We had heard about this Syrian restaurant in Corvallis (we live in Eugene) and had been meaning to go there for dinner with friends, but it just never seemed to gel. Then, on a trip to the Oregon coast, we happened to be going through Corvallis at lunchtime and decided to stop. We are SO glad we did. All of the other Yelp reviews said it was really good, but few mentioned any specific dish. Except for the hummus, which received off-the-chart good reviews. So we tried the Lamb Hummus dish as well as the Musakhan Rolls, which is a chicken with caramelized onions wrapped in fresh grilled bread. Both were excellent with some notes. The Musakhan Rolls said they come with a garlic sauce. The sauce was excellent, but tasted more like a tart yogurt/sour cream sauce to us. Not a strong garlic flavor. The lamb in the hummus was also very good, but kind of bland. We love lamb when it is prepared well (we usually only order from a Middle Eastern restaurant) and this was prepared perfectly. We just felt it could stand a little more flavor or spice. However, the hummus. Oh. My. Word. The hummus. All of those off-the-chart reviews were spot on. The hummus had to be the best hummus we have ever had in our lives. And we eat a variety of foods from a variety of places. It was the perfect amount of garlic and so creamy, we actually used our fingers to wipe the bowl and get that last remaining bits of the hummus. Our service was excellent. It is family-owned and our server was very pleasant and hospitable. The inside is decorated in what appears to be Syrian decor and is nicely done. This place is dirty and was a real turn- off. The food was mediocre and the appetizer and the entree were brought ti us at the same time. I questioned the lamb kabobs that were served to us. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in Corvallis. There aren't many good places and this one stands above. Service is friendly. Food is delish. The ambience and decor is also the nicest IMO. The lamb kebab plate, chicken shawarma plate, falafel wrap, mutabal plate and deserts were all delicious. Only wish the mutabal came with at least 2 wraps to dip. One goes quick and isn't enough for the amount. We all wish we had gone here sooner. I drove from out of town to try their food because they had such great reviews. I was very disappointed to find that they were closed at 7:58 pm even though there website, Yelp, goggle and there hours of operation on their door said that they were open until 9pm. They might have good food, but that's very very very unprofessional to not be open the hours that you advertise. I will not be back. Wow! I've eaten at lots of Mediterranean restaurants and this is the best! Great for vegans (like me) and omnivores alike. If you live in Corvallis then you likely already know and love this Syrian restaurant- and if you're visiting or passing through, like we were, you NEED to know it. Beautiful little lounge with elegant details, friendly service, refreshingly different food stop for Corvallis. I felt like I was in Europe or Italy, due to the charming environment. I wanted to taste food I have not had before, so I chose the mutabal plate vs. baba ghanoush, and basbousa vs. baklava. The bright yellow lentil soup was pureed unlike the darker, American canned version which comes as beans in broth. It was served with slice of lemon, so I squeezed the slice on top of the soup and found it to be a tasty combo. It reminded me of how some Mexican soups are served similarly. Descriptions online noted this soup is vegan, made with lemon juice or water as its base. If youʻre vegan, donʻt just take my word for it, obviously, but many of the foods served here could please your palate. Confirm with your server. The mutabal is similar to the eggplant dish baba ghanoush, but has tahini in it. I thought it was good but my daughter found it unappealing. Their flatbread was giant, twice as big as my hand, and although it looks like a regular olʻ tortilla, it is much, much lighter and was puffy with air. My dessert was described as a semolina cake. It was super sticky with a rosewater syrup. I liked it but could only eat a couple of bites since it was so sweet. It would have been perfect with hot, black tea. Iʻd come again. read more

Here again, this time on a Friday night. Managed to get a spot at the bar for a party of two. Pita and hummus with lamb were amazing. Beef tenderloin kabobs and chicken kabobs as well. This time we had the Maza plate which was a taste of many bites - dolmas, mutabal, hummus, falafel, etc. a good choice for variety. Our group also had the lamb shank and shish taouk plates. Hubs practically licked the plate of the lamb shank dish. The Shish Taouk is extremely generous with rice, salad, yogurt sauce that is garlicky in the most deliciously brutal way, flatbread, all the things. Last time we put our name in and waited. Excellent Syrian food, we found Khalo Naser to be a food gem in Corvallis. Reasonably priced and delicious at lunch. We ordered a large bowl of their thick and hearty lentil soup which came with fried pita croutons all for $5. A round of delicious Syrian spinach pies, triangle shaped pastry with spinach and nuts (no feta, which you might expect with Greek spanakopita, but this is not Greek food) turned out to be a good order at four pies for eleven dollars. We shared a tasty vegetarian plate with smoky baba ganosh, smoky hummus, the absolutely lightest, fluffy falafel and freshly baked Syrian flatbread. The vegetarian platter ($20) had many options, and came with dolmas and two Mediterranean salad sides. Everything baked in-house was so good that we had to take an order of cheese pastries (four for $12) to go. We found the Syrian flatbread and pastry here to be excellent. My wife and I tried this place tonight as we went to Corvallis, OR for work. We had the chicken shawarma and hummus plate as an appetizer which was exceptionally delicious. The hummus was whipped smooth and the chicken was spiced perfectly. We followed that with the chicken shawarma plate and the Soujouk Pie as entrees. Both were wonderful. Had to try this place. Man customer service shined. Love the human to human connection as an oppose to the customer/ business owner. Food was great as well. I had the lamb plate with rice and some assortment of vegetables. Syrian cuisine is Obviously different. The flavor profile on the lamb tasted different .. in a good way. It's the best Mediterranean food in Oregon. When we visit Corvallis several times per year we make sure to eat here at least once (usually twice) per visit. We asked our server for suggestions because we wanted to try everything. We started with Polo juice, amazing and refreshing. Appetizers we had Tabouli Salad and Maza Plate. The flavor was amazing! It was the best hummus I've ever had! This cuisine was truly amazing and homemade! The flavor was like nothing I have ever had and the quality, so good! For our meal we had OVEN BAKED FATAIER Mohmarah Cheese Mama Spinach Pie Soujouk Pie Finished with some Turkish Coffee and Pistachio Baklava! We had one of the best dining experiences ever here! The restaurant itself is cozy and beautiful with a great ambiance. We ordered a variety of things to share because everything looked and sounded so amazing that we wanted to try as much as we could. Presentation and plating of each dish is stunning and it's clear they truly take a lot of pride in the food that they serve. Let me tell you, as gorgeous as the food looks, it somehow tastes even better! Service was impeccable: our server was friendly and helpful. She recommended the Musakhan Rolls which we REALLY enjoyed. Other favorites were the Manoushet Zaatar and Grilled Maria. Even the Hummus is the best I've ever had. We ordered way more than we probably normally would and were so pleasantly surprised with the pricing and value of each dish when the bill came. This is a restaurant that I love to visit for its authentic cuisine. I must admit, the portions are larger than they appear, more than I could ever eat in one sitting--quite a generous serving! Fortunately, the food tastes great even after taking it home and reheating it the next day, which saves me the trouble of cooking. I can't get enough of the desserts here; they're so unique that I haven't found anything like them elsewhere. I would recommend bringing a date here to share the food. New Syrian spot in Corvallis and it's a must-visit! The place is downtown, just a block from the river. It used to be a taphouse/ bar if I remember correctly so it's got this big open feel with tall ceilings, but still feels super cozy. The menu is huge with photos of everything (love that), and everything we tried was packed with flavor. The muhammara was a standout, I'd never had it before. Food is amazing. And authentic. However the service has always sucked. They are so slow. They seat people right next to you. The whole restaurant can be empty and they seat the person right next to you. Tonight they squeezed two people between me and two other people and there are multiple seats at the bar. It takes forever to get your food also. I wish they would get up with American culture because the service is in need of a lot of help and promptness.
