Been meaning to write this for months! Sorry about the delay. My husband and I bought a house without knowing the horrors waiting for us under the concrete in the basement. When the sewer started backing up we called one company that didn't seem to have the time for us. Bert came and found a horribly broken sewer line. He ended up replacing 25 feet of sewer line, installing a back flow valve and a discharge pump, and fixing the (surprise) illegal pipework the previous owners had left under the floor. It was a huge job, but Bert and his crew worked efficiently and expertly even with the unforeseen complications and for a fair price. What a positive experience! It's no wonder there are so many high reviews. We had a major issue with the main sewer line and are very happy and pleased to connect with Bert. Work had to be done both inside and outside our home. The indoor work required cutting though tile and jack-hammering through the concrete floor to get to the area where the house connects to the main line. Yikes! Bert and assistant Brendan fully protected the surrounding area, but more than that, when this extensive work was complete the area was spotless. The process of finding any home repair service is nerve wracking and difficult, I am skeptical, always. In my research, I found that Bert and All Rooter gave less than competitive rates. In addition, Bert was very responsive and honest. I called on a Friday and he came out on a Saturday - he would have come out on the Friday but my tenants were not avail. The sink line from dishwasher to kitchen sink was clogged and the grease trap was filled. He came and fixed and gave my tenant tips on how to slow down the process of something like this from happening. I called All Rooter and Plumbing. I had a a bathroom sink that I was not able to use because of being blocked. Bert came and fixed the problem. The other problem I had was water coming out when using the kitchen sink and wash machines. He had to clean out all the grease out of the drains. He brought in a sludge truck in to pump out all the grease and hydrojetted the pipes. He showed me by running the camera from the beginning all the way out to the city pipes. The pipes were so clean you would have thought he put new ones in. I can only tell you that Bert is very honest and will explain to you everything before he starts the job. They came on time to replace the pipe and showed me what was being replaced. We had some issues on Sunday fairly last minute due to backlog and he came out to address them and did not charge extra. Bert and All Rooter saved our arses. A pipe burst in our master bathroom during the Polar Vortex when the same thing was happening all over the city. Pretty much every plumber in Chicago was working around the clock. We must have called 20 plumbers before reaching Bert. The majority of them said the soonest they could get to us would be 24-48 hours. Bert got to us in 20 minutes. He and his partner spent from 8pm to 12am (on a Friday no less) at our place. Locating the ruptured pipe required him to cut into both tile and drywall. In each case he was very careful to minimize the damage to limit the follow up repair work. Considering it was an after hours call (at a time when we were desperate) I feel like the charge for his services was very reasonable. Incidentally, his phone was ringing off the hook almost the whole time he was at our place. We were very lucky to have gotten through to him when we did. Then, in the days that followed, another unit in our building was experiencing water pressure issues related to the main shut off being turned on and off during the repairs to our ruptured pipe. He came back and fixed the problem free of charge. If we ever have another plumbing issue, we will definitely be calling Bert. read more

When I bought my house 3 years ago I needed a good plumber because of a water main leak. Being disappointed by all my plumbers I tried Craigslist and found Bert. I can't say enough about Bert and his staff. I had a plumbing issue in our condo that lasted for multiple months. Our building's kitchen line would become clogged and sewage water came up our sink because we were on the bottom floor. One plumbing service would resolve it by rodding the line, and the problem would return time after time. Finally, the other services gave up on it. One even had a warranty and had to refund us on it. They said they couldn't find the catch basin, they said the pipes were too narrow to put in a camera, there was too much risk to hydro jet it. Bert not only came up with answers, but he came up with ones that finally brought an end to our issue. There was even a point where we were discussing excavation, which would have brought him more money, but he wanted to try something different, which worked, and cost me a whole lot less. We have had constant problems with water seeping through the basement wall since we moved in 2 years ago and went through several opinions on what to do before going immediately with Bert's. He was very thorough, honest, and communicative during the estimate and was able to start work on our huge project immediately. The cost was either similar to or less than the other estimates, and he was very cooperative with the basement waterproofing team that we hired to do external wall encapsulation while the side of the house was dug up for Bert to replace the pipes. He also was a good advocate with the City inspector when he found a problem that the City needed to fix with some pipes.
