She always has very unique finds that are perfect for gifts, or yourself! Most recently, I purchased a jar of elderberry and grape jam from her at the Indy Winters Farmers Market. It was delicious and reasonably priced. You'll mostly notice Laura's featherwork jewelry and goodies. While I can't say that they're for me, they definitely make a statement and can turn an eye...to say the least. Laura is incredibly nice and just another reason to give this place a shot (whether at their farm or at a local event).

Maybe you're looking for a feathered mask for a party? Fret not, Laura, Queen Feather, has you covered. I have made all of my Featherwerks purchases at the Indy Winter Farmers Market. My favorite part of every purchase experience has been listening to Laura explain what types of feathers are being used, how she gathered them and the general story behind the products. She has a crafty eye that could make even the dullest plumage into a work of art. Not only are they art, but extremely affordable - $8 for handcrafted and local earrings? I think I can pull that off ;) The feathers are gathered in a variety of ways, but most often they are compiled following the slaughter of the Farm's chickens for meat. **thought: this is definitely the first time I've used the word "slaughter" in a review...**

The Whitestown Farmers Market is held on Thursday nights in the parking lot of Main Street Park…read more This week, there were about 16 vendors. I come for the produce. There was only one vendor with produce, probably because it's early in the season. That vendor had beautiful local strawberries that I bought. (Best I've had this season). There were two vendors selling local meats, one selling eggs, one selling honey and a Grilliant food truck selling brats, hot dogs, etc. Other vendors were selling crafts or commercial products. I would have preferred seeing less (or no) commercial products and more farm products. People were friendly. I did enjoy seeing and talking to neighbors. There was a small area for kids to play or draw with chalk. The library also had their bookmobile at the park. Parking is limited especially if a lot of people using the park. There are nice restroom facilities on site.

They have a great location going for them and parking is right next to where the tables are set up. The Zionsville Farmer's Market is most likely at capacity each week so I wish Whitestown could do the same. Maybe some more events or specials would help them out. I just didn't see too many businesses I would even approach. For example, I'm not looking to inquire insurance at a farmer's market. When I think of an Indiana farmer's market I think of corn, flowers, bread, strawberries, and something to eat. Hopefully things pick up soon.

A musician played guitar and sang in the center. There was a little seating here and there. We arrived early and found plenty of parking and it was easy to move around with few lines. (There's always a line for corn.) Vendors were friendly. I even ran into an old friend and we chatted. The market is a good place to connect with people and enjoy beautiful downtown Zionsville. The prices are high, way higher than the grocery store. But after gardening, I get how much work goes into getting a crop of anything. I picked up some peppers and a pie. Yum.

I visited every booth and even got a free pair of swim goggles, a pencil sharpener in the shape of a fire extinguisher, and other great stuff. I went to a trailer to learn about prevention of home fires and how to signal for help from an upper floor. I have a video of me breaking a board with the foot! Moreover, an organization was offering free hot pancakes with 2% real maple syrup, butter, and mini bottled water. What a tasty treat as I have not had pancakes in a long time! This trip at the market and after learning about their process, I bought a $2 yellow squash from a vendor who uses essential oils to distract inserts/bugs and their own animals' waste as fertilizer. I will taste to determine if similar to other growers. Also, I bought again the $14 (6) frozen chicken eggrolls. I air fried one upon arriving at home. Yummy! Another new and happening morning! I attended the Sunflower Festival this weekend with my husband, sister and niece. There's really something for everyone. They have a gift shop as well as a neat and novelty grocery dept. There was a kids entrepreneurial endeavor as well where we bought some trinkets and sunflower pillowcases made by the kids who were selling them directly. Great concept! Whether you'd like to snack on delicious, fresh cider donuts while sipping on apple cider slush or have a smash burger & watch your wood fired pizza being made for lunch, the food and drinks are guaranteed to keep you in good spirits. The festival admission includes two fresh cuttings of any sunflowers of your choosing as well as three zinnia cuts. They hand you a pair of clippers and you then get to venture out into the "Fields of Gold"-- to quote Sting. It's overwhelmingly beautiful. The admission also includes tractor & train rides around the farm, access to the big slides (child sizes too) playgrounds and the opportunity to go apple picking for an additional fee. Prices are all pretty reasonable for an event like this one and parking is free. The staff are very helpful and friendly. They have activities for kids to keep them busy and entertained. 10/10 will be returning again next year.
