Stopped in to grab early dinner. Service was good however the waiter did not acknowledge nor look at my significant other until it came time to pay. Food was okay, we started with the house made bread and buttter- great texture.5/5 we also ordered 3 veggie dishes to share. Papas bravas- cooked well drizzled in sauce. 3.5/5 Oyster mushrooms- also cooked well in a bed of what I believe is the same sauce from the potato's- eating a bit or the potato with the mushroom together made it more enjoyable. Then we had a veggie bouillabaisse - pretty flavorless in my opinion- steamed veggies in a broth with a side of bread. I also tried this pisco sour, 5/5 . I've had mixed experiences at Fable as I'd been before (two weeks ago) for happy hour on the patio and the service was excellent. The patio is great (no view but feels nice and calm), the location is super convenient, and inside there's lots of space with a relaxed sports-bar feel that isn't overly noisy (there are many levels and staircases if you have mobility challenges. But the main floor is very large and accessible, I don't think the patio would be accesible it's up some stairs). This time we sat inside. Our server was very friendly, but not very attentive and I think he commented he was new. But try to catch his attention? We had empty wine glasses for maybe 10 to 15 minutes and waved at him every time he walked within eyesight, over and over, and he never once looked at our table (I know we could get up and find him but he should have checked once in a while how we were doing). The bill also had to be corrected because we were charged regular prices for items that were on happy hour. And the table water was lukewarm, should have been chilled a bit. The food was the biggest let down. My $28 poke bowl had maybe three tablespoons of tuna, a very small number of edamame, and roasted corn (nice taste), on top of a huge mound of rice. Almost all rice. I choked at the price for such meagre poke. And my friend felt the forest chicken portion was also way too small to justify the price. Service was fast. Oh, and they provided ketchup for the french fries...not even a teaspoon! We joked and they brought over the full bottle to fill up the side cup (I noticed many full ones on the kitchen bar counter, I guess ours was somehow missed...that should not have made it to our table, something a good server would notice or the kitchen staff at the pass. The house white wine was quite nice and good happy hour price. I'm definitely going back for happy hour on the patio and a few light snacks, but based on this visit I wouldn't return for a full meal. read more

Great place to watch sports. I've been here a few times for Whitecaps matches and the place has been packed. There's a reason some of the supporters groups keep coming back here. The food is good and the servers seem to have limitless energy even with a full capacity. $20 for a burger & beer combo on gameday is something to be admired these days if you ask me! I had gone with friend party for dinner to fable diner and bar in downtown Vancouver branch. Place has full authentic bar vibes with medium sound background music and dim lightning. I tried tofu pasta with cherry colada as drink . The pasta had egg too in its noodles sauce so be mindful if you are vegan. It was a bland pasta and I have had better than this one. Cherry colada was more like a milkshake with coconut milk in it but it was complimenting the blandness of pasta. Portion size was okay . Service is good and staff is nice. Overall if you are looking to have pub feel kind of dinner place to hang out together this is the place. They have less vegetarian options but they can accommodate on burger options. read more

I was excited to dine here at the recommendation of one of the servers from another restaurant but my experience fell short. In summary, we waited a long time for our food (almost 50 minutes with a follow up with our server). Service was slow, he couldn't answer questions about the menu and mimosa special. We had to repeatedly ask for water, spoons and cream for our coffees (which tasted off and unusually bitter). Our entrees came out cold. I came here for my friend's birthday celebration. She had booked their bottom dining space which has a bar for her birthday and had about 20+ attendees. I think this is a very good place to host an event because guests can order drinks + food on their own dime by just starting a tab at the bar. Their space is pretty big (has couches, tables, and chairs) and has a pool table and dart boards for entertainment. Their music system was pretty good too! The staff were pretty fast at the bar and were good at keeping a track of everyone's tab. We got a cake for my friend that they kept in their fridge till we were ready for it, so overall they were very organized! I ordered their fries and chickpea fritters for some lite bites. I would say their fries were really good and checked all the boxes - crispy, right amount of salt, and a big portion. Their chickpea fritters were basically falafel dressed in sauce and cilantro. I thought the fritters were pretty dry and hard to chew. The sauce they had did not go that well with the fritters. I would definitely go back there and order some more things from their menu, but I will surely recommend this place if you want to host an event. :) read more

On April 18 we attended Fable for brunch. I have Celiac disease and have to be extremely cautious about gluten. Our waitress was fantastic and made sure that my eggs benny was on a Gluten free muffin and let me know that the potatoes were deep fried with other gluten items so she substituted a salad. Our table ordered Ceasars and I asked if they had gluten free vodka. Our waitress and the bartender researched all their vodkas to find one that was gluten free. I also asked for no worschestershire sauce as it has gluten. The bartender ran to the IGA and bought gf worschestershire sauce!! Above and beyond service! My meal and my drink were delicious! Met some Yelpie friends here for an impromptu OYE today at 4pm. I had passed this place a few times last summer and was super impressed with how inviting and lovely the place looked from the street, and I've had it in the back of my mind to return here to try it out. I was even more impressed with the restaurant layout and interior once I actually went inside. It is the warmest, most welcoming interior I've seen in a long time! Multiple levels, lots of warm burgundy exposed brickwork, lots of booths as well as intimate tables for two with plush, comfy chairs, strings of twinkly lights scattered along the wrought iron railings leading downstairs and along bannisters and rails. Separate dining and bar areas, with large tv's in the lounge section (sports on them all). The downstairs has billiards tables, dart boards, its own bar and dining tables, and I hear their Monday night trivia is held here. Oh, and they have a huge, gorgeous outdoor patio area. I am SO looking forward to checking that out in the summer! When I arrived at 4pm the place was virtually empty. (It was starting to get a bit busier when we left at 5:30-ish). The guy who seated me and our servers were all super nice and helpful. They have free wifi here (nice!), but my phone was unable to connect to it, despite ensuring the password was correct (bummer). The menu is large and varied, and prices are reasonable. They have a decent Happy Hour menu, and lots of specials when there are events at BC Place or Rogers Arena (nice!). Mixed reviews for our foods and drinks ordered today. My sangria was...okay. Mediocre. My friend's lemonade, however, was fabulous (and beautifully garnished too). My diner burger was quite good, despite perhaps being a tad overcooked, with a VERY generous serving of bacon on top. The potato bun was great and the aoili inside, a flavorful touch. I asked for the onion rings on the side instead of in the burger. There were only two but man, they were good. The meal came with a humongous portion of French fries and I couldn't eat a one, as I was so full from the burger. Two friends loved their burgers (one had the burger with a red wine-pouched pear on top. Interesting and delicious, she said). One friend, however, had mixed feelings about her pulled pork and barbecue sauce burger, saying it was too salty. We all were impressed by the generous portions and huge amount of fries with each meal. We came here for an early dinner and it was during their happy hours. Yay! Cheaper drinks and food. I decided to get a Bourbon Lemonade which was bourbon, bitters, lemon juice with honey syrup. It was pretty good, not too bitter. The HH menu was a bit limited in food as it was mostly bar food plus burgers. I tried the Kitchen Burger which came with red wine poached pear. I liked it, it was a bit sweet too. So you get the sweet and salty taste. Fries were crispy and hot. The place is big, with many sections, patio and even a basement. There are trivial nights too. Service was hit and miss. Our first server was awesome! Very patient and accommodating to our requests. Unfortunately her shift ended while we were still dining. The server who took over was not as great. We felt very rushed by the way he was clearing the table even while we were still eating. It was not like the place was jumping with people. It was still pretty empty then on a weeknight. In the end, my friend didn't even finish her food and drink. It was not a relaxing meal in the end. Good food. Hit and miss service. Will I be back? Maybe if I am already in downtown and there are no other options. read more

Fable Diner and Bar is not the same as the W 4 location. This is a scaled down restaurant. The food was somewhat disappointing. I do have to say the prices that they charge during happy hour is quite reasonable and is basically diner prices. First server 5 stars and last server 1 star) -Atmosphere/ Decor 4 stars I came here with some Yelpie friends (N and C) along with B. I ordered the Happy Hour Bar burger. It is a smash burger with pulled pork in it. The burger came with fries. It was a very good generous portion size (what you would expect from a diner). However, the burger itself was very salty. The fries were also very salty. The pulled pork was douced with too much sauce. The patty was over cooked. I was a bit disappointed. Fable is known for farm to kitchen and I always thought that they would like to highlight their ingredients more than to over salt or season their food. I personally hate wasting food and I because of how salty the fries were, I was not able to finish the rest of it. The atomosphere was quite nice. I liked the decor. The decor gave off this nice cozy feeling and maybe it was because there is a fireplace in the dining area. The restaurant itself was very clean. The restaurant has 3 floors. On Monday, they have a trivia night going on. The service here was a hit and miss. Our first server was very sweet. She was really nice and attended us very well. Unfortunately half way into our meal, it was the end of her shift and she went home. We were then served by a male server which was not that great. I tested the server with my empty water glass and he didn't fill it up until I told him to. He even saw that my glass was empty and didn't even ask or went to top it up. It didn't help with the salty burger and fries that I drank 2 full glass of water. I actually needed more water but didn't want to bother the lazy server especially when dining with friends. I came here for a friend's birthday and we had a nice night. It's a neat building and cozy, the vibe (at least at night) is more tavern than diner. We had a very enthusiastic waitress who really brightened the place up! The dinner menu has a varied selection of comfort food. I had the Wasabi Pea Encrusted Salmon with a Ginger Strawberry Kombucha to drink. The wasabi pea salmon is a cool concept and I thought it was very tasty! Prepare for crunch if you order this. The side rice and corn were well-seasoned too, not just afterthoughts to the salmon. The kombucha was sweeter than expected, but the flavour was great. It's very cool that they make their own! I had a Lemon Meringue Parfait for dessert, which was like a deconstructed lemon meringue pie. For some reason I really liked the vanilla wafers they used. It's completely possible they were just generic commercially-produced wafers but they tasted fresh! The value is okay for a meal downtown. Although it's not the cheapest, I was actually pleasantly surprised by the quality of food for a place that calls itself "diner and bar". I love Fable ... they play classic tunes from the 80s & 90s. This bar is chill & mellow ... like dat! This new diner bar by Fable, used to be the Tap House Grill at the Kingston Hotel on Richards St. Yelpies you have to see my Fable review for their Mount Pleasant location. Now I've only ever had breakfast there, but I'm happy to see Fable expand. This diner/bar is huge with the added dining area. Currently operating on 'soft opening' limited hours, Fable will be open longer eventually with extended hours & with more menu variety. You know how things have gone with this bloody pandemic - restrictions, labour shortages, sickness etc. Let's hope 2022 is finally the break through year & we can put Covid-19 to bed ... or something like that!?! *Hot Tip Alert - Fable bar will be opening up downstairs as well ... a Speakeasy!? Good service and they even cater to little ones with colouring activities. Food unfortunately, was mediocre. The avocado toast (1 slice) for brunch was under average portion sizing. Omelette was underwhelming and the breakfast potatoes were not crispy. They might catch a few patrons from Cafe Medina across the road but in comparison it's a tall order. The interior has a rustic dive bar feel to it although they have a small section of the patio under the sun. read more

We dined there this past Saturday, it didn't look crazy busy, but it's also a lot larger than one would think. The food took a little long.. like 45 minutes long, perhaps that's normal wait times for Saturday business volumes. Nonetheless, we weren't in a rush and it was worth the wait as it was so delicious! My bf got the pulled pork special and I got a bunch of sides, including the fried chicken which was perfect! Their pulled pork is perfection as well. The food was really really great and I'll definitely be going back and recommending this place! :) My other friend got the savoury duck pancake, she loved every bite! I've always liked Fable, so super happy they opened a location in Downtown. Came here for Dine Out brunch, but I believe they have the daily brunch special set menu on their regular menu so you can enjoy a 3-course brunch anytime. The brunch menu comes with coffee or tea AND a specialty drink of your choice. The first course is a scone with sun dried tomato butter. The second course I got was the breakfast taco and the trucker's platter. There were other options like eggs benny and a bowl. The last course was a feature dessert. The dessert that was featured when I went was a brownie. I wished the brownie had been warm. That's honestly my only feedback. Otherwise, service was excellent, food was great, and the set menu was worth it especially given the current inflation. Definitely adding this to my go-to Downtown brunch places! read more

Serving American classics, local beers and stiff pours ;I'm sure you'll be happy. We splits a burger with a fried egg, bacon and all the fixings. It was good. If the bar's not your thing they have two floors of restaurant seating. We got off a cruise ship and were staying local and were looking for local food. Mathieu (a fantastic bartender) and several locals made us feel like we lived locally. My beer was never empty and always cold. Service outstanding, even when the local CFL football game brought a heavy onslaught of fans into the bar! Hope you go check them out, they're doing great things!!! read more

A solid bar with good food to boot and great service. Like most folks have noted, food takes a good amount of time to get out, so grab a couple of pints, watch a game, and hang out. The interior is massive, so you won't be hurting for a seat, whether it's in the bar area or in their larger dining area. As for the food, it's good but nothing to write home about. Met my son for 'Dine out' for brunch. The ambience was so inviting with alot of character. The food was very delicious and fresh and tasty. The service was good but not out of this world. No real eye contact, somewhat quick with service and not very genuine. I definitely will recommend this place for the food. They also have trivia night, boozy brunch and live shows. read more

Went here for a quick dinner bite and drink before a concert. The interior decor is warm and welcoming. Service was slow, but it was busy, and clear they were understaffed which is a wider problem in hospitality so I won't comment on that. The menu is what you'd expect in a downtown pub/bar/restaurant - simple pub food. The night took a turn when the food I ordered turned out to be, quite frankly, revolting. Looking at what others had ordered and sampling a few bites here and there I wouldn't venture back to Fable to eat again. Times are tough for restaurants right now but if your kitchen serves up slop, you need to know. read more

Love Fable in Kits so tried their new location downtown tonight and it was great! Food was excellent (the Chickpea Fritters were particularly fab) as were the cocktails (Kombucha Marg and Bees Nees lemonade were unique, tasty and well-balanced). They have had a soft opening and wow! Great atmosphere, awesome food and service. They provided a Dine Out Vancouver menu that had three excellent entre choices and the price point was perfect considering you are in the downtown area!
