I'm extremely disappointed by the Allen Edmonds Factory for rejecting my request for having my favorite pair of shoes recrafted without consulting me. Over the years I have bought and owned several pairs of Allen Edmonds shoes and belts and the main reason from buying AE was because of their style and their recrafting services. However, rather than explaining, my shoes did not get the attention I was hoping for and frankly I no longer have any faith in AE brand or quality. Allen Edmonds is my introduction to quality leather, Goodyear welted dress shoes. I have slightly wider feet and buying shoes online without trying them on first is a huge hit or miss. This brand is one of the only shoe brands with shoes of this quality that I can try on in store. Scott helped me find my size in oxfords and loafers. I've added 3 pairs to my rotation in the last month. Look for shoes on sale. They have great deals with a huge selection and lots of widths. My husband needed a pair of great quality dress shoes for an event on the same day. The selection at Allen Edmonds did not disappoint! We were fortunate enough to be helped by Dan. From the get go, Dan was extremely kind, patient, and professional. Instead of asking my husband what size shoes he normally wore, Dan measured for my husband's shoe size and determined that my husband can go with a smaller size but wide. It was really great to work with Dan because he listened to my Husbands wants and was not at all pushy; plus he really knows shoes. Kyle was super professional, helpful, and just a great guy. I was actually a little bit nervous going in because I thought maybe the atmosphere of a higher end shoe store would be a bit "snobby," but Kyle was just a super chill guy and made me feel very welcomed and appreciated as a customer. I ordered a pair of Dark Chili Fifth Avenue Oxfords in size 9 D online for store-pickup because it was the last day of a sale they had at the time, but I was still planning on trying different sizes while I was there just to make sure since the last pair of AE's I bought were too big for me. Kyle was kind enough to help me try on the shoes I ordered, a pair in a different color, and a pair half a size down. He noted that my wider-skinny (I have a lower instep) feet means I have to wear medium-width shoes that end up leaving the shoe too roomy, so he threw in a couple of tongue pads to take up some of the extra room in the shoe. I was looking for a good quality leather shoe, made in the USA, with style and comfort, that could last a life-time. I did an extensive online search and eventually arrived at Allen Edmonds. After personally perusing the store, I found exactly what I wanted, but....the price was beyond my proposed budget. I waited for a sale, and after considering the cost and inspecting the quality, I was reminded of that old adage, "you get what you pay for," that one pair of Allen Edmonds shoes would outlast at least three consecutive pairs of your typical department-store brands. Hence, in the long run, you save money while gaining quality and style. This philosophy, like cheese, has improved with age as I realize that quality really does supersede quantity in many ways. For the past 10 years I've always worn Bruno Maglis for work. However, I would throw them away when they wore down, because it's such a pain to find a cobbler in this day and age. So I decided to make the jump to AE so I could take advantage of their well known recrafting services. Before I get into the pros and cons, I wanted to mention the location. This AE is located in the South Coast Plaza mall. It's a very nice, high end mall, but parking and locations can be confusing. The mall is shaped like the capital letter "H", and AE is located where the horizontal line meets the left vertical line. There are two Macy's right there, so just park by the Macy's. So pros and cons: PROS The service has been great at this location. They did a great job of answering my questions, educating me on the product (and shoes in general), and giving suggestions for fit and style. Also the online aspect of shopping with AE is really convenient. Shipping is fast, and there are a ton of great sales. Finally, the range of sizes they offer is great. I have short, wide feet, but they offer my size in every model. CONS Being Goodyear welted, these shoes are a little clunky and less elegant than the sleek Italian, Blake stitched shoes I was accustomed to. They have a few models that are a little more sleek, but if estimate that it's maybe only 1 model per style of shoe. Also the quality is great, but the shoes feel a little clunky and stiff. Again they're not soft and supple like an Italian style, Blake stitched shoe. That's not to say that I'm not happy with them (I am), and they should get better with use given the cork midsole and quality leather. They just don't feel as soft and luxurious right out of the box. read more

I used to be a fan of this brand and of this store. Kyle is an excellent salesman and has great customer service. But unfortunately I can't say the same for Dan Stratton, who told me he is the manager. Before I got my first pair of Allen Edmonds, I heard great things about them. And when I went in to this South Coast location, Kyle helped me find the perfect pair for my feet. And I have to say, those shoes fit me like a glove. I have flat feet and get a lot of pain in my feet. But these help a lot. Despite my great review of the shoes, however, Dan Stratton's customer service (or lack of it) was enough to counteract all my positive experiences. Within a span of 2 months, the bottom part of my shoes came off. The first time it came off, I went into the store and Kyle (who also helped me purchase the shoes in the first place) helped me out again and sent it in for a repair. However, a month and a half later, the SAME thing happened. So I took it in again. Not wanting to be rude about it (because of my positive experience with them in the past), I respectfully told the older gentleman (who turned out to be Dan) the situation. But as soon as I began to explain, I couldn't help but feel that he was rushing to get me out of there. I asked him if there would be any way I can get a new pair, since this pair is fairly new and this is already the second time that I had the same issue. None of my questions were answered. Every time, he'd brush it off with, "We can't do that." Not only was he incompetent, but he was also lazy. Feeling that this was going nowhere, I asked Dan if Kyle was in that day. Dan told me that he is not, and introduced himself as "Dan, Kyle's manager." Hahaha. Cute. I again told Dan that this was a recurring issue and I don't understand why they can't even look into getting me a new pair. He said, "it's just the glue..." Was he saying that their glue is faulty? Was he saying that their products are faulty? Or was he saying that their ability to repair shoes is faulty? Or was it all of the above? Which is it? This was when I was officially upset. To that, I responded, "Well I assume that this doesn't happen to all of your shoes, right...?" He says, "Right!" ...As if that didn't just contradict what he JUST said about it being "just the glue." Hahahaha. Again, cute. The entire time, he was completely unapologetic and attempted to make this situation seem like it's not their fault at all. Hahahaha. Nice try... And I have to say, he almost made me regret approaching him a nice manner initially. Perhaps I should have shown initially my frustration with the situation. Anyway, I will be contacting corporate about this situation. Maybe they'll replace the shoes. Maybe they won't. But they better have better service to offer than that incompetent fool that I had the pleasure of dealing with. If I am ever in a position to have to deal with this guy again, I now know that I'd have to be fully business with the guy and let him know everything he needs to hear as soon as I start talking, instead of trying to approach in a courteous manner. If any of you go into this store, I hope that Kyle is in that day, so you wouldn't have to deal with the idiocy that I had to deal with. Again, their shoes are great (except for this specific pair that I'm having issues with). They just need to do something about the homeboy in charge of this stores Kyle would make an excellent replacement, if you ask me. Then again, no one did, sooooo.... Very nice store with friendly customer service. My advice, if you're think of buying a pair of shows at this place, is do your research on what style and color you like first. For such an expensive shoe, you don't want to make a hasty decision or be talked into a pair you're thinking twice about later on. As most nice places, you will likely encounter being up-sold. So, do your homework first or you could wind up spending a lot on extras you originally didn't intend on (not that that's necessarily a bad thing). The service here was great. Greeted right away and you really get a sense of personal butler service. Expect to have your shoes put on by an associate, as is customary in most pro places. Isaiah was the person who helped me. Both gentlemen who work out of this store know their craft like Roger Federer knows tennis. Ive worked with both, though Kyle helped me out on my recent visit. He was like a shoe sales angel, sent from the skies above. Sized me perfectly (and im not easy to size. My right foot is bigger than my left, I have the flattest feet, and my weight changes almost quarterly). Kyle explained everything I wanted to know accurately and concisely. My shoes arrived less than a week later and the way they fit and the way they felt just simply made me smile (and im not even a shoe guy by any means). The quality of the leather AE uses and the craftsmanship are by far the best value you can get for the price point. I was very impressed by the superb customer service I received from Kyle R. That type of service is hard to come across these days. It reminds me of the days when the shoe salesmen at Nordstrom used to wear suits and would put the shoes on your feet. Now Nordys has the most trashy people working there. Kyle was very friendly, helpful, and concerned with my fit. And lucky for me, the shoes were $100 off, which put them into the range I would be willing to pay. They are fashionable, yet comfortable. Not only excellent products, but also excellent service! AE was one of those pairs that I've always dreamed about getting and a few weeks ago I finally pulled the trigger! I purchased a pair of (Rogue Cap-toe Oxford) on AE's website and received it last Friday. The problem was one side of the shoe was slightly creased. Disappointed, I decided to contact AE's customer service to express my concerns. Since I purchased them directly, they advised me to go to the local store to see if they had any extra pairs or if it can be fixed. Me and my roommate decided to go to the store that day and that is where we met Dan. Dan was the most coolest, honest, laid back, and knowledgeable(shoes) person I have ever met. It went from him looking at my shoes to, teaching me on how to take care of my shoes. The importance of putting on polish, dressing, shoe tree. A 5 min trip turned into 30 minutes of learning about shoes and also AE's history. You simply do not find experts in style and product that you find at AE in Costa Mesa. The Manager, Dan is in touch with all the the style you need to to know from casual to black tie. He knows what is is traditional and knows what is sprezzatura and who whould be wearing what. If you are going to lay down a couple of bucks for a pair of AE's why not have the confidence that you are buying the right thing? I love a good pair of Allen Edmonds. I've owned the Jefferson for several years now and give it 10/10. I also own a pair of Park Avenues, which are solid, but probably closer to a 6-7/10. I recently had a fraudulent transaction show up on my credit card. I've had my credit card for a while and I typically shop at the same places without issue. I was going through my credit card purchase history trying to figure out where my card information could have been stolen. The most credible candidate I came up with was this Allen Edmonds store. It's somewhere I don't shop regularly and there were irregularities in how my card was handled in the store. To get this out of the way: I actually like my shoes so far. I've owned them for a little while now and they seem like quality shoes. I've shopped at this store several years ago for a another pair without issue. Allen Edmonds shoes are very decent and seem like good value for the price. If I didn't have my credit card stolen I would rate the shoes 4/5. The extra point would be reserved because I haven't seen the durability of the shoes tested long-term in my use case. The first week they aggravated my heals but after that I didn't have a problem and they felt comfortable. Kyle (assistant manager?), was very helpful in my sizing my shoe and showing me options. After picking out my shoes, I went the register to pay and the sales agent asked to see my card. This is unusual. Typically I swipe or insert my card in some terminal. For some reason, however, they requested to see my card and started typing in the digits manually. That struck me as very odd since I've made larger purchases without handing over my card. I didn't think too much of it at the time but in retrospect it was the perfect opportunity for them to steal my credit card information. I understand these are serious accusations. I'm not saying that they purposely stole my card information (although they might have). It's also possible that they have a security breach in their payment system which is leaking information. It could also be a rogue employee stealing information or some combination of the above. What I'm saying is: if you like their shoes/goods and shop, maybe pay in cash instead of card. I'm hoping that my bank (Chase) will eventually track this down but in the meantime, be safe. In retrospect, Allen Edmonds is the perfect place to steal credit card information: it's patronized by wealthy individuals who may not notice minor or even moderate charges slip by on their statements. As a bonus, those individuals probably have high credit limits too. Honestly, if Chase hadn't flagged the charges as fraudulent I wouldn't have noticed either. Be careful. read more

I usually buy all my Allen Edmonds from Nordstrom, but they were running a great promotion and I had to come in to check it out. The moment I arrived I was helped immediately by Byron Q. The first thing I noticed was his professional demeanor and how sharp he kept this shoes. He was sporting McAllister Wingtip Oxfords in Dark Chili leather - a beautiful shoe. I came in to just to try out sizes and pick up a pair of Strand's in Merlot leather, but ended up spending an hour in the store trying on more footwear and checking out the rest of their merchandise. I looked at their belts, trees, socks, accessories, and leather care kit. Byron made sure to show me all they had to offer and gave me a lesson on the manufacturing and maintenance of all their products. In the end, I happily spent over 5 times what I had intended. Had it not been for the great service I received, I may have just tried the shoes in store and bought them online. This is a review for the service at this store ( I bought the shoes online) I came here on Sunday March the 2nd around around 330 pm - so corporate you can look up who was here if you care. Came in to get fitted and sized. The cashier came up to greet me and I told him I'd like to double check my size since Allen edmond's website suggested I do so because their print out sizing chart wasn't as good. The man with the curly hair told me "oh you can get sized once you bring the shoes in". The guy really didn't want to measure my size if I wasn't going to buy anything there. Oh really? I knew this was total bullshit so I insisted. Finally, after I wasn't going to leave, he reluctantly agreed to measure my size . Their website advertises an original American company. Their stores are more like American snobbery. I am now debating on returning my shoes based on this experience and giving another company my money. read more

I love these shoes so much and I still wear them at least 4 times a week and have never had them repaired. Today, I walked in and was greeted and helped by Dan again!
