I moved away from Eugene 9 or so years ago but am still trying to find a gyro as good as this place. I started reminiscing of some of my favorite places in Eugene and am so glad to see this place is still kicking. I have to imagine if they were making it back in the recession of 2008, they are killing it now and it is well deserved. I always went for the basic lamb gyro and fries. This place kept me alive due to great food at a price I could afford back in the day. Was craving a gyro so made a trip out of my way to come here. Worth the stop if you are in the area or if you really want a gyro or falafel. The sizes of the gyro and falafel plate are both really good especially for the price and they taste equally as good as any I have had anywhere else. DELISH. We stopped by while visiting Eugene for a little event (from Salem). We were looking for some flavor, and hubs found great reviews of Albees for their gyros, garlic fries, and falafel. Others raved about their dolmas, but I found them just greasy and bland. But each of the other things we had were a knock out of the park win. Falafel had great texture and flavor, and was crammed into a warm pita with the perfect amounts of greens, olives, and tzatziki. The gyros had warm, flavorful meat and likewise ample toppings. The garlic fries are a simple, but amazing, side. Bring your breath mints (and maybe Rolaids) but regardless, SO WORTH IT. Service was fast and friendly, the items are made right there in front of you. The place is small, with just a handful of counter seats. The place is just an oddly poorly used space, and while it's clean enough to pass inspection, it's kinda skanky. That's okay... take your bag of amazing flavorful goodness and go find a park and eat it in the car. But you're going to need to hit the highway with the windows down after you throw away the trash to clear out that garlic smell! read more

Nothing special. I got the gyro pita and it was simply so so. The ingredients didn't taste that fresh either. I've had the gyro pita at Tradewinds and THAT is to die for good, so in comparison this was disappointing. It wasn't bad, just not worth it in my opinion. If you want delicious, made to order falafel, this is the place. Family vibe, no frills, just super good food at great prices. There are only four seats at a small counter inside, and a few sets outside of you catch a nice day. Otherwise, this grub is perfect to-go! warning; foodborne illness alert! disgraceful business; was served a cacophony of greasy 'mediterranean' plates, all from a young man who couldn't understand why I was surprised that his falafel store didn't have any hummus on site. My spanikopita came out looking like the creature out of the black lagoon; and after eating a few bites - I decided not to finish. This unfortunately, could not help the next 24 hours of torture to my bowels that unfolded, as I experienced food poisoning to finish off my dreadful experience at Albee's. To add a cherry to this tale, I did try calling in to report said illness, as a culinary professional myself, i'm aware this is the right move. I called to a few disgruntled teens, to whom I asked to speak to the manager, they told me Albee wasn't around and he'd call me back. It's been almost a week, i've gotten no call. Awwww, I love this place. Yes, it's kind of a hole-in-the-wall. Yes, you walk in and there's basically no place to sit. Yes, they use a screen door. But if you're walking past and you're not magnetically pulled in by the tantalizing smell of that gyro meat, are you even alive, bro? 10/10 would recommend the gyro junior; it's a great size and will make sure you've got room for the garlic fries. (Both for under $10, btdubs, so you can keep your budget!) The garlic fries are seasoned and then covered in minced garlic. You'll be a garlic-breathing dragon, but hashtag worth it. It's a small place, and any time I've gone in there's only one guy working, so it can take a minute if they've got more than one customer. The wait is worth it. Unless they're having like a crazy bad day, you won't be disappointed. read more

Stopped in here after seeing good reviews on yelp so we came in for lunch. It did not disappoint! In fact, it was even better than we expected. The man working (Ken?) was so so kind and even let us try a bunch of samples of things while we ate. We got two Gyros and garlic fries. They were SO good. OH MY GOSHHHH...... albee's you truly blew my mind. been looking for a good gyro place after leaving portland and moving here, and went out in a limb and tried you guys.. i'm blown away. the flavors are absolutely insane, literally addictive and mouth watering. you can smell it on the street. fresh as day ingredients, amazing taziki, and super cool appetizers! plus the guy who works there is so so so nice!! totally made my day, he was so pleasant and made me feel at home like I was family. super dope retro sodas too. and very affordable. 10000/10 recommend!!!! read more

Took a client to Albee's for lunch, he was blown away and loved the Gyros. Funny thing is a delivery driver for GrubHub was there picking up an order. He asked us about the food saying, "I get to smell a lot of food but it smells awesome in there (we were seated outside), is it as good as it smells?" We replied, "It sure is!" Being from England, my husband has been searching for the perfect kebab shop for three years. You see, kebab is what the English call gyros and it is one of their three favorite "after drinking" foods. The other two being a curry or meat pies. I don't know what New Yorkers expect from their gyros, but we were perfectly delighted with Albee's offering. It wasn't as big as an English kebab and it didn't have the variety of meats in one wrap, but otherwise it was a delicious and filling substitute for the food my husband misses most in his home country. The garlic fries were really tasty and the baklava was gooey and sweet and delicious. Everything about this simple meal offered new tastes to be appreciated. As we got up to leave, the friendly young man behind the counter said "See you next week" and you know what? I think he's right. We will be visiting Albee's again and again. read more

A class act. I went here for the first time this past week and just ordered the standard gyro. The counter guy and the guy who made my sandwich were both incredibly friendly but not smarmy. Perfect customer service. I went outside to eat my gyro and ended up having to pick off some of the olives--it's not that I don't like them, I just found the quantity excessive--after a bit, the counter guy came out and offered to make me another sandwich on the house because I apparently didn't like the olives. I thought this was a really gracious and kind gesture, though i assured him it was good, and the olive issue was my problem. A couple minutes later, he brought me a huge piece of baklava, for free. I didn't ask for it, he didn't charge me for it. He said proudly,"I made it this morning!" And it was some of the best baklava I've ever eaten. Around the time I was getting ready to leave, Albee himself showed up and we chatted for a bit. He talked up his hot dogs (both in the gyro shop and in his cart downtown). Next time, I'll have to try a dog. I'll definitely be back. It's rare in the generally friendly town, even, to get service this good. And the gyro was dope, too. read more

Hit Albee's last night for a gyro and a couple to take togo. Albee was not working but the guy that helped me was great. Food was good,fresh and very big. They now take credit cards which is great. On the bright side, there's a gyro place in Eugene. The gyros are big, if expensive - one is a meal. And, while it's basically a take-out place with some folding chairs out front, Albee is a nice guy. The food is just so-so, though. The gyros are dominated by dry, flavorless pita bread, and while Albee offers a reasonable portion of meat, what should be lamb is this unnatural pressed-and-formed beef/lamb mixture (I'm guessing 90% beef at least) that is pretty bland save for lots of salt and fat. There's a buttload of iceberg lettuce (real gyros do not have lettuce), tomato, black olives, onions, and a pinch of feta cheese, which is nice, but none of this salad makes up for the greasy salty meat or the watery "tzatziki" sauce. Albee, if you're reading this, your tzatziki sauce needs some dill, more garlic, and to have the yogurt whisked in, not blended to death, so it's not so watery. No offense, but it's just not good the way it is. You might accept these things as gyros if you've never had one before, but they are mediocre at best. The falafel tastes like the Winco brand, dried out by standing too long after preparation, and there are several better places to get falafel in town. The spanakopita is okay, although it needs more feta and less salt, an obvious food cost issue. We did enjoy the baklava, for what that's worth. I wanted to give this place three stars, I really did. I like Albee - as I said before, he is a nice guy and he is trying to give this town something different - but the food just isn't very good. I'd give two and a half stars if I could. Check it out...if your palate is tuned to the key of Fast Food, you might like it. read more

My wife and I stopped in, we have been craving a good gyro for a while, and just so happened to be driving through west 11th on our way to Florence. I have seen the ratings on yelp and knew we had to stop! Yelper's did not disappoint on this one. While walking in, we were greeted from what I believe was Albee. He was very attentive and extremely friendly, even let my wife and I sample some of the gyro meat and yogurt. That was great for us, I like people who are not greedy with their products, and willing to let you 'try before you buy'. It really was a nice touch! most places simply don't try to do the small things anymore. That is what makes a great business! After sampling the meat, we both knew we had to order a gyro, they were GREAT! you can get anything under the sun on your gyro, feta, onions, lettuce, tomato, whole pepperoncini, olives, and of course tzatziki Greek yogurt. This was a nice touch from just the lettuce, tomato and yogurt options. Gyro was 7 dollars, well worth it. We will definitely be back next time we are in the mood for Greek! Just one minor discrepancy, cash only. So make sure you have some cash in hand! But all in all, it was a 'great' experience. read more

Albee himself made my gyro. He's friendly, laid back and has good hygiene...he will wash his hands in front of the customer. Making the gyro was quick. The outcome was delicious and the junior size was more than satisfying. It's quite inexpensive, too. I'm sure my stomach somewhat disagrees with the pita (since everything with flour seems to blow up in my stomach nowadays), but the instant gratification of the meat mixed with the lamb...smoky, salty and rich....is worth it. And the whole thing is actually quite tasty. Plus Albee was good company; I once opted to eat in the small counter area by the window, which reminded me of eating in hole-in-the-wall, fast food places with kick ass food in big cities like New York and San Francisco (but without much of a view). We visited Albee's a few weeks after it opened during the lunch rush. There were a good number of people in line, ahead of us and behind us, yet Albee was able to provide reasonably fast service to all of us, even though he was the only one working the shop. The menu is simple; choose a gyro, hot dog, falafel, spanakopita , or some baklava. I had the gyro - the meat was well seasoned, the pita was soft, the toppings were fresh. My husband got the falafel, which was crispy outside and soft inside, cooked to order. We got the spanakopita for my daughter and it was warm and flaky. The cost was $6.00 per sandwich, a dollar too much if you ask me, since the seating is so minimal - just a few outside tables and a couple stools inside - but they do provide Sriracha and it's kept clean. I will probably go back if I get a gyro craving. Parent's Note: Your baby is going to have to eat in her stroller because there are no high chairs and the tables won't support a clip on. read more

You know how some people say that hell is like a beer volcano, but all the beer is flat? If hell opened up a gyros shop, Albee's NY Gyros would be it. Let me elaborate. Albee's isn't a terrible gyro. The vegetables and cheese were all pretty fresh, albeit no different from the supermarket variety. The vertical rotating spit is usually a guarantee of gyros done right, but unfortunately the meat is bland, lukewarm, and the texture somewhat gummy (protip: taking the shaven gyros meat to a griddle always makes things better!). The pita could have done well with some griddle treatment as well, for that matter. On the flip side, the guy running the joint seemed to be very nice. And with a few minor tweaks, Albee's gyros could be significantly improved. But until that happens, gyros hell might be your only option in Eugene if you're dead set on one. read more

Went there for the first time and even though the place is super small and not many places to sit since it's more of a Take out place, but anyways the guy working was super friendly explained everything to us and even let us sample the meat which was really good the perfect amount of seasoning on it, I got a gyro and it was so good even tried their falafel which was also really good. Albee's delivers a mouth watering gyro at a very reasonable cost (NY style hot dogs as well). Ingredients are fresh, meat is seasoned perfectly, staff is personable and friendly, and they offer a customer reward program (buy x get y). The only drawback I can think of is the hours in which they operate - closing a little early for my preference. Albee's... you really kick ass when it comes to making gyros and now you have a breakfast gyro on Monday, Wednesday and Friday!? I may have to change my work schedule just to try one of those. I had tried two other Albee's locations and now that I've tried this location it's safe to say that they are consistent and always delicious. The meat is tender, the toppings are fresh and the customer service is on point. This location is small with only a couple bar seats at the window and a couple tables outside so it's best to get your order to go. I will say that while the garlic fries are good they don't really give you very much for $3. I would definitely recommend one order of fries for each person unless you don't like fries or you aren't hungry. The gyros are really good portions but you gotta have your fries! They also have vegetarian options and like I said now they serve a new breakfast gyro. Parking can be tough since it's street parking but you might be able to park in the liquor store parking lot next door if you make it quick!! read more

The restaurant is very small and only has a couple of simple patio furniture style tables and chairs for diners who choose to eat on the premises. The owner was friendly, present and engaged in the business. There was some sort of mix-up at the register; my order was taken by an employee and it was the owner who came out to ask how I had paid and if I had received the correct change.
