As a bbq fan as an eater and as a cook who does the hard work myself, I can tell you the folks at Brickyard do a very good job making Texas BBQ. I always order moist brisket when I am new to a place and I also ask for three baby back ribs. My ribs were very tender, moist and had a nice smoke flavor. No need for sauce, I did not use any because I am watching my sugar intake, dam doctors. Anyway, the brisket just pulled apart so easily. Oh and it was so good! Lots of great smoke flavor. I asked if they made the coleslaw, and they said everything is made from scratch at their restaurant. I believe them. The coleslaw tasted just like what I make at home. Yes I make coleslaw at home it part of the sugar intake issue, have I said doctors and blood tests are getting in the way of my life yet? Well I eat BBQ anyway. Life is to short. I took the 30 bus out here, almost a decade before Via service to St. Hedwig was eliminated. I always found the BBQ mid and not as good as Rudy's but better than Bill Miller's. I made the long drive out here the 2nd time when I got my car. Still not impressed. A year ago I came here to try their fish for their weekly fish fry on Fridays. I got 2 pieces of fish, 2 sides and a Dr Pepper but was disappointed with the size of the fish pieces. What's worse is the $20 price that I foolishly wasted when I could've gotten better fish from Laguna Madre and I don't even like that place. I mean who in their right mind goes to a BBQ place for fish? And the last time I came here wasn't any different. The brisket was dry and the sausage and turkey were mid. The creamed corn was ok and the pinto beans weren't hot enough. Oh and the last 2 times I ate here, they were out of my favorite item and the only good thing they serve here, the peach cobbler. Instead I got the banana pudding which was just like those crappy, pre-made banana pudding cups found at any roadside chain gas station/convenience store like Buc-ee's or The Texan. It is roomy and spacious inside and the seating consists of picnic tables designed for crowds of people and has live music on the weekends. When you pull up to the restaurant there's a storefront reminiscent of an old Western film with a 7up logo. Texas Pride is one of those overhyped and overrated BBQ joints that probably used to be good in its heyday which was probably back in the mid 90s to 2000s but then fell off drastically somewhere along the line. Do your appetite and wallet a favor and bypass TP BBQ and make the extra drive to La Vernia and go to Rabel's off FM 775 and FM 1346 and thank me later!

Around here, service isn't a one-person job, everybody seems to pitch in. After looking over the menu, I settled on the 20-ounce porterhouse with a baked potato loaded with all the fixin's. While I waited, I took in the dining room. The walls are covered with ranch brands and names from all over Texas, reminding you this place is proud of its roots. Around me were families celebrating birthdays, grandparents visiting with grandkids, and couples enjoying supper together. The long picnic-style tables are made for passing plates and making memories, and that's exactly what folks were doing. When my steak hit the table, it arrived still sizzling on a silver platter beside that loaded baked potato. One bite told me everything I needed to know. The porterhouse was tender, juicy, and packed with beefy flavor. Truth be told, it didn't need a drop of steak sauce, though bottles of A.1. and Heinz 57 are there if that's your thing. The waitress checked on me throughout the meal despite leaving an entire pitcher of sweet tea within arm's reach, making sure I never wanted for anything. Little Red Barn isn't trying to compete with those high-dollar steakhouses where the steaks cost as much as a truck payment. Instead, it sticks to what Texans appreciate: generous portions, honest prices, friendly service, and steaks that'll have you scraping the plate clean. That's probably why it's remained a San Antonio tradition for so many years, and why I'll keep coming back every chance I get.

The turkey is always flavorful and juicy and just the right portion for a satisfying lunch. The BBQ sauce that comes with it has the perfect amount of spice, and the pinto beans have a nice smoky BBQ flavor that pairs really well with the meal. Today I decided to add a couple of extra sides and tried the creamed corn and the green beans. The creamed corn is probably one of the best I've ever had because it's super creamy, cheesy, and full of flavor. The green beans are cooked with pieces of bacon and are very well seasoned. They were good, though not my personal favorite compared to the other sides.
