I love matcha, let me say it again, I love matcha. So trying out this place was a must! I got the lavender matcha latte without the lavender syrup (I don't like my matcha sweetened). To my surprise, the matcha was very smooth and the color was beautiful! The addition of the lavender tea was surprisingly quite tasty. If you don't like floral teas then I wouldn't get this combination, just get the good old matcha latte. I've got this thing for iced mochas -- I like to compare them amongst coffee shops and I'm happy to say Alfred has a darn good iced mocha. You can get it with either whole or non-fat milk (2% would be a nice option). I found the Alfred mocha to have what tasted like a hint of vanilla - it was very satisfying and distinguished it from other mochas. I found the people who work there very friendly and they have a nice seating area to people watch at the sophisticated Line hotel. I'm not sure where you are supposed to park if you aren't staying at the hotel or walk in (as I did -- the hotel is literally steps from the walking path next to the lake -- just past the Congress St. bridge). read more

The hazelnut flavor was a little weak so I think I'll just opt for an iced latte with no additional syrup next time since they'll probably taste the same. I went right around the time it was closing-- about 30 minutes before so they had run out of a lot of the iced teas which was really upsetting since I had literally come all the way from Dallas. Parking was impossible to find-- I had to park across the street and was sure I'd get towed-- thank god I didn't. I got the matcha iced tea with oat milk and sweetened. It was okay. My friend stated that hers was pretty sweet while mine was very bitter, which makes sense since it was a matcha latte. The coffee is definitely on the pricier side. My matcha latte with oat milk was a whopping $6+ dollars, including tax! A tad overpriced in my opinion. The coffee is not bad, but I've had better. Once you find it, it seems like someplace from a movie. It's so hip it almost hurts. There are dozens of drink options, many of which included ingredients I wasn't familiar with. I went with an iced vanilla latte. The vanilla syrup was house-made and it was truly delicious. The drink wasn't too sweet OR too bitter. It was just right. I'd recommend drinking the coffee nearby, because the paper straws only last about 22 seconds in the drinks (not Alfred's fault!). Cute little coffee shop, nice interior design. Went with coworkers on a Friday morning, no line. I ordered matcha latte. It was not sweet at all, I don't think they added any sugar in it. I usually order reduced sugar in my milk teas, but next time I think I'll add a little bit sugar to this matcha latte :) The matcha taste was strong and lingering. The coffee here is so good I actually came twice for coffee in the one week I'm here in Austin. This little coffee spot is hidden behind a wall, inside the Line hotel. It is pricey, yes, but well worth it compared to what you get at other coffee shops. And the service is great! Cashiers are very polite, and they mentioned both times that their espresso machines pull 2 shots at a time so 2nd add shot is free (I was testing if the second cashier was equally as honest: yes!) which is so generous. There is only one cashier and one barista at a time so be prepared for a wait, though both times I went they moved pretty quick. If I'm ever back here this would be my coffee spot. Only drawback is they use paper straws. I'm all for being environmentally friendly, however, I like to slowly sip and savor my coffees, and, combine that with Austin humidity and heat... My straw melted after half an hour each time. Gotta bring my own straws. Try the matcha concha! read more

I got an almond vanilla matcha latte and it didn't really taste of vanilla just sugar and matcha it was a standard drink. Nothing special it's a pain in the ass to park but apparently you get free valet parking if your just going in for coffee. I'd go back but not go out of my way for it. read more

I waited in line for 15 minutes and they barely got through 4 people and I had to bail because there was no way they were going to get through the 11 people in front of me in 20 minutes which just makes no sense to me for a coffee joint. I wish there were an Alfred (or few) in the DC area. I would probably get a matcha latte every day. In fact, I did get an iced matcha latte every day I stayed at the LINE Hotel. They have a bunch of milk options (including oat milk), which is great for anyone avoiding dairy. The matcha itself is strong and flavorful, without being butter or overly grassy. And IT DOESN'T COME SWEETENED. You can obviously choose to have your drink sweetened by adding honey or simple syrup, but I love that there is no sugar mixed in with the matcha powder (like you would see at Starbucks). On top of everything, the ice cubes are huge, so they don't water down the drink. My boyfriend opted for coffee, which he said was good, too. read more

They're located in a hotel on a busy road, with a small drop off, with no view of an entrance into the garage just the exit. Got into a fight with someone over this reason alone. And a taxi driver literally almost rammed into me. It's a mad house so be careful when you go.. I feel like it was only this chaotic cause of the holidays approaching? I really wanna give Texans the benefit of the doubt. I tried calling them MULTIPLE times but of course they don't have a direct line to them, it's through the hotel. They don't even pick up. We also purchased a fresh coconut which was super yummy and they offered paper straws which was awesome & eco friendly. My only complaint is the barista at the cash register was incredibly rude to not just us but the customers in front of us. The girl in front of us ordered a strawberry matcha and asked for an alternative flavoring to which the barista responded "no that wouldn't taste good" and ended by rudely telling the customer she couldnt change the size because its a $10 drink. Before leaving we asked for saran wrap to take the coconut with us (since austin is hot and it was an entire coconut, why throw it away) and it came wrapped when we purchased it so we didnt think it'd hurt to ask, but she looked confused and had a nasty, baffled, elite-ess attitude. Coffee" neon sign and more. It's a teeny-tiny coffee shop in the middle of The Line Hotel, but there's plenty of lounge seating in the hotel's lobby. My lattes have always turned out delicious! My ONLY downfall for this is the "location" rating, which is definitely subjective - I don't live or work in downtown Austin, or else it would definitely be a "5". For example, me and a few girlfriends I met off of Bumble BFF grabbed coffee after we had lunch at the Fareground one day, so this was the perfect place for that. However, going to The Line is typically a bit out of the way for me; The Line is smack-dab in the middle of downtown and there's barely ever any street parking. However, I *believe* they give free valet if it's 20 (?) minutes or less. I haven't tried the food yet (and I'm unsure as to whether I will anytime soon) but the hotel's flagship restaurant - named "Arlo Grey" - is only steps away. read more
