I stopped in at Larry's, and even though they didn't have the part, they got on a computer and took the time to find the web-site that had the exact part I needed. I wanted to love this place and I rarely post negative reviews, but this turned out to be a major energy, time and money pit. I made an appointment ($100 mandatory deposit) to get help with my mountaineering boots. The shop was chaotic. Everyone was crammed in a tight space. They're understaffed, overwhelmed, and there was a negative vibe all around each time I came. They said they could help with my mountaineering boots but actually lacked expertise in that area and should have been candid about it. It's hard when the ego gets in the way. They don't know as much as they think they do when it comes to mountaineering boots, regardless of what they brag about and who they've worked with. I know they genuinely tried to help. Unfortunately I only got bad advice, wasted $300 on useless insoles and over 30 days waiting on mountaineering boot liners they recommended but could not get (which turned out was not even the solution to my problem). I did get a resolution after talking to real mountaineering and climbing experts in Colorado and it was actually quite simple. You just had to have a decent knowledge about mountaineering boots and how to troubleshoot more complex feet and boot issues. Bottom line, they should stick with what they know best: ski boots. No one can be an expert at everything and that's ok - just don't pretend to be and be honest about it (and with yourself). It's not cool to have customers spend hundreds of dollars on bad advice and "guesses". Mountaineering is very different than skiing, and it is already very expensive! read more

Others have complained about the slow service at Larry's. In my case Larry's also did a terrible job fitting my ski boots, for which I paid nearly $500. My previous ski boots were too small (my toes were cramped) so I went to Larry's intending to get a perfect fit. I explained to them the problems I had with my old boots and told them I did not want the same problems with their boots. Their boot fitter measured my feet and brought out boots that supposedly were the correct size. I told them they felt way too small, but they said don't worry, they'll be perfect after the lining breaks in and in any case they could tweak the fit via the molded footbeds. Long story short, I experienced terrible foot cramps wearing their boots and both of my big toenails blackened and eventually fell off due to the pressure of my toes against the fronts of the boot shells. I went back to Larry's three times to tell them about the problems - each time they played around with the molded liner until eventually they just shrugged and said there was nothing more they could do. I eventually learned (from the Internet, not Larry's) that ski boots are sized in something called MondoPoint and that they had fitted me in a MondoPoint size 26 boot, a size that is for men that wear size 8 in street shoes (for a comfort fit). I have size 11 feet and should have been fitted to a size 29 ski boot for a comfort fit. How a place that specializes in fitting boots could have gotten it so wrong is beyond me. To anyone considering using Larry's for boots, I recommend knowing in advance what size boot you want and insisting that they fit you with the correct size. read more

I have recommended your store for years and given you multiple new customers. I was so disappointed when one of my good friends went in to get her boots figured out. By the time she left the store yesterday, she felt deflated, unheard, discriminated and possible racial profiling. She was talked down and completely disrespected. I don't know if it's because she is a female, ethnic and not in the "Good ole Boys club". I work with a major outdoor company for over 10 years. I've never in my ten years ever seen or heard an employee to a customer so horrible. I will never ever recommend this place to anyone again! I waited until I had 50 days in my boots before making this review to make sure I could comment intelligently. It took about three hours for the crew at Larry's to get me properly fitted and molded into my new boots. They had a great attention to detail and never made me feel like I was wasting their time. It's a cool vibe at their shop. The boots are the best fitting boots I've ever owned! I feel like I ski better and am quicker edge-to-edge with my new boots. They fit perfectly - no pinching and no hot spots. Larry's set me up with custom insoles and liners which really seem to make a big difference in my skiing. Will update this as I spend time and accumulate vertical in my new boots from Larrys. But first blush, this was a great experience. I was trading out from a pair of boots that were more torture devices than ski boots. TO be clear, I have been skiing for nearly 50 years so have had many, many ski boots, a rare few better than others. The last pair were fitted but kind of half a$$ed at one of the big ski retailers in CO. Seemed fine in the store but on the slopes it felt like I was constantly pushing my shins into a metal bed frame. It got worked out, mostly using Skin Shins and various power strap shenanigans. I went to Larry's this week to finally move on. Levi met me for my scheduled appointment and spent real time understanding how I ski, what my current boots did or didn't do and then finding five pairs of boots to try out. Through a patient process of elimination, swapping different boots on different feet and different configurations of flex, inserts and footbeds, we found what I'm hoping will be the most comfortable pair of ski boots yet. I truly appreciate the time, knowledge and insight that Levi put into finding the right boot. It seems like this is a mantra at Larry's. I also really appreciate seeing some of my ancient skis around the shop. Brings back so many great memories of days gone by. read more

This is THE BEST PLACE to get ski boots. Larry and his team of experts have been doing my ski boots for 25 years, and they never fail to impress! Traveled to Boulder especially for my first pair of touring boots recently, this is perhaps the 5th pair of boots Larry has done for me since 1995--and I ski a lot. Currently, during COVID, they have boot fitting set up outside under toasty heat lamps. The process does take time, be prepared for that! But it's time well spent. While I still have the chops for most ski boot fit issues, there's nothing like having some one that does it everyday ,day in and day out , working on your boots and particularly your insoles. Larry is that guy. His co workers are awesome and the store has and old school specialty shop vibe,this ain't a big box retailer. As I continue my quest for the ultimate ski set up, I turned to Larry's. I had scored a $795 pair of Rossignol Carbon Bandit Elite ski boots off eBay for $125 and I was COMMITTED to making them work! Every time I wore them, which was twice last season and twice this year, I would develop a crushing hot spot on the outside of my left calcaneus and talus...It hurt my ankle. I couldn't walk, and that sucked. So I took them to Larry's; I had to make an appointment TWO WEEKS in advance. There was a lot of sitting around and watching ski videos while I told his assistant what was going on. I had three boots, I bought my snowshoe boots which had the same problem, for him to tweak out. Well, 60 minutes later it was all worth it. They fit beautifully with no pain. He had even managed to remove a section that cut into my foot when I would take the boots off. I was scared for the cost he was going to give me. He rang it up and then the other shoe dropped, literally---$25. How does this guy stay in business. I would have gladly paid $100 to get this straightened out. Now, I've skied with my feet firmly ensconced in a joyous wonderland. As the boots are still packing in, I have no problem and will probably even go back there for a pair of inserts...he quoted me a price of---$25 for a pair. Larry Houchen is a God of Bootfitters. We like to ski but I have had real trouble with my old boots. My feet are "uniquely" shaped and hard to fit well. I decided to make a trip (we live in AZ) to Larry's based on various reviews posted here and elsewhere. Wife and I visited in early December 2016 to purchase boots and get properly fitted. The staff was super patient and we both tried on numerous brands and sizes. Larry personally fitted mine due to the challenges my feet presented. We skied on the new boots in Jan and Feb. My fit was tight but very comfortable. But my wife's boots felt tight in the toe area. Called Larry in late March 2017 to see if we could stop by in April while we're in Denver on a business trip. Larry is closed for the season as of April 1, but he agrees to meet us at his shop to take care of us. Long story short, we drove from the airport to the shop, Larry started to make some adjustments and two hours later her boots were fixed. I was very impressed with the professionalism of Larry's team and the level of care he took to make sure we had a great outcome. Larry's a bit old school, but not when it comes to customer satisfaction and knowledge of ski boot technology. Highly recommend. read more

Lovely. I had several ski boots I was trying to sell and needed some specs on. Dan sat with me for 10-15 min and wrote down all the info + what I should sell them for. I was hoping to get one fitted for me (they were all new and I came into possession of them from an old job), but he told me it would be better to sell that boot because it wouldn't be comfortable for the shape/size of my foot. The other boots were men's. Giving specs for boots someone is trying to sell on Craigslist is not what they traditionally do (obviously!), but when I emailed and asked of they could help, Dan was super nice. AWESOME... I had been sporting a pair of Atomic M90 women's boots that were killing my shins. After last season it took me an entire summer to get rid of the swelling, pain, and bruises left on my shins. Hearing that getting linings or boots blow out usually led to paying an exorbitant amount of money or the suggestion "just get a new pair of boots", I was worried. I've gotten a lot of my gear skulking around SteepandCheap, Tramdock, Backcountry and Geartrader .com. After 7 different people told me I "have to go see Larry." I called in an appointment. Great experience. These guys know feet! After determining that the boot was the right size and a good fit for me they started cranking away heating it up and blowing it out. 1 hour later I still had a pressure point on the front. Took it back, blew it out some more. Still hurt. So they moved on to linings... fitted me with a fine pair and all of a sudden my boots were comfortable not sources of pain and anguish. Not torture with buckles but nice tight flexi fun things. Then I paid... 50$!!! I would have gladly paid way more and they refused a tip! For nearly 2.5 hours of work and service this was one of the best gear type experiences I've had (aside from that guy in the corner getting fitted for Alpine boots because it's been a "bad tele season" NO ONE CARES YOU TELE!) I spent $600 on my boots at CO Ski and Golf, and they hurt the first 10 days I used them on the mountain. Some days, three runs was a stretch. Plus I was afraid to dump even more money into them. Eventually I heard of Larry's, and noticed that he does the boot care videos online. And the Yelp posting gave me confidence I wasn't going to have to shove more money in. I went to visit on a Sunday afternoon, and the tech took my boots in the back, adjusted the footbeds and heated the liners for me to walk around in and only charged a few dollars for the work. I'm new to Colorado, so this is my first full ski season. Because of its stellar reviews, I went to Larry's with the intention of finding and fitting the perfect pair of boots that would allow me to reliably demo different skis throughout the season, even as a relative neophyte. The shop was pretty busy when I hesitantly stepped through the door around 2PM on a Saturday, but although the staff was working hard to fit boots for quite a few customers, they quickly noticed me and ushered me to a seat where a newer-seeming employee named Andre was soon available to help me. We spent quite a while trying on different boots and liners, and the very friendly Andre did his best to explain some of the nuances of what I should be looking for in a ski boot. I'm inclined to be pretty analytical, and I like to understand my equipment perfectly, even when I'm completely new to a sport. So take it with a grain of salt when I say that I didn't feel completely satisfied with Andre's ability to articulate what I ought to be seeking in my first pair of ski boots. Rather, I ended up trusting his judgment as to fit and function. It was reassuring that some of the more experienced staff, including Larry himself, appeared to keep a watchful eye on the entire proceeding, even though they largely kept their distance for Andre's sake. They chimed in once or twice with suggestions to us, and after trying on three different boots, I arrived at one that was certainly a better fit than the previous two offerings. From there, Larry took over, crafting custom insoles and heat molding some liners for me. He was attentive to the details of his work and molded the insoles with a deftness that could only have come from years of experience. The process took a while, but the casual and friendly atmosphere (Andre brought me a beer while I was waiting on the insoles) kept me from getting too tired out. When we had finally finished molding the liners and insoles, I spent some time standing around in the boots to make sure they were going to work for me. It took about ten minutes, but my feet started to cramp up a bit. Andre promised me that this was normal and that there would be a breaking-in period of about 7 full days of skiing. From what I knew of climbing shoes and hiking boots, that didn't sound unreasonable for brand new footwear, so again I deferred to Andre's judgment. Reassuringly, and perhaps best of all, I can now go back to Larry at any time to get the boots tailored even further for no additional charge. And since he has helped so many people correct their poorly selected or badly fitted boots, I feel confident that he'll be able to help me sort out any difficulties I might encounter with the presumably perfect boots he has helped me pick out and shape. Despite my inexperience with ski boots, I can say three things with confidence: Larry and his staff are willing to spend lots of time on their customers, Larry is very experienced, and everyone on the staff seems friendly. I wish I could say as much for every small business I've encountered. read more

The most insanely valuable service apart from the Emergency Room at Boulder Hospital. Spent three hours working adjustments on my sold boots (it was mid March so their limited selection precluded starting with a new pair). A heat treatment took and hour (and hey let me know) so i could usefully spend the time for a couple pints. In the end, the boots felt better, and they charged me $20. WTF! I left another $20 for the lunch fund, and will be back in September to start with new boots. Set aside several hours, make an appointment, and you shall be pleased. read more

Larry is a miracle worker. I've had problems with my foot beds for a year now. I was only able to take a few runs before a burning shin pain settled in. But I spent a few hours with Larry and his super friendly/knowledgeable staff and he worked miracles. Not only did he completely solve my foot bed problem. But he also realized my scoliosis was affecting my alignment, so he did a few adjustments and now everything is all lined up. Amazing. I had a great, long day on the mountain afterwards and am beyond happy. Love these guys. So happy they could help me out, even though I didn't buy my boots there. Next time, I will. :) read more

They are miracle workers at work here at Larry's Boot Fitting. I made an appointment based upon the recommendation of others here on Yelp and was glad I did so even though I had to wait a week or so to get in. I had bought a new pair of boots last season and only skied them 3 days before finding that they caused an immense amount of pain in the top of my foot on both feet. After a couple of simple measurements and looking over the boots Nolan took them in back for about 10minutes. He came back, I tried them on and the pain was gone, he gave me a few tips for putting the boots on and buckling them so as to put my foot in the optimal position. He made another adjustment based on how my feet felt and then we discussed custom insoles, I decided to hold off and ski them a few more days before purchasing the insoles and see if the tweaks he made alleviated my issues. The best part of the 35-40 minutes I spent there getting comfier, the cost. A mere $25!!! I cannot recommend this place highly enough, they'll treat you right, fix the issues, and stand behind their work. read more

Simply the best in the west. I almost feel stupid writing a review, Larry is so renowned for fitting boots. I've got jacked up feet, rebuilt ankle without full range of motion, frostbite from racing in HS and College, Collapsing arches and a pre-bunion on my right foot...had a fantastic fitter out East (Startingate ski shop in bondville VT), but was lost out here and skiing in blown out boots just to avoid having to go with a sup-par fit. Went to see Larry on a referral and in 2 visits had me feeling unbelievable in brand new boots. Have never ski'd as pain free as I am now. He even got me back to my aggressive stance by modding my boot to accommodate injury/lack of flex in my left ankle. read more

Extremely unhappy with the boot fit I received. The kid fitting my boots had zero regard to my concerns about my heels coming out of my boots and there's coming up quite a bit, very uncomfortably. He tried telling me heel support is useless so he then proceeded to placing padding on the tounge of my boots (which i didn't ask for nor want) said that's the way to fix my heels from coming up. Where is the logic in that? I had to remove the padding bc it was completely useless and when I did it ruined my linners. Not to mention he molded the inside of my liners to the shell instead of the outside so now my linners are completely ruined. I had high hopes for this place and was looking forward to a proper boot fit but instead I left with ruined liners and 40 bucks down the drain. Sooooo unhappy with this place read more

I am not someone who typically leaves yelp reviews, but Larry's Boot Fitting is the kind of business that gives you such a good experience, you feel compelled to write a review. I had a pair of barely-used Lange boots fall into my lap for free a few days ago. They were marked my size, but after I left them on for a few minutes, my feet were screaming. I was going to just scrap them, but since they were such nice boots and I got them for free, I figured I would see if I could salvage them with a fitting. I found Larry's online and, even though I live 45 mins south in Denver, it looked worth the drive to deal with some real pros. Boy, was I right. These guys know boots. There were about 3 guys working the day I went in, including Larry, who is a trip. I have to say, I have only been skiing for a couple of years and have only ever rented equipment. I was a little nervous I would not be able to describe the issues with the boots, but it turns out it didn't matter. These guys are so knowledgeable, you can just describe a really vague issue and they know exactly what to do. They put some serious time into my boots--over two hours. It was near closing and they all stayed on a little after 6 to get them right. I felt bad about the hour (especially on a Friday when I'm sure they all had places they'd rather be), but they didn't make me feel rushed at all. I felt SO much better about the boots by the end. They no longer felt like the Chinese Torture Devices that they felt like when I brought them in and even felt pretty comfortable. Best part: it only cost me $25! I was blown away by that. I asked them about custom foot beds and different amenities and they didn't try to up-sell me on anything. Larry basically just recommended I ski in them first and see if I felt like it was necessary. If not, I could save some money. Class act. If you need new boots or boots fitted, go to Larry's. You will know you're dealing with knowledgeable guys who will shoot you straight. read more

A good fit makes all the difference! I purchased a new pair of new Salomon Shoguns online at an incredible price. That was my first mistake. I should have started at Larry's. The boots were too big and the wrong shape for my foot. The staff at Larry's were able to get me into something that fit awesome and now my feet are singing sweet melodies. Laid back, friendly staff. Plan on spending 2-3 hours getting fitted. Great pricing on custom foot beds (get them). Free beer and ski porn while you wait. Make an appointment... this place can get quite busy. read more
