I've been eating here as long as it has existed, and my parents have been eating there more often than weekly. The owners are a great family, and the food is good. It gets a one star review because the last time I was there, a racist waitress insulted my girlfriend. The waitress refused to refill her water, even when refilling mine. The waitress would not touch a plate that had been eaten from, or would be eaten from, by my girlfriend. My wife and I live nearby and often eaten here. We generally enjoy our meal and the service. However, we went there last Sunday morning with my wife's parents and were extremely disappointed with the service. We had a new waitress who appeared to have lost our order. No big deal. It happens. But, when we followed up with her, after several other tables who were seated more than 20-25 minutes after we were got their food, she got extremely defensive and combative. When paying the bill at the counter, my father-in-law said something to the manager who appeared to be in his early-twenties. As a manager himself, my father-in-law just said something, so if there was a problem in the kitchen or elsewhere, they could address it before additional customers were inconvenienced. The manager didn't take my father-in-law's comment in the manner it was offered and got combative himself. Guess we'll not be going there again when it is busy or when the owner isn't there. Real disappointment as it was becoming our go to place for a good quick meal. read more

Now I usually like me some diner fare, but Alexis...ehhhh, I don't usually care for some Alexis diner. It used to be much better than it is now. There used to be many many more options to eat, and I used to have a much easier time finding something I actually wanted to eat there. I have tried and tried and tried to like this place, but I can't bring myself to do it. The service is always mediocre, as well as the food, and mediocre at best. One time I ordered what I would call a roast beef au jus sandwich. The au jus was lacking flavor, and the roast beef was so tough that it really took a lot to bite through it. Another time I ordered a burger, and the burger was so dry. As others mentioned, some people rave and rave about this place, but I'm just not one of them. read more

Alexi's Diner good staples of diner food, i always get the greek souvlaki which is the chicken version of a gyro. Standard fries and deli dill pickle. Our waitress was alittle off but the others were right on and taking orders and keep the food coming out of the kitchen like a army mess tent. read more

Close to my home in the Defreetsville area, Alexi's has been a favorite spot for Saturday morning breakfast with my husband. His favorite continues to be the Cinnamon Pecan cream cheese french toast, while I prefer a classic belgian waffle with butter and maple syrup, with OJ. The staff members are great, always warm and welcoming, some are totally cool with a terrific sense of humor! It's a great spot for some coffee and a good meal, at a great price with great service. I love Alexi's and it will continue to be my favorite breakfast spot. read more

I gave this place 3 chances to impress, and it failed miserably. First, our table smelled. It smelled like it was cleaned with dirty dishpan water. Second, I ordered a cold sandwich, figuring it was hard to screw that up. As 45 minutes had passed, and customers who had shown up 15 minutes later than us had already been served their hot meals and were getting ready to cash out, I asked the waitress where my simple little cold sandwich was. She replied very snotty tone that she would go check "when she had a free minute". 15 minutes went by...so now we are at an hour wait, I got up and left. As I am leaving, waitress asks if I am going to pay. I reply, "what for" I never got my food or drinks. She replies "Well sir, you still have to pay". I had a few choice words for her and left. This is one of the better diners in the Capital Region. I hate to say this but it still doesn't compare to the diners downstate so I can't give it a 5 but it's close to a 5 for this area. Like most diners, it has a large menu with breakfast served all-day. I haven't had too many different items on the menu because typically I get some sort of grilled chicken dish or breakfast entree but they do a great job with both. The fries are also very good for a diner. The value is about as good as it gets for eating out as well. If you get like a fish dinner or something similar, it comes with both soup and salad as well as a bread basket. Pretty impressive really. The one place that could use some improvement is how long it takes to get the food once you order, it's a bit on slow side but other than that I'm a very happy customer. read more

Absolutely loved it! Brought my daughter in for dinner before a concert and we were impressed with the selection. Serving sizes were very generous and the prices were reasonable. I spent more on chicken fries at Burger King than her ENORMOUS kids' meal, which came with dessert. I had open faced beef with fries and it was fabulous. Good old time dinner delicious! I go here for lunch since it is close to the office and haven't had a bad meal yet. Last week I had their Short Ribs special and it was fantastic. Their prices for lunch specials are fair since you get soup included. If you do go with a larger party and need separate checks make sure you ask in the beginning, as they have had issues separating the check when paying at the register. read more

Not the best diner, but certainly not the worst. Service has been hit or miss the several times we've come here. Also, there are pretty much two (dairy free) vegetarian options: house salad or veggie burger. We pretty much only come back because its closer to home than better diners. read more

I tried again with not much better results. They pawned off deli roast beef as top sirloin. Would not allow a substitutions. My sauerkraut and corned beef were burnt. We've been to this diner three times. The first time was an hour before closing on a Sunday night and we had the a Greek salad wrap and the "Alexi's Steak Burger." The second time was a Saturday mid-afternoon, having a gyro and the "Stuffed Pork Tenderloin." The wrap and gyro were excellent and the burger was pretty good (not great, but quite good and a very large portion for price). The stuffed pork tenderloin however was a complete disappointment, as it wasn't really stuffed with anything: just a bunch of dried, thin pork chops (not pork loin), smothered in a lousy gravy. The third visit we both had burgers. The service varied. The first, it was late and it was obvious that the restaurant had a difficult night, yet our server were still attentive, did their best to be cheerful, and otherwise gave an excellent experience. The last time, I expressed disappointment with the pork dish, and the server basically had a "chef can do no wrong" attitude and was very inattentive to the table, letting water run dry multiple times. The third time, the waitress wasn't exactly attentive, but with a busy restraunt and a good attitude that can be forgiven. Bottom line: 2 stars. If you go there, expect service to be a crap-shoot. The standard diner fare like burgers, sandwiches, etc are quite good (and pricing is reasonable), but you'll be disappointed if you're intent on ordering a dish of any complexity. read more

The diner is gleaming, the service was fine and the hands-on owner was welcoming and kept everything running smoothly during a very busy morning. I am so disappointed. Today being Mother's Day we ordered dinner to be delivered. My husband ordered our dinner Saturday afternoon to be delivered between 5-5:30 on Sunday evening . So 5pm came and went 5:30 came and went and I get a text from the delivery service saying the diner was running behind and he was still waiting on my order. I textcbach said I understand I wasn't going anywhere. At 6 pm I get a call from the driver saying they ran out of what I ordered. Really liver , bacon and onions.?is that a big Mother's Day meal???. I called Alexis diner they said they mleft a phone message . When I checked phone messages I did have one but it was at 5 pm. The time my dinner was suppose to be delivered !!! They waited til dinner was suppose to be AT my house . And like I said Liver , bacon and onions a big seller on mothered day!!!!!too late to call anywhere else unless I wanted to wait til 8 or 9 to eat. So I ended up cooking after all . I don't know how they got a rating as high as they have. I went there yesterday for lunch and when i went to order the lunch special it was just after 3:00 PM and was told lunch special ended at 3:00 and couldn't order from the lunch special menu. So i selected from their menu. First I ordered the Chili which was a special for the day. Wish I hadn't. The Chili was very dry. It was mostly all beans with a trace of meat. They sprinkled cheese on top which never melted due to the fact the Chili was warm, barely. I decided on the Philly Cheese Steak. Wish I hadn't. First impression was I thought they used Bacon, not steak, because that was what it looked like. They probably used a Microwave to heat it up but left it in too long because it was cremated. Meat was dried out and crispy. I thought I was going to puke when I tried it. Didn't eat another bite. My wife ordered the French onion soup which didn't make a good impression. She had the Rueben which was dry and wasn't good. Ate with a group so I didn't make a scene. I saw one person who had ordered chicken fingers and she only took one bite and pushed the plate aside. Others ordered various items but I didn't see any one finish their meal. So all in all what ever they were before they are not now. I would stay away from there. read more

Still doing Atkins. I was nearby so I checked out their Manu online. I saw a few things that were low carb which was good but my eyes were drawn to the wings because it was only $6.19 for ten and $9.99 for twenty. Not so much, more about that later. The guy at the bar/check out counter is a jerk. I'm assuming he is the son or grandson. While I was waiting I got to see what he's passing off as customer service skills. He pretty much belittled an older woman who tried to use a measly $3 or $5 coupon because she already got a discount in the form of ordering off of the senior menu. He actually said to her, "come on, no double discounts." From the way he fumbled around what looked to me like a fairly straight forward POS system, I'm fairly sure he is "loved" by the cooks. So he gets around to cashing me out and says, "I didn't ask but I put them in as mild." Which was fine, I usually do mild or medium. Then he slides a bill for nearly $18 my way. I still had the menu on my phone and showed him they are $9.99 in the menu. He proceeds to tell me the online menu is old. I'm guessing so because they're touting their 2007 Times Union award in the site like it was yesterday. He mentions inflation "these days" (he's early 20s tops!), that wings are 10 for $10 at hooters and that "these are good." Even splitting the difference with me would have made me happy, nope. Apology, nope. "We'll update it right away", nope. They actually were pretty good wings and had good heat for milds which is why they are getting 3 stars. But please folks, if you have an online presence keep it up to date or why bother? Especially when some prices have clearly almost doubled. That's all people who order take out from you have to go on. And pretty pretty please, teach that kid at the desk how to value and treat customers. Probably will not return again and it's pretty much due to the poor customer service. read more

This used to be our favorite diner. Would go there almost every weekend for breakfast but the last 3 times we have gone there the meal has not been good at all and the service has been awful. Every place has their bad days but now this seems to be the norm for them. I must say the service has never really been that great here anyways but their good food always made up for it and kept us coming back. In the many years we have been going there though I don't think ever once has a waitress ever offered to refill my coffee, and when you ask they always seem bothered that you asked them. Who knows maybe they are told not to fill coffee unless the customer asks. As for our food the last three times it has been quite bad. The corned beef hash was burnt to a charcoal black mess. This happened on two separate occasions. Not sure how a cook would even think that was acceptable to send out. Their home fries are completely flavorless. Their fried fish sandwich tasted like something out of the freezer isle and the french toast was really dry and flavorless. Oh well I guess its time to move on. read more
