Hong Kong Garden is one of those hidden gems that I've been coming to for over a decade whenever I'm in town, and it never disappoints. The fact that they aren't listed on the big ordering apps just adds to their charm and you know you're getting an authentic Chinese take-out experience. The restaurant is run by a lovely married couple who are both incredibly efficient and friendly. What really sets them apart is their personal touch. Even if I disappear for a while due to work, they still remember me by name whenever I return, which speaks volumes about how much they care for their customers. The food here is fantastic. My go-to dishes are the chicken wings and the egg foo young. They are always perfectly cooked with amazing flavors. The shrimp with broccoli is also done very well, with fresh, crisp veggies and plump shrimp, and their crab rangoons are some of the tastiest I've had in town, crispy on the outside with a creamy, flavorful filling. Every dish I've tried has been made with care, and you can taste the quality in every bite. One thing I really appreciate is the convenience. There's a large parking lot, which is a huge plus in this area, and the restaurant is located in a plaza with some shops, so you can walk around and browse while you wait for your food. If you're looking for a consistent, family-run Chinese restaurant with great food and welcoming service, Hong Kong Garden is it. My son and I had a craving for Chinese food and decided to order from here, for we were looking for a good meal. I ordered a wide variety of items. I have never been so disappointed--the only items that were still good were the wings and the egg rolls were in fact better than I remember. The Mongolian beef (which is my favorite Chinese dish) was awful-I ate one bite and could eat no more--it had an odd taste which was not pleasant. All fried rice (I had ordered a number of combo meals)-was hard as a rock (one could have gotten a broken tooth due to the hardness of the rice)-the rice had no flavor. The pork chow mein had hardly any pork. The shrimp with lobster sauce--the shrimp was not in one solid piece but soft without flavor. The teriyaki sticks were thin and hard in the middle. This is my first and last time I will get something from here. While the food was hot, most of it did not resemble "Chinese food" as I know it. 1.) The sweet and sour pork looked like donut holes served with the sweet and sour sauce on the side (not mixed in and heated) The sauce clearly was poured from the bottle into a dish and brought to the table. 2.) The crab Rangoon were more cream cheese and less crab. 3.) The general Tsao's chicken pieces were over fried and the coating was so crunchy that the sauce applied would not soften it up. 4.) The pork fried rice was a combination of tiny bits of roast pork, diced white onion, green onion circles and a rice that was vaguely pre-seasoned while boiling in the pot. Not a pea, diced carrot, kernel of corn, or any other vegetable in it at all. Would be 5 but their boneless spareribs are dry and lack fat. Service 5 stars. Always friendly and never had a wrong order. Ambiance 1. Nothing to rave about here. I've dined here countless times and have always found the food well above average, generally better than most Chinese American restaurants. On this particular visit I ordered Moo Goo Gai Pan an old school Hong Kong dish. The chicken was supremely tender, the mixed vegetables were all cooked al dente with a light sauce which was perfectly delicious. The boneless spare ribs were good, very flavorful and the fried rice was some of the best I've had anywhere. The service was prompt with my order arriving quickly from the kitchen. I will continue to patronize this restaurant as all my experiences here have been stellar. On September 1, 2022, our favorite Chinese restaurant, Ginger Blossom (yelp.com/biz/ginger-blos...) unexpectedly closed. They seemed to do well despite the pandemic, but changed ownership sometime in the last couple of years. The beginning of the end perhaps was the fact that since around July they did not have a sushi chef, but they also did some renovations in preparation of the return of dine-in service that never seemed to materialize for them. Regardless, my wife and I would order take-out every Friday (the same five appetizers - spring rolls, crab rangoons, pan-fried meat dumplings, boneless spare ribs, and fried chicken fingers - and some entree), and the staff got to become familiar with me as a result. (Is that a good thing or not?) Super disappointing to see them go. I realized recently that I never reviewed them, but I would have given them four stars. In the weeks since, we've been trying to find a new Chinese restaurant that could possibly hold a candle to Ginger Blossom without being too far away. We tried Hong Kong Garden and we were not able to finish all of our food. The crab rangoons had hardly any filling in them, the spring rolls were tiny and had a weird flavor, the chicken fingers too had a weird flavor, and the chicken lo mein was overpowered with oil and sodium. After years of going to Ginger Blossom, I did learn that sometimes Chinese food can vary wildly in consistency, so maybe we caught Hong Kong Garden on a bad day? But it was a really bad first impression and I'm not sure we'll give them a second chance because of it. read more

The food has never been bad there. We used to eat there all the time (almost everyday) when we lived nearby. We love the people who own/run the place, and it still is my favorite. First of all the waitress took our order while she was eating a sandwich. She gave us a pot of hot water with 1 tea bag. Took persuasion to get another tea bag. Kids playing a noisy video game 2 woman came on and wanted to sit more in the back to avoid a draft from the door. They refused them and they ended up leaving, which was a smart choice !!!! I ordered soup, I wanted to leave at that point but the person I was with wanted to stay. Just asked owners kids to turn down video games they ignored us do not visit this restaurant and I Use the word loosely. The Board of Health should visit this place read more

Got their food on New Year's Eve and we were shocked at how good it was. The rice was so flavorful without being total grease. Their other items were done so good I couldn't believe as NYE is usually crazy for Chinese Food in New England. You would have thought we were the only ones ordering that night. I was disappointed when my favorite Chinese restaurant in Springfield -- Joy of the Wok -- closed several years ago. And since I don't like the Chinese restaurant around the corner from my house, I decided to try Hong Kong Garden, which is only a 5-minute drive from me. I find their food to be very good and the service to be quick and friendly. Their chicken is real, not the mystery meat I have received at other Chinese restaurants. And the serving size of my order is fairly large, allowing me to have plenty of leftovers for the next day. The funny thing is, I always order the same thing -- General Tzo's Chicken, with white rice and an egg roll -- and they charge me a different price each time! It's only a difference of some small change, but sometimes I get the impression that the owner decides on the price when you come and pick up your order. Still, I've never felt like I've been overcharged, but it seems odd not to be consistent. I highly recommend Hong Kong Garden. read more

I love Hong Kong Garden and make the drive to get it even though I live off Sumner Ave and much closer to Wong Wok. The owners are so nice and they are always quick with the food. I love their fried dumplings and the sauce with them is perfect. I love their boneless spare ribs and chicken fingers and french fries and rice, ect.. My husband loves their wings. When I walked into Hong Kong Garden, a very small and unfurnished hole in the wall, a (around) 14 year old boy came to seat my family and me. He was obviously displeased that he had to get up from playing video games with his little brothers in the back table. We were the only people in the restaurant, so he took our drink order immediately. We ordered simple drinks, and he brought out what I guess would be the equivalent to bread, fried wontons, with a very watery sauce. He then took our orders, and went back into the kitchen where we heard continuous yelling between him and a woman, most likely his mom. After about ten minutes, all the food was brought out, and this is where things really started going downhill. The broccoli was hard and undercooked, the chicken was chewy, and all of the sauces were extremely watered down. The rice was also very over cooked and plain tasting. When we asked for an extra container, the young boy, who was still waiting on us, yelled from the dining area back into the kitchen for another box. In my opinion, I found this very disrespectful. I do, however rate the restaurant 1 star for the inexpensive bill and the 12/10 quality fortune cookies. read more
