The technician struggled to remove the wax strips and had to yank my arms aggressively just to get them off. The nail technicians do not do what you ask them to do. It is intentional, it's not miscommunication. My technician was not consistent with using sanitized tools. I have polygel nail extensions, I came in for a fill-in and nail design. I asked for polygel and she started trying to do SNS which is totally different and would ruin my set. I said again, no these are gel, please use polygel. She said I should do SNS it is better, but I insisted. Then she tried to use acrylic which would also cause my set to crack and I again insisted that she go and get the gel. She finally got the gel and did the fill-in as I requested. But was annoyed I made her get up to get the polygel. She then tried to use cuticle clippers that were just used on another client and I had to ask her to just not clip my cuticles because that's not sanitary (could have blood on them). Then I showed her the picture of the design I wanted and picked the closest colors they had that I wanted on my nails (black and tan). She said since the gel extensions were already pink she was just going to paint my nails pink and get someone else to do the design on one nail. I insisted again that I wanted my nails black, and she said "okay I understand now". Then she painted my nails pink. I said again that I wanted them black, she claimed that was just a pink base coat and it would turn out black. It didn't, and when we were done she said "I just think the pink is prettier and it would be too much to paint it black". Then got everyone around to tell me how nice the pink was and now I will be charged paint them black. There was another woman in the salon who was speaking loudly with her technician about not getting what she asked for while I was there so this must be commonplace. My nails are structurally okay but they aren't what I asked for and I hate pink. I needed to go back to work or I would have pressed the matter to get them the correct color. I don't trust this place, they are going to do what is easiest for them not in the best interest of you, your nails, or your health. read more

Decent quality for the price. I paid $80 total for a gel mani and pedi combo (not including tip). That's a good deal for downtown DC, and I've been to many salons. That said, the craftsmanship isn't going to win awards here but you will probably walk away pretty satisfied at least if you stick to something simple--can't speak to more complicated styles/designs. The nail techs worked on my hands and feet simultaneously so I was out of there in an hour which to me is a huge win because the time wasted getting my nails done is what I hate most. Note that I came in on a Tuesday night so it was not busy. They went IN on my ingrown nails and cuticles, very attentive and detailed work there. Not so detailed on the edges as you can see from my photos. Probably didn't help that the massage chair was on but I still think a little more focus on the edges would have been nice (though the kind gentleman did try after I asked him to fix it). My experience was awful. They did a sloppy job on my pedicure, but it wasn't terrible. The biggest issue I had is that when I asked the tech to do a simple design she said that they "didn't do designs". I thought maybe it was the language barrier so I showed her an even simpler design then she made it clear "no design at all". I was in a rush and this was one of the only salons in the area open on Sunday so decided to stay and do just a plain acrylic set with chrome powder finish. When I first asked for chrome she said they didn't have it. Then another tech overheard and said that they did and showed her where it was. She DID NOT know how to use it. It's a simple process. Put powder on nail and buff it. The chrome finish was spotty and looked terrible. I didn't know you could ruin chrome! After paying and leaving the salon I also noticed one of my nails was very crooked. I will NEVER come here again. I do not recommend. read more

After having been served well on three to four different occasions Lynn refused to serve my 80 year old quadriplegic mother when she went to get her nails done. My mother has a nurse and aide who hold her hands and assist in the process but this particular day Lynn refused to serve her despite my mom having an appointment in a near empty salon. Lynn said the nails wouldn't come out right and someone needed to hold her hands. We noted that every other time they came out perfect AND the nurse and aide would hold my mother's hands for the service as they always have done. Lynn refused to serve my mother and simply said she had the right to refuse service. we are filing a discrimination suit. def don't go there! read more

This was my first time going to this nail bar so firstly when I walked in I was greeted and the place looks clean it was 30 minutes after they opened so I expected that but it was good energy and vibes on there I'm not sure what the guy name was that did my nails and my eyebrows. The pedicure was fine but after 3 attempts, including one by the manager Lynn( or maybe owner, depends on who you ask), the manicure came out crooked, unfinished, and left my hands colored all around the sides. Instead of a refund, Lynn chose to argue with me over what I requested. I left CRYING!! I came back after composing myself and got ignored. After reading all of the reviews I was extremely hesitant to come here. I had a horrible experience at the last place I went to near Georgetown. In hopes of having a more natural look I got my acrylics taken off and a gel coat over my natural nail. I was extremely pleased with the efficiency and service which was given to me. Terrible experience. The technician got polish all over the sides of my nail bed on multiple nails. That happens, and I figured she would just clean them at the end. But instead of cleaning with alcohol she proceeded to aggressively cut my cuticles to take off the polish (they had just been cut so you can guess how fun this was). When I told her don't cut them anymore she started to file my cuticles! My pinkie looks like someone chewed my cuticles off and it really hurts. There are other nails with the same polish on side issue but I decided to tell her to stop after she kept filing the nail polish off my skin! Not worth letting her try to "clean" all my nails after what she did to my pinkie. I'm here before a big trip so I had to let them finish because I am pressed for time, otherwise I'd have left mid service. I didn't get this tech's name, I'm just never coming back here. read more

I was in the area and walked-in to get a pedicure. They charged before they provided any services. Never seen that at a nail salon before. During my pedicure, the process was rushed, then the young woman used what looked like a cheese grater on my feet without asking. Today, the bottom of my feet have been hurting! My skin feels raw, irritated. I've looked it up and it isn't legal to use those cheese grater tools in many salons across the US. Hoping the irritation clears up quickly. I was looking for a nail salon near my job. Decided to stop here. Upon walking in, there is a sign on the door saying "call" before walking in.. "Okayyyy", strange, considering I did just that, and the phone continued to ring as I walked in. Woman spoke and I told her I wanted a manicure/ pedicure.. glanced at the desk and noticed the price list... $50 for a mani and another $50 for a pedi. No thank you, I'll just get the manicure. Sat on a chair and waited for someone to start working on me. Because I have gel on my regular nails, she wanted to do the long soak. I suggest the buffer to reduce time. Even that was time consuming. She began to file and started scratching my cuticles instead. I snatched my hand on 4 occasions. Finally the polish is off, nothing relaxing, but the homeless people right in front yelling made it dangerously interesting. Estimated time 1 hour and a half. I come in, I tell the manicurist I only want two fixed, he says no, do full set. I said I only want the two, don't need the whole thing done. He says okay fine, he goes to the back for 15 mins, I'm waiting. He comes out, sits at his station. Another patron walks in and is guided to his station. I ask the hist what's going on, he said he can fix my nails, the host comes back and says he said only full set. They wasted my time, and lied. This is the sort of review where one starts by saying 'if I could give NO STARS I would!' Honestly, so horrible. I'm seething at the thought of how much I spent and how horrible the job was ($62 for a pedicure and gel manicure, not including $10 tip). Let me describe the whole experience. First impression? So nice and clean, complete opposite of V Nails (my usual nail spot). They even use the plastic liner in the pedicure basin (though, they still have a filter so unless that's changed every person, it's in vain, but hey they tried). I pick my colors, time for the process. Pedicure is the only reason the place got 1 star. It was an ok pedicure. Not great, not horrible. Just slightly better than you can give yourself at home. The 'callus' shave was good. My feet are smooth, so I can't tell if she did anything, but she seemed to be trying. Next, on to the gel manicure. I sit down and there's another woman there getting a regular manicure. I look at her and can already tell how this is going to go. She looks frustrated and annoyed and keeps checking her nails while the tech is working on them. I sit down next to her. Here we go. The color I chose was definitely what I imagined - bright and lively. Yay for summer manis! The tech does her whole thing and then ... I notice bubbling under the UV light in between layers. I point this out to her, like 'Hey, these look like some intense bubbles.' She says something inaudible and then proceeds to add another layer and use her nail to remove some off the cuticles. Hm. Not at all addressing the main issue, but ok. OH! Let's not forget the woman next to me. At this point she's started vocalizing her frustration, asking the tech to redo certain nails and to paint it down to the cuticle, etc. There seems to be some issue because she's also paid already and you can tell she's unhappy about this. Now, my nails are continuing to bubble and I have the complete opposite issue - mine have been painted down to the cuticle and beyond... Yes, it's a nail nightmare. Ok. So neighboring nail victim has managed to upset her tech by requesting the job be done that the tech leaves and goes to the back, to never be seen again. She's now begun using the nail tools on herself, trimming things and grabbing acetone, and huffing at her receipt that she's already paid for the shit-tastic nail job. Ultimately, she tells another tech she wants to fully acetone off the color, get a full refund, and will now be going elsewhere to get them done. All the while, I'm sitting there looking at my nails like 'hm.' The tech starts saying how lovely a color it is - yeah. That's about the only lovely thing here. The freaking color. I start wondering if maybe my opinion of these 'bubbles' is being influenced by the tantrum near me, and if I go outside, to different lighting, it won't look the same. Nah. It looks the same. And worse. I've now paid $72 total for this shit job. Save yourself the hassle - go elsewhere. I now need to pay to have gel removed and get my nails redone. So yeah. Don't bother. read more

I have been going to allure nail bar for close to almost 3 years now seeing lyn the STORE MANAGER, I mean don't get me wrong she does her thing phenomenal work. however her attitude is non satisfactory at times she isn't pleasant when trying to lighten the mood during my appointments. I get it servicing our neighborhood you have to cater to a certain demographic that being said , I am an African American (black) woman who was not on one occasion in the last two weeks have been denied services! due to merge fact that about a month ago I got a set I was not satisfied with , so I voiced it and lyn blatantly ignored me once again. I was denied services that was around 3 weeks ago so this morning I get up and call and she said it's okay come on in. Upon my arrival she stated that no on would do my nails and that she HAD NO IDEA WHO I WAS , which is a lie it felt offensive as I watch her at the pedicure bowl taking care of a gel removal standing up. For the sake of my integrity as a black woman I refuse to give this business any more of my money.If I was a different race i'm sure she would have remembered me. I went for an acrylic fill in and design last Thursday and 7 out of my 10 nails are already chipped. The design is completely different than what I asked for and is different on both hands. I was also getting an acrylic nail replaced because it was coming off and they put one on that is noticeably much bigger than the other nails and made it in a different shape. I felt awkward so I paid full price and tipped but I will certainly not be going back. Complete waste of money, I have to go to a different salon to get them off because they are already ruined in a week. Don't waste your time or money read more

Been here twice. Both times I requested powder, each time was done differently. First time the lady used a UV lamp, and now it was without one. Slightly confused about that. Pay attention to details. She was absolutely fantastic in all aspects. I've been here before for a decent pedicure, so when my friend and I were in the area and wanted a manicure, we decided to swing in. Because it was a busy Saturday, she stopped in and made a 1:30 appointment time for us. Returning at 1:30, we were told the person with a 1pm appointment was 20 minutes late, so now we would have to wait. That was fine. We were offered tea and seats and perused nail colors. At 1:45 they sat us down for the powdered dip manicures. TWO full hours, $50 and SIX technicians later- I left with a manicure that would've looked better if I'd let my friends kid do it with drug store nail polish. If I were reading this, I'd assume the writer of this review was the problem, so let me assure you I was not. The first technician didn't know how to remove the powder i had on, so she started and passed me off to a gentleman. Another customer started causing a ruckus about why they were running late and when she could get her nails done, so he left me to take care of her. The next technician said she couldn't do powder, so after she cut down half my nails, she handed me off to someone else (and she moved and did my friends powder?!). The next woman did most of my manicure. She cut the other half my nails, filed them into a beautiful shape and pushed back my cuticles (this is where the stars come from! This part was beautiful!) She then went to the powder. She got up a number of times to check with another woman between steps, and this woman came back, checked her work, gave her pointers or, on two occasions, grabbed my hands and roughly and seemingly annoyed, filed or buffed the powder herself. The great nail shaper would then take back over and continue working. For the final check, the rough handler returned, over buffed, redipped one nail and just threw the clear coat on top. My hands are a mess. The color is spotty. Some have big matte patches, one has a huge lump in the polish that catches on sweaters. Some are thick. Some are thin. It's really really horrendous. The worst part of the whole thing to me, was THREE individuals reminding me as I left that "if anything is wrong you can just come back and we will fix it for free". Why not just do it right the first time? I will be getting it fixed. It won't be here. read more
