I took my car to him at closing time on a Saturday afternoon to ask a quick question about my '01 Jetta's electrical. Not only did he address every concern I had, he also stayed after closing to diagnose the problem for free. He took out some tools and electrical meters to assess the issue. He made a few adjustments that stopped the electrical from glitching, explained to me in plain English what was happening and said to drive it for a few days to see if everything was ok. This was the second time I had taken my car to Del Mar Auto. What makes this place unique, is that Hutch takes the time to seek many solutions, and will try them all and charge a fair price. Great place for an oil change! I brought in my lowered Mitsubishi Evolution X (which is already a low car) and they had no problems doing work on it. Jiffy Lube on Walnut was trying to charge me $70 even though I had my own oil and filter, Del Mar Auto did it for $45!! That is the best price I have found in Pasadena, and they checked my tires for free. I was impressed by their car knowledge/passion and friendliness. The Schrader Valve wasn't the issue for my A/C and I found they charged a little more than they quoted. I went back another time for a transmission concern and my car was driven pretty hard. folks beware of this business as it has inexperienced employees and a bad owner who's name is hutch (fake) . I had my car there for them to do a replacement of cv axle and they install the axle wrong and the transmission seal was leaking because of it. when I asked hutch the owner to confirm the issue he wanted to be paid again to fix his employees mistake after going back and forth arguing with the guy he denied any wrong doing. I decided to take it elsewhere where they confirmed that the part in question had not been installed correctly and that's why the car was leaking from the side of the transmission. Where the axle had been removed and replaced when I mentioned this to him in person, he became hostile and rude and told me to get the F. Off his property it appears this guy doesn't check his mechanics work and doesn't know anything about cars, other than how to lie to people with a smile on his face and take their money.. He also double charged me originally the repair for labor should have been $250. He charged me $400 in labor. read more

I saw a HUGE sign for this place that said "Oil Change $20" and quickly pulled in to get it over with. Once I pulled in and asked for an oil change and whether it was really $20, the guy in charge said that there's an disposal fee of some sort that would be around $6 to $7. I already pulled in so was like, okay. But I was a bit annoyed as they advertised on a HUGE sign $20 and then it actually isn't $20. I waited for it to be done and the guy in charge asked me to wait on a bench pretty far away in front of a few disused gas pumps. He was pretty curt about it. The guy who did my oil change did not speak English and I had some questions about my car. One of the pipes on the bottom of my car was hanging down and I wanted to ask about it. There was no one to ask and the guy in charge told me it would be a few hundred bucks to replace. I just asked for him to tape it up somehow and he said they'd take care of it. Which they did, so that was nice. The girl at the front desk asked me a host of information like my address and phone number and I didn't want to give out all this info. I just wanted a quick oil change and be out of there. She was very persistent and when I resisted, she told the guy in charge and they spoke in Armenian and I felt really uncomfortable. Why do I have to give out my cell phone number if I don't want to?? The final bill came to $28.66 including tax. $10 for labor, $17 for parts, and nothing about a disposal fee. I'm not sure how they do their billing or why they would post a HUGE sign that says oil change $20 if they charge $28.66. They should just say, "oil change $28.66" and everyone would be a lot happier. It's not the few extra dollars that bothers me, it's feeling like I can't trust them. Maybe the language barrier also played a huge role, as I cannot understand what they say to each other and I don't know jack about cars to begin. As I paid, the cashier girl gave me a list of things I needed to fix. $225 for tune up and $95 for something called p/s flush. No idea what that means and she was not very good at explaining it. From what I gathered, my car needed some work. I just left with kind of a weird feeling. Would not be back here but they were nice enough to tape my falling pipe back up. So it wasn't all bad. read more

Driving our Ford F350 4X4 with a camper, we were on a road trip to the desert for a week of dispersed camping. While passing through Pasadena on a Sunday afternoon, we experienced concerning issues with the truck front brakes. Fortunately for us a friend lived close by, provided us a place to stay and recommended Del Mar Automotive. First thing Monday morning we talked with Hutch at Del Mar Auto. Understanding we were traveling and essentially stuck, Hutch and his team immediately went to work evaluating the front brakes and bearings. In short time, Hutch diagnosed the issue and provided us a very detailed and clear explanation of the issue. We were back on the road in short time and completed our 800 mile trip.
