Terrible experience tonight. Arrived at 8:40pm, got seated at a table in the bar. Sat for a few minutes, waiter took my order. Asked for water and a beer. Waiter asked if I was ready to order, so I did. After 5 minutes, my chili came...no beer or water. Chili was literally steaming hot...too hot to eat without a drink. Waiter disappeared...no beer or water. Group of 8 seated next to me about 8:55...my waiter takes their orders. I try to get his attention as he walks past me...nope. He a little after 9 he brings all the drinks to the table of 8...nothing for me. I get up and put on my coat...he sees me and says he'll get my drinks...I told him to drink them himself and walked out. If a party of 1 means that little to Alibi, I am happy to go elsewhere. It's been a very long time since I've been to the Alibi. I kind of always hate going to place that has a signature item and NOT ordering it... but all I wanted this night was salad. Kudos for a tasty antipasto salad.... I enjoyed my GINORMOUS salad for lunch and dinner the following day. Note to future Alibi-ers: a small salad will feed an army. The large salad will feed several small countries...and there may have been a third option. Will be back!!!! read more

I've never seen a pizza I didn't like and I've also never eaten a slice of pizza from the Alibi that I didn't love. I've eaten at the Alibi about five times dinning in and taking out. I've sampled the basic cheese and pepperoni pizzas as well as custom pizzas with many toppings, garlic breads and salads. The food is always terrific and my favorite part is the dough which is made with a bit of extra sugar for a unique taste. The Alibi stacks up well against other local pizza places. And even though the pizza is thin crust, the slices are huge and the toppings are bountiful. Best bet: Dine in and have some pizza and beer. Look at the menu and then look around the dining room to see how many knick knacks you can find. The game becomes more challenging the more beer you drink. read more

Good place for family birthday dinner. The antipasto salad is the bomb. Dressing has a hint of sweetness which is addicting. (Dip your pizza in it). The only downside is they won't sit your party until all arrive. This is dumb because If someone is unsure if they can show up then?? Also when many come they order pizza which can include a person running late. Think that needs to change. People will lie and say they have less then ask for a chair when someone shows up. We've been going to the Alibi for probably 40 years. Last night we went there & I ordered the perch, which is usually excellent. When our meals finally arrived the perch looked greasy. I took a bite & it tasted so strong & fishy. The seasoned fries were lukewarm. My diet drink was kind of flat. The waitress took the fish away & asked me if she could bring me something else but my appetite was ruined. She did not charge us for my dinner, but we won't be going back! read more

My favorite restaurant we go every year for my birthday. Love the pizza (ask for fresh mushrooms) and the antipasto salad is the best I've ever had. Love the tortellini Romano too! Never had a bad meal been going for over 20 years! Great pizza! On the thin side. Dough has a sweet flavor to it. Greek salads are good and the bread is great too! If you are in a group, they will not seat you in the dining room until your entire party is ready to be seated. Restaurant is dark/low lighting. There's also a fireplace. 'Finally made it to The Alibi today based on so many wonderful Yelp recommendations and the fact that absolutely nothing sounded good for lunch--except pizza. I ordered a small (four-slice) pizza with onions, mushrooms, green peppers, and ham and balked a little bit at the $10 price tag when I spoke with the man who took my carryout order over the phone (He was very polite, by the way). But then I saw the pizza, a steaming carbohydrate-rich circle which was beautifully (and liberally) decorated with the largest, juiciest parallelogram pieces of ham I've ever seen or tasted on a pizza (see pics--coming soon). The other toppings were exceptional and the pizza was piping hot--fresh out of the oven. Naturally, I ended up eating the pizza in the parking lot, deeming it utterly sinful to wait until my return to the office to eat what would surely have been a lukewarm 'za by that point. And I will say that the first bite was truly something like heaven. I got what the other Yelpers described as a subtle sweetness in the dough. The pizza had a very generous amount of cheese, which I really appreciated, and the vegetables tasted fresh and were properly cooked. Here's my issue, and the reason for my 3.75-star rating: there wasn't enough sauce, which meant that there simply wasn't enough flavor. I know that some people prefer pies with minimal sauce; I am not one of those people. Also, I found the crust to be a tad on the undercooked side. I generally like a semi gooey interior, but that's good only when the exterior manages to also be crunchy (and, full disclosure here, I've found myself appreciating thinner crust, wood-oven pizzas lately--that's my issue and doesn't have to do with any failings on The Alibi's part). I think the oven probably should have been a tad hotter when they made the particular pizza I ate though. On the whole, I was very pleased with my meal and should also say that, though famished when I ordered it, I failed to finish the thing and still have enough to share with someone else. You could easily split a small among two reasonably hungry (but not starving) individuals (it's a 12" pizza), which makes the $10 price tag seem more like a bargain than a beating. So as not to deter anyone from going to this restaurant, I want to say that I would definitely go back. Next time I go, I'd like to dine in. If you're dreaming of a creative, modern, wood-oven-baked pizza with goat cheese and arugula, you should probably look elsewhere. The Alibi is, however, a very good place to go when you want a solid, traditional pizza at a very reasonable price. read more

Eh. It's not bad. Maybe it's not bad because it's so freaking dark that you can hardly see anything, so you just think it all must be okay. The service was a bit slow and non-responsive. OMG I live at least 45 min from this restaurant and it is worth the drive. The breadsticks are amazing. They have a mix of buttery and salty taste to them while they are served fresh out the oven everytime I visit. I haven't tried any other items but the pizza and salad. The pizza comes with fresh and quality ingredients and the dough has a touch of sweetness to it. The salad dressing-The only thing I can say is I wish they would bottle this stuff so i can take it home. Try a salad with the house dressing and i can tell you that you can't go wrong with it. Overrated pizza but still GOOD. Tasted. like the pizza sauce had a sweet taste. People if you want great pizza there's a couple places and Alibis is not one of them. If you've ever had Comos or Buddys Pizza you know what I mean. First time here and service is appalling. Food was average at best. Defensive staff. I ask to sample a red beer, the server gets me a beer that is clearly not the beer I ordered. She maintain it is exactly what I ordered. When the full pint comes, surely enough it's not the red. I apologetically request (even though I didn't need to at this point) for a replacement and the server huffs and puffs, gets defense. Completely unnecessary. The pizza and sandwiches were average at best. Not sure why this place has good reviews. Not coming here ever again. read more

Alibi is always a great experience. I had the salmon and the boyfriend got a pizza. Salmon was cooked beautifully and my boyfriends small 4-slice pizza was a great portion! We also had probably one of the best waitresses I've ever had ANYWHERE. Vicki was such a sweetheart and made our meal an excellent experience. read more

I'm not that impressed with Alibi. I've heard many good things but after eating here three times now I can safely I'm in no rush to come back. The ribs are average and the sauce they use has to be Open Pit (which you can buy bottled at any grocery store). Tonight I got my ribs and when they came out they were completely cold yet were charred which leads me to believe they cook them ahead of time and just reheat them. I'm not impressed with their pizza and the breadsticks that I've heard so much about are nothing to write home about. I will say the antipasto salad was pretty good. All in all if you're on the fringe on whether or not to eat here, I'd say pass Alibi and take your chances with a different restaurant. read more

I haven't been here in a few years but remember the pizza being amazing. I ordered 30 minutes in advance and when I arrived they at first had no record of my order and then asked if I wanted to wait for one to be made and I declined. They then offered me someone else's pizza but I said thanks but no thanks. The kitchen was just a hang out for the teen cooks who thought it was amusing I was in this situation. I ended up driving out of my was to Green Lantern on 12 mile for dinner because at least they can provide me MY pizza and not laugh at me for their mistake. read more

I agree with all the complaints about the hostesses. It's a nice place with good food but the hostess last night acted like I was invisible when I came up to her with a simple question. Then when she did acknowledge me, she seemed as if I was bothering her. Train your girls to smile every once in a while, and to not be so miserable to be there. I miss Alibi so much. We moved down south 6 yrs ago and try to get our Alibi fix of pizza and Antipasto salad every trip back to MI. We've been so spoiled over the years with their pizza that we cant find another place that comes even close in flavor and we've lived in SC, GA and now FL...As I type this I am craving the dressing from the antipasto salad so bad that I can taste that sweet tangy dressing and those little pepperoni cups of goodness...Thanks for all the great food we've gotten over the years and we cant wait to visit again next trip back to MI... read more

The Alibi is a Troy staple. It claims to have been around since 1927, but considering the number of times it's changed names, menus, and owners, it's really only been around since the '80s, at least in it's current incarnation. The Alibi serves classic American food like spaghetti, fish and chips, ribs, roast prime rib, and roast turkey, but they're really known for the pizza. With a chewy but sturdy crust, melted but solid cheese, and thin and crispy pepperoni (and you'd better get it with pepperoni), this pizza is unlikely to disappoint. You're not going to find any unique eats here, but the food is good, and they do have a kids' menu as well as a gluten-free menu. Unfortunately, they do not take reservations and they do not seat parties until everyone is present, and even then they're not likely to sit you all at the same table if you have more than six people. read more

I'm torn on this review because I love the pizza! The crust is soft and has a bit of a sweet taste to it which is great. Unfortunately, the service the past couple of times we have been in has been sub par. The last time we were there it took 20-25 minutes just to have a waitress come over and take our drink orders. The food was good but we had so so service. He seemed more interested in entertaining our baby. He acknowledged us shortly after we sat down but then came to the table wanting us to order our meal & drinks all at once like he didn't have tome to come back. He didn't come by to get us additional drinks or check on us. Horrible service and horrible food. They completely messed up my order and the waitress came over to apologize that the general manager didn't come himself (he was there but sent her). Went there on a Saturday about 6:30 and had to wait about 30 min. which is not at all bad for this area. We were able to stand in the bar area and have a few drinks. The wait staff was efficient and nice. I ordered a spicy shrimp, chicken and pasta dish. The menu made it seem that the dish was shrimp, chicken, and a little pasta in a spicy sauce. It was the other way around, a lot of pasta with very little chicken and shrimp. Our meal was good but not great. I probably would go again. read more
