I have a Siberian cat and I have been taking her to this groomer for multiple years and although the job does get done and the haircut always looks good, my cat always ends up coming back with bloody nipples and each time I ask for a lion cut and for them not to take anything off the tail but every time they trim the tail and make it look like a rat tail. my cats hair doesn't grow back that fast on her tail so she is just stuck with a ratty tail now. read more

My first impression of this business is that Alex is a poor or selective communicator who gives half-baked haircuts. Here's why I bothered to give two stars rather than just one: Upon entry of the business, the space was not inviting. I'm not one to criticize decor. What I will say is there was overflowing trash bins, crowded surfaces, and very little lighting. All that said, I've been to small businesses that were crowded, messy, and cramped but gave excellent service, so I pushed forward. After arriving at 8:30 AM and settling in, he took my cat out of the carrier, trimmed her claws, and confirmed that she was getting a Teddy Bear cut. I want to emphasize that there was no consultation, because it becomes relevant later on (reviewing her hair texture with me). He takes her to the back to make sure she's okay with the clippers for the sanitary trim, then tells me to come back at 11 AM. Based on his website and confirmation email, my understanding is that he works on one client at a time. So you might be able to understand my dismay and shock when I came back to my cat having a shotty Lion buzz cut. Her fur was patchy and uneven in a multitude of places, she still had leftover haircut hair clinging to her, and the transition between her neck and head was not blended well/was choppy. I STRAIGHT UP asked him "is this the Teddy Bear haircut?" And he said "Yes, it just looks different on her because her hair lays flat on her body, whereas most Persian cat's hair fluffs out." Here is where the consultation detail becomes so important to me: as a biracial woman, I'm no stranger to stylists who can't accommodate my hair texture or can only do specific things to it. So long as they CONSULT me first and give me reasonable expectations ahead of time, it's not an issue. In this case, what I DO have an issue with is someone straight up lying to my face as if I don't have eyes to see that you've cut my cat to have a lion's mane and tail. Had he been transparent from the start and said "hey, I don't think a teddy bear cut will work for her fur because of how the hairs lay on her body" I would have been happy to green-light the Lion cut. What's more insulting than giving my cat a haircut that I didn't ask for is doing a BAD JOB. If her fur wasn't uneven, if there wasn't loose hair still clinging to her after working on her for 2.5 HOURS?! Had he needed more time for finishing touches, I would have graciously obliged. The difference in haircut styles would be forgivable. I had to go home and pull out my hair shears to even out the spots that were choppy... which I really did not have time for today as I have other errands to run. In the end, I left two stars because 1. At least the haircut will keep her from getting dingle berries and 2. She loves the toys that were in her first-time client goodie bag. Alex is incapable of working with stressed cats, has 0 skill and will act like him wasting your time and effort is no big deal, but will not "tolorate" you being 6 minutes late, as his email signature will tell you. Even if they are on gabapentin Alex is unable to cope with a scary kitty cat :( 5 lbs of fur is too much for this man. I just picked my cat up from Alex today and cannot say I'd recommend him. I have a few nit picky things I could note, such as cleanliness of the place and rough handling right in front of me, cat carriers lined up all touching each other, etc. but most importantly, he gave my cat Capstar, a flea medication, without asking me. Also, he upcharged me $45 for that pill plus a "sanitary trim" that I did not ask for. The pill was because he found 3 or 4 fleas on my cat. After sorting through the lowest reviews on Google, I feel like a bad cat mom for not checking reviews before taking him. Please take a look yourself before considering Alex. Edit: Alex called me today to talk through things and offered me a refund on the up charges. He explained giving a flea medication if fleas are found is standard practice (which I still do not agree with), and also that a sanitary trim is standard for long haired cats. I suggest including that in the price then, rather than up charging for it. read more

I choose this groomer largely based on reviews. The reviews, however, did not accurately reflect what my experience was. Alex showed zero compassion or care, treating my 2 and 3 year old cats like they were parts on an assembly line. I wish I had stopped him after he cut the nails of my first cat. I was in shock and it was all over in two minutes. I didn't even have time to process how terrible of an experience it was until the ride home. Both of my cats soiled their carriers on the ride home which is something neither of them has ever done. This was a traumatic experience that I would not wish on anyone. read more

I have a 20 yo kitty whose claws are thick and were unfortunately too long when I attempted to trim them. I emailed Alex the Cat Groomer that evening and by 530a the next morning he was able to fit me in at 1p that day. Here I was thinking her claws were so thick and long that she might need light sedation in order to trim, when in fact it took all but 3 minutes for the wonderful worker to cut both front and back claws (I was even showed how to cut them properly so that I can do it at home!). Talk about wonderful service. I couldn't have asked for a smoother process for my senior kitty! It's a good thing when the worst of the entire trip was the 20 minute car ride to and from. Alex was fantastic! Our 18yo had some really bad matting that had just gotten too bad for us to handle. He had never seen a groomer before. We brought him in and Alex had him relaxed in his lap in two seconds, had all of his nails clipped in under a minute, and was completely unintimidated by how matted he was. I think lion cuts on cats look ridiculous, and my old guy is no exception, but he got every mat off without a single nick and our cat came home no more stressed than he left. Our cat has never been very good at grooming himself and as he ages he's even worse; if we need intervention again Alex will be our first call. We got the full bath and groom package and were hoping to give our long haired cat a bath and remove two areas of matting for her 1 year birthday. We usually give her baths ourselves without any issues, and would have just trimmed the mats off ourselves, but I got so excited to find a real cat groomer. I figured someone professional and branded as a cat whisperer could do better than us, *and* make my cat happy while grooming her. We specifically asked for a sanitary trim and to get rid of the mats, but Alex trimmed about half of my cat's fur off, around her entire body, and now she looks messy and scraggly. And, he also shaved her entire belly! She was so fluffy and soft before. When my partner went to pick my cat up, he read on a computer screen in Alex's notes that a MUZZLE was put on my cat, which Alex didn't disclose to us! This is not normal at all and I truly wonder what happened because our cat usually just stands in the bathtub and lets us bathe her. Our cat came back traumatized and months later she is still super skittish and most her hair still hasn't grown out. The stuff that's grown out isn't nearly as soft as before. I feel so sad and sorry to my cat that I had basically gone out of my way to get someone to hurt her and make her ugly. I wish I had closely read all the negative reviews before paying hundreds of dollars to cause harm to my cat. read more

Cut my cats nails down to tbe pulp almost and ripped a mat out of her hair ( easily cuttable) in front of me violently almost certainly just because he was having a bad day. Do not take your cat here, if you do be prepared for him to hurt your cat in some way like he has done in the past with not only me but others in his reviews. Would not suggest this place for a first timer. Unfortunately, we had driven quite a way for our first time grooming appointment. We had a scheduled appointment and had our card on file. Our cat was picked up and the groomer started clipping my cats nails (in his office chair) Instantly my cat hissed. The groomer mentioned that my cat might not be a good candidate. The groomer then adjusted my cat and grabbing my cat harshly. The groomer mentioned my cat needed a muzzle. After walking to the back room with my cat, I heard another loud hiss. The groomer walked back instantly and said he couldn't work with my cat. We were there all but 5 minutes. My cat is a 6month old kitten. I've never seen him this upset before. I brought my cat here just for a stomach shave to remove some mats that I was unable to detangle. When I arrived there were multiple cats in carriers on the ground in the lobby area right next to each other waiting for services and he was trimming cats nails at the front desk. He did not ask for any information about my cat before sending her back to get shaved. The assistant let me know that my cat had peed in the carrier but they didn't wipe off my cat at all and shaved her with the pee on her fur. The shaving area was not clean and the hand washing area was in a kitchen that was super messy with dishes and food out. The whole experience felt like they were rushing to get through as many cats as possible even though I made an appointment. After getting home, I bathed my cat since she was covered in pee and realized that they also did not remove any of the fur that they shaved off from her body. Too rough and careless. Our cat went in for a 3 hour appointment to get groomed. I'm not even sure why it takes that long to trim one cat. Our cat is especially skittish. After we picked him up, he looked like he was sitting in his carrier for a long time. And he definitely seemed spooked. When we got home, we noticed several of his whiskers on one side were cut. He ended up wobbly for a week or two after getting groomed. I suspected, before reading some of the bad reviews, that he is simply not gentle with cats. Instead, he just brute-forces them to comply. If I could give six stars I would. Amazing cat groomer! Quick, to the point, straight forward, safe, and everything I could ask for in-between. I have an extremely aggressive cat when it comes to grooming. He is the sweetest thing before and after but grooming is not his vibe. After being 86'd from two "franchise" groomers I had multiple referrals to Alex, and after seeing his website mentioning he can "deal with the feistiest of kitties" I figured the worst that would happen at this point for my furry kitty is he would turn us away. Thankfully, he did not! Even after my cat hissed and cried through the initial consultation. When I picked my cat up he said that he's allowed to come back which was a sigh of relief and the results have been amazing! I've waited two days to post a review and the shedding is down 80% and his sanitary clip + paw trim (for litter tracking) has satisfied everything I was looking for. My cat left here with bloody paws and a shattered back leg - her leg was so badly broken the orthopedic surgeon said they could not repair it with plates and screws. Traumatically, she had to have her leg amputated. Update on this - my cat had to be put down shortly after her amputation due to complications. She never quite recovered, and started having seizures. We took 2 of our cats for grooming. We were excited about getting them groomed based on the reviews. They were nice enough to accomodate both cats although we had reservation for only one. But we were sorely disappointed for a few reasons: - Very bad shaving ; left pink spots on the cats - Was not gentle in handling the cats - It's a black box once you leave the cats there. Alex was amazing! I was able to get both my cats groomed at the same time which was extremely convenient to be able to drop them off at the same time instead of separately. Both my cats struggle with grooming but Alex gave the okay with bringing them back and he did such a good job on the teddy bear cut and lion cut. We not only took our matted long haired farm cat SAM to Alex and were blown away at how Sam quietly laid on his back while Alex trimmed his nails (Sam would never let us do that although we tried several times) and looked amazing in his new Lion Cut when we picked him up BUT after that fabulous experience we also took in our OLD 18 year old cat MOCHA who lived alone upstairs and was afraid of her own shadow and she too had a great experience and lived through it, looks fabulous in her Lion Cut and is acting WAY more assertive and happy now that she is mat free and beautiful. Mocha is totally demanding of our attention now and is acting years younger. Both cats LOVE their new hair style and we do too. It's so hard to find good cat groomers. We used to go to a place in Greenwood but her last haircut was SO terrible, it looked like a couple of bored teenagers got high and decided to shave our cat... Not only is he friendly and professional but I love how he gives you a welcome treat bag the first time you are a customer there and he has free stickers on his desk for his clients' owners.
