Just the words locally owned business and fresh pasta (and tasty!) should already make your heart sing. They have so many pasta types and depending on the pasta and day, they can be garlic, spinach, herb, etc infused. It's like a create your own pasta. They had a recent menu change so unfortunately the chicken masala is no longer there . I love the countless options and combos! I definitely want to try to get as many options as I can. I got a pesto chicken with cute shell pasta and Rose fettuccini with chicken. Overall, the pasta is kinda dry with less/little sauce and the pesto was unexpected (herbs and lemon/oil?). I got the fettuccini with extra sauce which was ample (keep in mind there's a one dollar charge for extra sauce). Much flavor and seasoning overall though! Price was, it is definitely worth it! Parking might be tight but that's the city for you. The place is modern and aesthetic. They have many types of pasta and ravioli for you to buy for yourself too! The staff was very nice, conversational, friendly, and helpful! The pasta is freshly made so there will be a wait time as expected.
No need to search for the best pasta in Richmond because Bombolini is where it's at!! Nestled in the Fan, you're greeted with all the good smells of fresh Italian food immediately when you walk in. They offer a variety of pastas and sauces to pair together, it would be surprising to find something you don't like. Each bite of pasta has a chewy/bouncy texture, you can tell it's homemade!! I love a good family owned business because you can truly feel the love and passion they put into the food, service and just the overall experience of your visit. This place has it all! You will need to parallel park on Main St. but it should be pretty easy to find a spot. PS - The building has just been re-painted lime green, you can't miss it!
I was very excited to try Bombolini for the first time, as it's in a popular location on Main Street and have always heard good things. Unfortunately I was not incredibly impressed with my experience. The location was really nice, there are lots of homemade options available to look at while you are there. Everything is pretty made to order, and the sauces / pastas are heated and combined to make each individual dish, as there are so many sauce and pasta options. It took a little longer than expected, which was ok, and there is no seating inside, just a couple small tables outside, which makes this more of a to-go option. I ordered the squid ink linguine with Alfredo sauce and chicken added in. Everything was good, and it was a very full portion of pasta, but I came away a little unimpressed and expecting something more. I thought the pasta broke apart easily so it was difficult to get a full fork, and I just wasn't blown away by the flavors. I will return and try a different combination of sauce and type of pasta to see if it was one bad experience, as I have heard plenty of good things about this location prior.

This place deserves all the accolades that I have to offer. It's the most charming market. The walls are brick, exposed pipes and beams, just such a charming set up. It's also very large which is unlike most of the other markets in the area. It tripes as a market, a casual take out spot, and a distillery. The owner is incredibly humble and you can usually find him there working. There are dried pasta, fresh pasta, jars of sauce, and even gift baskets that you can purchase from the market. It's a lovely idea if you feel like making some very fresh dinner without the headache of making pasta. I'm a SUCKER for house made pasta so I had to eat in. There are a myriad of combinations. I settled for the black pepper fettuccini and creamy Alfredo sauce. Pure. Comfort. Pure, unpretentious, simple comfort. Ever since I've tried it, I've dragged all of my loved ones with me and made them believers as well. Overall, it's one of my favorite casual spots in Richmond.

I love how you have the option to customize your dish by the pasta type. They even have different flavors of pasta, including spinach, roasted garlic, black pepper, spicy tomato, and tomato basil. I've tried the carbonara, chicken rose, chicken marsala, and smoked salmon pastas, which were all delicious. The dishes are not oily and seasoned well. You get a lot of pasta for a little under $10. I always have leftovers to bring home afterwards, which is perfect for busy college students or young graduates. Bombolini is also a mini market, so you can even buy pasta and sauce to cook, as well as wine. The service here is great. The cashier is so nice and welcoming and even offers help with the menu. Plus the wait for the pasta is fast, at most waiting 10 minutes.

And that is a regret I'll have to live with. This place is just great. The workers are friendly, there is fresh pasta constantly being made. They also have different flavored pasta: garlic, black pepper, etc. Just check their board! The 2 I tried were the salmon with spaghetti noodles, and carbonara with garlic pappardelle. So so good. Will definitely make this one of my go-to places for pasta.
I've been to Bombolini a few times in the past. I'm not sure why I stopped going, because they do have wonderful food. I returned 2 days ago, my first visit in five years. I went i specifically to get a Caprese Salad to go. It took perhaps 10 minutes to prepare and I was on my way home. Once home, I weighed the salad... a very respectable 9.83 ounces. Ingredients appear to be Fresh Mozzarella (lumps), Fresh Tomatoes (sliced), Fresh Basil (minced) Fresh Lettuce (shredded), and a Vinaigrette drizzle. Yum. I'll be returning to Bombolini specifically for the Caprese Salad. It was very good. To get a better CS, I'd have to go to Williamsburg, Ann Arbor, or Austin. But here in River City, it is the best bang for the buck at $5.99. I'd like to give 5 stars, but I observed the man preparing the salad using ungloved hand(s) in contact with the food, however briefly.
Bombolini is hidden on Main st between Baja and home team grill. When you walk inside, it's half store half take out restaurant. There are a few tables but not enough for a big group or lots of people to eat in. I was surprised at the cheap prices for the quality of food! The pasta is made in house & you can watch them cook your meal. I got the carbonara with fettuccine. It was delicious! The staff was also super nice. I didn't realize until after that you can get different flavors of the pasta, so I'll have to try next time.
I love their fresh made pastas!!! Today I got my favorite black pepper pappardelle pasta. Picked up some hot sauce and a little drinky drink!!! Love the owner...he's so friendly
I'm all for local places because the service is always great and I'm all about supporting local businesses. I've heard such great things about this restaurant so I gave it a try (with a group of friends who have already been and swear by it). I ordered the Alfredo over fettuccini and my friend ordered the meat sauce over the spaghetti and i tried both and they were both DELICIOUS. The meat sauce over the spaghetti especially, the flavor of the sauce is PERFECTION. And the noodles were the perfect consistency. The service was also great and everyone seemed to love their meals. They sells lots of other things also like wine and noodles and frozen pasta, I'd try it someday! For now, this restaurant is definitely some place I will return for delicious pasta for a great price!
Highly recommend this place for fresh YUMMY pasta at a really decent price! The moment we walked it, the cashier was really helpful with explaining their menu since it was our first time. It was really neat, because not only can you pick the type of pasta you want, BUTTT also the pasta flavor! It varies from squid ink to even pumpkin! My boyfriend ordered the alfredo and I orded the carbonara. Once you take the first bite of the pasta, right away you can tell the pasta is really fresh! I thought the carbonara was okay, but the bacon in the pasta was really good! I think I like the alfredo a bit better though. Will probably come back to try the other pasta sauces! Portion wise, it was a good amount for what you're paying for! Not only that, but for two pastas, it was 15 dollars! What a deal!
My review from 2014 (omg - 8 years ago!) is long overdue for an update. This shop is owned by the loveliest husband and wife team that is one thing that has remained the same. Well, that and the quality of the food. Beyond that, almost everything else has leveled up and I'm here for it! Instead of looking more like a warehouse, it now looks like a cozy spot to plop down and have lunch or an early dinner with a glass of wine. I love that they now have a brewery inside and tons of prepared foods in the fridges! They have also developed spices that look amazing. This time, I ordered the carbonara which, of course, was fresh and amazing. Everything here is reasonably priced. I have not wanted a business to succeed quite as much as this one. It makes me so happy to see the growth that has happened over the last few years and I hope it continues to increase! read more
LOVE THIS STORE! I'm not sure if she's the owner but the woman working was so friendly and helpful. They have so many fresh pasta options including gluten free. There is also a small distillery within the store with a bar to sit and enjoy drinks. A few patio tables outside as well. And the best part is they allow dogs inside! This will be a regular stop of ours for fresh pasta, sauces, and more. read more

I'd like the cheesesteak, just meat and cheese. "Just meat and cheese?" Just meat and cheese. My day is ruined and my disappointment is immeasurable. The tomatoes that were on there were flung into the trash before I got a photo. I wouldn't be so upset if there were more than two bites of steak. $10 down the drain. read more
I was excited to try this place out, and unfortunately was disappointed. I got the garlic roasted fettuccini Alfredo, and was expecting fresh pasta and it looks and taste worse than the frozen pasta you get at the grocery store. I had to take it home and add a little butter and olive oil and some extra seasoning just so I can be able to finish eating it. I believe the reviews and I'm sure it's good to some people but this place isn't for me. Despite my pasta, it was a great ambience on the inside and they had a nice wine collection that I may try out. As for the food I think I'll stick to Olive Garden. read more
Super cool and cute neighborhood restaurant/distillery/store!! Service was spectacular, and the pasta I had was good! The veggies in the pasta in particular for me was great bc of the way they were so thinly cut. Store had tons of wines, and they offered free tastings of their whiskey, too! I came here with a friend who had heard about this place and really wanted to try it. It's only open until 7PM on weekdays, but since it was First Fridays, they were staying open later so I was able to grab dinner around 7:30PM from them. They layout of the store is very open. They have some goods for sale on the right wall, and the kitchen is visible on the left. Their menus is simple: pastas and sandwiches. I decided to do the "make-your-own" pasta and picked squid ink mostaccioli with tuna + cream sauce. The portion size was fairly large, so the prices are fair. My pasta was served in a circular aluminum tin (i.e. takeout container), even though I was eating in at one of the few tables in the store. Service was fantastic. All of the employees were super friendly, and when I decided to order the broccoli soup (sold chilled to take home), the worker offered to heat the soup up for me since I planned to eat it there with my pasta. =) In addition, we were checked on repeatedly throughout the meal. Everyone just seems so nice and passionate about their food! Speaking of food, the real winner and reason I rated five stars is because of the pasta. The dish was phenomenal. Flavors were superb, and what stood out the most was the freshness of the pasta. The pasta had a nice, chewy texture which I loved as well. Located in the nook and cranny of Main Street, Bombolini is a spot in Richmond that you do not want to miss . Fresh pasta, irregularly yet chunky and delicious piece of chicken, and great staff. I asked the dude what is his favorite is and he said the chicken marsala, and I totally ignored it because I thought the chicken rose was better. I guess I was right. The place looks larger than it is and it's definitely worth stopping by to eat some noods read more

Decided to get some fresh pappardelle pasta from Bombolini to make with my beef ragout. I opted for the roasted garlic flavored pasta. $5.99 per pound. They have every kind of pasta here and lots of flavors. The pappardelle was delicious with my ragout! Absolutely will be my go to spot for fresh pasta! read more
I pass by this place a lot and thought that their noodle daschund was adorable so I had to pop in to try their pastas! Inside you'll find their staff making pastas in an industrial looking market with an assortment of goodies ranging from their house made pastas and sauces to olives and beers. Their pre-packaged pasta is about $6/lb which I think is really steep even if they make it themselves. Not to fret, they also offer their huge variety of pasta flavors [ranging from plain to squid ink] in their take-out dishes which are all under $9 and they give you a hefty amount of food enough for 2 meals. They have a large black board which lists their daily dishes, sandwiches, and pastas. The staff there were really friendly and our server [who I believe was the owner] guided us through the process of selecting our sauce, noodle flavor, and noodle type. They even let us mix two noodle flavors in our dishes. I tried the chicken rose sauce with garlic and black pepper fettuccine. I thought that the chicken rose sauce had a good amount of meat and was very creamy. However, the dish could have benefited from a little more spice and larger chunks of tomato just to really boost the flavors. I had to really focus to distinguish the actual flavor of the pasta itself but I thought that the fettuccine went really nicely with the sauce. My boyfriend ordered their meat sauce with plain and squid ink spaghettinni [similar to angle hair]. The sauce was fresh but could have used a little crushed red pepper and larger chunks of meat. The spaghettinni however was not a good choice for the sauce since it did not hold its texture. The noodles became mushy and compacted in the take out tray. The sauce was very hot and it just overcooked the delicate noodles. Overall, I did enjoy my experience here and I will come back to try their other sauces and pastas. A little disappointed in the pasta sauce we had, but did enjoy the fresh pasta. The shop is cute and food smelled so good we decided just to eat there on one of the 3 or so makeshift tables. Walking around the store also noted the freshly made vinegar and had a sample. The garlic pasta initially didn't seem to have much flavor but after trying the spinach pasta the garlic really comes out and I would get the garlic again. The red sauce was much too sweet for my liking, reminded me of Ragu, and just a bit bland. I would give the place another try but probably not get a red sauce. For the price you get a pretty good portion of pasta, at least 2-3 servings. Food is made to order. Guys working there are super nice. read more

Cute little gem I found while I was out visiting my sister in rva. I LOVE pasta so when I found out this little place makes homemade fresh pasta, I had to check them out. When you walk in, it's very cute and like a pasta factory like, they also have a distillery in the back where they make their own alc. it's very cool ! I got to try a few testers of their drinks while I waited for my pasta to be made, I then ended up purchasing a bottle of their seasonal pear and fig vodka which I really liked. The pasta was good, the noodles were a little on the thicker side and the meatballs were a little too hard and not soft and tender enough for me. read more

I have always driven by this restaurant, saw the cute dog on the outside and have been meaning to stop by. Finally pulled the trigger for some take out in this social distancing age. Got fusili with meat sauce, added chicken and veggies, and then fettuccine with alfredo sauce, added meatballs and veggies. The fusili was soft and tender, the meat sauce was hearty, full of flavor, I bet you could get by without ordering a meat and just go with the sauce. Vegetables include yellow squash, zucchini, mushrooms. The fettuccine sopped up the alfredo incredibly - still very tender - the sauce was light, not too heavy. And the meatballs - oh my goodness - juicy, hearty, not too heavy, beautiful pink color on the inside. If I were to do it again probably the meat sauce and the meat balls. This is a ton of food - although did manage to almost finish one whole container - at $8, $2 for every addition - well cost efficient and really fresh pasta. Will plan on trying the take home pasta and sauce next time. read more
ICONIC Richmond. This little pasta place is so fresh. Custom and fresh are the key words here. Also, affordable! This little eatery is charming and old school in a way. I walked into a charming space with good wine selections, European desserts (frozen tiramisu, chocolate truffles), and wonderful staff. You can get takeout or eat there. I couldn't believe that each bowl of pasta was around $7-8 and the pasta is made fresh. You can choose what type of pasta shape and what sauce/flavorings you want, so you can always mix up the flavors and pastas! I was a bit overwhelmed with not knowing what I wanted to combine, but there was a kind woman who gave great suggestions. I ordered pasta with white sauce and one with red sauce. The red sauce pasta had the Chicken Rose sauce with herb seasoning and I chose the pappardelle noodles with it. The sauce was very flavorful and I just love any sauce with a wine reduction in it. Generous slices of chicken were incorporated throughout and there were real, crushed tomatoes signaling that they make sauce from scratch. My other dish was Alfredo with mushroom and spinach flavoring (makes the noodles green!) and I chose the fusilli noodle shape with this one, they look like corkscrews. I love mushrooms, and so it was creamy, flavorful, and oh-so-mushroomy. Since it was Valentine's Day and I was treating myself, I also got a box of imported truffles which aren't too sweet, but the chocolate melts in your mouth. In total for two generous bowls of fresh-made pasta and truffles, my total was around $25. I walked in and placed and order and sat at one of their nice wooden tables for around 10 minutes, and bada-bing bada-boom, fresh pasta. Please visit and support this local RVA business. :) read more
This place and business is one of my favorite casual spots in RVA, that also delivers as much value as deliciousness. I remember them selling their wonderful homemade pastas at the Forest Hill Park/South of the James Farmer's Market in what seems like ages ago. (07-08?). They have pasta for EVERYONE. Gluten Free? They got you covered. Vegan? they got you. In fact, a huge treat for my Vegan twin daughters, @gemelasveganas, is when dad brings home ravioli from Bombolini. I love the freshness, flavor, & value choices of their fresh pasta, and the varieties of types you can get them in. (Check out their website-you'll be amazed). Walk in. Order FRESH roasted garlic entire sheets for a lasagna at $5.99 a pound, (CHEAP!), and walk out happy. Walk in. Order freshly cut squid ink ANYTHING, and impress your friends and family. Walk in. Order any cut of any flavor of pasta here and enhance your life. We had the Roasted garlic fettuccine with mushrooms & a great meat sauce as well as their Spaghetti carbonara, the day we decided to eat-in there. No frills served in very convenient to-go dishes. Accompanied by very good house reds. Their Trial & Error distillery within their business, produces rums that I think rival anything on ABC store's top shelves, and again, at a great value. John & Lolita, the owners, are as hard working as they are humble and helpful. Cute little shop that smells delicious! Great selection of frozen food, sauces, pasta, beer and wine. There's a distillery too! We had the carbonara and the Mac and cheese with sausage. Both were a ton of food and we barely ate half! read more
