I've stopped at Aldi in Texas and enjoyed the variety this grocer has to offer. When I came across this store while visiting in Simi Valley Calif there was one located by my hotel. I had a kitchenette so I grabbed a few things for my stay.

ALDI is dedicated to low priced groceries. It presents a warehouse feel with their own name brands, but lacks the quirky fun of Trader Joe's. What it lacks in pizzazz or atmosphere, Dear Hubby (the grocery shopper in the family) shares that he likes to buy the staples there as they have the best prices. We went in to get cookie-making supplies, but haven't tried their store brands yet. There's a warehouse feel to the place. It's the kind of no frills environment I don't really enjoy. They do get the job done for basic items, but you may not walk away with a warm fuzzy feeling. Bring your own bags, and expect to be your own bagger. Dear Hubby says that he's impressed with the quality of their items, and knows how to negotiate his way around. Go, DH!

If you haven't tried delivery by Aldi (Instacart), you are missing out!! The fruits and veggies I got were was less expensive and much better quality than a traditional grocery store. I ended up with 5 bags of groceries (including 4 packs of Foster Farms chicken) for $80. BEST PART - delivered to my house in less than 2 hours! Love this! Totally going to become my #1 store!

I bought this crofton wood server. The original color is shiny mocha brown. I went home and hand washed it and this is what I look like after.

ALDI is a bit different type of shopping experience, but we like it nonetheless. First, you need a quarter to get a shopping cart. (I'm guessing this ensures you'll return it and not leave it stranded in the parking lot... or cart it off down the road if you're homeless.) Second, you pack your own bags after you've paid. Bit different from other markets, but a smart way to save money on baggers. There is tons of parking at this location. It's new, clean, and well kept. The selection is great and the PRICES are amazing. We save lots of money by stopping here each week. The employees are nice and the food is fresh for the most part (be sure to check expirations, however, like at every market). We enjoy ALDI! 4 stars!

An economical way to shop foods, but not my top choice. The service is okay and looks like an Aldi. Clean atmosphere.

    Ask the Community - ALDI

Is Aldi affiliated with Trader Joe's, like it in Chicago?

Yes, more or less. Aldi was founded by Karl Albrecht who gave the company to his two sons Theo and Karl jr. The two brothers split the company in Germany in Aldi North and Aldi South. In the US, Aldi belongs to Aldi South whereas Trader Joe's… Read more

I'm so glad Simi Valley was able to offer this place, I was getting so tire of having to go to Trader Joe's, Vallarta, Jons, walmart.

The music is extremely loud--honestly overwhelming--especially if you're there with kids. It made it really hard to enjoy any kind of conversation with my family, and even harder to communicate with the employees (I could barely hear them, and they struggled to hear us too). The space itself is big, with lots of booths and chairs, which is nice--but surprisingly, there's no bathroom at all. We had to walk to Vallarta twice with our kids, which was super inconvenient. As for the food, we ordered three mangonadas--they were good, but not spicy at all if that's what you're expecting. My son didn't really like his vanilla ice cream, but my other son loved his Oreo blue popsicle. Overall, I'm giving a low score mainly because of the uncomfortable noise level. It really takes away from the experience when you can't talk to your company or properly interact with staff. I'd consider coming back if the volume was turned way down.
