Great place and could eat there every night. Cherry salmon is great with green beans and scalloped potatoes. Service is great.

We came here for dinner, and despite being the offseason, the restaurant was busy and lively. The service, food, and drinks were fantastic! Bf ordered Salmon ala Oscar ($31). Good size portion of salmon served on top of fresh asparagus, topped with lump crab meat and finished with hollandaise. Decedent and delish! I had the Broiled Door County Whitefish $19 served with mashed potatoes and veggies. read more

Alexander's is one of the best restaurants we have gone to in a long time. We arrived at 4:45 on a Wednesday without making a reservation. it was our 48th wedding anniversary and just didn't think about making a reservation. The hostess said not to worry - she gave us a beeper and said let her seat all the other people with reservations and then she would see what she has. It only took less than 1/2 hour and we were seated. The waiter was excellent and the staff were very attentive to all the guests. The food was outstanding - we had King crab cakes as an appetizer that were out of this world. we had their perch special that was extremely delicious. Sorry no room for dessert. We highly recommend this restaurant if you are in Door County. read more

We made reservations even though it was early April. Even at 7 pm, the place was pretty lively. Our server, Kevin, was great! Attentive without pushing us. My wife had the cosmo - excellent! Not sweet at all. Very adult. I had Buffalo Trace bourbon - *very* fair pour! The wine pours (by the glass) were also excellent. We had the Sea Bass with Risotto (lots of lemon) and Cherry Duck. Both first-rate! The veggie sides were varied and tasty. We also loved the salads, opting for the blue dress dressing. We were having such a great time, we had dessert: peanut butter chocolate torte (approx one million calories) and a phenomenal chocolate drink (the recipe was, we think, chocolate, chocolate, vodka, chocolate liquor, and chocolate). Our only regret - no expresso or cappuccino. Please fix that. We had a great time! read more

Went there for dinner with group of 8. Was thoroughly disgusted with the entire experience. The sign outside explains how careful they are being to provide a Covid free experience. Once inside however, the bar was packed with adults and several children standing and siting shoulder to shoulder. Our table was in a corner with other tables right up against us. The place was hot, stuffy and crowded. Some of our party stayed to eat but I left. Alexander's management is acting in total disregard of all of the social distancing rules I am aware of. Plan to call Wisconsin state authorities and report there flaunting of rules. Don't go there. read more

Good food. Can get crowded. Only advise to owners, please get an online reservation system. Calling restaurant for reservation doesn't really work as no one pick's up. I left 3 messages last week (they ask for your name and # and will call back) and no one called back. Would be 5 stars if reservation process was functional. read more

Food was above average, servers were attentive. Where I have issue however is the timeliness of reservations. I made reservations over a week in advance for 2 people for 6:30pm. When we arrive at 6:30, we were told there's no tables available. They gave us a pager and asked us to take a seat along with a couple of dozen other people. 45 minutes later we were seated. What's the point of making a reservation if it isn't honored? Just make the seating a first come-first served and make it equal for everyone. read more

I struggle to give them more than 3 stars after our experience this evening. We went out as a family of 7 for an early Mother's Day meal. We ordered more than enough between an appetizer, meals and desserts. When our bill arrived our waitress failed to mention that a gratuity was already added so my father gave the waitress cash which is our practice. Upon reviewing the bill we noticed the "service charge" of over $100. After checking the menu and finding no where is it listed that gratuity would be added to parties of our size I left the restaurant with a very bitter taste. What once was a family favorite for anniversary's and other special occasions will now be added to our not worth the drive up north. read more

Well some good some not so great. The good: the service was amazing, the bread was quite tasty, my husbands salmon ala Rockefeller was moist and had a very good hollandaise, au gratin potatoes were also very good. The not so great: I ordered the seafood vol-au-vent- shrimp and lobster were quite overcooked, the scallops and sauce were very good. Unfortunately the puffed pastry was quite burned on the bottom. The asparagus wasn't cut properly and you had to cut off the tough/woody ends. We may return, may not... maybe I would chose a more simple dish. read more

Was there last week on Wednesday. Loved the place! Service, food, drinks, ambiance all excellent. Had the pan fried walleye that was just delicious! Recommend this place to all! read more

This is the only formal dining option in the area. We went on a Sunday evening and the place was fairly crowded. Be sure to make reservations for sure. We ordered two filet mignon dinners. We expected baked potatoes but they only offered scalloped. Not great. Our steaks were cooked to perfection, they were tasty and we had no complaints. We'd order this again. Next time we'll ask if we can get a baked potato! read more

Don't waste your time!! If you want a really good meal with great service go to Barringer's or The Loft!! We had a 7:15 reservation for (2), arrived at 7:05 and was told they were just now seating the 6:30 reservations. We said that's fine and proceeded to wait in the bar where we shared a bar table with a couple who had a 7:00 reservation. Bar area was very warm as if the air conditioning was not running. Other couple were called at 7:45 and we were called a few min later. We made our dinner selections right away and had placed our Pasta orders with a wine pairing before 8:00. Brought our 2 glasses of chilled wine immediately and mediocre salads a few min later. (They had already run out of the soup specials) we then proceeded to wait and wait as other tables were seated, ordered and served. A table of (4) who were in line to check in as we were already waiting in the bar had ordered and were eating while we still waited. Another table of (2), who were seated at least 10 min after us, had finished their meal and received their check while we still waited. They had ordered steaks and had simple pasta dishes. Waiter finally came by and said our meals were almost ready, it was now almost 9:00. Our pasta dishes arrived and were hot but noodles and separate vegetable bowl were both in a pool of oil and grease, couldn't eat either of them! Waiter then just walked by and dropped our check on the table, did not ask how our meal was, desert, nothing. By now we had moved our plates to the side as they were both inedible. Waiter came back for payment and asked if we wanted a box! We said No! the meal was awful, we couldn't even eat it. He said sorry, how about I just bring you a check for the wine? I said that would be fine. He came back a few min later with a check for (2) glasses of wine and (2) $7.00 salads! I've had better salads at McDonalds!! I asked what happened to the check for just (2) glasses of wine you offered since our meal was so late and not even edible? He said "oh, you just wanted to pay for the wine?" I said that's what you offered! to make up for the late service and horrible food! He said fine and stomped off to get another check! Finally received a check for just the wine, paid it and left. Will never go back again!! read more

My husband I and came to Door County to celebrate a post surgery recovery. I've had a lot of complications post surgery and as a result have some severe food allergies. We decided to call to see if we could get a reservation at Alexander's because a friend recommended them highly for their gluten free menu. While I know it was very last minute, the person that answered the phone scoffed at my husband and said if he wanted a reservation he could call back next month. I was fine knowing they didn't have availability, but the rude tone and disrespect shown was unbelievable for a restaurant with such high regard. Im very disappointed in the interaction and as someone that owns a business, I would never be so rude. Though we travel here often, Alexander's will never be on our list of places to dine for future occasions. Simply unacceptable. read more

So yummy! This place was fantastic! The bartender (I think his name was Tony) was so nice and personable! He was a gem and made our night. His fellow bartender was great too and they made an amazing grasshopper, plus let us try the other ice cream drinks! They went above and beyond to make our short wait for a table was enjoyable:). It was packed and we didn't have a reservation so we were fully prepared to wait a bit. Pretty much everywhere in Door County has a wait, so you learn to sit back, have a drink and relax!!! But it actually didn't take long at all before the host called our name. We were celebrating our 20th anniversary and the host, who was such a sweet man with an accent I couldn't quite place, made sure to give us a great table and a delicious tiramisu dessert on the house! Our waitress was very attentive and the food was DELICIOUS! Overall, I can't say enough about what a great experience we had at Alexander's! read more

During the winter, many restaurants close in Door County, but luckily Alexander's is open with shortened hours. We were warming greeted and promptly seated at a nice table. Greeted at table and water glasses filled immediately. Our waiter was Romeo who was young but attentive, efficient, and friendly. My wife ordered blackened whitefish and I ordered a New York strip. Both entrees were perfect as were the side dishes. Great food, good service, and a modern decor. One of the best places to eat on the peninsula. read more

It's really surprising that there are such a large number of positive reviews. Ate there tonight. Water was refilled twice before a waiter showed up. Drink order took 7 minutes to fill. Ordered cowboy steak. It arrived - no protruding bone. Waiter pointed out small embedded bone. Laughable. Under no circumstance can I recommend this place. There are plenty of other dining choices in Door County. Everyone of them will beat this pathetic restaurant. read more

Phenomenal food and atmosphere. After one dinner, it has become a one of our favorites. Can't wait to be back.

Food was okay service was horrible made reservations for a party of 8 and the waiter came over and took the order for 1 person and left then didn't come back until the one person ordered their food and then walked away I made a stink about them getting food and the rest of us not ordering and waiter was real skeptic afterwards. Picture is all that was left from shrimp tempura which was 4 pieces of shrimp. Horrible service had good quality reviews of coming here from other businesses and brought a few members of my company here. If the waiter is going to ask your group what they want to order they should at the same time unrealistic read more

Wow! Absolutely fabulous dinner. We started with the tempura shrimp. Nicely battered, tasty sauce, beautiful presentation. The cherry duck was delicious and the salmon with cherry bbq sauce was possibly the best salmon I have eaten at a restaurant. Vegetables were young and nicely cooked. Fresh herbs were evident throughout. The staff was friendly and always there if you needed anything. Nice touch that you could order a $6 "tell the staff they did a great job". Great evening out. read more

We recently visited Alexander's during our summer and fall visits to Door County. When we arrived the first time the hostess was extremely rude and made us feel like and inconvenience. She did the same to other diners as well. ( we were seated not far from the hostess desk and could hear her. We thought maybe she was having a bad day, but she was the same way during our next visit. Our first dinners were good, the pork chop and the roasted duck. our second visit the oysters were super small and over cooked, the duck was dry and rubbery this time and I ordered Seafood Vol-Av-Vent (one of the highest priced items on the menu) and it was really bad. The puffed pastry was under cooked and was gummy. The sauce was so salty that I actually had to scrap it off the seafood in order to eat it. I contacted Alexander's and was told the owner would call me. That never happened and I can tell they really don't care about their customers because I've seen bad comments about a rude hostess listed since 2017 and the food is hit or miss. We'll miss from now on since there are so many other find dining restaurants in Door County and they appreciate their customers. read more

We had a phenomenal experience at Alexander's. The food and service was absolutely incredible. We got there right when it opened at 5. The steak was perfectly cooked. I got the filet, husband got the ribeye. Served with delicious vegetable melody and potatoes. Beautiful space. Would highly recommend. The only knock I'd give is that they come around TOO often to fill your water, even if you've only had 1/8 of the cup. I think they filled our glasses 8 times while we were there. Otherwise it was fantastic. read more

Tried to celebrate our 28th anniversary. Arrived a few minutes ahead of our reservation time, and proceeded to wait for 45 minutes past our reservation time. I ordered my steak medium well and it came so rare that our server immediately said "that looks very rare" and offered to take it back to be corrected. He brought it back completely black and charred to a burned crisp and it was literally inedible. I ended up only eating a few bites of potatoes for dinner (those were cold when the plate came back). I never ate one bite of the steak I paid for and no one cared. I'm in no way picky or difficult, I never send food back or complain, this was just a terribly prepared plate of food. I was sad we wasted one of our three nights of vacation dinners on this restaurant as it just wasn't a good experience. I highly suggest Shoreline restaurant instead-we had a wonderful meal there and our reservation time was honored. read more

Our food was wonderful. Since it was our first visit, we checked out the steaks. Cooked perfectly and very tasty. What impressed me was the complementary soup. I so want to give this place more stars but the cook on my duck left a lot to be desired. Plus the lady seating us got flustered and became awkward when she noticed one of my party was in a wheelchair. Appetizers: We shared crab cakes and baked brie at the table. The crab cakes are outstanding and you get two for $9. Plenty of crab meat in them they had a light and fluffy texture. The brie was okay. It was served with their house bread and ritz crackers. I found the cheese to be good but overpowered by all the fruit topping they added. Bread service: We had 1 tiny piece of French bread each with whipped butter. Meh, I have had better. Entrée: I opted for the duck with salad, wild rice and roasted vegetables. The salad was light and refreshing and lightly dressed. Topped with mushrooms and shredded carrot I liked it a lot especially the garlic vinaigrette it came with. The wild rice was a little gummy but eatable. The roasted vegetables were the star of the plate. Paying upwards of $30 for a plate of food that is a good and a bad thing. The duck was less than eatable. With duck I ONLY order it at high end restaurants. The reason is it is a difficult item to cook properly as you need to render down the fat under the skin. That did not happen here causing the skin to be gelatinous and the meat to be dry. I was really let down by this portion of my meal. The reason they still get high stars is the rest of the meal was really good and my friends loved their food. I would come back but order something less difficult. read more

I heard that people in Wisconsin like to go to supper clubs. I don't even know what those are. I watched a video and saw the person standing by a big A so by process of elimination I found out it was Alexanders. Old Fashion drinks with brandy are a thing here. I've never had one. The evening was evocative. Foggy in spite of the July 3rd date. Everything was green and lush. The vibe was happening. We walked into a full house. Great smells, laughter, happiness. They put us in the patio addition. It was pleasant. The only thing unpleasant were the really really loud drunks who were celebrating something. Everyone was staring and glaring at them, including the waiter. I couldn't believe they kept being served alcohol! They downed bottle after bottle of champagne on top of their cocktails. It was as if they were the only people in the entire place. They had no awareness that others were dining. That is not the restaurant's fault. People exhaled and almost applauded when they left. Our waiter was terrific. I wish I could remember his name. The food was fantastic. Would go again in a heartbeat. read more

My husband and I just had another outstanding meal here tonight! At the end of our vacation week, our memory of saving Alexander's for our last night did not disappoint! Everything was excellent, from the lemon drop martini, the shrimp cocktail, very fresh salad, raspberry dressing, broiled walleye, green bean medley, scalloped potatoes, and capped off with a fresh approach to tiramisu with a great coffee. The portions were just right & every bite so delicious! Even more outstanding was the lovely service by Erica, who genuinely wanted us to be happy with every aspect of our meal.
