It's a little corner kitchen where you order want you want at a window and take it to go or eat at the handful of tables and chairs they have on the patio. The service is quick and the staff polite. There are several outside tables to eat at if not taking home or back to your hotel. The main reason for the rating was that the food quality was a little lower that expected compared with other restaurants at their price point. We tried Topped twice in case the first time was just an off night, but in both cases, we found the beef in their beef & butter rice dish to be overly salty and not very tender, and the added egg was overcooked. We were so disappointed because of the great reviews. The pictures at the counter menu is different than what they serve. The meals now come with a salad drenched in honey mustard. My wife enjoyed her Kalbi Steak, and the soft eggs were cooked perfectly in all our dishes, however the rest of our dishes were drowned in sesame oil and honey mustard! Both the Beef & Butter, and the Shoyu Chicken were tender, but unfortunately the flavor was drowned out. I do not understand these joints that drench sauces all over their dishes! I thought the bowls came with pickled onions and sauces but this was just beef, an egg, rice and lettuce with dressing. Portions were larger than I expected for a 10pm late late dinner and also had a korean paste spicyness I wasn't expecting. It was really good even though I was really hungry. 1/7/23 It saddens me that I have to give this place 1 star because the pictures looked so good, but that expectation was crushed when Zach and I stopped by to get a quick bite for dinner. There was a handful of people waiting when we got there. It's a small menu and you order at a window. There is some outdoor seating. When your order is ready, there will be an automated message that tells you your order number and to pick up your meal. Upon check-in, you can get a free miso soup or drink. Here's what we got: 1. Organic tofu bibimbap set with a miso soup and kimchi. 2. Chicken mayo bibimbap (mine) + free miso soup with check in The food took about 25 minutes to be ready for pick up. They messed up the order because they forgot to include the miso soup with Zach's meal. The chicken and egg is good in taste but it was all drenched in mayonnaise. I enjoy mayo once in a while, but the amount they put in this single bowl was more than what I would eat in a year. Zach was also unhappy with his meal. He described it as "a bland tofu salad covered with sriracha". He had to force himself to finish his bowl. I couldn't finish mine at all due to the mayo overload. I could only tolerate a handful of bites before I started to feel sick. Zach did comment that the kimchi was okay, but it was very sad-looking. Even the miso soup was pretty abysmal... it would be more accurate to call it a cup of miso. Overall, the experience we had with Topped Waikiki was not good at all. We waited almost 30 minutes for unpleasant tasting food. We gave this place a chance and it was a fail. Best to skip this spot as there are definitely better spots to get food. read more

Chicken was chicken (looked a bit fake). Bulgogi was good & a pork. To be honest, I think optics plays a huge role. Food were serviced in those rectangular to go boxes (versus a bowl). First look, it looked like a very thin layer of rice & meat thrown on top, box looked empty. But if it were in a bowl it'd look more full & present as more for the value. Several people I went here with had food poisoning, and upon further research, many people have had food poisoning here before according to the health department.
