Love this store!! Fantastic customer service, super low prices, insanely clean, great produce! To the reviewers complaining about paying a quarter for a cart (which you get back when you put your cart away), the checkers sitting down, or bagging your own groceries- get over yourself. This store is modeled on the original stores in Germany where it is customary for checkers to sit and for people to bag their own stuff. If you are too lazy to bag your own groceries or walk back to the door to put your cart away, go to another store and pay higher prices with crappy customer service. But for me bagging my own stuff is a small price to pay for excellent customer service, low prices, and a clean store. Will never go back! This was my first time there, and couldnt get a shopping cart as they were locked. When going and asking about it, was told i had to put a quarter in but would get it back when I returned the cart. First of all I didnt have a quarter!!!! They had to loan me one (I do everything by ATM card). The said that I would get it back when returning the cart. They didnt say how to lock the cart up again though. Sooooooooooo, they stuck me into paying for bags for my groceries, and then had to bag them myself. I had bags in my car, so if they told me that they don't bag anything, I could have skipped their bags, and used my own when I got to the car. I am handicapped and they think I should walk all the way back from my car to get the quarter back??? I think not!!! I dont care about the quarter, it is just the idea of the thing. With all of their hidden charges, why go there to save? They have off brands, nothing good. Produce not too bad. Not enough savings to make it worth going from Thousand Oaks to Simi for this kind of service. I WILL NOT GO BACK! I will continue with Ralphs, Vons & Stater Bros. First got introduced to Aldi's in Niagara Falls, NY and in Michigan. Stores are smaller than a regular grocery store and have mostly house brand items but the prices are generally pretty good. I was happy to hear Simi was getting an Aldi's store and this one does not disappoint. It is new, so very clean and the employees are friendly and helpful. read more

This was my first visit to ALDI in the US though I have been to some in Europe. I wasn't disappointed. It's not a luxury store but a practical store that mostly sells its own brands for less... not due to a lack of quality but to cut out the middle man and offer goods at a fairer price. The majority of their own brand food does keep the petro-chemical food coloring out of their food - a must for kids sensitive to artificial food colors. I like the incentive to return shopping carts as it minimizes risk to damaging cars and having to get out of your car to move a shopping cart that is blocking the available spot and even when I didn't have a spare quarter they offered one for free. Friendly, accommodating staff and a relaxed shopping environment. All in all, a store not too dissimilar to Fresh and Easy but with a slightly German flair. read more

If you are looking for for great prices and a great selection this is the place. However you have to be willing to deal with a very unorthodox approach on shopping. Bring your own bags because they will charge you. You have to bag your own groceries . Kind of like a Food 4 less. Also to get a shopping cart you need to pay 25cents for a loaner cart. I really wanted to like this store. I really want them to do well here in Simi, however I wasn't impressed. I can get over the quarter for a shopping cart, and even having to bag my own groceries. But so many brands I have never heard of, I really didn't know what I was getting. The meat didn't look very good and produce left me unimpressed. However, canned goods - prices can't be beat! ALDI in Simi Valley is very similar to Fresh and Easy. It is NOT Ralphs or Vons. If that is what you expect, then ALDI is not for you. ALDI prices were very good. Much lower than Ralphs or Vons. You will not see many name brands in the store. Most of the products are private label. I wish though, ALDI had more international products. Yes, you can find cheaper prices at Valley Produce or Vallarta, but I know many people that will not shop in Valley Produce because of the meat section (They sell many parts of the animal). Went here over the weekend. Glad I did! Couldn't believe how much I got for such low low prices! Clean, organized, well stocked and friendly. I love Aldi! Not only are their prices amazing, they have a great selection of produce, and healthy and gluten free options but I also can get in and out of the store in ten minutes. This place is a gem everyone needs to discover the ridiculous low prices on high quality meats and fresh veggies and fruits. They have great prices on milk and eggs. Beef hotdogs for a dollar. Every Wednesday they have a 1 day special offers on meats and steaks. I stocked up and bought 3 paks of chicken drums for $1.25 when they were$3.63 originally. They also have a good selection of gluten free products of which I have to have. They also have a cart rental... You put a quarter in the gadget on the handle and release the chain attached to cart ahead, when you are checked out and return cart to front of store, lock it up again and get quarter back. I drive from the east San Fernando Valley to shop at Aldi's about once a month. I love the imported items from Germany. However, do not expect this to be a full on grocery store. If you are looking for high end store then this is not the place. The store is clean and very organized. read more

In general I like Aldi a lot but this store needs better management from what I saw. Went there yesterday Monday 2PM and their frozen was way out of stock, refrigerated needed attention as well. Excellent! Aldi shows what can be done when a store is looking out for the customer rather than big companies. Other supermarkets have crazy markups and are always playing games to lure you in for name brands that don't mean much. Aldi is straightforward. Everything is geared towards efficiency and keeping the overhead low, which translates to incredibly low prices. Quality and taste of their food is great. It will take a while for people used to the gimmicks of other supermarket chains to discover Aldi, but it will happen. Employees are polite, well-groomed, responsive, knowledgeable and cheerful. I just wish the store was a little closer to me. I hope they open more locations faster in California. We desperately need one in Thousand Oaks. You hear that Aldi! read more

Aldi is the best place to shop if you want to save money on groceries while getting quality food and having a pleasant shopping experience. The store is always perfectly clean and usually well-stocked. Occasionally they are low on certain produce items. The selection is not as large as what some stores offer, but that makes it easier to get in and out. The checkers are unbelievably fast and always seem to be in a good mood. I have returned a couple of things with the Aldi guarantee and it's always been painless. I particularly like to buy cereal, milk, eggs, frozen fruit and vegetables, tofu, hummus, guacamole, pretzels, corn chips, tortillas, Indian sauces, flour, sugar, cheese crackers, and cheese here. The Mamma Cozzi's frozen pizza is almost as good as DiGiorno and the cereals taste identical to the name-brand counterparts. The produce isn't as cheap or as varied as Valley Marketplace, but the shopping experience is so much better. Basically, Aldi is a great place to save on staple grocery items, but they also have some specialty items (sriracha, green sauce, curry) and rotating special finds. I don't mind the 25 cent cart rental fee or bagging my own groceries to get such great prices and fast service. I'm so glad this place is in Simi! read more

Finally an Aldi in Ventura County!! It does everything I know Aldi does and it does it well. I feel for the employees that have to explain customers how to use a shopping cart. Bottom line, if you get upset about bringing your shopping cart back and putting your groceries in a bag yourself: Don't come here. Go to any other store. If you appreciate the prices and the simplicity Aldi offers you will probably like it here. If a cashier being allowed to sit on a chair at the register while ringing up your stuff ruins your day, don't come here. If you like lots of organic and gluten free products that are sourced directly from the manufacturer and therefore very affordable, you might just love this place. Comparing this store either to the dollar store or some fancy grocery store is pretty stupid. Giving this store 1 stars for being exactly what it does in locations across the country and the globe is just dumb. If their concepts hurt your feelings, please stay away. I'm waiting for the day where all the snobby people are done being surprised about the Aldi concepts and either ignore it or embrace it. We might have to endure a few more silly reviews until then. Not impressed, they carry their own brands which is the same quality as the 99cent store. The exception here is that Aldi will charge $1.49 for a knockoff box of cereal but at the .99 cent store you buy it for under a buck. Waste of time. Limited items, poor customer service. read more

Ok-I will give it one start for the employees-all very nice and professional and friendly. And one more star for being very clean and orderly. However-to me it was nothing but a larger version of the debunked and now gone Fresh and Easy. It advertises gluten free but that seemed limited to nothing but cookies and bread. It advertises organic produce but the organic section is as big and limited as my work desk. It is just another stark, too brightly lit by florescent lights box store full of mainstream items not much different than you would find at an old Albertsons. Unpleasant to shop in. I should have known by the logo alone, really. I am sorry but Simi did not need yet another one of these types of stores. We are on overload with them-this fading kind of store that does not really meet the modern consumer needs for health and wellness. So many of us long for a Whole Foods but will settle for the long awaited Sprouts that is coming this summer. Pavillions has more gluten free and organic than this as Trader Joe's and Lassens so I will stick with them plus my trips to the Thousand Oaks Whole Foods. But I guess those who just want to save money and buy large amounts of non organic produce (locally grown is great but that does not mean it is without pesticides) and run-of-the-mill items like frozen pizza, big cans of stuff, etc. it is fine but I have no intention of returning. My health and my family deserve better than these types of grocery stores in this day and age. Very disappointed in Simi Valley lately. They have made so many poor decisions with what businesses go in keeping things very sub-par and behind the times. It was bad enough we got not one but two Walmarts AND a Walmart grocery store. Most of the negative reviews I noticed are due to issues around bagging your own groceries, giving a quarter deposit for your cart and a seated cashier. My response to that is "Are you serious?????" There is a reason that their prices are low. They are a no frills, no fuss, no muss store with quality items. I have been to the store about four times and have yet to be disappointed in anything that I have purchased. Between this place and going to the farmers market (which I will never give up) I am good! I have saved sooooo much money on the items I regularly buy. As a parent, this is priceless. If you want all the bells and whistles, go to a regular grocery store and pay 2-3x as much for the same items. Oh yeah....the customer service I have experienced has been stellar each and every trip. If you shop carefully, you can get similar deals at fully stocked grocery stores like Stater Bros. Tried it once, and the 'off' brands don't compare to the 'off' brands at the big Grocery stores. We see no reason to come back. read more

I visited the Simi Valley store last night, just to see how it compared with the Aldi's I am familiar with in Melbourne, Australia (my family used to shop there). Be warned: don't buy their "fresh" meat or produce; Melbourne Aldi's had MANY complaints of customers getting sick (this included my family members). The store in Simi Valley is very stark, no music, too brightly lit, no warmth AT ALL. It feels like you're walking into an abandoned warehouse that has been stocked with cheap products. Last night, a store clerk was chatting with someone outside; fewer than four people were shopping inside. It was such a dreary scene, I truly believe that the Simi Valley Aldi's location will not make it one year. read more

Bought some of their ice cream. Thought it would be like Dryers, but at a much cheaper price. Unfortunately, it tasted more like ice milk. Took both of them back. Came to $4.58. Was told I would get a refund plus I could pick put up to $4.58 for free. Such a deal. I found 4 items that totaled $4.51 and brought them to the cashier. She didn't know how to handle the transaction so she called over a manager and he picked out 2 of the items and handed them to me. I asked about the other 2 and he said "only one item per return." The worst part about that was the cashier then told him "I told that to the customer before he went re -shopping ." Please don't tell lies right in front of me just because I'm a senior citizen. If she would have actually told me that, I would not have shown up with 4 items. I would have found 2 itens around $2 29 each, the price of the ice cream. I was in retail all of my working career, so I know they should have just given me the items. It is not the money, but the principle. Will give them another chance read more
