Toothpick that was in a taquito

This place is so terrible. I went through the drive thru and ordered 3 beef Taquitos and other food for my family. Upon eating my dinner at home I took a bite of my Taquito and was met with a stabbing pain. A damn wooden toothpick was in my taquito and stabbed me in my mouth. I am beyond pissed. I have a bleeding cut in my mouth now from this bullshit. I called the location and was met with an employee named Marisol who said her manager was not in and understandably didn't know what to do in this scenario. I am going to complain as far as I can go. What the heck is their cook doing. Alejandro the cook working today definitely failed. If my kids got an injury like this I'd sue up and down. This is totally bullshit. How does a tooth pick get in a taquito !?

The biggest tacos I've ever seen in my whole life. I wish I was warned. I ordered 4 tacos like I normally do but I could only finish 2. And I'm a big eater. They were decently tasty. Good value. Wish it had more toppings like jalapeño, carrot, onion.

Had this place on our list for a minute and finally came here for dinner when I was feeling too lazy to cook after getting groceries at Costco. For the price, you get relatively tasty food. I expected it to be much worse, as many of these restaurants tend to dumb down the flavor significantly to cater to the general population. They're no frills and quick service. I found the ladies at the counter to be alright --not overtly friendly, but not mean either. We ordered inside at the counter and then sat down inside to eat our meals. -The burrito was a good size, but didn't have any rice and beans, and the flavor was a bit bland, but it got the job done. Hubby left full, so it works out. -I got the queso birria tacos and ordered a side of rice and beans because I was craving them as we switched to Quinoa at home :( The Consommé was yummy enough, and they gave you a decent-sized side, so I used the extra to add flavor to my rice and beans. I liked the tacos. You can't go wrong with these, so I would have been really surprised if they managed to mess this dish up. As for the types of folks that frequent this place, I'd say yeah, you get the seedy ones given the area, but lots of regular city folks grabbing some food on their way home as takeout or after grocery shopping in the area like us. We didn't feel unsafe or anything and inside is spotless, super clean. Even when someone who seemed unhoused came in, he was treated well, and there were plenty of staff who would have likely intervened if something had gone down. That said, we were there on a Saturday afternoon, so I don't know how it gets on other days and nights. Loved that they have their own parking lot too, and close to a few bus stops if that's more your jam.

Stop by here today and it was so good getting this monster burrito. It had so much meat in it. It would've been nice to see a few other things besides all that meat if I could've tasted more toppings, but it was amazing and delicious. I don't know about the ambience cause I ordered it to go. The service was OK but the food was amazing pretty authentic. I would definitely say check it out. I sent one of the truck drivers from my job and he loved it too.

Pros: big portion, delicious, fast service, ample parking, fast food well done Cons: uncertain at this point

Intoxicating bright lights & bold vibrant colors with the idea of tacos lured me into Alberto's for lunch. Yet that was my best part of the experience... Frank now reviews the menu and the 4ft imagery of the 5 rolled Tacos Supreme made me say, YES! A friendly staff member took my order and within a few clicks of the clock my order was served. I sit down and was still very enthusiastic about my order and then I ate some of it.. Let's just say very bland subpar food. By the halfway point I had the urge to upchuck right then and there. Yet I composed myself and proceeded to toss the rest. I thought I could walk it off but the overwhelming idea of what I ate made me hurl what ever it was in the parking lot... Lucky for me I had some breath mints in the cars and napkins. To add injury to insult as I drove out of the parking lot The Golden Arches of McDonalds were laughing at me.... And I could have enjoyed a Quarter Pounder with cheese. Will I be back, ahhhhhh NO!

    Pork Chile Verde

They must have changed their recipe for their chile verde pork dish and/or changed their cook. The last couple times it has been terrible. The sauce is reddish brown, not green (doesn't verde mean green?) and gritty tasting (added weird spices). I try to have an open mind that maybe this is just a different type of chile verde, but this last time it was inedible and I had to throw it in the trash. What a shame.

My dad buys their burritos all the time. He raves about this place. Service is VERY slow though. Don't go on your lunch break lol

Ordered this 3 times during our 5 day Seattle Stay! Food was actually fresh and good. Compared to other spots like this. The carne asada was really good not a lot of fat and cartilage like other places have . Lost a star because we never would get sauces with our delivery even tho we asked

Second time ordering from here (through DoorDash) and love it! Very quick service and both times, I ordered during rush hour. I absolutely love the quality of the tacos, with a generous (maybe too generous haha!) amount of meat, I could make another one or two tacos more out of it. The second time I ordered their California Burrito. I wasn't sure if it tastes the same as the California Burrito from Alberto's in Van Nuys (LA) so I knew I had to try it. I was very happy, it felt almost nostalgic (Haven't had it since I left in 2020). The burrito was not overfilled but it had an equal amount of meat, french fries, and cheese. The authentic taste and their fast customer service will keep me coming back! Hope they stay consistent!

    Monster burrito
    Andrew H.

One of the best value and tasting Mexican food in the area. They are also open 24/7 which is great for late night munchies. The service is quick and the portion size is big. The monster burrito was around $10 and was filled to the brim. I really appreciate that the burrito had more than just rice and beans too. I particularly enjoyed the al pastor as it was very flavorful. There is also a salsa bar with a lot of tasty salsa options, and elevates the food to another level.

Although it's naturally very fatty, the flavor and juiciness was retained after cooking - so they didn't screw it up. The salsa verde was a very nice accompaniment, as it tasted light, fresh, and a good complement to the fat of the meat. The mole enchiladas were less good. The mole sauce used leaned way too heavily on a sweet flavor - having little to no nuttiness whatsoever. It didn't taste anywhere close to some of the best moles I've had. The enchilada underneath was fine - nothing special. Both dishes came with beans and rice. Both were slightly above average, but nothing to write home about. I would say the portions were well sized in terms of overall amount, but the enchiladas were quite small compared to the beans and rice. With these two dishes we ended up around 28 per person. Overall, it's average Mexican food. 6.5/10

I'm usually a fan of a smaller, curated menu because it suggests care in sourcing and execution. But for us, the execution just didn't land. Everything is served family-style, but the portion sizes didn't justify the price point. We started with the sourdough and butter spread, and it was a letdown right away. The bread was hard as a rock, and the butter--while sounding interesting--came slightly burnt and didn't feel worth $11 for two pieces. Next was the albacore tuna tostada. As someone who travels to Mexico City often, I was genuinely excited for this. But it leaned heavily on avocado, with barely any tuna to balance it out. For $25 and only two tostadas, it felt pretty stingy. The rapini quesadilla sounded promising but ended up tasting mostly like broccolini and mushrooms--nothing that really stood out or justified the dish. We finished with the 21-day dry-aged steak, which, at $59, felt like it should've been a highlight. Unfortunately, it missed the mark. It came out essentially raw, which I didn't mind in theory, but it was incredibly chewy and lacked flavor. It was difficult to cut and even harder to enjoy. The tortillas were nice, and the demi-glaze had potential, but overall it just didn't come together. Even the refried beans on the side were underwhelming--something you could easily find done better at a casual spot. On the bright side, the mezcal margarita with a tajín rim was excellent--well-balanced and probably the highlight of the night. And the service was warm and attentive, which I appreciated. But overall, for the prices and the hype, this place just didn't do it for me. Maybe we ordered wrong, but I've had much better elsewhere. I hate to say it, but I probably won't be back.

So many of our regular spots had lines out the door, which was no surprise, but we ended up getting a table here. Figured Mexican food is hard to mess up. They have an option where you can try ALL of their dips for $20, which I couldn't resist. It was so fun, they had like 9 different ones! I got the shrimp tacos and they were so flavorful that I almost gasped. The creamy sauce, crunchy veggie toppers, smooth avocado, and perfectly cooked shrimp...just wow. I will be dreaming about this dish for years to come. I am a pescatarian and gluten free and there were TONS of options for me. They mostly use corn for everything, not flour. The staff was gracious and kind. They seemed a little understaffed but truly made the most of it and made every table feel attended to and special, which was so lovely. Before it seemed like Maiz Molino was focusing on elevated, unique Mexican dishes (shown in the pics in my prior review such as short rib, and other sort of "fusion" dishes, and more seafood focused, etc.) Now, the menu seems way more generic and casual like enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, tamales, etc. just offered w/ different proteins. They are still focusing on maiz but just a bit more generic in the preparation and offerings. Also, they had 2 separate menus which was a bit confusing. One is a generic all day menu and then another menu had brunch and dinner on it. It was around 5:30 p.m. but they were out of a particular steak dish that we were interested in. Service was friendly. We had enchiladas, a dip sampler (for appetizer) and Tlacoyos. Everything was fine but nothing really stood out, sadly. It wasn't very busy while we were there, so hoping that they are doing ok as a business. I would love to come back if they brought back the old menu w/ things that you cannot really find elsewhere, including the great cocktail menu and desserts that were offered previously.

Andrew (our server) introduced us to his sidekick, who was in training. Have to stop here and express my appreciation for Andrew and how he took the time to explain the philosophy and genuine team vibe of the restaurant. Oftentimes when a restaurant adds a flat 20% gratuity, you get the feeling this is not passed on to the servers. Not so here. He explained that it's shared among the servers, bar, and other staff, with only a bit retained by management, but even that finds its way into their wages. Terrific work environment and happy to see it. It definitely shows in the level of service. But we're here to eat. Didn't take a picture, but one of my dining companions ordered the burrito with red chili sauce and it was very good. Just the right amount of heat in the sauce. The Cantina celebrates Taco Tuesday, so I took advantage of this. You get the opportunity to try 5 different street tacos for the low price of $15. For another $4 you order it fully loaded which is a steal (guac, pickled onions, lettuce, giardano, crema, and another lovely sauce). Each of the tacos were really delicious and packed full of flavor. I especially enjoyed the cauliflower and the beef. Was surprised how much I liked the popcorn chicken - still juicy and not greasy in the least. Andrew treated us to a round of the hatch green chili. I was delighted because it was a dish I wanted to try. He described it perfectly: a little kick, but you can't stop eating it. He was right. A bowl of this in the winter with their cornbread (which I'm confident will be delicious) will preempt a winter cold. The sauces on the table are not to be ignored either. The green chili sauce was fruity with a little heat, the scorpion chili brings the heat, but their homemade chili oil is phenomenal. I could put this on everything. In short, the Cantina delivers. Excellent food, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and fun staff, and a cool vibe. I'll bet the cocktails will also be good. Definitely adding to the regular rotation!
