The crust is cripsy, but not over cooked. it had a lovely crush and chewing texture. This pizza probably was the best sauce i ever had. If you like TRUE NY style pizza this is it. OK. I'm from Long Island visiting my brother at the VA. LI has the BEST NY pizza. I saw Alberts had five five stars. I decided to try it. Alberts Pizzeria pizza is VERY close to NY pizza. Nice thin crust. Tangy sauce. Plenty of cheese. Good toppings and a great price. I'd go back in a minute. The only suggestion I would make is to suggest they cook the pie a bit longer to crisp the crust and slightly caramelize the cheese. Go. They're good. I don't know if it is just the escape from work or the El Salvadorian owners, but I love this pizza place. The pizza is New York style, sold by the slice or pie. The friendly owners my be from Central America, but the pizza is very North American. The subs and salads are pretty good as well. If you work at the VA this is a great place to pick up or eat in. The building may be old and run down, but it makes me love the pizza even more! read more

For those reviewers who say that this is the best New York pizza in Richmond, you may be right, but this is not representative of New York slice style pizza. It's not bad, but it isn't anything like you'd get in Brooklyn or manhattan. I'd like to rate those reviewers with one star for having me go out of my way to this place with high hopes only to have them dashed when the food arrived. And what they call Stromboli is a calzone. It's always a warning sign when they have a menu item that reads calzone/Stromboli because these are two very distinct kinds of food. I freaking LOVE this place! Whenever I'm home, I always put a special request in to make sure we visit this place. I've been a fan for a long time even before my YELPing days (say what!?!) But this place is just awesome. There are so many reasons...here's just a few: The staff and owners are amazing! They are always friendly, remember your name and provide service with a smile and a "thank you". The prices here are super reasonable. For the quality and amount of food you get it's worth every penny. This place is CLEAN...There is never anything out of place, you can see all the way in the kitchen where they are preparing your food and it's flawless. And let's not forget they received a perfect score on the restaurant of the week! Whoo! They just have damn good food. Sorry to have to be the guy to bring the rating down a notch. It's me, not the place. I am stingy with 5 stars. This was my first experience and it was a solid 4.5. Came here for lunch in the mood for pizza, but when I saw the calzones, I went for that. The calzone was delicious and reasonably priced, the sauce was a bit thin and had some "carroty" after tones, it was still good, but not 5star. The menu was quite diverse for what I presumed to be a "pizza joint", my buddy had the linguine with clams in white sauce for $10 and he thought it was pretty good as well. If you're around this area and are in the mood for Italian, you could do worse than this place. The area is a little sketch and the outside of the place is a bit urban-rustic, but inside was clean, the staff friendly, prices reasonable and maybe most important, the food is good. I went here with my boyfriend while I was in Virginia, and wow. The pizza is 'amazing'! The cheese, the sauce, the crust. I'm a two piece max kind of girl, but I went fat girl on this pizza. We ordered a pepperoni and mushroom with extra cheese, and just wow. Melt in your mouth delicious. We didn't try anything else, but saw a few people eating their pasta, and it looked mouthwatering. I only gave it four stars because we only had a small portion of the menu, but this might be adjusted once I go visit him again and make him take me here! Definitely would suggest it to locals and out-of-towners. Amazing pizza. P.S. I may be a little biased because my boyfriend is El Salvadorian, but the El Salvadorian owners seemed really nice, and the staff was nice enough. :) But it is definitely a Latin influenced establishment, aka the tvs and decorations. This establishment displayed some really unprofessional behavior. I was very disappointed to call and be told that I could possibly place an order even though it was close to closing, as the prefer walk-ins only apparently when it's 30 mins before they close. They put me on hold to confirm the the availability of ingredients and then disconnected the call. When I called back they refused to answer for the next two times and then on the third time they answer the phone stated that they wouldn't be taking call in orders only walk-ins and hung up again without allowing me to say a word. This Behavior makes absolutely no sense considering if I called ahead they would be able to prepare my order and give it to me immediately upon arrival. I would have been willing to pay over the phone. Instead they stated that walk-in orders would be taken only. So I could walk in at 9:50 and make them stay later to make my food as opposed to calling ahead and having it ready when I got there. I was Very disappointed and confused by the logic and I will not patronize this establishment because of this incident. read more

Closest you're going to get to NY pizza in South Richmond. Perfect crust. Just the right amount of cheese and sauce. And they have it by the slice. Calzones and subs are great too. Take out is your best option considering the Latino channels on the TV and the very basic dining area, but they make a great pie with a great crust for the right price. read more

Perfect pizza, thin and crispy with the perfect blend of spices. Every time I am in the area I stop to get a slice. They are huge!

I had an allergic reaction after they scraped the jalapenos off my food instead of remaking it. Before that experience I would have gave them five stars cause the service and food has always been great. I don't know if I will be going next time I go through south Richmond. read more

All of the reviews talked about it being as close to NY pizza as they have ever tasted. It is here where I disagree. I have been to NYC many times and never miss the chance to enjoy the best pizza in the world. So when I read all the reviews I was so excited. Unfortunately we were a bit let down. We wanted to try a new place because we have our favorites that really and truly give NY pizza a run for the money. It didn't come close to our favorites. I expected a super thin crust with just a tad of grease on top. I wanted to be able to fold it in half to eat it. I wanted to go through a ton of napkins because the pizza was so messy (in a good way). None of that happened. Finally took a drive down Chippenham pkway and found this place and am glad I did. I have lived in Richmond for 27 years and have made it my mission to find the best pizza in town.
