Free chips! Help yourself.
Dianna T.

I've driven past this place a lot, so I'm glad I finally stopped in to check it out. They are open during COVID for dine in or take out. Los Potrillos means "The Foals" or baby horses, which explains the horse motif on their signs and walls. I'm not quite sure why this location is #4, but they do operate two taco trucks in addition to this restaurant. They have a huge photo menu posted above the register, which is kind of cheesy, but also very helpful in case you don't know what you want. I ordered the Combo Tacos, which is three tacos (your choice of meat), refried beans, and rice. The food was ok, but maybe a little too salty for my taste. They offer free chips here, which is really cool and they taste great. They live in a little warming station and you can help yourself. They also have a free salsa bar. The lady at the register was nice and someone brought our food to our table. They also bus your table when you are finished.

Moving from California a few years ago, everyone always says the PNW is lacking in traditional, quality, Mexican food. These people have not been to Los Potrillos [#4]. Los Potrillos is the closest I have found to the greasy but not too greasy, flavorful, made from family recipes, not covered in artisanal corn salsa, Mexican food that I grew up eating. The carnitas is smoky, crispy, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. My boyfriend typically ordered carne asada wherever we go, and sometimes the bottom half of the burrito is just dripping with grease - well, not here! You can actually eat the whole thing and it isn't dripping in fat, grease, or gristle. The best part though, the absolute BEST PART, is that they use refried beans. RE-FRIED-BEANS, guys! NO ONE up here uses refried beans. It's always black beans or pintos, but don't worry. The search is over.

Pozole!

I love the Pozole here! It comes with cabbage, lime, cilantro and spice. This huge amount of food hits the spot on a cold day. Service is great, plenty of seat and free street parking. Check them out

This Mexican spot is as good as it gets. Even the cashier barely speaks English so you know it'll be good LOL. I ordered a bunch of different things - burritos, quesadillas, tacos, and the entree plates. Everything came out hot and fresh, no complaints about anything. The highlights were definitely the Carnitas plate with its perfectly cooked and crispy pork, as well as the crunchy Tripe Tacos which were an absolute flavorbomb. They also have free chips and a salsa bar with a good variety of sauces you can help yourself with :)

Poorly package food! Container bent (significantly more than pictured here, should have gotten a better angle.) Food spilled out in bag.
Heather T.

Gave them a second chance after my first order being terrible! When I opened my food, the container was bent, and food had spilled out of the bag. Not only this, I asked for extra sauce and receive NO ENCHILADA SAUCE AT ALL ON MY ENCHILADAS!!! I regret giving them a second chance- definitely not worth the money. I knew that moving from Southern California to here would be hard on my craving for Mexican food but I at least had hope. But this was god awful!!! I'd give this place negative stars if I could!

This is my favorite place to get mulitas and horchata! They are very authentic with their dishes and pretty quick when it comes to making them as well. The quality is consistent across the 4 locations I have been to. I want to try other dishes but I'm stuck on the mulitas! They're so good . I would recommend this place to anyone.

Self-serve chips and salsas

Los Potrillos serves some of the most authentic, day-to-day Mexican food I've had west of the Cascades. What's even better is when I step up to the register (that is, once I've made my food decision from the huge menu), I am greeted in Spanish and am allowed to solely speak in Español. The owner's family is always at one of the tables, Mexicans are cooking in the kitchen and there are Latino customers. These are all pointers to "the real deal." I found out that Los Potrillos is a small, local Seattle chain with locations in Kent, Federal City and Seattle. After ordering your food at the counter, they have a heater machine with perfectly golden chips and a refrigerated spread of tasty salsas from mild to hot. I am a fan of the light green avocado salsa. No matter what I ordered from the large menu, it is always tasty.

Having some fresh chips and salsa

I lovvvvve the Birria here . I've tried a few things and they've all been good . When I head to this area for tacos I'll here from now on .

Pastor and asada with extra onions and cilantro topped with extra green and red salsa from the bar!

A good go-to for veggie burrito. Chips are also not too late or greasy and the salsas are freaking great.

Any vegetarian options!?

Yep! They do a tasty veggie burrito, and chili relleno burrito - but they have a whole vegetarian section. Enjoy!

The chile verde pork is so good, my wife, who primarily orders vegetarian, goes for all their variations, quesadillas being her favorite. This weekend is Valentine's Day, and while I am not with my beloved, George and Erika shared a sample of their new menu items, chilaquiles (heart shaped for the holiday) - both chili verde and chipotle. The other item was a stack of tres leches pancakes, with fruit. While all were delicious, I liked the chipotle chilaquiles the best. Good enough to make me consider mixing up my wet burrito with salsa macha in the future. So, we just came back from Playa del Carmen Mexico, where we hoped to have some over the top Mexican food. While breakfast was great it wasn't enough to outshine Fire Tacos. A waiter at one restaurant summed it up well. Everyone in Mexico makes good food, but the best of the best succeed in the US. That is Fire Tacos. The best of the best. I rarely give 5 stars, but Fire Tacos e arnés every one!

It's so fresh and the flavoring and garnish is on point. Service was friendly and efficiency. As soon as the waiter turned away after he took our orders, the nachos showed up. The vibe is fun and loud like a usually Mexican bar/restaurant. It was a nice and warm day on Alki, an area always so crowded and can be overwhelming, on any nice warm sunny day. My daughter asked if we can try Fire Tacos because her bff said it was good. We showed up asking for a table of 4 and were told the wait is about 20 mins. We walked to Ben & Jerry next door and had a small ice cream, sat down and finished it, then got notification our table was ready. It earns a spot on my list to return, especially we live 5 mins away.

They accidentally messed up part of our taco order, but the staff was incredibly kind about it. Not only did they quickly fix it, they also gave us an extra taco for free as an apology Totally unnecessary but very appreciated and such a nice gesture. Everything we ordered was delicious. The pollo burrito was flavorful and satisfying, the carne asada tacos were tender and packed with flavor, and the quesadilla had the perfect meat-to-cheese ratio. Yum!! There was no clear line for online orders or ordering in person and the environment was chaotic and unorganized. I told the gentleman my name for the order and he said we're still working on it while walking away from me. I was told to step aside and waited over 30 minutes as I watched other folks order and grab their food in a timely manner. After some time, my food that was sitting on a shelf was given to me. Upon coming home and opening my food, I found that it was lukewarm and nearly cold. In addition to that, my order was wrong. Their phone number does not work so I had to come back in person to communicate their errors. They remade my food and gave me free chips and guacamole, but that doesn't change the fact that I wasted over 60 minutes of waiting and driving back and forth for a simple order of tacos. An incredibly frustrating experience for food that I actually like and enjoy eating.

However, it still tasted like it had a really nice flavor, and had a soft interior. It being actually spicy would've moved this dish up a lot, though each taco was primarily made out of this chicken - and there was so much of it it was practically insane - but I loved this amount shoutout to the onions as well - they were great I asked for the habanero sauce - which i thought was ok - wasn't spicy at all and didn't add much flavor. will go with another sauce next time tried mixing in some taco bell fire sauce which was interesting i love that these came wrapped in aluminium foil to preserve heat. a great touch overall, as far as taste, these were pretty good, but when you consider the amount of meat you're getting, along with overall portion size - it's simply a fantastic meal.

I knew going in that I had to try their carnitas, but it was the other dishes that impressed me the most. The quesabirria was top notch. If you haven't had one before, it's as if a quesadilla and a taco had a beautiful baby - and the tortilla is dipped in the sauce that the meat is cooked in. The cheese is plentiful and delicious, it's a blanket that I've to take a nap in. I was a bit thrown off by the chunks of birria, most places shred it up. But I would say that it was much more juicy than the shredded version, I was blown away. This comes with some awesome roasted jalapeños and onions. The carnitas taco was excellent. For a street taco, they load it up with meat. It's a very traditional taco, so just carnitas, onions, and cilantro on a tortilla. But if you have the opportunity to eat here you should, they have an extensive taco bar with everything you need. The star of the show for me was the tostada de camarón. You just don't get them like this elsewhere in Seattle. Shrimp, mango, jalapeño, and avocado are all diced up to provide even distribution on a crunchy tostada. It's an exquisite bite every time. And there's a sweet sauce on it that makes the whole dish blend together so well. Carnitas Michoacán is a MUST visit if you're in the area. There's also a little market and carnicería next door that has some incredible food if you're making Mexican dishes at home, or if you just want some massive chicharrones.
