I hadn't been here in a while so with this visit I'm updating my review. The service was great, I still love the outdoor seating, everything was really clean and tidy. I had the Chicken Ravioli with Mushroom cream sauce, bread basket and Salted Caramel Gelato. My friend had the lunch special of half a Hero sandwich with tortellini soup and also the lemon tart. The Ravioli was okay. I didn't like that the chicken filling was chunky and the sauce needed a touch of salt, which was an easy fix. I'd order something else next time. The bread use to be complimentary but this time it cost $3.00 for 2 people. It was a really yummy mix of breads so I'd pay for it again. I love that they give you oil & vinegar for dipping. The Gelato is one scoop, but it was so creamy and had small caramel filled chocolates in it. Just the right size after a filling meal. My friend liked the soup but the chili oil in the sandwich was way too spicy for her. Not sure why they think that chili oil is a good idea. It's hot!! The lemon tart is small but tasty. Overall I still like Allegro, but would try other dishes next time. read more

Ambiance was great. And the service was great! I was really hoping the food was going to be just as good. It looked great but unfortunately it was very dry. I love cheese and I can't believe I'm saying this, but the lasagna was just too mucb cheese. Ambiance: I do not recommend if you're looking for a nice quiet meal with conversation. Very loud, hard to hear and talk without having to yell. Service: Our server was very nice, however, it took over 30 minutes just to get our drinks, 45 minutes for our meals. Food: Caprese salad was ok. The tomatoes were warm in temperature. Farfalle Shrimp Pasta was very bland. The use of tiny shrimps was an epic fail. read more

Came here to for a girl's luncheon. They have a nice lunch menu! For $17 you get coffee or tea and a dinner-size entree. We ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. It was tasty but the chicken needed more seasoning for my taste. We also ordered the spaghetti bolognese. It was very good! We ordered two of each to share. Good selection of desserts too. read more

We visited Allegro for lunch , it wasn't busy so we were seated right away . The place was huge with tables inside and outside as well . Started with calamari and dates , they're both delicious and the calamari was very crispy outside and tender inside . My bestie ordered fettuccine Alfredo with chicken , it was very creamy and tasty but for me the chicken was a bit dry . Service was amazing , our server frequently checks on us and refilled our drinks . Strawberry lemonade was my favorite ! This place will be our favorite lunch restaurant! read more

My friends and I dined at Allegro in Downtown Upland last night. It was our first time there. I think we were all pretty happy with the place. I had the Penne Dynamite which is "Italian sausage, tomatoes, white wine, red pepper flakes, garlic, shallots, and cilantro." I had them hold the cilantro... I'm not a fan. It was quite flavorful with just enough heat to be noticed but not so much that it set my mouth on fire. It was just right. I would definitely order that again. I shared photos of before and after the Parmesan was applied. Other dishes shown are Chicken Piccata, Fettuccini Carbonara, and Spaghetti Bolognese. It all looked delicious and everyone seemed quite satisfied. We all shared a plate (four pieces) of garlic bread with mozzarella on top. That was excellent as well. I didn't catch our server's name but the receipt says it was Samantha. She was very helpful when we were all trying to decide what to order. She was very attentive as well. Thank you. Found this place on Yelp and to be honest I have no regrets. We made reservations but it wasn't written down but the guy was actually nice and was able to get us the next table. We were seated and greeted. The food was delish! The bruschetta was good and wasn't hard to chew on. Penne explosive was delish with a kick to it. I got the linguine clams and wow that was yummmmy! The white sauce was perfect. They have street parking which was easy to find. Server was nice and it's clean inside. read more

Went to Allegro with a friend to celebrate my 43rd birthday and had a great time. The atmosphere was nice and had that local feel--like the kind of place where everyone knows each other, but it's still really welcoming. The food was solid and the service was great--our server was attentive without being overbearing. For the, the best part was the drinks. The bartender was awesome--cool vibe, super friendly and she still made a really good Old Fashioned. Definitely planning to come back. It's a great spot to unwind, eat well, and enjoy a good drink. read more

Not my favorite location but decent enough. Went during the lemon festival and it looked like they were super understaffed. Hostess seemed very annoyed we came in like we were an inconvenience. The server (which seemed she was the only one) was so nice. Very accommodating and helpful. Really appreciated the help. Gotta pay for bread now, yay inflation but totally get it. The GIARDINO was packed with veggies but very simple. It was dressed with olive oil but needed lots of salt. It was a good simple dish. The BLACKENED SALMON SALAD is a go to for the rest of my fam. The fish was perfectly cooked and the salad was a good size. read more

Delicious food and drinks! I've been doing allegro in la Verne, and the last few times have felt they haven't been as good as they used to be so I tried upland and it did not disappoint! The menu here is a little more extensive than the other restaurant. I tried the lasagna with sausage & bolognese, trio meatballs, garlic bread and shrimp scampi and it was all delicious! When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's Allegro! Well technically it's Amore but it's my take. Allegro will definitely put a smile on your face with most of their wonderful Italian dishes. I started off with their salumi e formaggi which is an assorted cheese and cured meat plate which was good. Next I had the bacon wrapped dates and this was quite delicious and the perfect small portion. For my main I had their chicken ravioli with a creamy mushroom sauce that was good also. The second time around I ordered the beef fillet with Gorgonzola green sauce made of peppers. So far everything that I ordered was good. I used to love this restaurant so much. Lately, not so much. The last few times I have dined here the food is never hot! That is one of the things I used to love about dining at Cafe' Alegro, hot food always. Now it's a huge problem getting your food how it should be served. Food is on the pricey side. I think if they're charging that much for pasta dishes, they should include the bread basket for free instead of charging $5 for it. I ordered a chicken Marsala, the portion is big, plenty of chicken. The pasta tastes really well with the sauce. The chicken was on the dry side. Service is great! Ambiance is okay. I prefer the LaVerne location ambiance. read more

We were really excited to try this place. The atmosphere looked really nice and upscale while not looking too over the top. When we walked in, the restaurant looked slow for a Saturday. We waited nearly 5 minutes to be greeted, put on a list and told it would be ten minutes to be sat. We figured we'd heard a ton of good about the restaurant so figured we'd let that go, maybe they were short staffed. Nearly 20 minutes later with no one coming to the hostess station and several parties walking out, we finally gave up and did the same. It's a shame, the place seemed to have such good potential. I'm not sure we'd give it another shot based on this initial encounter. read more

Calamari was good service was great, wife had 2 sauced salmon which she thought had little to know flavor she did love the spinach on it. I got the spaghetti bolognese and it seemed like the meat for it didn't go well even though it was ground ribeye and there was little to no sauce. This place is closer to 3 1/2 stars and will try again as I like the decor. read more

My wife and I went out to celebrate our anniversary and chose Allegro mostly because of distance and we feel like it's a hidden little gem. We got there without reservations and asked if we could sit at the bar until we could get seated and that was the best decision. It really just felt like a date we'd go on before Covid, before having a baby. It was dark, romantic - just the way we like it. We had so much fun sitting at the bar and talking with Cortney. She was an absolute delight - kind, friendly, funny, knowledgeable. Thank you for the chat, Cortney! We ordered a Garden Collins, Margarita (which was so unique with Disaronno as an ingredient) and the Espresso Martini. All awesome with the Garden Collins being our favorite. The food (which you'll see in the photos) was terrific. We were really close to not getting the Chicken Marsala but the server changed our mind and we're glad she did because it was our favorite part of the meal. The crème brûlée was really good as well - would recommend. They also have another location in La Verne, too, which we now plan on checking out. The worst part of the night was having to see the Celtics win the game against the Heat! =D read more

We called to make a reservation and were told that the time we wanted to come wouldn't be busy and to just come walk in. We came at the exact time that we mentioned and it was packed! Not only packed but with an hour wait! When we explained that we had called and what they had told us, she said "well I don't know what to tell you". I couldn't believe they couldn't accommodate two people for their assumption and there was no courtesy at all. I got engaged here quite some time ago. It's a special place in my heart. Everything is really great, service, atmosphere, amount of seating, food quality and portions, flavors. We've been here a couple times now and this time in a group. Our waitress did really well keeping up with everyone outside. Love that downtown Upland has a busier nightlife for people watching but it all shuts down pretty quickly in the 9 o'clock hour. The patio was a nice change, and a great way to enjoy our dinner. They don't take reservations but were good about getting us in quickly. read more

Enjoyed a nice lunch with a colleague. I did not make reservations, but thankfully, even with the restaurant being very busy we were able to get a table right away. I enjoyed the pear martini. My friend had the scallops and said it was really good. I ordered the short ribs...the menu says it comes with mashed potatoes but the server said that is only offered at dinner time so I opted to have the roasted potatoes. The meat was tender but it was a bit salty. I think it would have been better with mashed potatoes. One of my pet peeves...if you offer something on the menu, then it should be served or available. I should have switched to a pasta dish but was craving that protein. For dessert I had the tiramisu and my friend had the lemon tart. She said it was delicious. My tiramisu was just a tad bit more cream than ladyfingers. I'd still like to go back and try pasta dishes. Service was excellent. read more

This place is pretty good for the area! Nothing to write home about, the flavors are just okay, but the portions are big. When comparing it to LA Italian restaurants, I'd give it a 3/5, which is great considering the number of incredible Italian restaurants sprawled across LA that makes it a bit difficult to compare to. A big issue I have with this restaurant is the price. Extremely overpriced for the area when compared to a big city like LA. How is it more expensive than some mind blowing 5 star Italian restaurants smack dab in West Hollywood or Beverly Hills? This is Upland lol. It just doesn't make sense. Capellini Pasta w/ shrimp - 3.5/5 - it was good but the shrimp add on was baby shrimps?!? $28 for baby shrimps that should be in a salad. You'd think they would add actual prawns since the up charge was ridic, but no, just sad tiny little baby shrimps...very disappointing! Carbonara - 3/5 - pretty good but the pancetta wasn't the best. Big portion tho! Seafood pasta w/ clams in white wine sauce - 3.5/5 - it was good but I've still had much better flavor wise. The sauce was a bit too thick for the type of pasta I was hoping for. portion on this one was good too tho. All in all, pretty good. But I'm still on the hunt for my go to Italian spot in the area that makes more sense for me! read more

Ive been here at least 4 times and the food has always been great. The portions are big and packed with flavor! The ambience is very romantic as the lights are dim and the tables have candles. I definitely recommend this place for dates! The only reason for the one star is due to the tables. Two out of the four times I've been here I always get an uneven table that moves whenever something is placed on it. Besides that, the service and food 5/5 read more

Doniele is a kind, helpful, and patient waitress. The artichoke/spin shrimp dip appetizer tasted like cheese soup with shrimp and a few pieces of spinach that sat inside the outer petals of an artichoke. Not what I expect in a spin dip. The shrimp scampi was so dry that I could only take 2 bites. Their clam pasta dish is creamy and tasty. However, my stomach didn't agree with the sauce on that either. I came here for the first time and I have to say, I was NOT impressed. The service was fine but everyone at our table complained that the food was VERY bland. EVERYTHING lacked flavor. It's like they forgot to season the food. The lasagna was just a pile of mush, salmon was tasteless, and my ahi plate had no flavor, the tuna was a bit tough. I just don't know what all the hype is about this place. I was very disappointed. The only positive thing I can say about this place is that the staff was pleasant as well as the atmosphere. Also, they need window shades. That sun is brutal in the evening time! Unfortunately I will not be going back. read more

My husband and I have had a few meals at their Upland location and knew it would be a great place to host a dinner party. Reasonable priced and the service was awesome! My family was super happy and left full :) Its got a great atmosphere and I was even allowed to take photos! Large Party Menu is available on their website, and management was amazing! read more

The looks we received made us feel like we didn't belong there, and that isn't how any customer should feel when trying a new restaurant. We had a great experience at Allegro for dinner around 8:30 PM. The restaurant had a nice ambiance--low lighting with a relaxed atmosphere and a soft hum of conversation from other guests. It was busy but not overcrowded, and we were seated in a timely manner. Our waitress was very attentive, checking in often without being overbearing, which made the service feel warm and welcoming. For an appetizer, we ordered the calamari, and it was really good. The breading was perfectly crisp, adding a nice crunch without being too heavy. The sauce that came with it complemented it well, adding extra flavor without overpowering the dish. For entrees, I had the Salmon Capellini, and it was excellent. Food and drinks were good as usual, but the inside of the restaurant was so hot we could swear the heater was on! My husband runs cold and even he was sweating. Additionally, we were sat in direct sunlight because the outside blinds were raised. When we asked our waitress if she could lower them, she apologized and said they are broken and unable to come down. We then asked her if she could lower the A/C, when she informed us that was also broken, but getting serviced within the next few days. Though she was sweet and apologetic, we were very upset about our experience and asked if Alan, the owner was there. We met him several years ago and have always supported his business. She informed us that he was not there. When we asked to speak to a general manager, she said he was also not there. What kind of restaurant doesn't have a general manager? She told us we could speak to her supervisor, who was behind the bar, or she could take down our information and upper management would reach out to us, but we declined. This is still our favorite Italian restaurant in the area, closed doors for quite some time during the early days of the pandemic. We have been coming here for years. Jump forward we decided to order take out today Sunday, Sept. 6th due to the excessive heat, we opted not to dine there, even though Allegro is set up for outside dining and a large space covered with tables outside to do so. Every time we go here things are spot on, ordered our Spaghetti Bolognese, Ceasar Salad, and of course, I always have the Brodo Tortellini Soup, it is the best. Everything was amazing, we love the ambiance of this restaurant and of course when things cool down, back on the patio, and looking forward dining back into the restaurant again when things get back to normal. If you have not tried this restaurant, we would highly recommend, an amazing chef, and all the staff is wonderful. Keep up the great work! read more

I loved this place for years now!!! Had my bridal shower here, have celebrated birthdays here, etc. Stopped in today for lunch as I was at the Irish Festival. The place wasn't packed no wait, yet was walked by 5 times before we were seated. We sat outside and continued to wait and wait and wait some more. Never was brought water or said anything to. The server and older woman stoped at the table next to ours and asked if he was done, he asked for the check. She didn't ask us for our order just walked away. We continued to wait another 15 mins now we've been waiting for 20 plus minutes at our table. Finally we got up and left. As we were hungry and didn't have anymore patience to wait for orders to be taken not to mention wait for food. Sad! read more

I had an amazing experience at Allegro, and I owe a huge thanks to Cortney, the bartender! From the moment we sat down, Cortney's warm smile and friendly demeanor made us feel right at home. Her cocktail recommendations were spot on--each drink was perfectly crafted and delicious. I loved the Pear Flower Martini, which was refreshing and beautifully presented. Beyond the drinks, Cortney's knowledge of the menu helped us choose some fantastic appetizers. She was attentive without being intrusive, making sure our glasses were never empty and our experience was top-notch. Brought my family here to enjoy a nice Sunday dinner before the kids go back to school. Unfortunately, it was rather unpleasant. The inside of the restaurant alone was so hot we were sweating over our food. Our kids complained about the heat and the sun in their eyes. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive, and she apologized for the sun and A/C as their blinds and air conditioner were both broken. I get that it's out of her control, but you would think things that affect the ambiance of your restaurant would be tended to quickly. Food was just okay, but cocktails were good. PROFILING!! me and my husband keep giving this place a chance because it is near our business. But EVERY TIME we get profiled. TWICE WE HAVE BEING DENIED SERVICE. Today for example It is 8:07 they close at 9pm and they say they are no longer taking tables fpr the night. And the way the hostess look at us every time from head to toe is so demeaning. When my shrimp scampi finally came, it was tasteless and carried a strong smell and flavor of bleach, indicating it might have been washed with bleach to remove any fishy scent. I have been here a few times. the restaurant is very conveniently located but parking can be a hassle.. first time i made reservations well in advanced as sometimes it gets crowded..each pasta dish was better than the previous. That is a small personal pizza with a salad and we each got that. Salads came out first and I had the arugula salad, which was absolutely phenomenal. 10 of 10 would eat this every single day. The arugula was peppery and it was well dressed in a lemon vinaigrette type sauce. I am a fan of just plain lemon on mine, but this was delicious. My husband got a union salad, which is their specialty I guess. It's got colored carrots and some beets and some shallots. I thought the dressing was bland and it certainly needed salt and pepper. We asked for both and didn't get either. Our pieces came out and they were nice and woodfired. I feel like they could've been done just a little bit longer maybe a minute or two. The sauce was a lovely fresh type crushed tomato sauce. The cheese was nice and gooey and did not feel or taste like a package of processed cheese. Pepperonis were greasy, but in a real meat kind of way. I had to dab mine, but my husband just went to town on his. The pickled peppers is a pickled jalapeño. Big chunks of them. They certainly didn't skimp on any of the toppings. They were a little sweet and a little hot. The décor is classy without trying too hard, and the atmosphere is exactly what downtown Ontario has been missing. Then there's the music. The DJ absolutely crushed it. Every song fit the vibe, the energy was great all night, and I have to give him credit for those awesome glasses too! The food was outstanding. I ordered the oysters and they were fresh and absolutely delicious. They were on the smaller side, but they tasted so good that I finished my first order and immediately ordered six more. My wife ordered the pork bao buns and they were incredible. The pork was tender, packed with flavor, and they disappeared fast. I barely had a chance to steal a bite. I also have to give a huge shout out to Noah behind the bar. He isn't just a bartender. He's a true mixologist. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and made some fantastic drinks. You can tell he really enjoys what he does. Before we left, the owners told us they're starting Sunday brunch on July 19, 2026, with bottomless mimosas and micheladas. We are definitely going to try to get a table because this is one place we'll be coming back to. Cocktails are around $17 each, which adds up quickly, especially when most places around here are closer to $14. The drinks are balanced and taste good, but they are not very strong, so for the price I expected a little more. We also had the same server both times, and unfortunately his knowledge of gluten-free options was disappointing. The happy hour menu has very few gluten-free choices, so if you have a gluten allergy or sensitivity, you are pretty much pushed into ordering from the full-price menu. I ordered the tuna stack for $22, and there was very little tuna. It was mostly jamaica and cucumber, so it did not feel worth the price. Service was also very slow. My friend ordered the ceviche and it never came. When we finally asked about it, our server said the kitchen must have given it to another table, but it honestly felt more like the order was forgotten. Even getting water refills took a long time. I'm conflicted because I really want to support this restaurant, especially knowing it is owned by two women. I also really like the vibe, the rooftop setting, and the whole concept. There is so much potential here. But for the prices they are charging, the service, food execution, portions, and overall experience need to be more consistent.
