Southwest corner of Rangeline and Main

Although it probably sounds like I go out for every meal, I do enjoy a yummy dish at home too. So, when I was walking along Main St in Carmel, I was drawn to this combo Olive oil/Balsamic vinegar/spice business at the corner of Rangeline. This is the third store in the Midwest and I was totally impressed with the quality of the items offered. I was greeted by a man who was running the counter and he explained how the different "islands" were set up: The first (closest to the door) had a dozen tanks of flavored Balsamic Vinegars. Each stainless tank had a small spigot on front that allowed you to pour a small sample into the handy mini paper cups for a tasting. Wow! There were so many great flavors that I was hard pressed to decide. (I ended up selecting a small bottle of Red Apple Balsamic and a White Peach Balsamic. Yum!) The second island was set up the same as the first, but held savory olive oils. Again, it was self help for tastings and here I found most had combinations of herbs or citrus. I selected a bacon infused oil that I can't wait to try with either salads or as a base for frying a burger. There was also a third island for unflavored olive oils that were from different varieties/locations to choose from. The wall had shelves lined with spices and salts that also was setup so that you could taste them. Great idea! I ended up with a shaker of Tuscan spices that I've been looking for. When I made my decision, the manager (?) filled bottles for me from the same steel containers as my tastings. He then sealed the bottles (I didn't pay close attention to see how he did that since I was still browsing the spices.) This is a specialty item store with a product that takes time to prepare and is also perishable. So don't go in thinking you are going to get cheap grocery store prices for these things (even groceries aren't cheap.) However, if you take your time and sample the flavors, I am sure you will find something unique and delicious to add to your pantry. (Be sure to keep the oils in the dark after opening to avoid having sun damage. Fortunately, the bottles are made of colored glass to help preserve the quality inside.) I found the service to be quite knowledgeable and friendly. No sales pressure at all. I was advised that they have a points program that offers rewards after certain totals are achieved. That might appeal to someone who was cooking more often and lived much closer than I do. Review #2516

The Olive Mill is a fun stop. The guys working there are always super nice and helpful. They have so many different and unique olive oils and balsamic vinegar! We bought 2 balsamic bottles, black cherry and chocolate and they are amazing on fresh strawberries! We had fun tasting all the different options they had. It was hard to narrow it down and we can't wait to try something new next time. I really enjoy popping in the nights of the Gallery Walk. They usually have some fun baked items they make using the oils and balsamic vinegar! I love the brownies with orange, the cookies with raspberry and once we had a good lemon one! I bet they know a ton of ideas to experiment with the oils and vinegar! They also had lots of spices and seasonings. It's really fun to check out all they have and I really have a good time visiting!

Sandwiches are only $8 and for $2 more select a gourmet side and drink. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. I ordered a tuna sandwich with marinated Greek salad and ice tea. The sandwich was prepared quickly and the multigrain bread was fresh and nutty. The Greek salad was a meal in itself! Soooo good! The salad had paper thin noodles in a vinegar seasoning that was tangy and delicious. My husband had the roast beef sandwich, which was packed with meat and cheese. He loved it. A staff member checked on us to see if we needed anything while we were eating. There is plenty of seating and patio seating as well. The space is shared with Slapfish. I think parking can get tight during peak hours, but there were not many people during Saturday lunchtime. The market also sells fresh veggies, staples and locally made products. This deli is a slam dunk in my book. I'll be back.

I therefore have a deeply-rooted connection to this spot, as it still feels like special folklore to me. *And I'm lowkey still looking for Billy as I shop for chips.* Anywho, I love all of the local items they offer here. From Hot Toddy's baked goods (the carrot cake is amazing) to local meats, snacks, and more, you'll enjoy this mini grocery that's connected to Slapfish (delicious, fast-casual seafood spot). They have a lot of produce here and it's fun to browse. There's a free parking lot out front, making it easy to pop in on a whim. Stop in!

That's actually why I feel compelled to say something - during my visit, I saw an adult man berate a young hostess over the wait time. No one deserves to be spoken to that way, especially not a teenager doing their job in a high-pressure environment. Unfortunately, I've seen this kind of behavior more than once at restaurants, and it needs to stop. If you're frustrated, taking it out on staff is not ok. A little patience and basic respect go a long way. As someone who used to work as a hostess, I know how stressful those moments can be, and I really appreciated how gracefully the team at Juniper on Main handled everything. They deserve a lot of credit. Highly recommend this place, not just for the great food, but for the hardworking, kind staff who keep things running. If you are someone that can't control your temper and you take it out on unsuspecting people, you should order in. Your frustration doesn't give you the right to behave so awful.

On today's visit, Hannah took wonderful care of us. She told us she was happy we chose to dine on the patio so she, too, could appreciate this unusually warm February day. We appreciated her friendly and upbeat personality! Upon her recommendation, we ordered the citrus shrimp tacos as well as the jerk chicken tacos and upgraded to the coconut rice and beans as the side for both. We also had to order the hot honey chicken tenders with slaw and fries, which has become a menu favorite of ours as it is 100% southernly delicious. And, we have lots of yummy leftovers to enjoy, which is always a plus!
