I've worked in retail including grocery. You honor your signage and then remove it if it was a mistake. The manager there is rude and yelled at my aunt that he wasn't honoring it despite it being his stores mistake. Big man yelling at a woman. Awful customer service. I realize we're going through this pandemic and things are a little different but when I went into the store searching for an ad item, there is no one on the floor to ask any questions. none of the items listed on the ad were in stock and they don't do rain checks. You can't call the store because you only get the corporate office who tells you they do not give her information on stock. I actually found one of the items listed on the ad but someone from the butcher department told me they're never on sale for that price. one store clerk told me that if the item was gone they would probably have some more in the next day. So I went back to the store for consecutive mornings only to find nothing in stock. On the 4th day I was told that once an item comes in and it's sold out they don't get anymore. Therefore I made four trips to the store unnecessarily with this damn virus floating around everywhere. Customer service needs some extreme revamping. this is one of those cases where I will probably never visit the store again and have nothing good to say about them. Way too many issues. at absolute least you should have a phone number where a customer can call, talk to a human being, and ask a question. Unacceptable! read more

Aldis is affiliated with Trader Joes, so very eclectic and hyper efficient! The packaging and store brands might be odd for many Americans. Read the ingredients and know you are honoring your body. No preservatives, coloring, and additives, just amazing food for much less. There are very few repetitions of every product and everything is displayed right in the box for efficiency. Take a quarter for a cart, you get it back when you return the cart! This saves Aldis on employees not needed to return carts and we don't have to pay for replacement carts when they're stolen. Hint! The quarter slot can be hard on some people but if you wait a moment and offer someone a quarter after they load their car, everyone wins! Their website has recipes in perfect portions so you usually use all of each item so no waste. They keep costs down by having you do your own bagging, but is it really that hard to bag? My brother and I were visiting family in the area and decided to stop in to see what deals we can snag. I typically visit one in LA by my boyfriends house. My brother lived in Oklahoma where it started(?) and he was super stoked to visit. He loved that they let employees sit down while at the register. The parking lot has plenty of space which is surprising given how many neat businesses are in that plaza. As expected prices were decent. Hardly any line. We grabbed a tote bag full of food and juice for $16. I don't think it's a place we can stock up on especially since the meat selection wasn't our fave. Love Aldi Store. Adam helped my wife and I find what we were looking for. Adam is a great employee with wonderful people skills. He made shopping at Aldi's fun and rewarding. However when it came time to pay at the register I was met with Perla, a super unfriendly angry looking young lady with zero people skills and a bandana across her forehead. No eye contact...no greeting... No smile...not a word. I lost all the joy that Adam created with his super friendly down to earth personality. She ruined the magic. Best Aldi in the county... Love it here... Well stocked, friendly and not too crowded. As for being an Aldi: it's different than other markets since they only carry store brands not national brands (about 98% store brands), also they only carry basic food staples that have the highest turnover. That helps them keep prices low by reducing food expiry while on the shelves. And you bring your cart back to the front rather than them having to hire a cart-fetcher... small things that I think we take for granted at other stores all add up to a much lower price at Aldi. We find a way to make all our meals out of things we can buy here and we eat like kings, just need to be willing to make things from scratch... And we save easily 3-5x what we would pay at Vons or whole foods...and the quality is definitely better than grocery outlet or food4less or other super bargain grocery stores... Aldi is about actually doing it differently to keep prices low without sacrifici g quality! Shop on! read more

Oh Aldi, Thank you so much for diminishing my homesickness of Europe. Even though the store is fully standardized to American standards with the majority of their products, but there are still some great finds of European imported: - Chocolate (Seen them from Germany, Switzerland, and Austria) - Cheese (Dutch!, French, Greek, Irish, Italian -- you name it) Their deli department is amazing and is so much more European Priced - Frozen Pizza's - Brioche Bread - German Cookies with a Chocolate top (called ''Butterkeks'') Of course the store carries a write variety of products with their generic branding. But great deals around every time especially on the produce such as: - $ 0.10/each Cucumber - $0.39 Avocado's - $0.78 Gala Apples - $0.49 Bell-Peppers (The produce is based on the winter months, so of course they swing deals depending on each season). As I always have thought about the contrast between Europe and the U.S. is that first life needs (such as food, medicines etc.) are noticeable more expensive than back in Europe, On the other hand, luxury products (such as electronics, cars, and home appliances) seem more affordable than in Europe. Having that said; I believe that Aldi did change that dynamic as the West Coast of the U.S. is expanding European restaurants, foods, clothes, and even furniture. Aldi is nevertheless one of the best additions to adding a European to some of your groceries, but overall the entire shopping experience. Make sure to bring a quarter to rent a cart, a reusable back and a fast paced mind to gather all the groceries in your bag ( as there is no long conveyer belt after the products are scanned). There's also a sorting area where you can organize your bag to make the overall shopping quick and efficient. The small size brings a lot of fewer selections, but I can tell you that they have a satisfying selection out there. read more

Small-ish grocery store, so products available are limited, but despite the condensed selection, they seemed to have a lot of gluten-free options (I'm not gluten intolerant, but I have a relative who is) and a handful of other items I don't see often. I think it's because Aldi is a Midwestern chain (or so I've been told), so they have brands I've never heard of, as well as a few German foods. Among the uncommon things I found here when I stopped in last week are: "Texas Caviar" (it was a corn salsa if I recall correctly), mango chipotle vinaigrette, picked purple cabbage (I've been looking for some for a while and most stores only have regular white sauerkraut), and Tapatío brand chunky salsa (I thought it was only available online; I've only ever seen the regular hot sauce in stores before). I also recall them having interesting cheeses. Prices were low and things that were on sale were even better. Only 4 stars because, again, the store is small and selection is limited, but I'll definitely be back to shop here again. Lastly: The absolute BEST thing about this Aldi? They provide chairs for the cashiers. That is so rare around here, and it's fantastic that Aldi cares about their employees' well-being like that. Yes! I grew up in PA with one of these and and am extremely excited for the expansion out to California! Yes, yes there are many grocery stores but none so cheap while still offering quality goods! I always go to this store but lately I've noticed the waiting time in line is ridiculously long! I was there yesterday and there were 2 lanes open and both lines were so long that I couldn't see where they ended down the isle! Both cashiers looked and neither called for back up!! Unbelievable! Someone from the back of the line yelled to the cashier's to please get help then they paged for additional cashier's!! This place is totally awesome. A lot of their produce is dirt cheap as well as some of their dairy products. You won't find a lot of name brand foods here as they sell a lot of their own company, "Clancy's", brand name food. Located conveniently next to a Party City, a brand new Hobby Lobby (the second in San Diego - and only in south SD), and a great new Smart & Final store as well. This store is located in an offshoot of an older shopping center that also contains a Ross, Petco, Grocery Outlet, Dixieland. There is also another offshoot part o the shopping center that has a Walmart, a Best Buy and an Island Credit Union. That was a mouthful. Point being that this place is awesome and it's located near a ton of other large retail stores. Opens at 9am closes at 9pm. read more

So glad CA is catching up with the rest of the country! I shopped Aldi back East and I am very familiar with their concept while this may be a novelty to San Diegans, this is a tried and true concept that is great. Bring a quarter - you will need to get a shopping cart. Bring your own bags - but then again this is for all of CA now! I shopped during opening weekend and got my free reusable Aldi bag - 2 in fact! Aisles are clean and wide, but shopping in Chula Vista is always a busy experience. There isn't a vast selection in this store. It's clean and well-stocked - good for the staples, but you will need to go to another grocery store if you are doing heavy-duty grocery shopping. I have always used Aldi as a "run-in-I-need-a-few-last-minute-item" and it's worked fine for me. I just Wegman's would come to CA - talk about knocking off your socks!! read more

I used to love shopping here however since they rearrange and change the floor plan of this location, it's not easy to shop here anymore. The store is very messy now and everything is disorganized where the isle that usually use to have specialty items are so cluttered. It was neat and organized before. I asked the cashier why Aldi's changed the floor plan and she stated because there were a lot of people stealing the items close to the door. I can understand why they put the wines in the back but the store is really a mess. I went to see maybe it's just that day it was so cluttered but it was the same. I will stop shopping here anymore. Aldi is my favorite store for grocery shopping they have fresh produce, fruits in season, eggs, meat, frozen items, dairy, pizza, they even have some household good items as well as gift items. -- Handicap un-friendly: You have to pay 25¢ to get a cart. If you want your quarter back, you have to take the cart back to the store. I am a disabled vet with mobility problems. It's hard enough to walk to the store, through the store, and to my car. It's no picnic to walk there and back twice. -- You Bag It: The clerk puts your stuff back in your cart. There is a ledge against the wall (which is not at a height convenient for wheelchair-bound customers). You have to wrestle your way through the gaggle to get to the counter to bag your groceries. -- Weird brands: Most items are from unknown manufacturers (not generic). It's a crap-shoot on quality (although well-known brands are sometimes no that great either, but I digress). -- Prices: Not that much of a bargain considering all of the above. -- BTW: I lived in Germany for 7 years (back in the 80's and shopped at Aldi many times. Aldi's is the best! When I returned home a couple years ago to find an Aldi one block away from where I live, I didn't have any idea what kind of store it was. Once I went inside, I found out that it is basically a smaller version of a Trader Joe's(they are part of the same company). They have a lot of very cool items there, a lot of German brand foods and snacks, a lot of different brands of beers and wines, a good vegetable selection, good deals on different Meats weekly. I go there almost every day and love to walk the different Isles, looking for different little items that pop up for short time, kind of like Costco, if you see it buy it, because it probably won't be there long, it's like treasure hunting. We both my husband and I love this store. The store is always cleans, is easy to find everything, and even though I know exactly where everything is, I like to check every single isle all the time. Employees are always nice and friendly at the check out line but as of late have noticed new employees around, always with a smile and ready to help customers. (For example,I was sort of struggling to get my hot fresh salsa from the 3rd shelf when an employee ask me if I needed help, it was very nice of her) my only complaint is of a new cashier whom seem to be not so friendly and for the second time has told me that his like is closed when there is really nobody in line nor a sign that say so, he made me feel very uncomfortable (not shopping at Aldis anymore but how can I not) not welcoming, discriminated because I am not African American but Mexican. For goodness sake, you don't keep prices low because you push ppl through the line at the speed of lightening. At checkout these cashiers are just scanning your crap like a mad person just to throw everything in a cart u didn't even use and push u out the way. These cashiers don't need to stand or bag and the line is not backed up, so what's the rush? Pretty good finds though. Lots of interesting german brands. Also, found a display for workout equipment. This is a german supermarket chain and I love it. Its fast and efficient. You bring your own 25cents to get your cart which it is returned when you put it back. This allows the to save on employees getting the carts and they can give better prices. They have huge barcodes on products to scan faster and the lines move really fast because they do no bag groceries for you, this a european model and not the tipycal american store. And that is something I love. No music, crazy colors and dozens of each product full of unhealthy ingredients. Its simple own branded stuff like their brother company trader joes. If for some reason you did not bring a quarter you can ask the cashier for a cart or quarter, their website says this and i have to do it most of the time since i always forget, just make sure to give it back :) read more

Great deals on food here. Lots of healthy choices for less than the big grocery chains. It is clean and well organized. The staff is helpful and they have a lot to choose from.
