have a great lunch specials ($6.99 gyro, fries and a drink). I had that as well as some wings. Wings could've been spicer, but they were still good. The food is amazing! If you don't place an order ahead of time for pickup, you might have to wait a bit, but man, I don't mind. I always go in for the Hummus Pita & Greek fries. My husband does the gyro platter and both are great! Also the customer service is superb, always friendly & willing to accommodate our orders. This little spot is def worth a try. Close to home & work.Fast online ordering.Friendy counter service. Ordered gyro platters & beef to go ..The meat was tasty and tender.Lots of rice ,good size portions although I'd like a bit more tomatoes & onions. Only con is directional parking...You can only go one way, if all the spaces are taken, you've got to drive around the whole building or go back out into traffic. Otherwise my local go to for gyros, will be back for more. read more

Probably the best stop for kebabs/gyros/falafel etc. in the Glendale area. Great for lunch if you work at Honeywell or are a student at Midwestern or something. I got the gyro plate but was charged a bit more than expected, not sure why and didn't make a fuss over a couple bucks, but just be aware the pricing may not be accurate. The gyro was excellent, however, and the yogurt sauce was on point. Portions are very hefty. read more

Honestly the best falafel I've had. Light inside, crispy outside, and not at all greasy. We go here all the time with friends and we've never had a bad dish. This place has the best gyros in the whole state hands down. Nowhere is even close. I moved to Arizona 7 years ago and couldn't find a good gyro until I found this place. The French fries are also very good golden and crunchy not undercooked. Highly recommend. read more

The food was good. I won't be eating here again though. Went on Thursday and is Ed my cash card. No one was in the place but me. It's a new card and I haven't used it anywhere but there. We came from Chicago in June and took over this wonderful restaurant. We are true Chicago-ans. Our Gyros, Hotdogs, Italian Sausage, and Gonella Rolls come from Chicago. Come in and let us know if your from Chicago.

To give credit where it's due, the ambience of the restaurant was great. The live music was enjoyable and the dancing created a fun atmosphere. The women's restroom was also impressive -- clean, well stocked, and the mirror with the neon sign made for a great photo moment. Unfortunately, the service and food did not live up to the setting. Our waitress appeared overwhelmed and, at times, came across as outright rude. I understand the pressures of working in a busy restaurant, but hospitality is still the foundation of the service industry. I actually found myself going out of my way to "kill her with kindness" just to avoid receiving the same snarky tone she used with some of my friends. It worked -- she was civil with me -- but it shouldn't take that level of effort from guests. The food was where things really fell apart. The buffet setup was poorly executed. The foil buffet pans repeatedly slipped into the chafing water, which ended up soaking the food. Any experienced food service professional knows the proper way to handle this: bring the replacement pan first and swap them out simultaneously. Instead, the staff removed the empty pans and walked back to the kitchen, leaving empty slots in the buffet while guests waited. As a result, several dishes were compromised. The mac and cheese was completely runny, clearly diluted from water getting into the pan. This happened to multiple items. The fried pickles were also a miss -- not crispy, extremely salty and sour, and tasted like low-quality hamburger dill pickle chips that had been breaded and fried. No one at our table enjoyed them and several people commented that they were far too tangy. There also seemed to be serious communication issues between the kitchen and the floor staff. Buffet items were frequently empty and slow to be replaced. The "salad," if you could call it that, was essentially a bowl of lettuce with no tomatoes, cucumbers, or vegetables -- just plain greens. Toward the end of service, the restaurant even ran out of dinner plates, leaving remaining guests to use small salad plates. The only items I somewhat enjoyed were the margarita pizza flatbread and the bacon jalapeño wontons, which were decent but nothing memorable. Beyond that, my meal consisted mostly of a bowl of very uninspired lettuce. As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry, it genuinely pains me to leave such a critical review. I don't write this out of spite, but out of hope that management sees it as an opportunity to evaluate what's happening on the floor and in the kitchen. There is clearly potential here given the atmosphere and entertainment. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I don't see myself returning anytime soon.

I'm of two minds about Al's Gyros. I'd been visiting regularly and was consistently impressed by the incredible steak schwarma and top-tier garlic sauce. However, my recent experiences have been marred by inconsistent service. The male manager is exceptionally kind, always greets me with a smile, and generously offers a military discount without hesitation. On the other hand, the female staff member who's often at the register bluntly says "no" to that. When I ask for extra garlic sauce, he's happy to provide it, while she insists on charging extra and does so with a noticeable lack of warmth. It's a coin toss every time I visit - will I get his friendly, welcoming service or her cold, unfriendly treatment? Despite the excellent food, the inconsistent service has dropped my rating to 3 stars, and I'm probably not going back anytime soon. read more

They off free delivery within reasonable distance!!! The food is wonderful they have a special going on throughout the rest of December offering $4.99 gyro combo special which includes one side and a soda pop!!! There meat is in gracious amounts almost enough for two people. Kitchen is the cleanest kitchen I've ever seen. Staff is very friendly from my understanding is almost all family run! Great food for a very low cost. I bring my family in to eat at least once a week if not more. P.S. FAST SERVICE!!! read more
