Loved their açaí bowl! Service was a bit slow though even though I was the only one inside. Very limited seating so I took my bowl to the beach.

The Lilikoi Bowl - Lilikoi is the base

Açaí cravings brought us to ALO CAFE HAWAII in Waikiki! What initially piqued my interest was the name. Is this cafe related to the yoga clothing brand "alo"?? Nope! :-) We decided to check it out anyway due to the rave reviews on their coffee and customer service. It was only 1-mile away from our resort, so we walked. ALO is situated in a building which was under construction, but the business is open. The cafe itself is on the smaller side...just enough room to place your order at the counter. There is a bar with maybe 3 seats available, but it certainly got crowded once we sat down to wait for our order. Don't let this deter from trying them out! We opted for the "Happy Bowl + Drink Combo" for a 10% discount. So, we ordered a Lilikoi Bowl + Iced Americano. Wow!!! I looked at my +1 and said, "We should've ordered two!" The bowl was so refreshing, fruits were crisp, the Lilikoi base was delicious!! Not very sweet. Nice compliment for the toppings. Of all the Açaí bowls I had on our 7-day vacation, would rank this as #1!! We loved this bowl so much, we decided to also check out the ALO cafe in Kaka'ako for lunch!

I was craving açaí and found this place I'd never tried before. The barista was super friendly and gave me the run down on all the different bowls. I tried the lilikoi bowl which is a bit more tart than traditional açaí and I really liked it. The fruit was super fresh and the agave syrup paired really well with the tartness of the base. They also give out free banana bread samples and repeat passes (15% or 20% off if you go again in 48 hrs). I highly recommend checking them out!

Came here because Kona Coffee Purveyors' line was too long. Had the açaí bowl and a latte. Açaí bowl was okay, but the coffee wasn't great. Wouldn't come here again.

Delicious smoothies.. love that it can be made dairy free. They also had some banana bread samples and mini loaf for sale which were great..

Always great service. The variety of smoothies, bowls, and banana bread continues to be a pleasant surprise. The staff are upbeat and helpful. We got the Waikiki Bliss and the Minty Hawaiian Smoothies this trip. Both were refreshing and delicious.

We got the medium acai bowl and they kindly let us substitute cacao nibs for kiwi! It is only $1 to upgrade so I would probably recommend upgrading. The acai bowls are a little bit more expensive than other places around here but more health focused (icier blend and less sweet and smooth). Comes with lots of yummy fruits and macadamia toppings. This location of ALO is more of a takeout place, not much seating! They also have a vegan banana bread that is made without added sugar, $7/ slice. Keep in mind there is a small credit card fee, 4% or something like that.

On my last visit, I searched high and low for an acai bowl to rival Da Cove, trying popular spots like Leahi, Lanikai Juice, and Nalu. All were just too sweet for my taste, making me wonder if they use those pre-made Costco packets. Enter Alo Cafe Waikiki, a small gem run by two lovely ladies, Aya and Christina. (There is a second location in Kakaako - I will being visiting again soon!). They even offered me samples of their delicious homemade banana bread (which I regretted not purchasing) and were happy to custom-make a mango smoothie (I would skip the smoothie next time personally, as it was nothing special?) The true highlight was their acai bowl, crafted from a homemade recipe. The texture was perfect - delightfully icy and, finally, not too sweet! I got the large, planning to share, but ended up devouring most of it. My only minor note is that I'd love more fruit, though you can add extra for a charge. Highly recommend!

Medium açaí bowl

We happened to be in Waikiki and wanted smoothies and found this place on yelp. It's a bit hidden the place has scaffolding around it right now. My husband got the medium açaí bowl which was good but pretty small for $15. And I got the island breeze smoothie which was $11 again pretty pricey but it is Waikiki so it's kinda expected. The drink was very tart and all I could really taste was the pineapple nothing else.

Lilikoi Bowls

Cute small shop with lots of healthy and fresh options. I opted for the lillikoi base because açaí is so much more common. It was a little bit more tart than I would have liked and not as blended - more icy. It was fine for fresh fruit base in Hawaii- but for the price $16 for the large i would have hope for more fruit toppings.

Açaí Bowl

Best place among the many in Waikiki to get açaí bowls. It's a way to both chill and be healthy. ALO is located in a pretty busy area. Kind of hard to find because it's an unassuming looking place. There's not much room inside so most people get takeout. A good place for breakfast and lunch. It's open pretty early so get a healthy start. The açaí bowls are the main thing. Fairly okay prices for the portions. They lack a lot into these. It's about $13 for a small one. The Açaí Bowl is the classic flavor, topped with bananas, blueberries, cacao nibs, granola, honey, macadamia nuts, pineapple, and strawberries. Honey can be changed to agave for no extra charge. They also have baked items like zucchini bread and that kind of stuff. Good place to get something cool literally and figuratively. It's located on Kūhiō at Ka'iulani. There's many options for vegans and vegetarians.

Lilikoi Bowls

We walked by and knew we had to stop in for breakfast treats once we saw that they had acai bowls. I got a small Lilikoi Bowl and it was tasty. The texture of the lilikoi base is icy and it does get sweet after awhile with all the fruits and toppings. The small bowl was a decent size, but I would't say it would fill you up.

Vegan Nutty Banana Toast

Here's a little "Hole In The Wall" fruit bowl cafe. It's a little hidden because of the scaffolding and the building looked abandoned due to all the boarded up windows. But it's there. Service- it was excellent and staff was very friendly. Food- had the Vegan Banana, peanut butter toast with chocolate nibs. Very healthy and filling. The peanut butter paired so well with the banana.

Three of us got the Iron Man Sandwich (only one of three got "spicy" and it was apparently not super spicy, so spice wimps like me could probably handle it), and my mother got the cheeseburger. The three of us with the Iron Man liked ours, but my Mom wasn't impressed with her burger. My husband also got a banana and peanut butter smoothie (the "nutty banana"), and my parents got the Nutella chocolate milks, and everyone was pretty happy with their drinks! The location itself is pretty cute and small, and appears to be operated solo by the lady we assumed to be the owner and eponymous "Blondie." She was really friendly and helpful while we were trying to decide what we all wanted (we can be a slightly indecisive bunch). I thought the wall of little index cards illustrated by various patrons showing where they were from was a really nice touch! We chose to sit indoors, since outdoor tables that would take four were occupied, but it might be noisy out there with the proximity to the main road. Inside the music can be a little loud, too, but the lady behind the counter turned it down some for us, which was kind of her to offer. Overall a decent little vegan sandwich shop with a great smoothie and drink selection! I think if my husband and I are about town on our own on our next visit to the islands, we might stop by again, but my parents will probably opt for other things given that my mother never gets beyond a first impression. Definitely worth trying if you're looking for a nice vegan meal and beverages!

What did I enjoy...well thanks to Nadine and some gift certificate she had it was a generous morning of fresh pineapple juice with breakfast sandwich on English muffin all vegan and plant based was just so light and refreshing which is a great way to start my day. The service is always so friendly at this family owned and run biz as they still keep to their amazing menu and vibe that they have here is just so nice and relaxing place. Thank you!

The fish was perfectly crispy with fresh slaw and really creamy sauces. The tortillas for the tacos tasted very fresh too, which made them even better. Both entrées came with lemon wedges that added a nice bright touch. The fish and chips were great and the fries were perfectly crisp. I still think about the crème brûlée. The texture and caramelized top were spot on. Portions were generous as well. We were staying at a nearby resort so it was an easy walk for us. The service was good, although we came when there was not much of a line. The truck is located in a lot with several other food trucks so it is easy to find. I cannot speak to parking since we walked. The vegan sour cream is so creamy, thr coleslaw is perfectly tangy and crunchy, and the vegan fish is delightful. My husband got the chicken tacos which were hot, in contrast to the fish tacos. They had avocado and a green sauce and we also liked these though the fish were our favorite. The hibiscus lemonade was lovely and refreshing also. The service here is very fast. The mai tai was unusual but palatable. The food was amazing! Still thinking about that Da Bao (Soy musubi patties, steamed buns, pickled carrots, daikon, jalapeños, cucumbers, cilantro, scallions, plum wine sauce) and how I'd like to eat it every day. The specialty rolls were works of art that were equally beautiful and had exquisite taste and texture. Manila Dune (Tempura pumpkin, spiced burdock, shredded tofu, avocado crema, chili, renkon chips) was dense but flavorful. Barbers (Smoked beets, spinach, avocado, soy strip, asparagus, rice crackers, seaweed pearls, spicy aioli, suspense) was intriguing as a little game of sushi roulette (hence the final ingredient). Whoever gets the spicy piece also gets the accompanying shot of sake. I was grateful my husband ended up getting that one because it was hot for him which means it would have been very hot for me. My only complaint with either of these specialty rolls is that each piece was quite large and therefor difficult to eat. I had to do the unconscionable thing and nibble away at it to comfortably eat it without it feeling like a choking hazard. Futo maki roll (Age tofu, spinach, shiitake, kanpyo, inari, pickled radish) was no less delicious for its simplicity. Quality was excellent, and everything on the menu sounded like something we wanted to try. We were so impressed by our meal we almost returned the following (our last) night. Lucky for us they have a restaurant in LA which I intend to visit next time I'm in town which is far more frequently than I'm in Honolulu. But would I consider flying to Oahu again for Tane Izakaya? Yes, yes I would.

It's made with amazake, Yuzu purée, unsweetened yuzu soda, and matcha from Japan. The combination sounds odd, but tasted great! There were bits of yuzu with rind on the bottom of the cup. The ricotta is so good on my walk back to the parking I heavily considered researching if it's possible to buy a similar vegan ricotta just from the store.
