DIY Chinese- no manual I can't say enough about my severe disappointment. It has literally leaked into all of my conversations since I ate from their menu. The experience: We ordered take-out: 1 sesame chicken, 1 general gau's, 1 fried rice. We received: 2 boxes of chicken, 3 tubs of sauce, 1 packet of sesame seeds, 1 mystery vegetable soup, 1 fried rice, 3 bread rolls. That's it. No soy, mustard, utensils, salt, pepper, or chopsticks. Upon opening the bag, we discover that the sesame and the general Gau's chicken are NAKEDLY UNSAUCED. Two different sauces lie in 3 separate unmarked tubs, only one of which is likely related to coating our naked meals as two of them were duck sauce. An unknown vegetables-in-broth is also included-- slowly decaying the paper box they put it in. The chicken was breaded, tough, and held a faint taste that reminded us of the microwave likely used to heat it. We did not have a mixing bowl to properly coat such dingy chicken with, so the rather blah flavor of drizzled tub sauce had to do. In order to stretch the plausibly sesame sauce out to cover as many of the naked chicken pieces as possible we were unsuccessful in covering up more than 50% of each piece. The sauce's lifespan was cut further by the fact that we had two naked chicken dinners to cover instead of the one. The food sat so sourly with me I regretted waiting too long to vomit and when it occurred to me, it was too far along. As one of my friend's who thankfully didn't have to participate in this nigh unpalatable DIY project noted, "They really phoned it in today". read more

Omg! Worse trip thus far! When in the hospitality business, one should remember that unless the customer is fully satisfied to return and spread the good word, there not going to remain in business! From the meet and greet, (none, yelled over to the apparent hostess that was seated in the bar, to seating us, having to ask for a drink other than the water and tea, being asked if we wanted mustard but not bringing it until we asked, and the food was terrible! Love this place. It reminds me of a Chinese restaurant where I grew up. It's nothing fancy but the food is just really good. Crab Rangoon is my favorite there. The menu offers so many different items and combinations and I appreciate that. The drinks are awesome! Aloha has enough reviews about the general experience, and my score (***) reflects that general experience, so I want to give a specific impressions that weren't addressed that well and may be of interest to some Yelpers. First, it does run a bit on the pricier side for standard Chinese food and it's way too easy to rack up a huge bill here. The prices aren't unreasonable, but you should carefully plan out your meal since most of your group or individual sides will put you back 6-10 and the main meal from 13-18, give or take. The soups are bargains, but everything else will pinch your wallet. Second, and my biggest annoyance, is the lack of vegetarian options. There are the standard meatless options (vegetarian soups, meatless lo mein, fried rice) and a few vegetable only dishes. Compared to the Szechuan House on Maple Street, which has twice as many vegetarian options with eggplant and tofu selections, it's lacking. It's worlds ahead of most chain restaurants on this front, but for vegetarians it seems like our "safe havens" in Manchester are Mexican (and TexMex) restaurants, pizza joints, cafes, and Chinese restaurants. Thus, it stands out a bit more here as I begrudgingly order my scallion pancakes and meatless lo mein and feel my heart stop a bit. Third, as the others have said, the chicken wings are awesome and on the house. They are one of the things I miss from my omnivore days. You can definitely do worse, and Aloha is a Manchester institution. It's a great place to bring your out-of-town friends with a good bar area, a spacious dining room, and a good middle ground between hole-in-the-wall and fine fining. But I'd argue that some of those hole-in-the-walls are the better buy and that the food at Aloha doesn't set it apart from any other Manchester Chinese restaurant. Edit: I've been back a few more times since my review and am bumping it up to a four (really more like 3.25 to 3.75 but rounding and all). Not much has changed, but I did discover the sauteed mushrooms and gravy, which was a treat. The waitstaff and owner watch over you like a hawk but are friendly enough. They could really, really use bigger water glasses (I think I had nine re-fills). I'm warming up to it, and they're open almost every day, which is awesome. read more

This place has the greatest Chinese-Polynesian food, as well as the coolest decor. Huge murals and imposing gateways bring you into an Asian-wonderland, where you'll be served poo-poo platters with flaming tureens, metal covered dishes of rice, heaps of General Tso's chicken, and whatever else your heart desires. The owner is hysterical, and remembers people's names after years, and has a great rapport with all the high-school (and post-high-school!) students that flock there. This place is terrible. It's a low-scale chinese restaurant pretending to be an upscale one. I ordered the mixed vegetables and added tofu since it didn't come with it. They charged $3 extra when any other restaurant I've ever gotten it to is $1. Then, I asked him how much extra it would be for fried rice instead of white rice. He gave me a weird look and then I said, "it does come with rice, doesn't it?" and he said no. What asian food restaurant doesn't serve rice??? The cheapest side order of rice you can get is an additional $3 and instead of rice they give you a roll...The food was bland and unflavorful and then today my stomach was extremely upset and I don't get sick easily. Decent food for a decent price! If you eat in, you always start with a chicken wing, and those are some of the best anywhere.

A staple of the East Manchester dining scene, Aloha is nothing out of the ordinary. Sure it's consistent Chinese food, but there is nothing but location and decor separating it from any number of Chinese places around town. It's also worth noting that it is being upstaged constantly by newcomers around Manchester. If you live really close to the Aloha and just want a quick fix of some pork fried rice or something then you can't go wrong, but I will say that there's better to be had at comparable prices in Manchester. Also, there is pretty good accommodations for large parties there, which is nice. read more

We wanted to get Chinese food to-go around 11pm so we were glad to see the restaurant open until after midnight. We were greeted nicely in the waiting area and the cashier was patient and helpful with some questions we had. He informed us the portions were big and would be enough for both of us, and we'll have leftovers for the next day. We proceeded with the order and while we waited by a bench near the wall, the cashier gave us a cold drink on the house. The food was delicious, warm and the portions were indeed large. We really enjoyed the experience. The restaurant also looks beautiful. Definitely recommend this place. read more

I have been going there for years and I started noticing the decline of their food. Last week (of 3/9/15) we ordered take out and were quite hungry. Order was pupu for two egg fu young, etc.. Wife opened up chicken wing and noticed that outside was crisp bit inside was raw. Egg fu young didn't taste great and smelled nasty ( I usually order this myself all the time so I know when its good) . Family had the runs and We probably won't be going back here anymore. This fam has been going here for years but is not going back. So sad to say it unless it changes. read more

Ok Chinese in a pinch. Bonus they give you a chicken wing while you wait. Made the mistake of going on Christmas Eve this year and waited for 40 minutes for a table. They gave us a menu to look over while we waited. We picked out what we wanted and watched the madhouse as people came and left. We were seated and got our complimentary chicken wings and we I went to order and everything they wanted they were not serving. I said why would they give us a menu to look over if you have a limited menu tonight. I was so miffed after waiting so long and then I could not even order what I wanted. Bar manager is rude and does not care about his customers. We had our drinks made wrong and asked for a quick modification and he was mumbling under his breath that we were pain in the *** customers. We were right there and could hear him, apparently he didn't care. Seems like we were a bother to him and his bartender. Love this place! I've been going here since I was a little girl and it's just how I remember and love, owner and all! It's so awesome how he remembers me after all the years, really makes you feel special and if that doesn't work, well a complimentary coca-cola with a cherry and a pineapple in it, how can that NOT? We got here at 2:56 today and were able to order the luncheon specials. Mine was a whopping $5.50 and came with a heaping mound of fried rice, chicken chow mein and a crispy egg roll. The waitress was wonderful, and the owner was great - he stopped by our table as soon as we sat down, said "you look hungry", and gave us a couple chicken wings and crab rangoons to get us started. Great service! I'm used to Chinese places just shoving the food at you and getting their money, but the people here are definitely friendly and welcoming. I ordered the cashew chicken, beef teriyaki, and side of rice. It was about $30, but worth the price! There's enough food there for 3-4 meals for me! The chicken was fresh and delicious, and the vegetables were good. The beef teriyaki could have had a little more flavor, but it was tender and easy to eat off the skewer. I wasn't expecting the cashews to come on the side for the cashew chicken, but it gave the dish a nice extra crunch. read more

This is your average Chinese place. The drinks are very good and cheap. I usually get the wings/tenders and chili paste. As far as the entrees go. It's the basic American interpretation of the meal. I have been a customer for over 20 years, and can say that until recently, I would have called it the most consistent Chinese/Polynesian food in the area. Unfortunately, the last few times we have ordered takeout, or dined in, we have had some issues: 1.) Missing items in takeout orders....i.e. missing egg rolls, 1 shrimp instead of a whole order, and (my personal favorite) the house special noodles with nothing but noodles! Those things used to be so delicious! 2.) Random charges on our bill 3.) Super long wait time from order to the receipt of the food...even when the dining room is empty. 4.) That bathroom has gotten very smelly and just about every surface is either wet or sticky.....big eeek for those with kids. Please Aloha....whatever change happened in December of 2012.....can't you just go back to being the way you were?.......I'd gladly come back! read more

I had heard about the restaurant for a while (positive things), but never went. My wife and I ended up stopping by on a quiet Tuesday night. Service was good, but everything else was disappointing. The style/decor and cleanliness of the restaurant is definitely lacking. It has old arcade machines in the entrance, visibly worn tables and benches, and soy sauce containers sticky with soy sauce residue. The biggest dissapointment was the food - it was some of the least-flavorful and unappetizing we had ever had in a NH Chinese restaurant. We started with hot & sour soup and won ton soup, both of which came in very large bowls (easily enough for 2 people each). The hot & sour soup was not spicy. It had the correct vinegar taste, but nothing on the other side. It was also filled with many stringy things (bamboo shoots?) that were around 3 inches long, which made it hard to eat. The won ton soup was filled to the brim with chunks of steamed chicken and vegetables, but there was only a little bit of broth in the bottom of the bowl. It too had very little flavor... sort of the taste of watered-down chicken broth. For the meal, we ordered sesame chicken which was so heavily breaded, it felt as though we were eating fried breading coated in a largely tasteless, sweet sauce. Even when I cut the pieces of sesame chicken open to see what they looked like from the inside, it was hard to tell where the chicken was. Perhaps they grind or mash up the chicken with the breading? It was a sore disappointment. The vegetable delight was 60% bok choy cabbage and had very, very little flavor. The fried rice was more flavorful than the other dishes, but it was on the oily side. I think the thing is about this restaurant is that they might be good for all of the Americanized Chinese foods, e.g., the ones that are fried or come on a stick. If you're only looking for crab rangoon, egg rolls, chicken on a stick, etc., I think you'll have more success here than we did (which is the only reason I'm giving it 2 stars and not just 1). If you want Chinese food with sauces or more taste, look elsewhere. Oh, lastly, the prices are certainly on the higher side. $12.95 for the "sesame chicken" and $8.95 for the vegetable delight. Our bill was $49 with an $8 tip. read more

This review is based on my two experiences here,one yesterday around 3.the second last week @ 1030pm.first let me say I was extremely happy w my servers on both occasions.I would give them 5 stars.the meals came relatively quick both late night and during lunch.the portions are huge.we got the combination plate our first trip.during dinner hrs you get tea and complimentary crab ragoons,tho others have said wings so it must vary.either way a great way to start a meal.I wouldnt order an app unless you eat competitively. At dinner the combos are 12.50 which sounds pricey until u see your plate.I believe I got 8 chicken fingers,two teriyaki,an egg roll and a mountain of rice.it could of fed both of us easily.everything was prepared great.the only reason they didn't get five stars was because there is better out there.but seriously no complaints.when we went back for lunch we got the "smaller" lunch special 9 which is just under ten bucks.I think the only difference was it was on a different plate.still a ridiculous amount of food.one of my fav things about the aloha is the drink menu.most drinks are about half price to most Chinese places.my fav is the zombie(limit 2 according to menu).lots of the good stuff for a shocking 5.95! Aloha is one of the places that we eat at on a regular basis because the food is very good, fresh and tasty and the service is very good. Once your seated you get either crab Rangoon or chicken wings as a complimentary appetizer along with a pot of tea and ice water with lemon slices ( a nice touch! ). We always order pretty much the same thing...chicken fingers, pork fried rice, chow mein...the meatless chow mein is the BEST always fresh tasting and hot! Whenever we have eaten in the dining room the servers are always coming to the table asking if we need anything. Every time we've used take-out the orders are always correct, hot and on time. The only complaint I would have is I don't think they put enough of their delicious duck sauce in the take out bag so make sure you ask for EXTRA! read more

I'm super picky when it comes to Chinese food but this place is pretty good. I like the fact that they start you off with a couple of crab rangoons. Sure, some things here are pretty mediocre. The lo-mein is average. But they have REALLY good chicken dishes here. Their general gaus chicken is probably the best I've ever had; nice crunch, tasty/spicy flavor, and they use large pieces of white meat chicken rather than those overly battered/mystery meat that most Chinese places try to pass off as "chicken." We have been going there for 25 years and have never been treated so poorly. Our family of 6 went there on the evening of 12/20 for my wife's birthday. We were seated right away but no waitress ever came over and it was not even that busy. After 25 minutes, we left. On the way out the people at the front register wished us a good evening! They didn't even realize we were never waited on! Definitely not the service we used to get when Billy owned the place. Looks like we will have to find a different "date night" restaurant. read more
