Wow!! Really impressed with their food. Ordered takeout for the first time tonight: summer rolls, stirfry rice noodles w/beef, and crispy noodle stirfry with seafood. Luscious veggies including an abundance of my favorite, baby bok choy, delicately flavored and cooked just right. Rice noodles had perfect texture. And crispy noodles are just so fun to eat! Summer rolls were thoughtfully wrapped in plastic, so the leftover roll won't dry out in the fridge. I've been looking for a Western Massachusetts genuine Vietnamese restaurant. I found it here in Westfield. I came in with a 3 year old and customer service (can see hidden reviews that echo this---they shouldn't be hidden) was poor, especially if you're with a kid. I wanted Pho and I was willing to stick it out. The place was empty around 2:30 pm. I was told where to sit. I said we wanted a booth, despite being empty, I was told which booth. My kid ( I intervened) was scolded for touching the lazy susan condiment twirly things . I asked the host ( woman with earbuds, carrying a broom with colors and stripes) to remove the condiment lazy susan thing--problem solved or move the condiments (problem solved--would take all of one minute). The lazy susan is attached to the table. Fair enough. She wouldn't move the condiments though. I told her no worries, I eat with this kid at restaurants all the time. She then offered a high chair, I said I'd have him in my lap. I acquiesced and took the high chair. She was gruff and controlling enough. High chair was brought over. A rickety thing with the front beam hanging off was put at the head of the table and I helped her reassemble it. She held a screw driver. It was coated in black gunk. It was probably the dirtiest one I'd encountered ever. Food was ok. I ordered Pho--Beef and Beef Tendon. The tendon pieces were not what I expected. Usually in Boston or NYC, the tendon is clear pieces of tendon. This was beef slices with 'other' beef slices. Taste was fine. Bean sprouts plate, lime, hot pepper and Basil were on the add-it plate. She brought water for my kid with a lid with a straw. She brought the bowl I requested for my kid, warning me how hot the soup would be. My take is simply that she's got her experiences with kids in her restaurant and it's not been stellar. Westfield's got folks coming and going from all over the nation, largely due to the military base, the state university. I am going back. Yes I saw the kitchen--it's dirty. I can't say it any other way. Floor was with cracked tiles, some missing, dirty. I'm willing to take some risk. She wore the earbuds that another person spoke about in a hidden review. When we had to pay, I easily got her attention and we paid without event. I tipped her at 15%. Husband or cook in the kitchen waved to me in a mild polite fashion. The post covid world has been a weird place thus far. People seem angrier, less flowing with friendliness. I'v e got a thick skin. I would have walked out in some other year of my life. I found this restaurant while searching for Vegan food in Westfield or West Springfield area. I do not eat meat, fish, or eggs and was happy to see that reviewers were mentioning the Vegan Pho and many vegetarian and vegan options. My review is only based on what I ordered and might not be at all reflective of the rest of the menu. Fortunately, I asked about the Pho on the Vegetarian part of the menu. While it had tofu as a protein, it is in a beef broth- so not vegan or vegetarian. Most of the items on the vegetarian menu were made with fish. I ordered two dishes that were completely vegetarian and they were virtually the same- OK but very mild and not what I would expect for Vietnamese food. The fresh Spring Rolls were very good. I was grateful that the person taking my order was up front and helpful. The other customers seemed very happy with their food and seemed to be regulars. read more

We love this place and have been here too often to count. Two dishes have become our staples: 1) Broken rice with egg and chicken and 2) Tofu (or chicken) bún (vermicelli bowl). We had the pork bao buns, dumplings as appetizers, which were both great. Bao buns were better than the dumplings, but the dumplings were still good! Then we had the chicken pho & beef/brisket pho. Both were awesome and well worth the price, lots of noodles, meat was tender and the broth flavorful. Out of all of the restaurants we visited during our week in Westfield, this was our favorite! Good food and the wait wasn't too long. The spring rolls were very tasty and the peanut sauce was good. The chicken pho was flavorful and had an interesting spice added to it that made it different from other pho we've had before. The vermicelli bowl I had was good except the pork spring roll it came with wasn't cooked the best, it was soggy and not crispy. Really quaint, family run Vietnamese restaurant in Westfield. The owner and head chef is a women who is always impeccably dressed despite working in a kitchen. She frequently came out and welcomed guests, many of whom were regulars. Vietnamese music played quietly in the background of soft lighting and comfy booths, each table with its traditional accompaniment of soy sauce, sriracha, chop sticks, and soup spoons. I had to get the pho and was not disappointed. The broth was perfumed with richness from the bones. The meat was perfectly cooked, likely having been added to the soup raw and cooking, further flavoring the broth. As usual, it came with Thai basil, line, and bean sprouts, all portions were fresh. 100% what I needed and wanted on a cold end of winter/beginning of spring day. All very reasonably priced. My parents were very excited to bring me here when I was visiting them for Thanksgiving last month. Westfield doesn't have a whole lot of dining options, especially for anything other than American food. This restaurant is easy to miss on the main road in downtown Westfield as it is a bit of a hole in the wall. They have a BYOB policy, so we brought a bottle of wine with us to enjoy with our meal. There was a good sized group of us so we were able to order a bunch of different things off the menu and share. Because it was right after a holiday, many of their traditional items were unavailable, so I wasn't able to try their chicken wings, fresh rolls, or a few other things. I got their pan fried noodles, which I was expecting to be more dry, but they were quite wet. The flavor was good and the dish was packed with lots of veggies. My dad ordered the pho, which he loved. It was cold outside so the broth was nice and warming and the flavors were rich. We also shared a plate of fried rice, some shumai, egg rolls, and a few other things. My mom ordered some marinated pork over rice noodles. Her dish was arguably my favorite. Prices were super reasonable and the food came out reasonably quick considering they seemed understaffed and there were a lot of people dining in and carrying out. I'm glad my parents have found this place - they go there quite a bit. I would definitely go back if I lived in the area. read more

My wife and I recently moved to Westfield and Alo Saigon was one of the first restaurants we tried. My mom came with, as she was helping us paint our new house. The restaurant is super casual in the best way. So far (we've been twice), I've only seen one person working the room and she's very attentive! One thing I noticed is, once you sit down, they have an array of sauces and condiments at every table; lightly crunchy fried chili oil, pickled garlic, and I believe a Vietnamese hot chili sauce. The menu is expressive; it's the kind of menu where you would feel guilty if you ordered the same way twice. The first time I ordered pho and the second time I ordered "broken rice" with pork. The pho is flavorful and comes with the usual topping, which were crisp and fresh; basil, bean sprouts, jalapeño. The broken rice was delicious; the eggs were hard-cooked with crispy white edges and the pork chop was bone-in and heavily seasoned with Chinese 5 Spice (I think). Both times my family ordered a variety of starters; dumplings, shrimp balls, chicken wings (these were a stand out and function as an entree!), pork buns, egg buns, crab Rangoon, to name most of them. If I could summarize Alo Saigan: casual, fast, family-friendly, and exciting cuisine that is, instantly, recognizable as expertly prepared. Could it be the best Vietnamese in Western Mass? Don't order takeout unless you are still planning to cook at home. I am originally from California and from the ages of 12 to 18 I would have pho at least once a week dining in and ordering takeout from many different locations. Since I work only 2 minutes from Alo Saigon I thought I would give them a call and try their pho. On the phone their was already difficulty understanding my order and I could sense this was gonna be an issue upon arrival. I was told to give them 15mins before I pick up my food so bring generous I start my 2 min walk after 17 minutes of work. I get to the shop and I see who I can assume is the owner look at me and continue to walk to the register with no acknowledgement. I love how she can't even do the bare minimum of customer service for me, by just greeting me in. At the register she finally speaks to me by only saying my order back to me and I say that's correct and then she starts to ring me up for my pho and then tells me that it is not ready and I will have to wait a bit longer? It's already been 15mins but luckily it doesn't take too long to come out where the cook from the back brings it out and he takes his time to stare at me, just long enough to objectify me. Just before I leave the owner, (like I said, I'm just assuming), comes out with the sauces she charged me extra for but they weren't the right sauces. After telling her I wanted sriracha sauce she then says that it's on that table and I will have to pack it myself. Look, I don't mind ordering food and having to pack my own sauce but she charged me for sauce, and had the wrong one packed for me and made me fix her mistake. Very low quality service. Then I walk 2 mins back to my work and the pho is in a container that isn't obviously made for soup and such a small compartment with no room to add my mix ins. So bring a bowl to work if you want to order pho with these folks. Next, I pour the broth out and it's lukewarm! Pho is a hot soup! Plus this is takeout! What if I live 15mins away? I am just supposed to cook my takeout dinner at home? The whole point of takeout is to eat without worrying about cooking. It really sucks that this place didn't work out because I was already planning to come back with my husband and even more people if I thought this place was worth a try. But now I just don't ever want to see these people again. I was objectified and wasn't even given the bare minimum of customer service. No thanks! read more

While the Yelp app posts good reviews on food, one should mention how filthy and dirty this restaurant is. The jars of condiments are glass with plastic spoons in the jars. No thanks to that. Our waitress was rude, walking around with her air pods and on the phone. The windows are so dirty, the tables were sticky, nothing was wiped down. if you like carrots then the shrimp roll is for you. A tiny piece of shrimp with a slew of packed in carrots fried? Oh it's awful. Soup was good. It made me a little uneasy eating here. I don't think I would revisit or give a second chance on this one. If the environment was cleaner yes. It is filthy. so unkept.
