This was a last minute visit, and a friend brought us here since it's one of their regular spots. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, which made for a welcoming experience. The interior has a casual sports bar feel, with lots of taxidermy and an outdoorsy vibe. I have a bit of mixed reviews on the food. I ordered the barbecue back ribs, but they tasted more like baked ribs than traditional barbecue, which was a little disappointing. The fries were really good and I really liked the variety of options, from waffle fries to sweet potato fries and even mashed potatoes. I was told that the walleye dinner and the chicken sandwich was really good, so it's possible I just didn't order one of their popular dishes. The prices are very reasonable, and since everyone else at the table enjoyed their meals, I would be open to coming back and trying something different. read more

We went here for Thanksgiving with family and it was the absolute worst Thanksgiving of my life. The turkey was gristly (how is that even possible?!??), the mash potatoes and stuffing were cold and the serving sizes were smaller than what you'd give to your kids if eating at home. On top of it, the service was mediocre at best. They were so rushed, that they didn't even hand out the silverware or put it in napkins, they literally dumped it on one end of the table (yes, directly on the table, not on the napkins) and left us to pass it down to everyone in the party...and of course with a large party, they baked in a 20% tip. This wasn't the end either. The meal came with a choice of pie at the end, but we were told "all we have is pumpkin". So much for that apple pie I was looking forward to. There weren't even any apologies for the lack of options that were advertised and we weren't told they were out until the end. Just an all around awful experience on what is supposed to be a festive holiday. If you're not going to do Thanksgiving correctly, then please don't even open for Thanksgiving. This was terrible. I'll definitely never come back. I rarely write poor reviews, but I literally have nothing positive to say about this experience. I've had far better food and service at a number of restaurants that are far less expensive. They would have to pay me to come back. Save your time and money. Go elsewhere. There are a ton of other great restaurants and places that do Thanksgiving really well. This isn't one. read more

Updating since it's been a few years since I came here and I dined in this time. It was fairly busy inside but service was quick and friendly. The inside is like stepping into a restaurant from the 90s, it has a nostalgic vibe. I had to get the spinach artichoke dip again and it was still great and very garlicky. My club sandwich was good too. The waffle fries were a pretty small serving size for the almost $4 upgrade and were kind of bland. Rest of the food was good though. We are members at the nearby Edsel Ford House and were going to see the holiday lights and wanted some place casual to eat before hand, since we were bundled up like snowmen and were dressed in our warmest (aka comfortable) clothes. A quick Yelp search turned up this place. I looked at the menu and saw it was huge and knew that everyone in my party could find something to eat. We went at dinner time on a Friday night and it was hopping. The main parking lot is small but they have an over flow lot, just FYI. They said a 30 minute wait but I don't think it was that long. They have a cute little area outside with fire pits. We went outside for part of our wait and then decided we will be outside enough at the Ford House and went inside for the rest of our wait. It's kind of crowded in the waiting area with just one bench to sit on. It's loud inside, be prepared for that and if it bothers you, don't go at one of their busy times. I thought the atmosphere was fun and it didn't bother me. The wait staff was super friendly. At my table there was an order of steak fajitas, and yes they smelled delicious on the sizzling platter they were served on. Also has was a Reuben and fries. My husband and I split the nachos. No joke, these things were HUGE. Embarrassingly huge....haha. we opted for chicken and it really didn't have any taste, I would suggest getting beef. The nachos themselves were good and very cheesy. Lots of salsa and sour cream on the side. We took home a small pizza box worth of leftovers. Again, they were HUGE! I'm happy to have found a casual and friendly place to eat near the Ford House and we will definitely go back and try out more of their huge menu! read more

The service here has become incredibly unreliable and I do not think I will be going back. We ordered three burgers and every single one was incorrect. We asked for regular buns but got pretzel buns. I asked for no bell peppers and I swear they put extra on my burger. They also forgot the 4 ranches entirely and gave me a literal four onion rings as a side. The only thing they managed to do correctly was cook the meat through. I'm incredibly disappointed with this place especially considering 3 burgers was nearly $50 read more

We went here to grab a quick bite to eat and were impressed. I love how many GF options they have and that they carry GF bread and buns so you can get pretty much any sandwich and burger gluten free along with GF pizza and stir fry amongst other things. I got the turkey Asiago sandwich and it was delicious. My daughter got the pizza and loved it and my son got the tenders and it was huge and delicious, husband got a special walleye sandwich and said it was the best. Our server was prompt and friendly, I let her know it was my son's birthday and she brought out a hot cookie and ice cream for him and my daughter so they wouldn't fight. The atmosphere is very cool lodge look restaurant with a neat train overhead that my son loved to watch and the bar side was a nice size with high tops and looked like lots of fun. My goddaughter had just had her first dance recital and our crew that came to cheer her on wanted to treat her to a celebratory ice cream. I'm not super familiar with the east side but my friends said Gilbert's was the perfect place for a group, including three kids. Why? Their menu is huge, the tables are huge, and it's a casual enough place that a group could possibly get a little rowdy without getting side eyes from others. So to Gilbert's we went! We ended up sitting in the front covered porch/patio. Goddaughter and her twin brother went directly to the bumpy cake sundae on the menu. The rest of the table ordered more savory items like some sharable apps and then full meals. My mom and I had dinner started back at her house so we passed on the full meal but we definitely indulged in more than a few bites of their soft pretzels and loaded waffle fries. Both were quite good (tho with all the cheese, bacon, etc on the loaded fries it was not exactly good FOR you tho, haha). We enjoyed both so much we kept on snacking and before we knew it we were full. So much for the dinner we had planned! The kids loved their sundaes, which were almost as big as their heads, and overall we had a really lovely time. From the moment you walk in, you feel like you've stepped inside a cozy, log cabin up north! I have not been here since covid happened, and the pizza is still fresh and amazing- not to mention their prices have remained very reasonable considering global supply chain inflation! I ordered a large (deep dish) Gilbert's supreme, which was loaded with toppings and they were even willing to substitute a couple things for me. The service was fast and friendly, even for being very busy during the Monday night 1/2 off pizza special (all day; dine-in only)! Plenty of leftovers over for the week for $10! Man it's been too long since I've been here but glad I was able to today! This place was like walking into a dream bar/restaurant! Everyone that I encountered showed a positive side to them. The food was super delicious and still cannot believe how the Patty Melt changed my views on every other patty melt that I've ever consumed! I wasn't even hungry and figured I'd eat half and take half home. Nope! I think I could have put down a 3 lbs version of that since it was so damn good! I've only had 1 place that set my scale for the best I've ever had before Gilbert's did today, and that was Bennigans! Had a memorial luncheon here for my cousin who passed during covid, on Wednesday at 1 pm. Driving up, there wasn't a place a park in the attached lot, so we had to park across the side street in another parking area. Our memorial luncheon was in a private room off to the right behind the hostess stand. My first thought was outdated but fine. The room was right off the kitchen, with no doors, so all we heard was banging, clanging, and the music they pumped in the kitchen. This became a REAL nuisance when we were having our ceremony. TAPS was being played and folding of an American Flag, all while we heard all that ruckus coming from the kitchen. It really made me angry. They knew what we were here for. A waitress even came in while this was happening and tried to deliver a drink. I gave her a death stare, and she proceeded to lean against the wall until were finished. After the ceremony, we were served family-style, salad and breadsticks. Their ranch was pretty good, as well as their breadsticks, both yummy. Then we had the option of chicken Marsella or parmesan cod. Hubby and I got one of each so we could try both. The cod, it was good, the chick, eh, fine. The vegetables they gave us were so overcooked, and possibly from frozen. We brought our own cake, but they served us vanilla ice cream with the cake. The ice cream was pre-scooped into metal dishes and put back into the freezer, but it wasn't earlier that day. The ice cream showed signs of being really old, when it gets gummy on the sides around the dish, and tasted like the freezer. It was gross. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR A MEMORIAL LUNCHEON! They showed no respect for our grieving, and the food was subpar. read more

How have I never been to Gilbert's? I have been working in the area for 7 years.... So Monday is half off pizza night and the place is a mad house! The ambiance is a cabin up north. Patio area, dining room, it's big open, Lodgey and loud! It's really great- rustic. Got the "black and blue" burger and it was awesome! I love a burger were it's messy! Now it didn't fall apart but Gilbert's has it right with all the toppings (lettuce, tomato, onions, pickle) and they were ample it was like a side salad of toppings! Ordered a three alarm Turkey on burger, onion rings and the Huntsman. Was informed after my order was in a few minutes later that they ran out of turkey burger. Ordered the 3 alarm with the impossible burger instead. $29.67. The three alarm burger with the impossible patty was good. The brioche bun was soft and billowy. The burger as a whole was a good combination. Fresh jalapeños would have made it even better. The onion rings breading was crusty and at times too hard. It wasn't my jam. What I love about this local restaurant is they are perfect for everyone: Gilbert's offers a large bar area with Keno and arcade games, a kids menu, and lots of tables and seating for large groups. I highly recommend the saganaki or Wisconsin cheese fries as an appetizer to split with your group. The cheese fries are essentially waffle fry nachos, with toppings and sour cream. Huge potion for everyone to happily share! My Auntie swears by the hoagie. My mom loves the fish and chips. Boyfriend was thrilled with his Reuben. I love the sweet and sour chicken sauté, with brown rice and sautéed veggies. Portions are great and you can easily walk out with food for later. Service is hit or miss but given that it's a pandemic, I know how hard everyone is working. Refills were always taken care of and we did get checked on often during our recent visit. I would personally never go back here again. The restaurant echos alot and reminds me of eating in a cafeteria in high school due to the intense echo of other people. I got the coconut shrimp. The shrimp was too sweet and the rice was absolutely disgusting and tasted like nail polish remover. The broccoli was cold as soon as it came out, I told the server and she got me a new side about 10 mins later. It was so hot that I could tell the cooks were being passive aggressive. Me and my fiancé hosted a family meet and greet in the private room. This is a very busy restaurant trying to get info over the phone was difficult, so I recommend that you go in person to make your arrangements. The banquet menu offers a lot to choose from at a reasonable cost. We we're able to decorate a couple of the tables and the rest were already arranged with place settings for our party of 30 guest when me and fiancé arrived. From the menu we choose , family style service of the mostaccioli and chicken marsala with mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes and chocolate chip cookies for dessert. Because we had a couple Vegans attending Flip assisted with assigning the kitchen to fix them vegetable platters without dairy products. There were mixed reviews from the guest about the food but mostly positive. I personally don't suggest the mixed vegetables, they were mushy, overcooked. Everything else was tasty. The chocolate chip cookies were delicious. Drew our banquet waitress was very accommodating and patient. She even complimented me for hosting such a really nice event. Been going every year for Thanksgiving after the Lions game. Checked the website and nothing said about "reservations ", which we have never had to have. Walked in, 70% of the tables empty, yet told we cannot sit down. On top of that, after telling the hostess we had been coming for years, the person that looked to be the manager told us they can't take us and was not friendly about it. Highly disappointed in the restaurant that we have spent so many Thanksgivings together as a family.
