By far the best snowboard shop in Boulder... I was just about to go into a long rant about snowboard tune ups and bindings - then I was temporarily distracted by some guy name Joe's long rant on a bizarre credit card sale rant... And I've got to say ( after a long laborious career in retail) - no shop would or should ever take a card number like that over the phone. It's completely illegal and sounds like a major scam for some CU kid to call with a credit card and get a free set up. Moving on.. Back to my bindings. I recently took in my board for a wax and tune up to the dudes at Satellite, and Raul, one of the owners was cool enough to look at my stance after we started talking about our mutual knee and ankle issues. Getting old and still shredding is tough on the body. Raul suggested that after years of riding a really wide duck stance, I should narrow it significantly to reduce the pressure off my outer knees, and also centered my bindings better to make riding over all easier. I've got to say, after riding a bunch of days last week, I was feeling pretty good, and not noticing that same old pain. That's what comes from years of experience and coaching- and buying our products from a shop whose owners actually ride. That's the difference between just buying stuff online without trying it and having it set up properly. Support your local shop and go in and say hi. They want to keep people snowboarding in Colorado and are working hard to do so. Oh, and that dude Aaron with the crazy looking beard is usually pretty nice too, and I hear he gives good hugs? I just discovered the Satellite Board Shop (close to the Valmont and 30th street intersection) They've been in business for 22 years and I'm sorry I didn't know about them sooner. I've easily driven by their shop thousands of times and never payed attention enough to notice their shop... A friend mentioned that I should check them out to get some help with trying to get my new snowboard set up. They are by far the best snowboard/skateboard/sneaker business I've been in. So glad that I found them and I can avoid the large corporate stores that have similar products but lack the expertise and outstanding customer support that Satellite has. Another major plus shopping there is that it's a locally owned business and the money I spend there will stay in our community. Just wish I found them sooner. Every time I go into the store, I end up staying a while. I feel like each time I learn something new. The staff is very knowledgeable and will spend all the time you want talking about snow and skateboarding. I also go to this shop because I know that all of the tuning for my snowboard will be done perfectly. Last time I took my board in, I had gotten stuck in some rocks and I could almost see the wood, I had torn through all the protective coating, not to mention the wax. When I got it back I could barely tell where it had happened. The board looks like new. I'm very thankful that I have a local place where I can go and not only purchase all of my equipment and gear but also I feel welcomed and I know I will walk out with a great product. read more

These guys are great. I'm a beginner snowboarder only having been on the slopes a few times. I came in with a bunch of equipment my friends had given me that needed some replacement parts and the board needed a wax and edge sharpen. They did a great job with a 1 day turnaround and helped me set up my bindings correctly to get me going. They had the replacement part in stock for the bindings as well which mean I didn't have to wait a few days! Highly recommended. read more

The return policy at Satellite is store cred only, no exceptions. even 15 mins after the transaction when the sale can easily be voided. This place seems a little more interested in $ then riding. I was sold a pair of shoes that had been on the demo rack. I didn't notice until the shoes were out in the sun, but there was a gash on the suede. I try to return them, but the manager Aaron was not about to allow that. Once I challenged him on the policy with just a little pressure, he popped! These are actual threats from the store manager Aaron Wilson during the engagement: "I could break your face" "If I was not back here, I'd take you to the lot and kick your ass" then he said, "I'm a nice guy". Ha! which is it guy, nice or punk? got some issues to work out I guess... I ask for his name multiple times, but he just hid behind his nappy red beard. Then said he was me for awhile, weird. He also pretended that he could not remember what he just said about kicking my ass. dude, at least stand by your own words and own your actions. The owner Raul ignored my emails about this problem, so I guess they just like it that way at satellite board shop. If you like good service by people more interested in the culture, then I suggest Meta Skate shop. Otherwise if you like it PUNK, head to satellite board shop. -they'll break your face! maybe, that should be their moto. read more

I was in here yesterday, getting a gift for one of my boyfriend's besties. Just to set the scene, I don't know the kid very well at all, but I was invited to the birthday party and I'm a gift giver. I opted for a six-pack and some sort of skate accessory, bearings were the suggestion of a friend of mine and that is what I went for. Now, I can recognize the words "bearings," "bushings," "trucks" etc but I wouldn't know a good set of any of them on my own. That is where Dan came in. Great guy, when I called ahead and told him what I was looking for, what the situation was, how much I wanted to spend he steered me to a product he thought was best. Turns out, yeah, it really was the best, even what the Birthday Boy already uses. When I got there a little while later I introduced myself as the Clueless Girl that Called about Bearings This Morning, he got the ones he suggested straight away and gave me a mini explanation of their pros and cons. (Any retail employee that'll tell you the downsides of a product is pretty darn rad in my book) I've been on a skateboard about a dozen times in my life, but I will definitely come back here when I finally decide to buy one. The guys here don't have any of that I'm-so-frickin'-cool-cuz-I-got-into-this-when-I-was-eight-years-old angsty attitude and are really willing to help you out. read more

This was the first skateshop I went to when I arrived in boulder, years later it remains the best skateshop I have ever stepped into. The staff here is incredible, everyone knows exactly what they're talking about and are there to help find the best things for you, not simply trying to profit off of you. The environment in here is also impeccable, there's a tv playing skate videos that fits in perfectly as well as a mini ramp in the back. Definitely the best skate/snowboard shop in CO. These days it's easy to shop online and sometimes even find better deals than you would in a store. However, you don't get the honest opinion of guys that have actually ridden/tried the product you're asking about. Satellite is the most core shop there is, owned by skateboarders/snowboarders who probably try out everything they bring in, no joke, everytime I ask Raul or J.G. or any of the people working if they've ridden this board or tried these boots it seems like they always have, and have detailed responses on what they thought. They're not afraid to give you the pros and cons and tell you what they thought of something compared to another product, afterall not everything is better or worse, a lot of the times it's just different, and these guys know how it's different and will explain it to you, so you get the best set up for what you like to do. Not to mention they get products nobody else can get, certain collabs, etc. I've gone to snowboard shops all over and often some of the employees put off a "too cool" vibe, not the case here, everyone is genuine and passionate about helping you find the right stuff. Plus they are really good at remembering you, what you bought, asking you how you like it which is by far the best service I've had in any industry. Beyond hosting the event and supporting young entrepreneurs, Satellite provided the location, tents and free pizza. Everyone enjoyed sessioning the mini ramp. Authentic skate shop with a great vibe, staff has a lot of experience and knowledge. They have a great variety of boards here including a lot of smaller board manufacturers, which is the way to go nowadays. It's nice to have something unique and better quality on the slopes. The wax and tune they put on your snowboard is the best for sure. I don't take my boards anywhere else and live 20min away, in Broomfield. On the cat tracks I'm passing skiers who are just pumping their arms, it's a buttery spread they put on there. read more

I used to live in Huntington Beach California, the epicenter of action sports. Action sports are so common here it's almost expected to engage in them. I know a thing or two about skate shops. This is definitely a skate shop, with a reluctant assortment of snowboards and clothes. There's a indoor ramp that uses about 1/4 of the store. The employees are somewhat stand-off-ish and not nearly as friendly as skate shops I'm used to in California. If you are looking for a skateboard, the selection is awesome here. Anything else and you might leave disappointed. read more

So many good things to say about the shop. I met them at an event years ago and since then it feels like the shop has become another house​ for my kids. The staff is always very friendly and no matter if you are a first timer​ or pro they are always there to give you tips on anything you need to know. My girls started snowboarding at 18m and 3,5 because of their Riglet event and all the support we got after to get all the girls geared up, now 4 and 6, they have become amazing​ mini shredders and love to come to the shop to see the staff and look at the gear. The shop also just added a mini ramp and offers classes, and we can't wait for them to try it, we were not a family of ​skateboarder​s but since we found Satellite, we started to get into it. The shop did a super pro job on a pro tune for me and my husband's never summer boards. My board was in rough shape and it's riding like new now! I won't go anywhere else for tunes again. First off I encourage everyone to read the rest of the reviews on Yelp of our shop. The overriding theme is a helpful staff with rad experiences. We've been in the game for 15 years now and we definitely have a strong grasp on retail, skateboarding, and snowboarding. I've been a part of Satellite as a manager since 2014 but I've been part of the Satellite family for the better part of those 15 years. Everyone that's a part of this shop is the nicest raddest people you'll ever meet and I feel this is definitely exemplified in the bulk of the reviews you find on here about us. My review here is more of an answer to Mi.M bad review of myself. I definitely remember this day and I remember the events dramatically different. The piece of fiction you created is certainly praiseworthy but at the end of the day it's just that, fiction. I'm sorry you had an awful experience. Yes store credit is our return policy and it says as much in a sign next to the register as you check out and on your receipt. I took time to look at the shoes with you and there was no "gash" as you described. I offered to take the shoes back and give you a store credit that would be applicable to anything we had in the shop or from our other location, you demanded your money back, and I said that wasn't possible but that you'd have to speak with the owner that had the capability of granting your request. I commented that "unfortunately my hands are a little tied here" and I went on to explain that I simply didn't have the authorizations to go into the back-end of our POS to do what you were asking. This became the tipping point at which you "popped" you then proceeded to pull your credit card out of your wallet throw it on the counter and tell me more than a few expletives the gist of which was for me to put the money back on your card. I once again explained that im sorry it just wasn't physically possible but that an Owner could handle it the following Monday. You then got even more heated and I asked you to leave. You then gave me another stream of expletives and I simply said please leave. You finally did leave but the best part was when Boulder Police came back and asked me if I had assaulted you. Of course I hadn't and I had witnesses back up all my statements. The officers laughed the whole thing off and expressed to us that they felt you were pretty out of sorts and that I seemed like a genuinely nice guy. I'm truly sorry you had a bad experience but I know that in the end it had more to do with you and less to do with us. read more

They definitely knew what they were talking about and even gave me a little bit of education on the various style boards and bindings. I wasn't able to get that sort of information or help from the larger stores. Despite the size of the store they had a great variety of items. Awesome shop. I've been shopping around for a new snowboard for a few weeks and had the best customer service ever! Ethan took so much time teaching me about and setting me up with the perfect board. I have always had a great time going here. My brother and I both get our snowboards tuned here, and they always do a great job. The price of a tune up is very fair as well. I came here on May 15th at about 2:45pm. The guys were AWESOME. We had two guys mainly helping us with longish brown hair and hats on but I didn't get their names for this review unfortunately. Kind of silly, but being a girl walking into a skate shop...who clearly doesn't skate, I felt a bit self conscious, but hey, I love nikes. Anyway, they were super nice and made me feel totally welcome, as well as my sister, mom and nephew. They didn't have my size and the guy brought out a bunch of shoes anyway in case I would want a different style/color...I did not expect that caliber of customer service here! Then I started putting the shoes back in the boxes and he came and told me not to worry about it, just small things like that are so nice. Plus, the guy helping my nephew treated him like an adult which I really appreciated, brought out a bunch of different shoes, a couple of sizes etc and made sure he was comfortable with his choice before the sale. They fixed my bindings up when I broke them last year as well.
