At first when I first started eating Pho, I wasn't crazy about the tea but now I love it!! I've never ever once been disappointment by them. Their service is lightening fast! It is always nice to run into an unexpected surprise when looking for a restaurant you have never dined in before. Alo Saigon does Vietnamese traditional dishes but with a slight variation on a theme that puts them over the top. Bánh Xèo is a savory Vietnamese Crêpe which Alo Saigon does extremely well, it was quite large, crispy and the filling was chock full of a variety of vegetables not often seen in the preparation including woodear mushrooms, just plain excellent! Next was the Bun Thit 3 Mau, slighty different in flavor due to a different marinade used for the shrimp and Pork which were so tender and flavorful as was the Cha Gio eggroll, absolutely deliciously, an outstanding dish. Food was decent. The woman waiting on us was extremely rude and condescending. I'll never go here again. I ordered a smoothie on the menu and she rudely told me that they were out of smoothies, that they only had bubble teas. I ordered one, which arrived looking whitish and nothing like the picture. I asked if she put milk in it, which she rudely replied, "Yes! You didn't tell me not to put milk in it!" My date in order to calm the server and to make light of the situation offered to take it. She told me she would make another one with no milk. Another arrived with a whitish look to it. When I told her I was concerned because I'm allergic to milk, she was mocking me and yelled at me that there was no milk in it. I tried it and it tasted just like the last one, but less sweet. I didn't drink it. We were charged for them both, which I was honestly kind of surprised. I paid the bill and still tipped her well, as is my own code of ethic. But I honestly cannot believe how poorly I was treated. It was embarrassing and belittling and in very poor taste. The food was decent (6/10) but definitely not worth being berated like I was. Very nice surprise. My husband and I had to come into town for some errands and it hit lunch time so we tried this place out. We had the summer rolls, papaya salad, and lemongrass shrimp. We sat by the new bus station around the corner since they had benches outside in the sunshine. The food was surprisingly good. It was fresh, well seasoned and delicious. We are in Westfield for only 4 days and we plan on coming here every night for dinner! This is a local gem! Coming from Boston, I can't say that we don't have quality Vietnamese food there, but usually the Boston Vietnamese restaurants are pricier and the portions are much smaller. The waitress Samantha was really friendly, excellent at hosting all of her customers even though she's the only waitstaff there. We got some really nice iced tea to start, they were really refreshing, kinda like lighter version of Thai iced tea but without the milk/cream, they are complimentary and they refill them for you throughout your whole meal. We got Papaya salad with shrimps, Fried Shrimp Balls, Rare Beef and Brisket Soup with Vermicelli, Crispy Fried Noodles with Beef and Mixed veggies, they used really fresh veggies, really impressed... with zucchini squash, broccoli, Napa cabbage, Chinese Broccoli, Bok Choy, and celery! I thought it was pretty good, the pork bao buns are amazing so soft and pillowy and delicious. The beef pad Thai a little greasy but good flavor. Definitely go for the crispy shrimp rolls. The pho I didn't get this time but I've had before and is also delicious. Don't forget the chili oil and chili's sauce! I'm not sure if the make it here but it is very good. read more

We got an order of shumai for the table to start off that came with a delicious spicy oil dipping sauce. They bring plenty of bean sprouts if you order a soup dish which is always nice. I've enjoyed too many great Vietnamese restaurants in MA/CT to give Alo Saigon more than two stars. The menu is impressive at first. Lots of variety. But when you dig deeper, it was rather confusing, especially if you're already familiar with Vietnamese cuisine. It was a mish-mash, and it took some work to translate their unusual descriptions of standard Vietnamese dishes. Pictures on the menu didn't help much, because they often were not near the menu item, and did not provide a name. The restaurant itself is the picture of bland. It kind of saddens me to walk into another Vietnamese place that doesn't seem to spend five minute on making the place look nice. Condiment containers were crusty and dirty, walls were barren, the kid's toys were stored in the service and in the hand-wash sink. It just wasn't all that appealing, although I really wanted to love a new favorite pho joint. So, speaking of the food; I ordered pho ga (chicken soup). My wife was sure it was a canned broth, I wasn't so sure. Either way, it wasn't particularly flavorful. The chicken was tough, and none of it tasted particularly fresh. Same for the Summer rolls we had while waiting. They weren't *bad*, they just didn't have a very fresh taste. While on the subject, this is another area where the confusing menu comes into play. Summer rolls were offered with pork or shrimp...we weren't given an option when we ordered, and they came with both pork and shrimp anyway, the way they're usually are served in any other Vietnamese restaurant we've visited. My wife's dish, um...I don't recall what it was called. No web site or menu online. All I remember is that it was a beef dish, similar to shaking beef. But also not particularly fresh tasting. Too bad. There are few Vietnamese offerings in the Westfield area, and I have to assume all of the five star reviews are from people who haven't experienced places like Pho Saigon in Springfield, or any of the wonderful pho joints in the greater Hartford area. But if you're stuck in Westfield, I guess it's far better than the drive through at Burger King. read more

Nice place that has been in business for 2 years. Simple. Come here for the food, not the quiet bland atmosphere. Had the nice Hot Wonton Soup- good price and tasty- a bit too much sweet garlic in the pork stuffing, but otherwise pretty dang good. The food is good, but the customer service is horrible. They are not welcoming. The waitress was very dry. They don't ask when the food arrives how the food is instead once you finish eating they give you the bill and don't ask if you want anything else. This was a Yelp reviewer's recommended Vietnamese Restaurant and it was my first time actually walking into this street side establishment. I like trying new and interesting flavors even though we all have our comfort foods I try to expand my taste buds from time to time. I had read the reviews the night before and was salivating before lunch time knowing I was going to have something new and delish. So, we arrived at lunch 12:15 pm on a Wednesday afternoon and parked right on the street in front and walked in and we were only the second customers in the store, the way I like it quiet and uneventful. We got a seat after the Hostess kindly greeted us and picked a booth right in front of the counter. It was clean and well stocked with all sorts of seasonings and chopsticks and soup spoons and what looked like a spicy hot sauce or two with clean bowls and covers. We immediately were greeted with very large wine goblets with a flavored tea and ice which was FREE and very refreshing. Yum! We perused the menu and ordered the wonton Pork soup as appetizer and waited a minute to order as we needed to take the menu in - it is expansive. I eagerly chose the Bun Thit 3 Mau a 3 meat - pork roll, pork, and Shrimp dish with veggies and delicate rice noodles which look and tasted like angel hair pasta. My friend ordered the Alo Saigon Special a meat over rice and veggies dish that looked awesome. The soup arrived within a minute or two and it was smoking hot and the aroma was delectable, I saw the clear broth and tiny scallions floating in and around the perfume of pork dumplings and there were like 6 or 8 of them in a large what looked like a 12 oz. bowl a huge portion as an appetizer. I must confess I burned my tongue as I moved in to devour my soup, but that was my mistake- patience was key to this hot soup. The wonton dumplings were so good and light, not heavy with anything but the flavor of the onions - scallions and spices- very great starter. The iced tea was a tongue saver as the soup cooled and I had been offered a refill already Just in time! The entre arrived right on time as we were finishing up our soup and taking in the scenery. My Bun Thit 3 Mau was in a large bowl and with the yummy rice noodles below the average sized medium shrimps and an ample portion of pork and a single cut egg roll. I am not a fan of SOY flavored fare but I tried this dish to be adventurous and I liked it fine. If it was not soy or another major flavor I prolly would get it again but soy has never been my thing. The veggies were super clean and fresh and noodles were heavenly and light - a good dish - if you like soy I am sure you would love this dish so go on and get it and update a review for this dish. My friends rice and meat dish looked great and he said it was too he at every bite of it. I got my remaining noodles and veggies to go because I am not a big carb killer at lunch and got stuffed on the soup and tea. The place caught our eye and we checked it out two times. The first time admittedly was cold, looked dingy, the service was so-so, but it's understandable with a serious language barrier, communication isn't our first worry knowing we wanted the cultural food experience. Service was tolerable on day one, food was slightly better than average. The place is dirty, be forewarned, sticky menus and nasty condiment/spice dispensers. On the 2nd visit, more of the same, but service tanked miserably with three parties in the restaurant. One would think 6 or 7 meals over an hour is within reason, but they struggled bad. The 2nd visit with food was ok, not as good as the first, but guessing they had some problems going on in the back. I feel bad ever giving 2 stars, but ask the restaurant to figure out how to clean up and get more timely. Not even expecting them to pay a nickle to update, just clean. I finally went in when I was sick and could not think of eating anything but soup. I love Pho but was naturally skeptical of a Vietnamese place in Westfield. After hearing all sorts of good about the place I finally gave it a try for takeout. The chicken is the traditional poached and the noodles are cooked perfectly. They send you home with all the fixings in one box and the broth in its own container. They also give you hoisin and sriracha sauce- though next time I will ask for extra. The broth is rich and flavorful and all of the herbs and veggies were fresh and crisp. I also ordered the fried spring rolls which were awesome. Love the dipping sauce. A big pho portion and the spring rolls was $13 and I had enough to eat the pho for two meals. The owner also brought me a cup of hot tea while I waited for my order. I could tell it was both vietnamese and Thai on Yelp, but when I got there, there were TWO Thai entrees on the menu, one was Pad Thai, the other Pad Thai Deluxe. I was running another errand in Westfield and thought I'd give Alo Saigon a try. I'm so glad I did! My order was small, just a #5, the vegetable summer rolls. I called in my order, and the friendly voice on the phone told me 15-20 minutes. Arriving a bit later than that, I was met again with likely the same friendly person. When I said I was just in town for something else trying the place out, she said it was great and she's not just saying that, she had been a customer before. As to the summer rolls, they were great! Packed with avocado (which I hadn't experienced in a summer roll before, flavorful tofu, rice noodles, lettuce and carrot, they were expertly rolled and were kept so in the to-go container with some plastic wrap. They came with two sauces: a light peanut sauce, and a tangy fish sauce that were both really good. For some they may be enough for lunch, they were that substantial (me, I'd need a couple more!), but I wasn't in search of lunch, just a snack, so all good. So good I went 2 days in a row lol the fried egg rolls are awesome!! I hade pho with rare steak (on the side for me) and it was very good! The broth was very flavorful, although I felt the noodles were over cooked. My husband had the special combination pho and he had no complaints. On the second day, we had egg rolls again and tried the fried wontons. I was expecting crab rangoons but it was just like a fried dumpling, with a pork mixture inside. I wasn't a fan but not because they were bad. Instead of pho I tried the grilled shrimp noodles. Amazing!! I loved it! They also give you iced tea in the beginning of meal and it's amazing!
