Do NOT get your skis tuned here!! First, let me start by saying that I've been taking my skis to Alpine Base and Edge for 5 years now. They have always been professional and done an amazing job. This was NOT the case today. My wife dropped 4 pairs of our skis off this morning to get tuned while I was at work. I got a call from my wife during the middle of the day asking me to call them because she thought the price was steep. So I called the shop and talked to the owner (Peter I believe?) to ask him about the work he planned on doing. I should add that my skis had some dings and 1 core shot but nothing major. I've been skiing my entire life and know when skis in rough shape. Mine were not. He proceeded to tell me that the skis were in the "worst shape he's seen all year" and that they were pretty much "destroyed." He wanted to charge me for 4 core shots (apparently he thinks every scratch is a core shot). The top sheet was also coming off one of the pairs of skis and he wanted to charge $50 to repair this. I questioned this work and he turned defensive tell me that "I didn't know what I was talking about" and that "he was the professional that had been doing this for 30 years" and that I "shouldn't question what he wanted to do." The conversation lasted for about 5 minutes and consisted of him talking down to me and bragging about how no one is as good as him at tuning skis. He told me that he fired all the past employees because, and this is a real quote, "they didn't know what they were doing and were f@#*&ing everything up." Now I understand why I this was the first bad experience I've had at the shop in 5 years - because he took back ownership. So I took my skis over to Neptune Mountaineering who only charged me for one core shot (because I only had 1, not 4) and said it would cost $10 to fix the top sheet (because all it takes is a little epoxy, not $50 worth). Summary - I don't doubt that he is great at tuning skis. However, I absolutely refuse to give business to someone that is so rude to customers. I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGIN. read more

Had a similar service experience as the other reviewers. Went in to try and get a pair of bindings mounted, the guy behind the counter didn't acknowledge me until I went and sought him out. Then after I asked how long the shop was out he gave a curt answer and promptly disappeared back to the back room. Word of advice to Alpine, if you guys want people to come to your little "independent" hole in the wall shop, do something to make people want your service. read more

What a great local resource though! Employees and owner who are passionate about skiing. I'm not a high-performance skier, I snowboard these days, and I'm not really a high-performance snowboarder either. Ha. But you can tell that this is the crowd that we are catering to here. Not that they don't have useful stuff for us average skiers - I didn't see anyone being talked down-to here. You'll see a beautiful store, recently expanded from what I understand. Various areas of skis, poles, some clothing, a good selection of maintenance and repair items! And oh the machines they have in the shop - I dunno what they do, but they sure are pretty. :) Apparently there's an upstairs boot fitting room, I didn't visit. My main experience was attending their waxing clinic (they also offer edge and p-tex clinics) - taught by their employees. I can't say enough good things about making self-repair and understanding of equipment a sharing opportunity for a business. Certainly within skiing, you'd have a lot fewer ignorant customers/equipment owners! I know that at least some of us will learn from the clinic, but still hire someone to do the work. I get a good impression, based on both their floor sale and seeing behind the scenes in the repair shop. If I were looking for somewhere where I thought the tech working on my equipment actually cared and has been around long enough to acquire some skills (through time, experience, training or osmosis), I'd go here. Not that other places are bad, but the shop area is really decked out and a place where mechanics can go to town doing what they do. After saving this review, I'm gonna go put this shop on my Boulder "list". Note - their hours are longer than indicated here on Yelp right now - closing at 8pm many nights. Crappy crap crap. Owner did not acknowledge presence for 30-40 minutes. Place is very small and he had to walk past me several times. We got some gear for kids ski season. We were told that we could return them at the end of the year and get a new set for the next year. After the season, no buy back available as though it never existed. I was fitted for new ski boots at Alpine Base & Edge.....the gentleman spent well over an hour with me. He was truly a miracle worker! I had been so frustrated with my boot experiences over the years, including 3+ pairs bought from BSD (store on Arapahoe). I really wish I had the name of the guy that helped me with my boots.....he made skiing fun again! I was about to give up, but he told me to trust him, I was skeptical as he was recommending a smaller size than I had been in the past. I'm so glad I did! This is a fabulous place to shop filled with well-informed people. Finding race suits for teenagers is never a fun activity. Peter and the crew made it a great experience and were kind enough to go over aspects of the suits that I as a non skier had no idea about. Nice to know that stores like this exist! read more

Had been there before and had a great experience. Went back this year for a different mounting and the owner was incredibly rude not only to me but to another customer. The gentleman behind me just asked you a question, you didn't need to talk smack about him in front of me(while he was outside getting his skis) or any other customer for that matter. Set an example for your employees. You're in a service industry: be knowledgeable, professional and above all courteous. I won't ever return or recommend. read more

Alpine Base and Edge destroyed my snowboard and will not back their work. I took a chance on a new shop in town that claimed superior work at a premium price. When I took my board to Alpine Base and Edge everything was fine from my point of view except for the normal damage from this season. After the tune, the inlay pieces looked like they were about to fall out. I discussed this with them before riding and they felt that damage was common and bound to happen. I rode the board for about 6 runs and all of the pieces are now dragging and falling out. They will not repair this damage. If the board was broken before I went in, I would have liked to know that before I paid for a premium tune. I thought I was working with experts. Now I don't have a snowboard. I do not recommend their services. read more

Very poor experience purchasing or trying to purchase a pair of skis through this outfit online. The owner was horribly rude, your typical fast talking salesman, and showed little regard for anything other than his own frightened little ego. I would never support this kind of person's behavior and would strongly recommend buying elsewhere. read more
