It was my first time coming here kind of by accident. Went in right as they opened and there was a decent happy hour menu from 4-6. The beer selection was pretty good a ton of options on tap that I don't usually see. Mixed drinks were good as well , especially liked the whiskey sour. The other one I tried was a blended mango margarita and it was just perfect not overly sweet. Also tried calamari and it was tasty but found the portion to be slightly small for the price. Service was super friendly and orders came out really fast.
Went here twice in the month of November for two different birthday celebrations and only had beers. The first time I went was on a Saturday evening without reservations and for a party of 12! I was sure that we were not going to get in, but to my surprise they had a table available on their bottom floor! Their bottom floor has a bar where you can order drinks and food. I did not order any food because we just went there to grab some beers, they have an extensive craft beer selection as well as cocktails. I would recommend this place for a laid-back evening with your friends to grab beers and casual meal. The second time I went there, I sat upstairs which was also pretty nice! They have dim lighting making it feel pretty intimate. I didn't get up getting any food that time either, but I'm sure of going back there again and order their meals. Overall, both the times I went the service was fast and friendly.
Really friendly service, casual dining that's great for happy hour, and great beer selection, Came here on a Friday night and it wasn't hard to get a table. Spicy mango margarita was potent and yummy, and the poutine was delightful! Best poutine I have had in CA so far. Also, the wings were very yummy - could have used a thicker sauce (but that's coming from a TX girl) but had such a great vineagar-esque zing to it. Would come here again!
If you're looking for cool vibes, delicious food and amazing beer selection - go here! I had the pretzel bites and damn they were great. everytime i come there's a new selection of beers --so good, it's hard to choose. Now for the ambiance, it's one of the coolest vibes in town! It's railtown meets gastown, feels like you're in a movie or something. Great service too!
We had a classic alibi burger which was pretty good. The burger looks small but it is pretty filling. The rigatoni rose blush was excellent; highly recommend. We also had the crème brûlée which was OK. The place is trendy and plays music on the background. Street parking seems decent. The service was very attentive and professional.
Big fan of this place, mostly for the great craft beers. The food is pretty good also - I honestly wouldn't recommend coming here just for the food if you don't plan on drinking simply because there are plenty of restaurants around that have more interesting menus, but I also wouldn't recommend skipping the food if you want to come here. The food menu here is relatively small, but they have some good choices. I've tried the veggie burger and stir fry. The housemade veggie patty was quite good and all the toppings went well with it. The stir fry was also tasty, but too oily for my taste and a little heavy on the noodles. Some people seem to be crazy about the fries, but they're just basic shoestring fries to me. I also had a dessert platter some time ago that I don't remember much about other than everything on it was delicious. The beer though! Before COVID they had a ridiculously massive tap beer list and it seems to have shrunk a little, but it's still a lot and I find it helpful that they organize it by type of beer. Every beer I've tried here has been the among the best I've had. There's a little bit of something for everyone and if you're not sure what to get the staff seems happy to make recommendations. Flights are popular, but if you don't want a whole flight they let you order individual drinks in "mini" 5 oz portions, which is good for me because I don't like to drink a ton but still want to sample different things. The vibe and service are both great. The restaurant has an open, sort of industrial interior, with an upstairs at street level and more seating and another bar in the basement (the basement is surprisingly comfortable). As of my visit yesterday (September 2021) they still have safety dividers up between tables which made me much more comfortable with the seating arrangements. The staff has been very professional every time. Last night, our waitress was generally pretty attentive but somehow difficult to flag down only when we really needed something, but otherwise she was good and I've only had positive experiences with the staff in the past.
Came here for post dinner drinks. The interior was spacious with a warm, cozy vibe. Service can be a bit slow but the food and drinks were on point. We got the beer tasting flight, which was an interesting concept with four different beers in small glasses. I only ended up liking 2/4 of mine but you can definitely ask the server to customize the drinks to your preference. The highlight was actually the dessert! They only have one dessert on their menu but make it sooo delicious. The lava cake was incredibly smooth and decadent, and paired along so well with the bourbon ice cream (I wish I can buy this in pints, so good). Would definitely come back again for this dish!
Reminiscent of a beer hall with the long benches in the main dining area. There's also a downstairs area accessed via a spiral staircase where you'll find more cushioned, intimate seating, a stage, and another bar. Not sure if they serve the entire tap list down there though. A little disappointed that they did not have poutine on their food menu, but their tap list was quite extensive. It might have made up for the lack of a decent small bites selection except for the fact that nearly everything I asked for on the sours menu was 'out' or came with an annoying disclaimer next to the beer of 'UP NEXT'. Some tell you when they'll be released (most on Friday), but others do not, so what's the point of even listing it? Anyways, I did like their flight deal of any 4 beers in 4oz tasters for $12 (plus tax). They also have a rating system for each beer with special illustrations for its sourness, darkness and hoppiness. I wasn't so impressed with 3 of my beers, but the generically named 'flanders red imperial souuuur' from Storm Brewing was decent. It claimed to be the strongest, darkest, most sour beer on the menu and it lived up to it. A mix of jammy and dry black currant with notes of licorice and caramel created quite the sour bomb. I was seeing stars which deserves some applause. It should be noted that they had a vast selection of hoppy beer. Stouts and ciders barely make it onto the menu though. I get the sense that this is the gathering space for plenty of rare beer releases. Proud to see that they were set to showcase a Modern Times beer in the near future even if that beer was only 'Blazing World'. Solid, late night spot to chill at and if you're lucky, you might be rewarded with some rare finds.
Such a great room, but be ready to sit with others (reminds me of the roundhouse at the top of Whistler..back in the day). Classy...but not too classy. ;). The staff set the tone. Service is soooooooo welcoming its almost unvancouver-like . Cocktails are excellent. Kitchens staff are "former" Ask For Luigi.
This place is amazing! So sad we found it or last night in BC. The menu had to many great options on it. Food was delicious, atmosphere was comfortable and somewhere intimate even with shared bench tables. The staff are very friendly and attentative. Low lights, lots of candles. Good selection of beers, sours and saisons. Can't wait to visit again. read more
Came here for some drinks. Parking is plentiful here at night, mainly because nothing else is open in this area. It's quite a few blocks E of the busy Gastown area. This is the industrial area nobody really knows about. The inside was really dark. Not sure what's up with places like these, because it was almost *too* dark. The beer selection is quite decent, with mostly local brews from around BC. It's actually pretty impressive, as most *local* bars only serve from a handful of breweries. This place probably had beers from 20 different places. Most beers were some $6 for a 16oz glass, which is average. Some people may like the communal seating, but what I find is that the party sharing a table simply creates a physical gap. In other words, it's unlikely you'd be chatting with the strangers beside you. On the other hand, this would make hosting large groups nice and easy. The service was a bit sparse, as we had to wave frantically for a few minutes to get the waitress' attention. Trying to call her didn't work, as the place was pretty loud. There is also a downstairs area (more seating I'd assume) but I didn't check it out. You do have to make a trip out to end up here, but it's a pretty decent place to grab a drink, if you don't mind the communal tables and darkness. read more

We came to this place after getting high recommendation from a local at a café. The ambiance is good, vibrant, and you'll see trains passing by right outside the window. They have an amazing selection of beer on tap and it's always changing. We each had a flight of the beer. For food, we had the mussels with garlic bread, and blue cheese salad. Both were pretty good. This place is really popular. The waiting time on a Friday night is about 45 minutes for walk-ins. Make reservation in advance to save time. read more
I've been to this place several times in more than a decade, and it still lives up to its stellar reputation. In fact, I think it's improved. I love the atmosphere and decor of the place, the service is good, the beer selection is vast & local and the food selection is great. This time I was here for brunch. We had mimosas, French toast, an egg breakfast sandwich and chorizo over potatoes. We were were all very satisfied with the food and drinks. The service was friendly and timely. In the past, I've come by for appies, meals or just drinks. It's a great atmosphere (modern industrial) and suits any time of day. read more

Neat atmosphere, good pub food. Service was good and the food came fast. Sketchy neighbourhood, but there was security. The veggie stir fry was heavy on the noodles, not much tofu, veggies were fresh and crisp, the flavour was good. Veggie burger was made on site, different (in a good way) with a bit of a spicy kick. The fries were cooked to crispy perfection. read more

My first time to visit Alibi Room in Gastown. The pub is quite big that a lot of people can sit, drink and chat after work (like happy hours) or enjoy the time off on the weekend. The pub has a lot of variety of beer and wine. I didn't know what to drink and try. My boyfriend and I ordered a frat bat - ninkasi haze, brsnk 1trickpo, ninkasi pump and SF jongleur. Some of them were bitter, but they tasted good. The service was alright. We went in the afternoon around 3pm. There was no food (from the kitchen) until 5pm as per the server. The pub opens between 5:30pm and 11pm every day except Saturday and Sunday that they also open between 10am and 3pm. Most of the people who rated here like this pub as well as one of our German friends who also said this pub was really good. People who love to drink beer should try the beer here. read more
I've been wanting to visit this place for a long time and finally had the chance. They are super popular so getting a spot during the week is easier obviously. Even though they don't take reservations for less than 48 hours, we learned that they open up 3 spots per day for reservations so check the website still if you're looking to reserve at last minute. A person like me, who is not a beer fan, I was pleasantly surprised by their beers. You definitely have to go with a flight for the first time here (and maybe for your other times too). They have quite a large selection and very different varieties. My two favorites from my flight were the Blazing World Hoppy Dark Amber Ale and Out Of The World Pineapple Milkshake IPA. I just loved how balanced was Pineapple Milkshake IPA. I also tasted my friend's Fanny Pack. It was a light, moderately hoppy and slightly citrusy. Definitely getting that next time, it was fantastic. For food, we had the Mezze Plate and Meatballs in Tomato Sauce with Garlic Bread from Fresh Selections. Both tasty but not mind blowing. Portions were good for the price. Service was a little slow but not a deal breaker. Overall one of the nicest spots for beer and appies in town! read more

I love the alibi room. The only reason it loses a star is because it only has one item on the dessert menu. It's a very chocolate-item, and it's delicious (because I love chocolate) but not everyone in my party does. The beer list is incredible. If you're here for the beers, the only other places that are somewhat comparable are: St Augustine's, The Magnet, and 33 Experiment. Big beer list full of sours, stouts, porters, lagers, lambics, you name it. read more

We came here while visiting for the weekend and were very impressed with the beer selection! Didn't get any food but everything we saw come out of the kitchen looked great! The staff was friendly and helpful, the place was cute and very clean, good atmosphere and not too crowded, plenty of seating. The next time we're back in Vancouver we'll be coming back for round 2! read more

My coworker and I popped into Alibi Room before Monday's Canucks game. We got there around five, just after they opened, and I'm glad we did because it definitely fills up fast. We chose a spot at the bar for convenience (we were sure if we were going to get just drinks or drinks and dinner). The place has a dim, hipstery ambiance and sits right on the train tracks. It was a chilly night and there was a strong draft from the front door that made me want to keep my coat on. Brr! Their beer selection is top notch, and we let our bartender choose a flight for us. I let him know that I like sours, light and fruity beers, dark, rich stouts and porters, and no IPAs. His selection was on point, including a sour, a horchata porter, and even an IPA that he snuck in there (it was my least favorite of the bunch, but I'm always trying to expand my horizons). I'm still thinking about that horchata porter! Our bartender was seriously the best, helping us with both beers and directions to the arena. He made the experience! We also ordered some bites: she got chicken wings (both flavorful and plentiful) and I got the crispy pork belly sandwich. It wasn't bad but wasn't my favorite...something about it didn't seem to come together, but the pork belly itself was tasty. I would definitely come back for the beer selection alone! read more

This bar is cute! It is really loud though, so if you are looking for a place to hold a conversation without yelling this isn't the place for you. Also, it was 80 degrees outside and no one in Vancouver believes in A/C or ice in their drinks...so that can get fun when it's a bit stuffy in the restaurant. The food though is really good. And the beer is terrific, with an awesomely huge selection. We had the all beef burger with "the works" which is cheddar, mushrooms, and bacon. The center of the patty was dry, but otherwise it was flavorful and well seasoned. The bacon, cheddar and mushroom add moisture and flavor, my daughter had just the hamburger and it was very dry. We also had the pork philly cheese, which was good but not something I would specifically want again. The coleslaw, cheese and peppers overwhelm the meat, the meat wasn't really the star of the dish. It tastes lighter than I think they intended. My son really enjoyed the jalapeño chicken sandwich. It wasn't too spicy, the chicken was moist, the onion mayo was a good compliment. Overall we enjoyed ourselves, if we came back when it was cooler we would totally come back. read more
Great place to get your craft beer on. They have a respectable number on tap...go for their flight (you won't regret it!) The food's plenty good too. I got the pork belly sandwich; they were generous with the pork belly and my meal came with a huge pile of fries (you can never have enough fries!) Their veggie burger looked damn good too, totes ordering that next time! I came here in the dead of winter and it was SCORCHING hot in there...so much so that it dried out my skin and left me parched for water. But other than that...loveeee this place! Alibi is popular with the locals so be sure to make a reservation to avoid long waits on the weekend! read more

Ahhh the almighty Alibi Room. Inventive food, huge beer list, friendly staff, trendy vibe, and a line out the door at all times. It's the stuff of which Vancouver legends are made. read more
In one word, the beer selection at Alibi Room can be described as "sick". Honestly, 22 taps and 3 casks providing some the best Pacific Northwest brews? This bar definitely has the best beer selection in Vancouver -- no contest. Over a single night, our lush hero managed to try the following beers at Alibi Room: - Storm Brewing Insane 12 year aged lambic - Crannog Brewing Organic Potato Ale - Brooklyn Brewery 1 yr aged Black Chocolate Stout - Lighthouse Brewing Co Dry Irish Stout - Deschutes Brewing Black Porter Stout - Phillips Brewing Longboat Chocolate Porter - Swann Buckerfields Coconut Porter - Iain (of Yaletown Brew Pub) Indian Brown Ale - Cannery Brewing Naramata Nut Brown - Storm Brewing Scottish Ale - Taylor's Crossing Brew Pub ESB - Rogue Brewing Brutal Bitter - R&B ESB - Granville Island Pumpkin Ale - Orchard Hill Red Roof Cider That's 3/5 of the all the beers they had available on tap right there! Now before you think our hero needs to attend Alcoholics Anonymous, there is a perfectly good explanation for why he managed to drink this many beers outside of a beer festival. Two more words: "frat bat". The legendary "frat bat" is a 4 beer flight of 4 oz. cups that allows patrons to sample most of the beers available on tap (with the exception of 3 out of 25 beers when our hero visited that were more premium than the rest). At only $9 a bat, this is quite reasonable and more entertaining than most beer gardens and festivals our hero has attended in the past. Beers on the roster generally range from $5.75 for a pint of most brews up to $7.50 for the high end hops. The main floor is reminiscent of a German beer hall with its long wooden tables. While waiting for a proper table, our hero spent some quality time with his friends chilling at the bar (which is literally a BAR of wood next to the real bar that two frat bats can fit on side by side with some stools along side it. The downstairs room is a lot more casual -- people mill about and converse loudly in the basement in an open environment -- and the hipster DJ has a booth set up in the corner as well. While enjoying his beer, our hero had the opportunity to chat with the owner of Dead Frog Brewery and some other random bar-goers who were equally passionate about good brews. Many others will ask what you are sampling and give you their own suggestions of their favorite taps to taste without your solicitation. Make no mistake, this is definitely THE place Vancouver beer lovers go to congregate and imbibe the best suds the Pacific Northwest has to offer. PROS: - Cool, unpretentious crowd. - Awesome selection of local Vancouver craft beers. - "Frat bats" allow beer lovers to sample an assortment of 4 different beers on tap. CONS: - Waits can be up to an hour long for a table on busy weekends. - Service is a bit slow because the place is so packed during peak hours. read more

The Alibi Room has been on my personal list of places to try for quite some time. A few days ago I was in the area so I decided to give it a try! When I arrived at 5PM on the dot and it was completely empty inside I was slightly nervous. I was confused as to why there wasn't a single soul inside on a nice Summer afternoon, but then I realized 5PM is what time they open. Within 10 minutes of then being open it started to fill up and by the time my food came out it was completely packed! The restaurant itself is in a Heritage building which is over 100 years old, it's also right next to some train tracks which can make for a very unique dining experience, don't let that stuff fool you though, this place is modern and amazing. The food itself is all locally sourced, ocean friendly and naturally raised. My waitress was a real star she was so helpful and knowledgeable about the food and the vast selection of beers on tap. For my appetizer I ordered the Edamame Beans which were seasoned with toasted sesame salt, they were absolutely delicious! For my main course I ordered the Broccoli & Mushroom Stir Fry which came with Spinach, Organic Tofu, Rice Noodles in a Ginger-Soy Sauce. The Stir Fry was without a doubt one of the best I've ever had! In conclusion this place surpassed all of my expectations. The atmosphere, service, food and all around vibe of the place was top notch! I will definitely be back! read more
Ah Alibi Room, my old brunch friend. How I have forsaken you so, and for that I apologize. Alibi used to be one of my regular brunch stops, but for some reason I stopped going, maybe it was because of my quest to find new and exciting brunch locales, or maybe it was when they removed their breakfast burrito from the menu, either way I will be sure to put it back into my regular weekend rotation. In the absence of the breakfast burrito I switched things up and went with their take on Huevos Rancheros and was not disappointed. I was presented with two perfectly poached eggs a top of mound of chili, beans, and guacamole all topped on fresh tortillas. My girlfriend had the brunch special which consisted of two poached eggs served on a bacon wrapped potato gratin with sauteed spinach and tomatoes, which for $12 was once of the best brunches she's ever had. The service was fast and friendly, the music was good and non-top 40 as usual, and the non-pretentious $3 americanos were no where to be seen as excellent drip-coffee was free flowing. read more
Tucked away from the busier centre of Gastown nightlife is this gem of a restaurant pub that hosts a party of its own. With its wide selection of beer on tap, there are so many flavours to enjoy alone or with a hearty "samwich". Otherwise, pairing your drink with a bunch of sides is another great way to spend time with friends. On the weekends, they serve brunch into the afternoon, and their selection for omelets is delicious. So far to eat, I've had their veggie burger, bison cheese steak samwich, and chorizo, havarti, & bell peppers omelet. All were fair portions, with the bison cheese steak being plenty flavourful, the fries crisped perfectly and delectable doused in garlic vinegar, and the omelet hearty comfort food on a weekend morning. The only downside with the food here is their homemade veggie burgers. The consistency of the patty is infirm, with the patty breaking apart and spilling out of the bun easily, and the flavour of the veggie patty lacking, overall not a very savoury dish at all. Otherwise, I've enjoyed several of their selection of IPA, Hefeweizen, ciders, and amber pales. I love how the servers here are very amicable and provide good descriptions and recommendations of their beer. The only other downside is the slow service, which is understandable given how busy the place gets! In any case, the server friendliness, knowledge, and the atmosphere definitely smooth out this wrinkle. read more
What can you say about Alibi that hasn't already been said? Incredible beer selection? Check. Fantastic food? Check. Long waits during busy hours? Check. Friendly service? Check! To add another 2 cents to the 600 already here I'll tell you: I love Alibi! I don't make it here very often due to the lines, and the location (I just really hate taking the #20) but when I do I always have a blast. Their brunch is delicious, and last time I was here I was lucky enough to grab their salmon special, which was truly a gourmet feast! Tiffany N, my dining partner grabbed a few appies, and I can certainly vouch for how tasty the cheese plate was! Our server was bright, chipper, and helpful - suggesting tons of different beers that I might like (I did), and checking on us regularly to ensure we were doing ok. Alibi is a rare and interesting beast, and I highly recommend giving it a try! read more
I went here to catch up with a friend who is a beer lover and wow, we both love this place. Their selection is top-notch and the server is very knowledgeable of their beers. We ordered their flights (4x 5 oz. for $13). The beers were all delicious and we ended up staying there for more than 4 hours. Will definitely come back again. read more

Ambiance: 4/5 Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Overall: 4.5/5 I've been looking forward to coming here after seeing all the awesome reviews on yelp. I really wanted to get the fratbat! Finally came here on a wednesday afternoon at 5:30pm. Its about 2 blocks away from Gastown so its on a pretty quiet block. Got seated near the window, which was facing the railway tracks behind Water St., so it was actually really cool! Ordered the: Fries: it was such a large portion and it was delicious with the housemade ketchup and their chili garlic vinegar. For only $5, it was totally worth it and perfect with the beer. Mezze Plate: pretty big portion -- roasted red pepper, olives, goat feta, and a white bean& olive dip. They give a lot of the dip (1/3 of the plate) with three decent sized pieces of the flatbread. Everything on the platter was delicious and complemented everything so well! Totally recommend! We also asked the waitress to give us a frat bat, but since I didnt know that much about beer and there was just so many selections, we asked her to just bring us a variety of her favorites. She gave us the (1) Watermelon (2) Epony (3) Tuff (4) Oatmeal. My favorite was the "Tuff" and least favorite was the "Epony" (too bitter). Really awesome place to go especially if you like BEER. The food is awesome too and a good price. Our server was extremely attentive and nice. Definitely coming back the next time I come back to Vancouver :) read more
Alibi room ( @alibiroom ) how many times have I passed you by because of my non existent budget? Little did I know your brunch offerings are totally within my guilt range! We found the service to be friendly and efficient, although the kitchen on Sunday was running in slow-mo. We only noticed because our guests were hoping to get to their next destination early and kind of stressing on it. The food was tasty, the beer selection good, the room is fun, the crowd is interesting. The proximity to Gastown makes this an excellent choice when heading to an event nearby. *gluten free menu items, just pick & choose wisely. read more

The Alibi Room is just great. Get there early enough and you can get a table, from which you can, in comfort (if a bit chilly - this building is VERY OLD), sample their incredible beer list. On my last visit, I tried the Swans Coconut Porter - yes, a COCONUT beer - and shared the mezze plate with a friend. Their homous is absolutely delicious, and so were the olives and roasted red peppers that were served on the plate. My second beer was a Howe Sound Megadestroyer - a beer that was brewed specifically for the Alibi Room's 200th tap. I'd had it in bottles but experiencing it draught-style was fantastic. We also ordered cocktails, which were fittingly strong and delicious. Everything was great, and the price was reasonable. This is the kind of funky-cool-out-of-the-way truly-Gastown bar to which I would bring an out-of-towner if I wanted to convince them to move to Vancouver. read more

A good friend of mine from work, who shares the same affinity for beer, recommended that I go to Alibi Room. Thank god, I just happened to be going for dinner with a group of beer lovers. So, I suggested heading to Gastown to try it out. The Alibi Room is tucked away in a corner of Gastown, out of the way but still convenient. When we walked in I knew it was the place for me. I don't give 5 stars easily on yelp, but this place is worthy of all 5. The beer variety is amazing; they even tell you how hoppy each beer is on the menu. I appreciate this, I'm not big on hoppy beer and the worst is when you order it and have to gag it down. Everyone's opinion of too hoppy is different. The Alibi got this bang on. They even had sour beer, never seen that before. And they have 2 levels, so you can sit upstairs in the dining area or downstairs near the bar. The food menu is small but this is always a good sign. It means what they do make, they make well. And this is very true for here. We all ordered something different. I had the veggie burger, the BF had the beef burger, and the couple we went with had the pork burger and the cheese plate. I MUST give kudos to the chef, the veggie burger was actually amazing. I'm always hesitant to try veggie burgers because they are usually fake and full of soy. But this one was excellent. Everyone raved about their food. We loved it. And kudos to Tiff for suggesting it. I really enjoyed the Alibi room. The atmosphere is great, they give quick service and the food is awesome. It's a MUST try. Cheers! read more
