The staff is wonderful and cares a lot about the guests happiness. The only thing I did NOT care for is for the parents being required to pay to join the fun festival area. It's just for kids and you have to pay to enter to supervise your kiddos. Still, worth it. We will be back!

Actually, it's probably for the best because the salad bar did look delectable and immaculate. So many fresh a clean vegetables! They also have an area with soup and chili, which the staff will also help you with. There are some tables in the salad bar area, so you can sit and eat your food inside the shop. Mostly, though, The Famous Tomato is a specialty food store. Lots of old fashioned candy, hot sauce and barbecue sauce, novelty sodas, so many different flavors of Moon Pies, and random things like salted peanuts in the shell. It's also a little farmers market, so you'll find lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. The Famous Tomato feels like a hidden gem, even though it's right there in plain sight in Speedway. For some reason, I would pass by it and I thought it was a Fazoli's? It's most certainly not, though. When you step inside, you'll see that this is a special place, with lots of special and local foods.

She told me about the shops future plans, which included smoothies (probably October) and a veggie bar. I highly recommend getting here early because they do not have an infinite supply of daily fresh fruit and have been known to run out of some of the popular fruits before closing time. There were some carnival rides available to ride and they seemed to be a bit old, outdated. The fall festival is definitely geared towards children and we didn't find many adult activities available. We enjoyed looking at the pumpkins on the tram ride and having a hot apple cider. Next year I would try a different fall festival/ pumpkin patch.

Or, if you prefer, fall…read more It reminds me of change, going to football games, participating in marching band, and all of the enjoyable activities that involve the season. One such activity is visiting apple orchards and sampling the many varieties of apples and apple adjacent treats. On a sunny fall day, after visiting I.U., I traveled a little bit out to Slaughter and was greeted warmly by the proprietor. I learned that they were the parents of the owners and were looking after the place for a bit. Upon entering the farm market, I was presented with wonderful displays of apples, ciders, apple butter, and of course, cider donuts. Samples were offered up on many of their wares, and was able to taste one of their unique apple varieties as well as one of their hard ciders. Of course, I left with several bags worth of goodies as well as an amazing experience. Will look forward to a return visit next time I'm in the area.
