My youngest daughter, a middle schooler, and I arrived just before noon. The restaurant is spacious inside with many seatings. We were seated right away and served ice water, which tasted wonderfully fresh with a hint of lemon. We filled out the order sheet and handed it back to our waiter. Our food arrived in about 15 minutes, which I thought was a reasonable wait considering the dumplings are made fresh to order. What we ordered: Pork Xiao Long Bao (XLB) This is the signature dish, and I was told it's often compared directly to Din Tai Fung (DTF). My verdict? I like both, but I don't think they're an apples-to-apples comparison. Each excels in its own way. Dumpling Shack's XLB are plump, with thicker, firmer skins. I wouldn't describe them as tough or particularly chewy because they're actually quite easy to bite through. And let me tell you, some of us Chinese folks genuinely prefer this kind of texture! I also suspect the flour used here is less processed, although I can't say that for certain. I enjoy DTF's soup dumplings too, but the two have a different feel and appeal. Dumpling Shack's filling is flavorful, and the soup is delicious. My daughter declared, "I like the soup and flavor of these dumplings even better than DTF!" She has excellent taste in both food and fashion, so I take her opinions seriously. Still, I can't pick a winner. They're different, and both are excellent in their own ways. Sticky Rice Wrap The meat was tender, and the whole thing was packed with flavor. I just wished there had been a little more for the price. That said, I understand the cost of living around here, so I'll leave it at that. Steamed Pork Ribs Flavorful, though I would have appreciated a little more tenderness. We would have tried some of their drinks, too, but it was a bit too cold for iced boba today. They looked great, though, and plenty of other customers were ordering them. Overall, we really enjoyed our first visit and already have a few other dishes on our list for next time. My daughter did have one question for the kitchen: "Why don't they have dan dan noodles?"
