    Grilled salmon from the deli

I stopped in the deli today to grab something quick. They had grilled salmon! I asked the deli clerk--okay, tell me about the salmon. It can't be all that. He said, it's delicious. It flies off the "shelf" and we sell out each time we have it...a guy in the seafood department will come over and grill or smoke the salmon. He's the best in KC. $7 and some change and I had a huge piece of beautiful grilled salmon with a lemon wedge. AND IT WAS AMAZING!! Just as good as the salmon I've had at fancy restaurants. Highly recommend.

    Vidalia Sweet Onions!

McKeever's Price Chopper (Lenexa) has onions stacked on a floor-standing cardboard display case with bright colorful VIDALIA SWEET ONION advertising on it. Unfortunately, the onions in the display were NOT Vidalias. I mentioned to the product manager, and he told me they were sweet onions, and he was just using the Vidalia box. Vidalia is not a generic name for sweet onion, it's a trademarked name and only available for onions from certain counties in Georgia. Vidalia onions are always from GA and always labeled with Vidalia onion stickers. The onions in the "Vidalia's bin" were from Nevada and Washington! I thought it reflected a general lack of integrity and a willingness to infringe on someone else's trademark, not to mention mislead some of their customers.

Middle management on weekdays too immature to notice needs of customers while flirting with younger staff.

I wish it was around when I was living in the area. I would definitely be a regular customer! I visited on a quiet Tuesday afternoon, and the store was organized, neat, and easy to navigate, which was a lovely start. I had two main items on my mission: grabbing the Back to Nature Peanut Butter Creme Crackers (a snack I became obsessed with after a trip to New York!) and picking up a specific protein powder for my mom, which was on a great Buy One, Get One 50% Off deal. However, the real highlight was the service, thanks to Dahlia, a head cashier employee who stopped to help us. Dahlia was incredibly kind and went above and beyond. She walked us through the free rewards program, explaining not only how to find coupons but also detailing a huge deal: if you buy $100 or more in health & beauty products (including that protein powder!) within a three-month span, you will be able to get 30% off your next purchase. She explained that the purchases history for this deal resets after the three months are up. She even took the time to offer personalized recommendations, sharing her own experience with thinning and oily hair and suggesting specific shampoo and conditioner products for me to try. After Dahlia helped me with the rewards sign-up, I checked out with a different cashier. This cashier was also super nice; she knew I was setting up the account and proactively made sure I either entered my phone number or had my rewards barcode scanned before I paid, guaranteeing I got my points for that trip. The service didn't end there! I had a $3 off coupon for the protein powder that wouldn't go through due to the store's poor cell service/Wi-Fi connection. Dahlia, without hesitation, simply gave me $3 back in cash to honor the coupon deal--that is truly above and beyond customer service. I highly recommend this location! The product selection is great, and the atmosphere is pleasant, but the staff--especially Dahlia--is what makes this store shine.

This review is based solely off of their sushi section…read more I have been going to this hen house since I was in highschool (over 10+ years) solely for this women's sushi. Every Wednesday they run a special for 5.55 rolls. Back a couple of years ago, the cashier there told me the lady who makes their sushi has been doing so for years - even turning down opportunities to start her own restaurant. She's super friendly and very accommodating to requests. The sushi rice is perfectly cooked and the flavor is always on point for me. Extremely consistent as well and I believe on par with other sushi restaurants. For a little over 5 bucks, I'm always satisfied.

I wound up here hunting for Keto friendly meal bars. The price for the good ones is $3 higher than our grocery near home, which...you know...hard to swallow so to speak. So, failing in my hunting, I wandered over to the salad bar, and decided to make a lunch and take it back with me to the office. After finding enough fresh yummy goodies to fill a plastic box, I was expecting a tasty but pricy weigh-in at the counter. (They weigh the salad, not the shopper, in case you were worried). "Do you have a Hen House Card?" "Sure do, although It's probably from years ago... well ok, that worked..." "The salad bar is still on sale, so here you go." Boom. I got out of there for $6 for a similar salad I put together at JCCC for $9 the other day. With the money saved, I could get those keto bars! Except no. I'll really get them next time we do our shopping for home. But still! What a deal! I'm happy. I'm full. I have change in my pocket. There were next to no carbs in my salad choices, so I bet I can eat an entire cookie cake when I get home! Except not, but I can dream a little. Maybe if the cookie cake is $3 off and they forgot to put in the sugar...and the flour...and anything that's good and tasty.... What was I talking about? Like the salad bar! Good and tasty and affordable!
