This review is for the Lake location that conveniently shut down a week after I got service done on my car. My car was overheating, they told me they knew why, replaced the part, and then called me a day later saying it's still overheating. They clearly misdiagnosed the issue, ended up charging me $700 for what was supposed to be $300 with labor in the beginning. When I went to pay they only took cash or Zelle. Super weird, I've gone to them several times and they took card... The Zelle I sent was to a random guys name (I should've known better) and when I asked them to show me what they replaced under the hood, it was stuck shut and they couldn't open it! I never had an issue with the hood before and the guy who was in charge of the payment was blaming me and not taking accountability. They told me to come back an hour later and finally got it open. I can't believe I received the service I did and got scammed out of $700. Bummer, they were a good company but went completely downhill the past year. read more

I brought my car into Al Auto Center in Pasadena to get my rearview mirror fixed, and unfortunately my experience turned into a nightmare. While I was there, I also called to ask for a diagnosis of an issue with my air conditioning. Just a diagnosis, nothing more. Without my authorization, the owner, Jose, went ahead and repaired the AC and then tried to charge me $300 for the work. I made it clear that I never approved any repairs and refused to pay. In response, he "undid" the work but in doing so, he left my AC in worse condition than before, now making strange noises. When I asked him to fix the damage he caused, he refused. The situation escalated to the point where I had to call the Pasadena police and file a report just to document what happened. I later found out the shop recently changed ownership, which explains a lot. I really wish I had seen the recent reviews beforehand, as it seems others have had similar experiences. After everything our community has gone through with the Eaton fire, it's incredibly disappointing to deal with a business that operates this way. I would not recommend this shop to anyone. In my experience, they were dishonest, unprofessional, and performed unauthorized work. read more

One of the biggest scams ever. Beware of this auto center, I only came here because of the reviews and everyone's good experience. But they scammed me out of my money and never got my 300+ dollars back. I brought my car to get it fixed with some minor issues. Kept bringing it back for over a week mind you I had already payed beforehand cause they gave me an estimate. This business is under new ownership and management. I went there to get a quote and I asked for a former employee, which I didn't know he was no longer there. Instead, there was a couple young guys there who really didn't care to give a quote. They handed me off to an older gentleman and he said he didn't have the time at that moment for a quote. I've been coming here for 8 years and have noticed a huge decline in service. I came here to replace one tire that was damaged and the gave me an off road tire that was completely different then the rest. They only offered to take the tire back for half of what I paid. I will no longer be coming back here because of the poor service the last few years. read more

I should have known better than bring in my car during the lunch hour. They were slammed, and it was a bit chaotic finding parking and then even finding someone to speak with. There is no front desk area to check in. There were several people standing around waiting... for...? Their cars to be fixed? Picking up their cars? Who knows. So, like a sheep I joined the masses and stood there, waiting for anyone to acknowledge me. Eventually I saw how the flow worked. There are two garage doors. One is for tires, the other is for repairs. Today, the tire shop had one service guy working, Arturo. So even though I'm a little crabby in this review, I have to say Arturo is a hard working guy. He must have helped at least seven different customers who'd randomly pull in asking for a tire to be replaced, asking for more air... juggling them all so that no one ever got too impatient. Those of us waiting pulled ourselves tightly against the building which offered a whisker of shade... and then Arturo brought me a folding chair. Nice. I purchased Lionhart tires, and they seem to be well reviewed online. The price is definitely right, less than half of what the other discount tire shops are asking. So, it comes to this. The lower price you pay at Al's Auto Center comes with a small cost... but I brought my patience and a hat, and it was worth it. I recommend not coming during the lunch hours. My tires are two hours new and so far so good. As I drive on them in the future, if there are any problems I will update this review. read more

Saturday at 6:35pm we were at a Pasadena Tesla charging station when we noticed one of the tires rapidly dropping pressure. A screw was lodged into the tire on a diagonal. Frantically we quickly jumped on Yelp to see if any tire service centers were still open, thankfully Al's was. I quickly called him and asked if they could help our situation. He said that they would wait for, us but they closed at 7pm. Three cars were ahead of us when we arrived, and only 3 guys still working. Jimmy said I spoke to him on the phone and to not worry that he would take care of us. Not only was he efficient and nice to all of the customers while completing the repairs, he stayed almost 25 minutes past closing to make certain he did take care of us. Thank you Jimmy! read more

I was in dire straits as I knew I needed a patch after finding a flat in the morning and then having it go flat again after filling it with air after a couple hours. I took it to a local service center and they were closed as were other tire places that said they were too busy on a Sunday afternoon. I called Al's and he told me to come in. I was a little shocked they could see me so I made it over. They were finishing with some other clients and also had other people around but they quickly got to me and pulled off the tire and showed me the nail. He then patched it and popped it back on. I paid 25 bucks for the patch and was very happy with it. A good value and good service. Would recommend. read more

Was changing the oil in my Audi S5 and decided to rotate my wheels. That's when I found a fat nail in the tire and was like damn it. I don't have time to deal with this during the work week. So I looked on Yelp to see if there were any tire shops near me that were open on Sundays. That's when I found Al's and called to see if they were free to take walk-ins. Gentleman said yes, so I loaded up the wheel into my other car and drove down. Waited a few minutes for the available tech and he quickly got to work. Depressurized the tire, dismounted the tire and patched the puncture from the inside. I was super grateful that they were open, quick and efficient with the repair. Totally saved my Sunday afternoon. Tire patch was super fair at 20 bucks; and as act of appreciation, gave the tech a 10 buck tip. Thank you! read more

I was actually referred to this shop by a friend who is a life long Pasadena resident. My car was having loud clicking/clacking noises coming from the right rear underside of my car. I showed up at Al's one day and told Arturo what was going on. He said he would diagnose it no problem. I left for a little bit, come back, and my car is up on the rack but he was done with the diagnosis. He tells me that the problem is actually with the front left side axel, where my CV boot had broken and was leaking grease. He showed me the spot and I could see what he was talking about. He quoted me $260 for the parts and $150 for the labor. Ok. Hmmmmm, but what about the rear where I hear all this nose coming from? He tells me he looked at it, but everything appeared to be ok. Sound can sometimes bounce around and he was sure that it was only the front CV boot that needed to be fixed. Well, something just didn't seem right so I had him take my car off the rack and I paid him $60 for the diagnosis I believe. He said that was a discount from the normal $80 or $100 diagnosis fee. Ok, cool, but still, I felt like I needed to have someone else look at it. SURE AM GLAD THAT I DID AND DIDN'T HAVE THIS GUY WORK ON MY CAR. I went to ADVANCE MUFFLE on Walnut and the guys over there run a much better operation. Their mechanic really took the time to look at my right rear wheel where I told Arturo @ Al's that the sound was coming from. The mechanic at ADVANCE MUFFLER did say that the problem wasn't immediately apparent and he would have to take the rear all apart to figure it out.... Ok great, because Arturo @ Al's wasn't even willing to spend that extra time to give my car a proper diagnosis. ADVANCE MUFFLER got my car properly diagnosed: the rear axel simply had too much play and it was causing grease to sling around everywhere. It needed to be replaced as well. Oh, and get this: To fix the Axel in the front I was only quoted $190 in parts, while Arturo @ Al's wanted $260 to "special order" the parts. 2 stars only because I apparently got a discount on the diagnosis. Please don't take your car to Al's and take it over to ADVANCE MUFFLER ON WALNUT IN PASADENA. You can thank me later :-) read more

Do not go here. This a long overdue review. I had a faulty brake job done here and they refuse to rectify the matter. They say someone will call me and they don't. They just dodge calls, visits and letters. I would give them zero stars if I could for the danger they put me and my child in on top of extra expense of having to get the work repaired by another mechanic. I've been coming here for a while now & lately the service has not been the best. If you have an appointment make sure you get it on paper & they call you for follow up. I had an appointment last Wednesday for 6pm & when I showed up the technician Gerardo was still not there. He showed up 35 minutes later with only an "I forgot" excuse. I went back the following day, Thursday, for him to correct an error in the job & he was not at that location. They made me wait 30 minutes & eventually scheduled me for an appointment for Saturday at 10am. I showed up Saturday & as expected the technician was nowhere to be found. They called him and he said he was 30 minutes away. After waiting an hour I asked a worker to call him and he said he was still in traffic. The shop took my name and number to let me know when the technician showed up however to this day I didn't receive a call. I ended up going to Nissan who resolved the issue in 30 mins with no appointment. Hopefully Al's Auto Center is able to work on time management. Don't make appointments if you aren't able to fulfill them. read more
