Talk about being transported back in time! I've always driven right past this place thinking that…read morethey just offer top quality tomatoes, but it's actually so much more than that. They have more than tomatoes, they've got other fresh produce, and fresh food - a full kitchen, actually. Serving up soups and sandwiches and walls and walls of candy if you have a sweet tooth. The area in the back for food was actually quite busy (it was lunch time on a Saturday), so I decided on just getting some sauces and fresh produce for home. I literally spent a good half hour going through every nook and cranny of this place. It truly transported me to another decade. Thankfully, I live pretty close. It's safe to say I'll be going back more often!

I guess this is how they maintain a salad bar that's so fresh and so clean. (No Outkast.) You animals used your grubby, bare hands one too many times to reach for the croutons, and now look what you did. Now we have to talk to someone if we want a salad, and point at what we want like a child. It's all your fault! Actually, it's probably for the best because the salad bar did look delectable and immaculate. So many fresh a clean vegetables! They also have an area with soup and chili, which the staff will also help you with. There are some tables in the salad bar area, so you can sit and eat your food inside the shop. Mostly, though, The Famous Tomato is a specialty food store. Lots of old fashioned candy, hot sauce and barbecue sauce, novelty sodas, so many different flavors of Moon Pies, and random things like salted peanuts in the shell. It's also a little farmers market, so you'll find lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. The Famous Tomato feels like a hidden gem, even though it's right there in plain sight in Speedway. For some reason, I would pass by it and I thought it was a Fazoli's? It's most certainly not, though. When you step inside, you'll see that this is a special place, with lots of special and local foods.

It smells awesome as soon as you walk in. They specialized in fresh fruit cups/bowls. I must admit that the fruit is picturesque. It looks and tastes very fresh. I opted to get a bowl of my favorite fruit; pineapple, kiwi, blackberries, strawberries, ohhh my. I top it off with some chamoy. It was delicious. It sure beats those pre made bowls from the grocery store. And a great alternative to fast food. They really pack the fruit in the cups and bowls. You get your money's worth. I went there during the peak time so I had a bit of a wait. But they have jams playing throughout the shop while you wait. The owner was awesome. She was very, humble, helpful, and friendly. She told me about the shops future plans, which included smoothies (probably October) and a veggie bar. I highly recommend getting here early because they do not have an infinite supply of daily fresh fruit and have been known to run out of some of the popular fruits before closing time. You really need to check this place out. And I am not seeing if you happen to pass by it. This is a shop that you can make a special trip for. I am glad that I was able to make it to the shop and look forward to coming back real soon.

This place is by far one of the most unique businesses I've been to. It's a market, so you can buy produce and you can also create your own fruit cups and fruit bowls, they have smoothies and smoothie bowls that you can top with fruit as well. I ordred their Summersicle Smoothie and a fruit cup, everything was perfect. They even pack the inside of the lid of your fruit up with more fruit. I love a place that makes sure you are truly getting what you paid for! I love visiting places like this. Coming here literally made my day

Sandwiches are only $8 and for $2 more select a gourmet side and drink. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. I ordered a tuna sandwich with marinated Greek salad and ice tea. The sandwich was prepared quickly and the multigrain bread was fresh and nutty. The Greek salad was a meal in itself! Soooo good! The salad had paper thin noodles in a vinegar seasoning that was tangy and delicious. My husband had the roast beef sandwich, which was packed with meat and cheese. He loved it. A staff member checked on us to see if we needed anything while we were eating. There is plenty of seating and patio seating as well. The space is shared with Slapfish. I think parking can get tight during peak hours, but there were not many people during Saturday lunchtime. The market also sells fresh veggies, staples and locally made products. This deli is a slam dunk in my book. I'll be back.

I therefore have a deeply-rooted connection to this spot, as it still feels like special folklore to me. *And I'm lowkey still looking for Billy as I shop for chips.* Anywho, I love all of the local items they offer here. From Hot Toddy's baked goods (the carrot cake is amazing) to local meats, snacks, and more, you'll enjoy this mini grocery that's connected to Slapfish (delicious, fast-casual seafood spot). They have a lot of produce here and it's fun to browse. There's a free parking lot out front, making it easy to pop in on a whim. Stop in!
