My daughter has ordered cookies from here before and I was driving past and decided to stop in. They have a welcoming, friendly staff and loads on offer. I got two cookies - snickerdoodle and chocolate caramel and a cheesecake. The inside of the store is bright and fresh and doesn't feel too crowded. I'm trying to get better about it, but sometimes I'm just always on the go and that leaves me unable to do things. Traveling to visit friends, I wanted to bring them something special and thoughtful. I enjoy shopping local, especially when the independent shop carries mostly local artisan products. Such is the case with the Hayloft, tucked away in a corner of the Main Street Shoppes on US 136/Main St east of Hornaday Road. The shop doesn't have a lot bright colors to draw your attention so I drove around a bit just to find it. I also thought the store front a little dark (my wife thought the place was closed), but once inside, the two room shop was much brighter and appealing. The main room you enter has the order counter in the rear with coolers filled with meats, eggs, and other food items on the right. There were also lots of mixes, snacks, and other items. The room to the left carries coffees, sweatshirts, gift bags (?), and more canned goods. I ended up having a bag of coffee beans ground for me and picked up a mix for baked mushrooms. The woman behind the counter was friendly and answered my questions while she ground the coffee (no extra fee.) While we chatted, I noticed the order counter had lots of baked cookies and a display of cupcakes, but since I was going for ice cream after my visit, I passed on the treats. This place isn't just a small local shop, once you walk-in it's a bakery and farm-to-table store all in one. The employee's are always so nice and the store is always so clean and organized. My girls and I usually drop in once a week to grab some of their delicious cookies and cupcakes. I stopped back in the Hayloft today to pick up a few items. I had bought the frozen ground beef it comes in a tube from Fischer farms. I have used it to make burgers and usually hamburger helper. I got some of the Italian sausage as I plan on using it for pasta. I discovered a new item I hadn't seen and my son and I tried it immediately smoked cheese curds. These are amazing with a slightly spicy taste wonderful. I picked up a 6 pack of the cupcakes and the lemon blueberry one I ate for dessert today was very good very fresh. I picked up the dill and jalapeño pickles too while spicy not as hot as habanero pickles. I also bought a small chicken pot pie didn't know they had those to try too. They will be adding beer and wine in the near future which will be great as I like many of the local brews and wineries. Will be interesting to see what they add. read more

I received a gift card for $25 to The Hayloft and realized upon visiting their website that you have to spend $50 to place an order, so I put together a list of items that would get me to that dollar amount and emailed The Hayloft, per their instructions. My exact order was as follows: 1) Two lbs ground beef 6.50 2) Chorizo roll 5.99 3) 1lb chicken breast 7.42 4) 1lb chicken thighs 4.99 5) Ground chicken patties 6.99 6) 1lb. Flank steak 9.99 7) 1lb. Wings 4.99 As you'll note, I clearly demarcated the amount I wanted of each and expected a bill of around $30 after my gift card was applied. Someone from The Hayloft contacted me to confirm they had received my order and to take my credit card number--they did not give me a total amount for my order, and I didn't ask for it, because I thought I knew what it should be. I also found out they wouldn't have been able to provide it until I picked up my order anyways, so again, clarifying what I actually wanted instead of giving me twice what I asked for seems more reasonable. I noticed pretty quickly that I had been charged $56, which made it appear as if my gift card hadn't been applied, so I contacted the business. Sarah Adams, who I presume is the owner or manager, explained that they don't just sell these items by the pound. I told her it would have been nice for them to tell me that when I had clearly marked that I only wanted a lb. of most of these, because I would have adjusted the size of my order. I didn't realize that it was more than I had asked for, as I don't purchase much meat, especially in bulk. But realizing I misunderstood their process and owned some blame, I told her that in the future, they might be more clear when they're confirming the order with the customer who clearly states they want a specific amount, "because I can't be the only one who has been surprised to get more than I asked for," to which she replied in about as snide of a manner as she possibly could, "actually, you are. This has never happened before." When I replied in just as snide of a tone back that "I guess you could be a bit more accommodating to idiots like me then," she hung up on me. I'm pretty shocked by the lack of professionalism here and will never be patronizing this business again. I didn't ask for them to take the excess meat back. I just asked if they could be a little more conscientious to prevent misunderstandings like this in the future and in return, I'm treated like a raging idiot. read more

I was warmly greeted as I entered this cute little shop. The shop carries dairy, meats, fruits, herbs, flowers, fresh veggies, bottled sauces, mustard, preserves, pastas plus more. The Apple Chicken Patties, Sirloins and Jalapeno Cheddar Brats were tempting but I'll wait until we're grilling out. The Hayloft also bakes their own Cookies, Lemon Bars, Flourless Chocolate Cake and several different flavors of cupcakes. The Flourless Chocolate Cake is rich, gooey, creamy and sinfully good. The Snickerdoole Cookies were soft, flavorful and perfect. The Lemon Bars are the perfect size with a paper-thin crust, not overly sweet lemon filling topped off with a thin topping of powdered sugar. I'm glad to see a fresh, farm market in the little town of Brownsburg. I'm curious to try out more products and see what new products arrive seasonally. read more

What a great little store and a nice addition to Brownsburg. I found lots of great local products like Fisher Farms, Cornerstone bakery, and Liberation Roasting. It's also next to a Wyliepalooza Ice cream emporium so tons of gumminess in this little corner. I think with a place like this, Brownsburg can really get on the map as a place on the far West side to represent all that Indy has to offer. I'm not too close to here but it was worth the drive to check it out and support local businesses. There is a great section for fresh herbs and also frozen meat. There are also freshly in house made cupcakes. I'm definitely impressed with what the Hayloft has to offer. read more

These kinds of stores are not really my thing, because a lot of the local farm to store movement is a pretty pricey thing. The Hayloft has a fairly restrictive range of products, including honeys, jams, peanut butter, condiments, etc, from minor labels and local producers. Of more interest are their baked goods, e.g. cupcakes, that are excellent. They also carry specialty meats and sausages in a freezer. The chicken sausage we bought was definitely worth it for $6.99 a lb. This is the sort of place you go if you are having people over and want to make something really different or very gourmet. It isn't cheap, but you will definitely find something worth buying read more

We have been going here for a few months and even though they aren't necessarily a one-stop shop type of grocery store - what they do provide is the best of the best. We love their eggs, dips, meat (chicken, beef, brats, hot dogs, etc). It's quaint, gorgeous shop and the workers are very kind/helpful. read more

Great little store in Brownsburg. It is nice being able to get Indiana Pickle Co and Batch No 2 mustard. The cupcakes are really great 6 for $10 and great flavors. It is a small store w lots of meat and dairy which unfortunately I don't eat. They had cute flowers in there too. I got a cucumber and some cherry tomatoes and that was $7 which I found a bit pricey. We will be back for sure to get pickles and condiments. read more

What a delicious hidden treasure! A wonderful lady at Jimbo's BBQ in Claremont told me about the fantastic cupcakes The Hayloft sold. The Hayloft has farm fresh eggs, variety of meats, jellies and handcrafted articles neatly displayed. BUT the very back of this quaint little store are the cupcakes!
