When I used to live in Greenwood, I would stop at Phillips Produce to pick up some fresh fruit/veggies. And during the fall season, they sell pumpkins and bales of straw for decorating. But we moved, so it had been years since my last visit. I finally stopped in and am I glad I did! First, they are easy to find with a location at the corner of Southport Rd and Meridian. It does make it a little difficult to get in and out of when traffic is heavy because it can back up and block the entrance if you are having to cut across. (So plan avoid rush hour or plan to arrive from the west on Southport!) I started browsing and was greeted by the staff. He suggested grabbing one of the carts which is cool because they have a small ramp that you can tow the cart inside to pay without having to unload. There were all the items you might go to an orchard to find: pumpkins, apples, gourds, mums, and more. I found some purple mums for $8.50 that had blooms spreading nearly 2' across! There were some cool gourds five for $5. Another good deal! The staff, though busy unloading and arranging things by one of the sheds, saw me go into the store and immediately came over to ring up my order. That is good customer service. Now that I've returned once, I'll have to make it a point to swing by this way more often. Review #3155

I stumbled across Phillips produce while traveling down the road and decided to make a stop as I was running early and it looked very old school. I was surprised to see some major brands like Dole but I realize sometimes that must be necessary if they want to keep a good inventory. The prices seemed competitive with my home area and the convenience of just hopping out of your car to purchase your produce with out taking a hike through a big box store was very nice. If I was from the area Phillips Produce would be a regular stop for me.

The cider, The jams, the fruits, the carmel, the persimmons, way too much to mention. Loved it all. Last year my husband passed away and I found out that Adrian's closed. So very, very sad. It seems the better part of Indianapolis is closing...Adrian's, Lidners, Roslyns, Maria's, Edwards, the list is endless! Adrian's, your closing hurts to the core. I have my memories. You will be missed beyond words. Bless you.

They also have some lovely pumpkin for eating, decorating and all purposes in between. The main store space has been cleared out and has racks of apples, some pumpkins and cider for sale as well as random yummy treats such as Carmel apples etc. While we were there one of the new owners told us they are hoping to hold events perhaps in the store portion or in their updated barn/pavilion area. They have a great space now with picnic tables and a fire pit for eating and enjoying the fall colors. They also have a Brozini's pizza food truck which is delightful! If you have a hankering for pizza and apples this is a great spot to come sit outside and enjoy nature with some amazing food. We were encouraged to walk the orchard and the grounds to see their improvements. It was fun to be back in this spot that has been iconic for many of us and hopefully will continue to be so for years to come! If you haven't checked them out yet they are a great place for a fall outing and some amazing cider and apples, pumpkins etc. and we were told the cider recipe is the same so not to worry about a change in tradition! Come on out and enjoy! We will be back next weekend for sure!

It smells awesome as soon as you walk in. They specialized in fresh fruit cups/bowls. I must admit that the fruit is picturesque. It looks and tastes very fresh. I opted to get a bowl of my favorite fruit; pineapple, kiwi, blackberries, strawberries, ohhh my. I top it off with some chamoy. It was delicious. It sure beats those pre made bowls from the grocery store. And a great alternative to fast food. They really pack the fruit in the cups and bowls. You get your money's worth. I went there during the peak time so I had a bit of a wait. But they have jams playing throughout the shop while you wait. The owner was awesome. She was very, humble, helpful, and friendly. She told me about the shops future plans, which included smoothies (probably October) and a veggie bar. I highly recommend getting here early because they do not have an infinite supply of daily fresh fruit and have been known to run out of some of the popular fruits before closing time. You really need to check this place out. And I am not seeing if you happen to pass by it. This is a shop that you can make a special trip for. I am glad that I was able to make it to the shop and look forward to coming back real soon.

This place is by far one of the most unique businesses I've been to. It's a market, so you can buy produce and you can also create your own fruit cups and fruit bowls, they have smoothies and smoothie bowls that you can top with fruit as well. I ordred their Summersicle Smoothie and a fruit cup, everything was perfect. They even pack the inside of the lid of your fruit up with more fruit. I love a place that makes sure you are truly getting what you paid for! I love visiting places like this. Coming here literally made my day

I guess this is how they maintain a salad bar that's so fresh and so clean. (No Outkast.) You animals used your grubby, bare hands one too many times to reach for the croutons, and now look what you did. Now we have to talk to someone if we want a salad, and point at what we want like a child. It's all your fault! Actually, it's probably for the best because the salad bar did look delectable and immaculate. So many fresh a clean vegetables! They also have an area with soup and chili, which the staff will also help you with. There are some tables in the salad bar area, so you can sit and eat your food inside the shop. Mostly, though, The Famous Tomato is a specialty food store. Lots of old fashioned candy, hot sauce and barbecue sauce, novelty sodas, so many different flavors of Moon Pies, and random things like salted peanuts in the shell. It's also a little farmers market, so you'll find lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. The Famous Tomato feels like a hidden gem, even though it's right there in plain sight in Speedway. For some reason, I would pass by it and I thought it was a Fazoli's? It's most certainly not, though. When you step inside, you'll see that this is a special place, with lots of special and local foods.

The gumbo with shrimp actually had a bit of a bite to it, which was a pleasant surprise since most dishes in the mid-west are prepared bland even if they are supposed to have some spice. Highly recommend this dish... unless you like bland foods. I tried the churros creme brulee, which in my mind is two desserts in one. You have your little churros on top and then a good sized serving of creme brulee... and a truly great creme brulee at that... kudos
