This is a great example of an Aldi. Fresh produce, coffee, deli meat, cheese, and pickles and I was all set to make myself a lovely couple of meals at the office and avoid fast food, for at least the short term :-) There are things at Aldi that are just quality items for a lower cost than other grocery store. Cheese and meat and produce come immediately to mind. They are the go to place for charcuterie board building. The prices at Aldi are low of a lot of things, but I think it averages out. They are well stocked in what they provide, and you can typically find your Aldi items and get into the line to check out fairly quickly...and then wait for an hour to get through the checkout lane. Ha! Having multiple checkout lanes doesn't mean that they have the staff to man them. Only one was open on my visit, and ahead of my small handful of items were folks with grocery carts spilling over the top. So yeah. They are a popular store for the cost conscious, but they don't seem to be popular enough to hire or retain enough people to handle the crowd. read more

deserved the 3 star review. not sure what i was thinking going but i was not impressed. the staff were snarky, and the produce was not fresh. most of the bread was moldy and stale. the cereal isle was messy, and there were MULTIPLE open boxes of cereal sitting on the shelves. would not recommend. read more

The store can get really busy, especially on weekends, but the line is never too long and they always have a cashier open to help keep things moving. I recently experienced the twice as nice guarantee. I bought bottle of salad dressing and put in my pantry. About a week or two later when I went to use the bottle had bloated so badly it looked like it would explode. The bottle had never been opened. I took it back on my next trip to Aldi to exchange. The cashier gave me a new bottle. And then much to my surprise, she also refunded my purchase. All I really wanted was a new bottle to replace the defective bottle, but she insisted she needed to give me the money back as well since this was part of the twice as nice guarantee. We live close to an Aldi's so we usually go there, but we were in the area so we decided to check this place out. This new location is spacious with plenty of parking spots! They have a BUNCH of items, but not a very wide selection of the things that we wanted. You can never go wrong with their fruits and veggies. The cantaloupe we got was so sweet and good! I don't frequent this Aldi much but I do enjoy going here for the self checkout registers and I like how big the store feels due to the building it took over. Overall, it is a pretty standard Aldi and has all of the usual offerings though. I will say, the layout of this store is kind of off and some things that are in the same general area as most Aldi's are in completely different places. Yes I shop at Aldi, judge me all you want. I'm not ashamed of buying generic to save some cash. I admit that not all their products are stellar and their produce is hit or miss. But my plan of attach lately has been to swing through Aldi, grab cheap basics and then head across the street for Hy-vee if I need something Aldi doesn't carry. Aldi carries a lot, they have the basics then they also carry toiletries and some household items too. Some products I like are their chocolate peanut butter protein bars, organic soy milk, canned goods, dried fruit, frozen fruit. They have this "Fit & Lean" brand that's great for health conscious people. Occasionally they have some brand name items on sale, like Jennie O turkey for $3.50, that's about $1.50 off depending where you shop. If you come to Aldi, bring a quarter with you to unlock a shopping cart, this isn't a badge you earn. They literally lock up their shopping carts. Insert a quarter to unlock and then lock it back up and you get your quarter back. Bring CASH or a Debit Card as they don't accept credit cards. Then also remember your own grocery bags (they don't have any). Yes it might seem odd, but hey they pass down the savings so that makes me happy. On average I save about $12-18 at Aldi as opposed to going to a store like Hy-vee and getting the same stuff. read more

A great place to pick up staples unless you're needing items for specific recipes. They have really great deals on featured items each week like a hammock, steamer, etc. Though many items are well priced, Sprouts tend to beat the prices for some fruits and veggies. Cheese and dairy well priced along with most breads/bagels. The pie fillings are better than the name brands which we use in crepes and dump cake. I don't typically get a cart so only buy what fits in the reusable bag I bring with me. I find it interesting whereby the male checkers won't load your groceries directly in your bag but most of the female checkers are helpful with that. read more

As I'm pushing my cart away, I hear the next comment to the couple behind me " now I see normal people". As i come back to exchange the eggs she just grabed the eggs and thanked me for letting her know the eyes were brought from the fridge broken. OK, I've tried Aldi's twice now - the one further east on 135th, and now this one. This one seems slightly better...but not by much. Aldi's just isn't for me, and I don't understand how people can do all of their shopping here. It's full of a bunch of junk, and the rare "find". So yeah, some of the products here are good. We got a package of assorted crackers that went very well with even good cheese. They have a few name brands here for decent prices. Otherwise, some of the stuff is okay, and a lot of it is crap. Fruits and veggies seem disappointing. Most of the food here is so ridiculously unhealthy that the trade off for cheapness will come back in the cost of weight loss surgeries down the road. The people here aren't all that friendly either. I don't like Aldi. No thank you. read more

This is my go to store for groceries. I really enjoy shopping here because everything is so affordable. The only thing I would have to say is that they don't carry too many things. This store is located within half a mile of Hen House and .25 mile of Price for Less and 3 miles of Hyvee. It's a very competitive area but it is the customer service that sets this store apart from the others. I love that they now accept all major credit cards (AMEX, VISA, Discover, MC). They also sell gift cards! One time, I purchased a jar of jam which was their name brand item and when I opened it it looked old so instead of trying it I took it back and I was offered their double guarantee (my money back and replacement of their product). You can't go wrong with 100% satisfaction of over 15,000 of their products. All their cashiers are fast and friendly. I feel appreciated when I shop there. If I have been wandering around the store looking for an item but I can't find it, I am always happy to locate a worker who gladly walks me to the location of the product. If the product is unavailable, the manager gladly directs me to another Aldi store. The prices are incredible. An average $200 cart at Hen House costs $85 at Aldi. Price for Less is a joke because although they are less than Hen House the quality and price cannot equal Aldi. Walmart is nearby but their long lines, unhappy employees and poor customer service are not worth it. read more

I have been an Aldi shopper for many years. I was super excited when the Olathe location re opened in a bigger brighter location closer to my home. Now if only it would stay stocked so I could buy my groceries. I have shopped 2-4 Times per month since they have opened and have yet to leave without feeling frustrated due to multiple items being out of stock. This Aldi is across Santa Fe (135th St.) from a big Hy-Vee, and within a few blocks you can also find Price Chopper, Hen House and Walmart, as well as a couple of dollar stores. So this is a great area for thrifty food shoppers -- if you shop sales and use coupons you can hit all the major stores without having to drive all over town wasting gas and time! For those who don't know Aldi, it's a German store that's owned by the same company as Trader Joe's. Aldi's works very much like Trader Joe's -- it sells store brands almost exclusively and there's only one choice of any item, which helps keep prices very low. The difference is that Aldi's primarily sells supermarket basics, while TJ's carries more "gourmet" items. However, Aldi also has some surprising items -- they have a selection of excellent store brand European chocolates that rival any of the name brands. There are often imported German treats in the freezer cases, especially around Christmas, when they load up like all the other stores! This year they had a superb "butter stollen" (not frozen) that was absolutely delicious! This store is a bit larger than the Aldi at 135th and Antioch and has a bit larger selection of Mexican food items, reflecting the demographics of Olathe. Although virtually everything is store brand, everything I've bought there is excellent quality. My mom loves Aldi's, too, and swears that their Bisquik baking mix equivalent is better than the original! Items like milk and cream cheese are very reasonably priced -- their reduced fat cream cheese is usually 99 cents, nearly a dollar cheaper than the other stores! As for milk, they have several varieties, including lactose-free. Since I Iive on my own I find myself using instant coffee a lot, and theirs is about $3.70 for an 8 ounce jar. And it's good! Corned beef hash for breakfast is one of my guilty pleasures, and theirs is also very well priced. (This one is a teensy bit bland, but a little seasoned salt and some pepper added while it's cooking makes it perfectly fine!) Aldi's carries basic selections of baking products, produce, some meats and cheese, frozen stuff, etc. One frustrating thing is that some of those are only carried seasonally. For example, they had some incredibly reasonable packages of frozen bay scallops that were marked seasonal, so I bought several. Sure enough, they've now disappeared. They also had a very good frozen eggplant parm that's also gone to wherever it is discontinued Aldi items go! Finally, there are always specials on houseware items -- usually mystery brands but good quality. I recently got a great stainless steel stock pot/spaghetti cooker with a steamer insert and all for a give-away price. Today I noticed they had a very nice looking espresso machine for $66 or so. It would probably be $235 at one of the more posh stores! If you like Costco or Sam's Club and their store brands you're going to like Aldi. It's particularly useful for singles or older people who want to save money but don't want to buy in the large quantities you're often forced to at the big box discounters. I do buy some stuff at those big stores if it's an item I'll use pretty quickly, like canned tomato products or canned corn. But for stuff I'll use less frequently Aldi is a great option! If you haven't been, check it out -- you'll be pleasantly surprised! There's a reason Aldi is so insanely popular in Europe! It's hard to beat the combination of good products at great prices! Oh -- to keep prices down they only take cash and debit cards. They don't bag your purchases (but you can buy inexpensive reusable shopping bags in the store). And you have to insert a quarter in a slot to get a shopping cart (you get the quarter back when you return the cart). read more

Sign said rugs 19.99 slashed through 13.99. Rang up 19.99. Cashier said IT WAS LAST WEEKS SALE. Called for a price check. He said they put that rugs in that 19.99 box because they RAN OUT OF SPACE. They should have gotten their story straight. Then he went on to explain about checking code etc, There was no code on the sale sign to check. From there it just got more stupid. It's a great place, cheap and good sub statues for most items, though one or two I do like. I have shopped there for years, MOST things are great, a few products I didn't care for, but over all is a must shopping stop in my families grocery budget. From the chips to soda, the brands there are just as good and far more affordable than any where else. The produce and health food section is expanding weekly, so enjoy your trip there, and savings is well worth it! read more
