I like Rural King and this location has a good bit of clothes and boots! The hubby also likes to purchase ammo here for his guns. We stopped in here when we were in Greenwood this past week. I tried on some boots that I thought were super cute and we bought some ammo. I looked through their sale clothing and they had some really good deals like a Carhartt T-Shirt for women that was marked down. I ended up not buying any clothing on this trip but we will be back in. Plenty of parking out front of the store and they were not too busy at all. I'm waiting in a long line to pay for nothing more than some flower seeds, when a man opens a line and says, Next in line I am open. I clearly say here I come to him three times, taking the closest route so as not to disturb all the people that were behind me. When I get there the cashier loudly and rudely says, Since you came over the wrong way, I'm taking this man first! The man hadn't even been standing in line, he was just walking up!!! I said, Well here you go, tossed the seeds on the counter and left. This cashier has convinced me that Rural King is better off without my money, I won't be returning to any of them. I have been shopping with this company for many years, spending several hundreds of dollars every Spring, and recommending their products to friends and neighbors, but no more!!! read more

How many times do we drive by places and never see them due to being so focused on our driving or non evasive signage per ordinances that we miss them altogether? That's my only explanation for never noticing this Rural King. Although a buck gets you ten I'm usually north bound on Hwy 31 and turning away from RK to hit the roundabout to head east at the light in front of their store. I will be comparing this store to my usual RK store in Martinsville. Pretty much everything is better with one notable exception and that is they were out of .38/.357 ammunition. The store must be bigger because I saw more inventory of everything I'm used to seeing in a RK. They have an entire clothing section dedicated to Carhartt. And many more aisles of footwear it seemed to me. Also I found more racks of clothing on clearance. I noticed a line of Yellowstone and Dutton Ranch T-shirts as well. RK is the best place to buy cable ties in my opinion. They have the largest selection of all different sizes and colors and they are priced very low compared to other stores. And they're the only ones I've ever seen carry the really long ones, two feet, in different colors. I used to buy my wet cat food at RK until the big shortage last year. The Martinsville store has never got back to pre-shortage inventory levels but this store has and then some. I bought two cases of my cat's favorite flavors. I was also amazed to find their favorite dry food in the large bag on a pallet of about 50 other bags. Walmart has been out of stock or running very low of Purina dry cat food for awhile now. It appears RK has no problem stocking a lot of dry cat food in various brands, flavors and sizes. My only complaint with RK is their price labeling. A lot of merchandise is not marked including clothing. Sometimes you really have to hunt for a little sign on a rack of socks for instance. And a lot of the time the price labels are completely wrong. A bag of 100 8 inch tie wraps was marked at $4.99 but rang up at $2.99. A denim jacket I bought was tagged at $39.99 but rang up at $42.99. A Wrangler shirt was tagged at $22.99 but rang up $17.99. I ended up coming out ahead but the point is, checking out is like going to the casino. You don't what the total is really going to be. They do not have bar code price checkers placed throughout the store. At least I've never seen any. And when there is something I want to buy but there is no price or the price is questionable, I don't purchase the item. read more

I recently worked here and was hired as a cashier. They asked me to work carts when needed and I said yes but I have arthritis in my neck. They had me on carts for 2 weeks straight and when I complained they placed me on register as a cashier. They started harassing me about selling credit cards and signing up customers for rewards. All I can say is " hi welcome did you find everything ok. Are you a member? No? Want to become one? Interested in a credit card? No? Ok. Make sure you fill out your survey for a chance to win 100 dollar gift card. I was given no sales training. They would not tape a script to the register for guidance until I asked and all I can do is what I had been doing even with the script. They pulled me into the office after calling in sick and leaving Early on a day where I could not take the harassment any longer and I needed to leave because I was having a borderline episode. I respectfully left and I called into work the next day and talked to someone "albeit it wasn't a manager but I didn't know it needed to be a manger. Just thought a person. But anywho they pulled me on the office and proceeded to tell me that they would explain it in metaphor so I could better understand. They told me they have all their Good apples lined up and they make 11-20% on credit cards and rewards everyday but that then they have me the "bad apple" who just can't seem to get it right. They continued to bully me telling me they would have to let me go if I couldn't catch up. I personally applied to be a cashier. Not to sell credit cards or rewards to customers. I said and did what they asked. Yet it seems it doesn't matter if my drawer is never too over or under and that I'm a good cashier and I want to work. It's all in the hands of customers now and I feel personally bullied and forced out of this job. You claim to want good workers but yet you abuse them. You don't want good workers . You want slaves. If customers and shoppers are who get to say if I have a job or not based on signing up for rewards. This job is a terrible job. It does not treat its employees like humans. read more

Rural King is a treasure trove of all things camo and outdoorsy. It seems that there are things for my whole family to enjoy in Rural King. My husband loves to shop here for hunting and fishing gear. The prices seem to be very reasonable and affordable. My kids always make their first stop the popcorn station. Who doesn't love free popcorn? They enjoy the mixture of toys in the toy aisle. We've found some unique gifts there! We all enjoy looking at the baby chicks and bunny rabbits. This always tired mom appreciates that they have a Keurig and kcups waiting right after you walk in. Their food aisles have a lot of interesting finds. My husband bought me a couple pairs of incredibly warm aloe socks from Rural King that are good quality and hold up well. If you're looking for good service, affordable prices and are an outdoorsy family, Rural King should be your new weekend destination. read more

This particular store is a frequent stop for us even if we don't necessarily need anything. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They don't mind spending the time explaining things that are new to me and making suggestions to help me be successful on whatever new endeavor I'm undertaking. The free popcorn is a nice old time touch. You just help yourself to one of the small paper bags or you can purchase a large plastic bag for only $2. I wouldn't buy firearms from them. I later found a shotgun I ordered from RK, on another site for $150 less. On top of that, customer service was lacking. I never got the promised email of alert, notifying me that my firearm was in. I called about a week after it said it had shipped. I was told it would get an email. Another week later, I see they had an advertisement for in-house sales for the same shotgun. I contact customer service via the website and get an email back that my firearm came in 6 days after it shipped. Ooookay. So mine sat there two weeks after shipping. Nope. I can do better. Purchased a firearm Thursday 10/08/2020 took it out shooting for the first time Saturday 10/10/2020 and it wasn't shooting, not a single bullet came out of it. We give Rural king a LOT of our business because they are the nearest farm store and about the only place to get what we need for our farm... but we have had many issues over the years with their stock and pricing. Today we drove around 70 miles to come to this store because they had fence posts listed as in stock. Not only don't they have the posts we came for, they don't have ANY electric fence posts. It's a great place to get lost in and also kill LOTS of time. It's also a huge store that will take some strategy to explore and memorize. Regardless, it's a fun and interesting discovery/journey to experience. I am impressed that they are one of the few places I can find a particular type of soap I need. Who knew ?! They have excellent prices on plants when the growing season starts. The people that work there are friendly and very helpful. It's nice to see a successful business pick up and take over after the K-Mart in the same spot folded up and closed. Greenwood needed the economic boost! I was really excited to check this place out. I've heard great things. I checked in on Yelp when walking in and for checking in it said I got a free bag of popcorn. Well, you get a free sack when you shop regardless. But they also sell big bags of them. So I went to customer service and showed them the offer. A cashier said she hadn't seen that before and would call a manager. The offer was counting down from 4 minutes to redeem. The manager came up and looked at it and said "yeah that's Yelp, that's not our thing. So no." I said "that's fine I just wanted to check since it was confusing." He proceeded to be pretty rude and insinuate that I brought in a fake coupon to use. Since that wasn't the case and I literally just showed him the offer I got when checking in I was pretty upset. What terrible customer service. I wasn't rude or demanding I simply asked if it was something to get a free big bag. I grabbed my phone back and said forget it. He changed his tune real quick and said "but I'd give you a free one if you want it." I said "no." and left. To accuse me of having a fake coupon was a little extreme. This is our go to rural king. We live close to the south side so this is the closest location. Recently we have been kinda disappointed with this location, we have been looking for a metal trash can to store our bird food in for the last couple months and they havent had them in stock. They have the lids to go with the cans but no cans. We buy a lot of bird seed and suet cakes from them so we need something to store our bird seed in. We also buy alot of our new puppy's stuff from here, but again they seem to be pretty picked over when it comes to toys, leashes and harnesses. We also love the little stubbies up by the registers and we must not be the only one because those never seem to be in stock. When we can find them we buy several at a time because our weekly trips havent turned much up recently. Overall good store, wish they would build a location at the old kmart in beech grove so we dont have to drive so far to get our weekly supplies. read more

I've purchased several hand guns from Rual King in Greenwood. The other day I informed the guy at the gun counter that I wanted to buy my first shotgun. I purchased a Stevens 320 12 guage. The guy behind the counter recommended the mini shells for home defense. I made it clear several times that this was my first shotgun so, I go on your recommendation. I get the gun and shells home. The minis dont cycle through the gun AT ALL. I called Steven's customer service. The guys says they NEVER recommend using minis in ANY of their shotguns EVER. I call the gun counter in Rual King. This is not even 24 hours later. I'm told all gun and ammo sales are final. There is nothing he can do. I call and talk to a manager names Susan. I thought she was going to help. She asked for the date on my receipt, the time and amount. Then my name. Then she says all ammo sales are final. That she will look into it and call me. Well no call was made to me. Rual King will sell you a gun, sell you ammo that can not be used in that gun and recommend it for home defense. What a joke. I have ammo to a new gun that I cant use. I cant exchange it for ammo I can use. Rual king has lost a repeat customer. What a joke this place is. Go buy your guys and ammo someplace else that knows what they are doing. Up until today I really like Rule King as a company but now I am so unhappy I don't know what to do about it I purchased a brand new lawn mower from them and being on Social Security and 70 years it takes a lot for me to save up money pay cash for it. At home couldn't get it to start no matter what I did I bought their floor model is all done all the oil was in I just had to put gas in it and told me I was ready to go couldn't start it finally got it three strips maybe turned it off when to go get a water come back couldn't get it to start again took it back to the store that day but I only had that one day now and they wouldn't do a dang thing I have bought the floor model maybe somebody else used it and brought it back bad they said they need to look at it so therefore I have to buy as far as I'm concerned something that is not working properly and paid full price for it show I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do but something's going to get done and I just in sad that Rule King doesn't take better care of their customers cuz I've been a customer for years do my FYI accounts remodeling our home everything but no no more cuz the manager up there was rude to me and just talk to me like I was a dog as far as I'm concerned blamed it all on me I didn't do nothing but start the more I go two strips and that's it I find it sad that they can sell a lawn mower it not work but one day and they'll let me know what they might do for me know poor business for Rural King very poor business read more

Always have really nice great people and a lot of help if needed. But I called twice to let them know they had someone with no handicap sticker in the windows, dash or plate and parked in a handicap spot. Watched a person in a "scooter" stop and look after having to park at the end of the row in hopes no one parks next to him. (Talked to him). He said he was used to it, no point in even mentioning it. After selling me two firearms and thousands of rounds of ammo, they sold me several hundred defective 9mm rounds (unknowingly, I'm sure). No problem -- unless I want to return or exchange it. Jeff, at the Greenwood store, told me they don't make exceptions to their 'no returns' policy, even if the product is defective.
