Super convenient one stop shop location. - Plenty of parking, even on a Saturday - Spacious, clean, and your typical Aldi - simple, organized, and well-stocked. - Checkout lines are still classic Aldi (aka long), but thankfully self-checkout saved me even with a full cart. - Staff always seem to be restocking and keeping things tidy. Pro tips: - Bring a quarter for your cart! Luckily I've had friendly patrons share their quarter with me when I forget. - Don't forget reusable bags! First time at ALDI and I was surprisingly impressed! Their produce section reminded me a little bit of the same setup as Costco! Got everything that I needed, minus eggs. I asked a store employee and wasn't sure when they do have eggs or not. As it is known you do need a quarter to get a shopping cart although I did see some people swapping carts right as they were leaving. Even before the total ban on plastic bags ALDI didn't have shopping bags, one thing I didn't know but lucky for me I did have some in my car on which I transferred my groceries from the shopping cart from. So bring your own bags The cashier was super efficient and fast also! I did purchase some of their store brand products, it seems like the brand name products for some items are priced way high, idk if it's to persuade people to buy their brand BUT pasta sauce for example was a much larger jar and it actually tasted pretty good. Visited this Aldi on 2/3/24 Plenty of parking. It's in the same shopping center as Hobby Lobby, Smart & Final and several small restaurants. Like all Aldi, if you want to use the shopping cart. You will need to insert 25 cent into the slot and return the cart if you want your 25 cent back. I just hand mines over to the next shopper. Upon entering the store, there was a security guard. Cool, great that they had one. He was really overbearing though. Really felt like he was in my space. Especially when I was checking out at the self check out area. Like chill, I am not here to steal stuff and I have money to purchase these items. But anyways, the produce aisle that day was very weak. Not much fresh produce. Meat aisle was decent. The frozen and fridge aisle was well stocked. I was there for some stuff to make a charcuterie board; I did find several cheeses and crackers for a great price. I stopped by this Aldi after spending the morning in Chula Vista to pick up some items on my way home. The place was not as busy as expected, so that was a good thing. I could tell, however, that the morning had already been through, given that a lot of items needed to be restocked. Luckily, most of the items I needed were in stock except for yellow potatoes and some breakfast sausage I wanted. Why would you come here? The prices are on par with wal mart even Ralphs! Quality is not much better and the staff damn near non existent. The few that are there are stacking merch or don't feel like helping customers. Had 2 separated purchases and the guy at the register just put them both in the same pile saying "my bad bro I tried to separate them. I asked him for bags knowing I have to pay for them then he told me "oh they're under the register (self checkout)". He then told the next customer " I don't bag. You have to bag it". Aldi has become my must shop for fruits and veggies during this growing economy and high inflation prices! $2 for 1lb of Strawberries, under $0.50 for cilantro, $0.50 avocados and comparing the size from the $0.50+ price tag I paid for avocados at Smart and Final that were a fraction of the size from Aldi! (SEE PICTURE!) Granted, not everything located in their store is American Name Brand, but the German brand names are pretty close in taste and quantity, without the high price tag. The carts are $0.25 to use but cut out the middle man, and there is no need to pay a person to wrangle in all those wonderless carts in the parking lot. Don't sweat it. As long as you bring your cart back and lock it to the cart in front of yours, that precious quarter will pop back out. Didn't bring a quarter or have one readily available - no worries, there are bags inside, or hey, grab a cardboard box and stash your grocery items inside until you get to the checkout. Still want to do self-checkout? Don't worry, Aldi has those, too! Not all items are cheaper at this store, but Aldi is definitely my first stop before heading to Smart and Final or Grocery Outlet located near the same shopping complex. The store is always kept stocked as it seems that no matter what time of day I come to shop, there is someone always stocking shelves, removing empty boxes, and cleaning up the area. I absolutely love this store! It is my local market since I live close by. The employees are amazing and super helpful! I have no problem with Aldi, it's the idiot that laid out the store all produce is by the entrance and every time I go in it's all jammed up at the door. Its not only a fire hazard but annoying that customers that might not be buying produce have to wait to get through the mob of people. They're also restocking the items which causes an even worse traffic jam I've gone to this store at least 10 times in the last month the same every time. Today it was so bad I just left. I got to the self checkout lane since it was faster, however; security guard was acting weird. Dude kept eyeing me for minutes. The self check out lane I was at had a bit of tech issues then he comes over and sees me struggling and says "no" then doesn't say anything and snatches one of my items from my hands and tries scanning it too; I told him "I tired scanning it but it doesn't work" he then leaves and I had to ask a worker nearby for help to fix it. I won't lie, dude's demeanor is horrible. You guys gotta do better especially if he doesn't have great customer service at all. This my first visit to THIS Aldi's location and my second visit overall to "an" Aldi's store. I spent $211.33 (see pic of my receipt) this time, compared to about $100 the first time around. No quarters for the deposit of the carts time around, which was fine. I went on a Mon afternoon around 3pm, where shoppers could easily be a safe 6 feet of social distancing apart. No real long lines to check out either. The aisles and order of merchandise is set up a little differently at this Chula Vista location (than Mira Mesa one) but no big deal--still same stuff, often in their original manufacturers boxes. This time toilet paper and paper towels lined the shelves! The "generic" store brand (equivalent of Safeway Select) that is much less expensive is "Happy Harvest" (canned tomatoes are .44, tomato sauce .24, as examples) whereas the "fancy label" is called "Specialty Selected" which would be about twice as much---a whole dollar (which is still unbelieveably a bargain). For example, gourmet bread like chocolate chip brioche with "Specialty Selected" brand is $4, which is on the expensive side relatively speaking. But Aldi's even carried Magnum--brand name ice cream bars--for a little over $4.50; Las Palmas enchilada sauce ($2.59 barely for a large can); La Victoria enchilada sauce ($1.75 for large can) are all still bargains compared to regular grocery stories.) An aisle called "Aldi Finds" seem to carry 'special' items, like ethnic international foods, kettle chips that are 40% less fat, gourmet pasta, special sports drinks, beef jerky, and this aisle also had toys and kids stuff. I have to exercise restraint in not buying too much because I only have so much refrigerator, freezer and pantry space. This place is even cheaper than Asian market (and that's pretty epic). Who ever is in charge of this Aldi's... that security guard with thick Russian accent is too damn much. Within one week, he had approached me twice just randomly. 1st time was while I was checking out, he kept asking me questions about the cheese I scanned to purchase. "Is it strong" "does it taste good" ect. I'm just trying to get in and out of Aldi's and this dude is hovering over me asking random questions about cheese. 2nd, which was today, I got 3 items: lettuce, 4 pack of root beer and milk. As I am beginning to check out, he approaches me and tells me that I need to goto the main line. I asked why as there were many self check out lanes open and he said I could not purchase alcohol in self checkout. I told him I don't have any alcohol and he smiled and said move to the other check out lane with somebody checking everyone. I looked around confused and lady next to me started laughing. I repeated that the root beer does not have any alcohol in it. He took the root beer from me, looked at it, smiled, handed it back to me and walked away. What was up with that? When did the minimum wage rent a cop become the store manager? If this happens again, I'm going to start shopping at wal mart. Nice place with lots of variety of food. It has a mix of brand name and generic items. I got my mom some snacks that were seasonal flavored, and gluten free. They take cash and card as payment. The lines get very long in the store even when it's evening time. I like the way they make sure people don't take their carts and abandon them. I like how clean this place is and how productive and helpful the staff are. It feels good to come here and see random new things to try with my family :) read more

If Trader Joe's had a rebellious little sister, she would be named Aldi. This decades-old national grocery store chain with its origins in Germany is styled similarly to TJ, but has a weird generic feeling about it. Even the storefront is emblazoned with the words "Food Market," which catches your eye better than the branded "Aldi." But maybe that is because Aldi sells a good number of products sourced from Europe that may be unfamiliar. So, what of it? You have lots of pre-packaged foods -- though the produce section does have an ample amount of loose fruit -- with a focus on the most commonly used products. While the store offers a decent range of items, the in-group products are not diversified. So, do not expect to find dozens upon dozens of different versions of ketchup, cereals, BBQ sauce or canned fruits. Aldi seems to stick with a select few choices in a broad range of categories. That said, you can purchase: breakfast quiches and breakfast meats; nut snack packs; fair trade ground coffeee; packaged chicken, pork, lamb and beef; sweets like butter loaf cakes, blueberry muffins and spiced cookies; gourmet and sandwich style cheeses (gouda, gruere, goat, cheddar, etc.); and also a decent selection of wines. There's even a household section with items for cleaning and the garden. But, again, a great deal of product, but not great diversity within each product type. And the prices are very affordable. Why? Aldi's claim to popularity is a business model that cuts out the fat, or the fluff. You will not find pharmacies, banks or other side businesses running inside an Aldi. You won't find a butcher standing behind fresh cuts of meats and seafood on display. You won't even find a person at the end of the cash register on hand to bag your groceries. I love Aldi. I was very excited when the location in San Marcos opened and was venturing up there about once a month. This location is only 10 minutes from my house. I am a happy shopper. I love the idea of Aldi, lower priced groceries since they are their own brands, you bring your own bags, you bag your own groceries, and you rent a cart which makes you bring the cart back to the store so they don't have to employee people to retrieve carts. I don't mind any of this if it keeps my grocery bill down. I have tried many of the items from fruits and veggies to meats, frozen items, snacks, beverages, and holiday items. I have not had anything that disappointed yet. They also have a guarantee on their items which gives me confidence in their items. I really love the special items they brought out for Oktoberfest as well as the Christmas items. A lot of the items are produced in Germany and are authentic German items. I've bought strudel, spaetzel, black forrest cake mix, breads, chocolates and soups. All are wonderful specialty items. It's a nice alternative to things you find in a tradition supermarket. I had the opportunity to visit Aldi when I was in Germany this summer and I fell in love with it. The stores are set up pretty much the exact same but the item I wish they would bring over is the pastry vending machine. I loved that I could get a croissant for 0.39 euros. They also had fresh pretzels and other items. Please bring that machine here!! The staff has been great during the opening. I visited I think 4 times in the first week and they still had someone outside at the carts ready to explain the process and even give you a quarter. The staff has been great in helping to locate items and providing fast check-out. This is my new go-to grocery store. Great prices, great quality, fast check-out and nice employees. Finally had the chance to stop by & check this store out. I did however go to Smart & Final first (since they're literally at the opposite ends of the same building). Parking lot: Cool set up how the stalls are lined up parallel to another in just one single row. Still, I hate how the stalls are painted slim w/o any breathing room to open doors on either side. Shopping carts: cool idea to shell out the quarter deposit for use. Brightly lit inside: My gosh! Felt like I was walking towards the pearly gates of heaven. It seemed so silent inside the store, feels like you can hear a pin drop. Kinda eerie. I understand Aldi is a new concept for the American shopper.... Since I bought serving utensils & other food items from Smart & Final (coffee creamer- great variety; variety bag of potato chips, tuperware containers for leftovers; plastic serving utensils for our work potluck today) I figured when I walk into Aldi I could grab a fruit try as well. Well, no fruit tray. So, I just picked a bunch of Chiquita bananas, a bag of Gala apples, & the variety of gluten free macaroni & cheese. Oh! And some chips from Germany that were made from potato flour & Gouda cheese! Oh my! They were so yum! But, nothing really seemed to appealing to me here. I mean, to each their own & their grocery preferences. And I really do hope Aldi becomes successful here in San Diego. But, I don't see myself coming back to shop here. read more

I had no idea how much Charcuterie board items Aldi had. I sat in front of the deli and cheese case for at least an hour trying to figure out what cheeses and cured meats I wanted to put on my grazing table. Once I decided on meats and cheeses, I once again was decision challenged by the crackers, jams, spreads, chocolates and other filler items. I then headed to the produce section to complete my grazing table but there is no really great fruit selection there so I hit up my farmers market for produce. Overall I will continue to use ALDI for cheeses and meats but that's all. It ate my cart quarter! read more

Went in to this Aldi today and that store is so unorganized I went shopping for someone who's lost was about average 30 items or less and I was in there for over an hour because there are no signs to tell you what's on what aisle. When I asked an employee where some products were he didn't even show me where he said it is over there you can get it. Really what kind of customer service is that. Like the f****ing pickles I needed 2 different types and they were in different areas of the store aren't all pickles together wtf I will not ever shop at this dam store again. Aldi has really come up since I was a kid. They have so many healthy options and fresh organic fruits now. Normally, they have shopping carts by the door and they require a quarter to unlock and use. They do this so you return the cart but now, since the Covid-19, they have some unlocked and either someone disinfecting them or disinfectant wipes provided for you. They have a selection of products but don't carry everything like larger grocery stores. Their prices are cheaper and their customer service is excellent. They have a small selection of beer, wine, hard seltzer and hard cider too. When you check out, you do have to bag your own groceries, again this helps cut down costs. They are obeying all Covid-19 guidelines and have changed their store hours to restock and clean. read more

So the thing is, I've never actually been to an Aldi before, and this was my first trip. I was not necessarily impressed with this store, and I found it quite odd, actually. I did not know that it was set up to be a much more condensed version of the typical grocery store - in having a much smaller selection than the average store. It was just kind of peculiar - some items come normally, some you can only buy in bulk. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason for how any specific items are sold. You have to pay to use the shopping carts (I believe $0.25), and you have to bag your own items. I don't know - overall, the things I bought from there were decent quality, but it was just a strange experience, and I don't know that I would shop there again. read more

You can tell that there are good people who work here. They take pride in their jobs and serving customers. I have been here multiple times and have never had a bad experience. But I have a confession - I love me some Aldi. Smart shopping! I love the snacks ( chips/cheese ) I like their US brand "Claneys". Came here to check it out and not sure what all the Hype is about? So they don't giveaway bags so bring your own or buy their own cute shopping bag. They're not big grocery store they offers smaller inventory but they have meat, produce, dairy, and gym stuff! Cool! Hey I love the Cheese section. Say Cheeze!!! Guess what their return policy is pretty sweet if you're not happy bring it back for a replacement and a refund;) pretty cool? So Aldi grocery empire is a lil bit confusing and technically related to Trader Joes. What? It involves 2 brothers who parted ways and split the company into Aldi Sud and Aldi Nord. The latter one is the parent company of Trader Joes. (Wikipedia -subsidiaries of TJ. ) It's a fun fact and I thought you should know. Overall no coupon to save. Just smart shopping. Many people have mixed feelings about Aldi stores. I belive they are miss informend The Aldi brothers are german family that have been seccucesfully running groceries stores all over europe with enormous success. So much so, that are the owners of our beloved Trader Joes and have transformed from a local SoCal groceries atore to nationwide stores and also manage to completely push out the Fresh and Eassy British stores. Their prodcut quality is not less then the Trader Joes, Vons, Ralphs or Shop Rite. In some of their products are in fact superior both in price and quality. They opened in the US with the intention to be a solid contedent to compit with the giant Walmart. I personally think they are doing a great job at it. Visiting Aldi brings me great memories about my days in Germany. Aslo selling their paper and plastic groceries bags is a good idea. You will often forget to bring your own bags but one of this days you wont even think about it and you will be oficialy green :)) Vist and give them a try. read more

I attended the grand opening, and scored one of their reusable shopping bags. Very European. I also noticed that the grocery carts are freed up with a quarter deposit, just like in Germany, although over there, the deposit is one Euro, worth about $1.20 lately. The store was brand new and immaculate, if somewhat Spartan. Once again, the European look. I also noticed many house brands, and a limited selection of each type of commodity. This is how Aldi makes money. You won't find five or six brands of butter, for example, just two, probably. This cuts down inventory cost like crazy. They know what they're doing. On the other hand, many people bask in choices, so Aldi is not for everyone. It is a very budget-friendly place, though, for sure. The parking lot is newly paved and quite spacious. My wife, the German, also visited, and found Aldi to be Americanized, yet somehow still familiar to her. I agree with that assessment. We are both fans. read more

Attended the open house event today that introduced the store to the neighborhood. Great prices on everything, including organic food. I also noticed some European-style fresh baked breads like brioche, brötchen (hard rolls), ciabatta and baguettes. A few things drive the prices down: 1) The store is mostly private label products; 2) you bag your own groceries; 3) you either pay for each plastic bag or use your own reusable bag; and 4) you rent a cart for a $0.25 deposit & get your deposit back after returning the cart. Don't miss the middle aisle of "ALDI Finds", which are updated weekly on Wednesdays. ALDI Finds are consumer products offered at rock-bottom prices. For their opening, Barbie dolls are $9.99, an Ambiano blender is $24.99, Serra genuine suede ladies boots are $17.99, a silicon baking mat for $9.99, and so on.
