We recently boarded our two dogs( Maltese mix & terrier/pitbull mix: we got them at shelters so their lineage is a question mark). The bread of the pitbull mix matters because some shelters won't take " pitbull's". ( pitbull owners know the struggle). My question to Russ and their team (about whether they would board my dogs) was "yes, all dogs". My dogs love each other and wouldn't dream of separating them; they were housed together. Also, they have space to run around monitored by staff who love dogs...my dogs are people friendly, not so much dog friendly and they didn't have any problems the entire time. Everything is very straight forward here...if I was a dog, this is where I'd want to go! Russ (owner) and his team are friendly and responsive, particularly leading up to the boarding appointment (which I recommend). In terms of cost, I'm not sure they are any more or less than other places. If you're going to have professions care for your dogs, it's not going to be cheap, in my experience. Ultimately, my family and I are going to see the country this year and when we can't bring our dogs. They'll be at " All Dogs Rule". read more

Updated review- it looks like changes have been made at ADR since the death of our beloved dog, and for that we are grateful. We are hopeful that small and toy breeds are now kept separate from big dogs, that the dogs are checked on overnight, and that the barn is secured. We like seeing so many pictures of happy dogs and we are glad to see that they are being kept safe. We wish the same could have been true for us, but we are glad for the families that have had a different experience than we did. read more

We left our dog Harry with All Dogs Rule to go on a week trip. We had a great experience with their services. The caretakers Anahi and Sergio were professional and kind to Harry, and Russ was responsive to all our questions, as this was the first time boarding our pup. Harry was well taken care of. Our cattle dog mix is ball of energy and loves to play. We boarded him a few times at another business, but we were sad knowing that he would stuck in a kennel with a concrete floor with no real play time. The last time we took him, he refused to walk and was clearly very stressed. All Dogs Rule was a completely different experience. He gets to play with doggy friends, get out some of his energy, or lay in the sun (which he prefers at home). He sleeps in a crate at home, but the staff mentioned he didn't seem happy in their crate so they put a jacket on him and he slept in a dog house. I love that they pay attention to those things and even had a jacket on hand for him. The staff are quick to respond and helpful with recommendations. I absolutely never post reviews, but All Dogs Rule was SO GREAT that I'm compelled to share our experience. Due to a work situation, we had to relocate and leave our beloved Labrador for 7 months, an eternity in dog years. A neighbor recommended All Dogs Rule. I toured their facility, which was clean and filled with happy dogs, and we were comfortable leaving our pooch in their care. Friends, I have to tell you, our dog came home after 7 months, if anything, in better shape than how we left her. Because we were gone so long, we received pictures of her regularly, along with stories about her madcap adventures with her doggie friends. She readjusted to home life easily, we think due to her superior care at All Dogs Rule. I highly recommend this business, and we will definitely be sending her back when we need boarding again. read more

We have boarded our dogs Michael & Monroe at All Dogs Rule Ranch off and on for the past 7 years. They stay several times a year and occasionally they have stayed for months at a time. Karen & Russ are so amazing and they truly love and treat every animal that stays at their ranch like their own. The staff that works there is exceptional and have taken such good care of our dogs. All Dogs Rule is the cleanest and best maintained dog boarding facility you can find. The health and safety of the animals in their care is their main concern. The BEST dog vacation place! Not boarding I tell you. In all of my years of being a dog owner, 30+, I had never put my dog anywhere. But after meeting Russ & Karen I put both my dogs, Daisy & Maui, a 1 year old Lab and 6 year old Lab, at their beautiful Fillmore ranch. How do you know your pet is happy while you are away? Photos. They post photos on their Facebook page. Or, when the dogs come home, smelling great, and clean, they are eating, drinking, running and wagging their tails. That to me says it all! If you want to be worry free when you go away, this is the place for your beloved pet! And they even pick up. read more

I cannot recommend Karen and Russ and their whole staff enough! The "ranch" IMO the best place to board your most precious family member. When our sweet Pele (RIP) was a pup he would return from other boarding establishments so depressed and anxious. Too small, too little stimuli and dog people who weren't really dog people. Once we found ADR he couldn't wait to go "to camp" when we left town. Now we have a new very shy, very scared puppy and we knew exactly where to send him last week when we went out of town. He was returned to us clean, happy, healthy and more confident than ever. It's a whole ranch to play in. Roll around in. And they know what they're doing. Before using their services, my wife drove to All Dogs Rule's outdoor facility & checked out their converted horse barn, which has horse stalls that are used to house the dogs in their care. They assured her that this was safe. The employee from ADR asked her if our dogs were ok to be together at night & she said yes. Never did we insist on this setup. We were fine with them being together, as they were bonded & friendly with each other. Never was any other accommodation, including crates inside or a dogrun elsewhere ever offered to us. The barn was the only accommodation presented for our dogs, despite us telling ADR that they were crate trained. Imagine our shock & horror when we used their services again, then received word that our dog Alexis was found unresponsive on their property & later that she had died from her terrible injuries. ADR insisted that the attacker of Alexis was our other dog. They had absolutely no proof or evidence of this accusation & refused to provide us with audio/video surveillance of our dogs while in their care. We don't know if an animal got into the enclosure & attacked Alexis. Or perhaps she escaped her enclosure (maybe looking for water, as she was dehydrated according to her medical record) & was attacked by another dog or wild animal? We sadly will never know what truly happened because ADR refused us access to video of the barn. The night of the attack, when we asked to see it, they said the cameras don't face the barn stalls where our dogs were. Later, in court they claimed the videos were deleted. By their own report to the emergency vet the dogs were put to bed at around at 9pm on Friday and our lifeless dog wasn't discovered until after 8 the next morning. This was a far cry from the "24/7 care" that we had signed up for and that they advertise on their website. To add insult to injury ADR tried to have us pay for our dogs' boarding & even tacked on an additional fee for taking Alexis to the vet. We asked ADR politely to forgive these charges, which they agreed to. We also asked them to cover the vet fees & they responded that they would not. The only reason she had to go to the vet to begin with is that she wasn't kept safe & she had been left unattended for so long which undoubtedly made her suffering worse. We told them that we felt we had no choice but to pursue legal action. They ignored us. Next we got our attorney to send a demand letter again asking them to cover the vet expenses - again, no response. On the day of the trial, they served us with notice that they were countersuing us for the amount of the boarding they had already forgiven. The court required us to try mediation. Again we were willing to settle for only the vet costs but they again refused. This left us no choice but to go before a judge. The Ventura County Superior Court Judge found that they were liable for the veterinarian costs, the value of the dog, legal fees, and punitive damages. Why would she have ruled in our favor & ordered them to pay these costs if they weren't negligent & if it was OUR fault somehow that our dog was killed? The judge also decided in our favor for their countersuit, awarding them no money for the boarding of the dogs. ADR refused to follow the court order and pay the judgement amount, so we had to have the sheriffs force them to pay the amount by garnishing the funds in their bank account. ADR still maintains to this day, w/o any physical evidence or video proof or witnesses at all, that our other dog, a docile, geriatric English Bulldog, killed Alexis. Who does that? Who would, with 0 physical evidence, so irresponsibly tell someone one of their dogs killed their other dog?? Also, WHY DOES IT MATTER SO MUCH TO THEM to prove that our bulldog was the attacker? Even if she was, that wouldn't change the fact that ADR, according to their website, keeps up to 5 dogs together at night (even though as Russ, the co-owner and self-proclaimed "animal behavior expert", states that dogs can turn on each other and attack their companion for a number of reasons, even with no history of violence) nor does it change the fact that ADR left the dogs unattended and uncared for all night long, without a single check in! Why are they left in groups, outside, & not checked on for almost 12 hours? Why is this acceptable? HOW is this 24/7 care? I do not recommend this business for any reason. I wish Russ & Karen would own up to their responsibility in this matter. The County of Ventura decided in our favor, & that is all a matter of public record. This would not be the case if they had not been negligent in their care of our dogs, which resulted in Alexis' slow & painful death. If this was just a tragic accident or isolated incident, ADR could have & should have acted differently from the start. There is absolutely no excuse for their behavior following her death, particularly defying a court order to pay the judgement that they lost. All Dogs Rule should be ashamed of themselves! read more

We have two large dogs. One is old and nearly blind; the other is 80 pounds of puppy energy, although sometimes reticent and shy. We have been taking Scout and Trouble to ADR for more than three years. Our dogs are always calm and happy when we pick them up, and more importantly are happy to be left there. I was stunned and saddened to read the reviews below by the owners of Alexis who was attacked and died while at ADR. My heart goes out to them. I can only imagine their grief and anger. I don't know the circumstances of that event, nor do I know the facts behind their allegations of misleading information. But it simply does not resonate with our boarding experience at ADR, nor does it fit the profile of the people we have come to know. Our dogs were in Russ and Karen's care before the start of the Thomas Fire. We'd driven from Ojai to Palo Alto for our grandson's birth. While we were there the fire surrounded Ojai and we could not return home. We called ADR to let them know our situation. Then Thomas Fire spread towards Fillmore and we saw that it was headed straight for Grand Avenue where ADR is located. We kept in touch with Karen and Russ as evacuation orders were put in place for their part of Fillmore. By the time the fire crossed the ridge towards ADR, all the dogs -- and some goats -- had been loaded into vans and taken to a house in Moorpark where they were safe. I guarantee you someone was with those dogs day and night because we picked ours up there when it was safe for us to return home. The dogs had been separated by age and temperament, were clean, fed, and playing. I'm sure they were a little confused, but they were happy. Everyone needs to make their own decisions about where to board their dogs. They are our family and we want them treated with care and kindness in our absence. As for me? I still trust that ADR is the best place for our dogs. read more

All Dogs Rule was highly recommended to us by our dog trainer, Luisanna, from Petco. She is so amazing with dogs and truly loves them and looks out for their best interest. When we found out she was leaving Petco to work for All Dogs Rule, I knew we had to check this place out. It's always hard leaving your dogs behind while you are away, so it makes it much easier when you know you are taking them somewhere that you trust to take as good of care of them as you do. This place is seriously dog heaven. The dogs are placed in converted stables, each with a covered indoor area and an outdoor area and the stables are huge- our 50lb lab mix puppy looked so tiny inside of it. They place the dogs with other dogs that they are compatible with during the day so they can play together. At night if your dog is crate trained, they may sleep in a crate or in the barn. We brought our puppy Lola here for the first time last month for a weekend and she seemed so happy and exhausted when we picked her up. All Dogs Rule also really came to our rescue for this up coming weekend. We were in a pinch for this weekend when our friends fell through on watching Lola while we are in Chicago for a wedding. I called All Dogs Rule this morning to see if they could board her tomorrow through Sunday. Even though I called with less than 48 hour notice and needed help coordinating her pick up with a very narrow time constraint, Russ worked with me and put me at ease and was able to accomodate my schedule. I've had 4 dogs board with Karen & Russ over the last 20+ years. I live in Topanga and have many options, but I know my pups are happiest with them. I meet them at a convenient location or take a nice drive up to the ranch, if I have the time. It's great place to visit! My Dogs are always excited to go and look and act great when I pick them up or they are dropped off! I never worry about my precious family pets when I'm away. I know they are safe and having a great time with experienced people! i know Karen and Russ will treat my dogs like their own and they are affordable and give a multi dog discount. This place Rules! Its far from where I live, but it's not a problem at all because they do pick ups, and will arrange to meet you to pick the dog up from you, and drop them off when they're ready to come home. They'll even bathe the dogs before they come home so they'll smell all nice and pretty!! I know my dog is in good hands, and I'm never sure who has a better vacation. She gets to stay in a huge "room" (they are converted horse stables) where she can be inside or out. She's also never alone, because she's either with another dog, and there is always someone checking in on her. One of the times that she stayed, I had to put cream on a skin growth that she had, and they were happy to do it for me!! I highly recommend All Dogs Rule for everydog. And the drive out to the ranch is a beautiful trip in and of itself. I just love to go out there to visit. And Russ is an extraordinary human being. He gives himself selflessly to the ranch and to the dog world, and he's so knowledgeable with tons of experience! We have left our senior dog here 2 times and are very happy. The first time he was there for 3 1/2 weeks and he did great. All the employees and Karen, the owner are fantastic with the dogs. They separate the dogs in regards to size, temperament and age, which fits our calm senior dog. We also used them to pick up and drop off our dog, which is convenient. When we dropped him off there the first time he seemed so happy and when he comes back home he is just the way we left him. He loves the country life! We have been boarding our german shepherd, Casey, for the past 8+ years. It's a wonderful place - no cages. They have converted horse barn stalls, each stall with a gate opening up during the daytime into individual penned outdoor areas. The owners, Russ and Karen, are accomplished dog trainers - when we first adopted Casey 8+ years ago, we took all of Russ' obedience classes from Beginning to Advanced plus. Casey loves Russ. When Russ comes to pick up Casey, she is so happy to see him and gladly goes off with him. Casey loves playing with other dogs, so the best part of her stay, is that Russ and Karen put her in with appropriate dogs and she has a wonderful time! I'm so glad I did my research and chose All Dogs Rule. Although a bit of a drive, they are worth it. My 2 year old dachsie Lincoln has never been without me so when I planned a vacation, I had to find the right place. When I dropped him off, he was scared to death. I called them everyday for the first three days as he was not warming up to the staff...they were wise and gave him space, fed him his special food, and kept me apprised of his situation. Finally Karen had a break thru by giving him just made BBQ chicken and sent me a video of the success! He was better after that - hung out in the grooming room with staff and played a little with their dog which I received pics. I was then able to enjoy my vacation. They were even able to give him a bath on the day I picked him up. Anyone who wants to let their dogs have indoor/outdoor access all day (private or with other friendly dogs), a caring/well-trained staff who's willing to work with "special needs" pups, great communication and just a really safe environment, make the drive. Al Dogs Rule has been a gift to my dogs and me over the last five years. I cannot feel comfortable planning a vacation unless I know my dogs will be well taken care while I am gone. I have boarded a senior who need quiet and had several medication issues; a greyhound who needed space to roam and for this and last summer my Wheaten puppy at All Dogs Rule. Checking in and out is easy and even with our dog who is dog reactive they do am amazing job. Most local boarding kennels have strict rules on what types of dogs can be boarded and frankly make it impossible to board your dog if it is more then 50 pounds, but not at All Dogs Rule.
