    Nuts!
    Angela C.

I was craving some Turkish delights candy, and found this place on Yelp and bookmarked it. Since I was in Pasadena running errands, I decided to make a stop by here. The shop is small, but charming! Brightly lit with lots of yummy products lined up on the walls and throughout the shop: Dried fruits, roasted nuts, seasonings, buckets of nuts and what I call Turkish delights, but it's called Mediterranean Delights here. I was hoping for the pretty, extravagant ones I saw on the Yelp pictures, but they only had some pre packaged ones in bins. I like that they're in a sealed wrap so they last longer. There are a lot of packaged snack items that would make great gifts. Since I am nuts for nuts, I had to give these roasted treats behind the counter a try. The proprietor there was super friendly and let me try some pistachios before I bought them. There were so many flavor options I had trouble narrowing down what I wanted. I settled on lemon pistachios and sesame peanuts in addition to a few of the Mediterranean delights. The nuts are flavorful and tasted fresh and crunchy. The candies were pretty good also. All the loose items are sold by the pound and prices are pretty reasonable. Highly recommend this shop if you're looking for some fun flavored snacks!

You'd have to be nuts *not* to love Aladdin Nut House. It's a gem. I visited for the first time on Small Business Saturday and was pleasantly surprised at the variety and high quality of the nuts and spices offered here. I asked for a specific type of gift basket and they were able to accommodate me quickly (see my picture of the all-pistachio basket.) I loved the holiday touch on the decoration; just perfect. I also sampled some of the candies and adore the pomegranate pistachio. Service was extremely helpful and prices were certainly reasonable given the high quality. Street parking.

Upon my Middle Eastern Bakery mission, I ran into Aladdin Nuthouse. I definitely had to stop in... I do love my nuts! I was immediately greeted by the smell of fresh roasted nuts and a man at the register who I later found out was the owner, Gary. This store is a dream come true for a nut lover like me. They roast their own nuts everyday. Ranging from different kinds of peanuts to cashews, hazelnuts, many kinds of pistachios, almonds, and anything else you could imagine. These are sold by the pound. This is just the base of what Aladdin Nut House has to offer. They sell a lot of Middle Eastern delicacies which include lots of different tasty products containing pistachio and products directly from places such as Syria. Aladdin Nut House also offers gift baskets and boxes. These beautifully hand crafted baskets can be fill with products of your liking. One of my favorite products is the "Healthy Mix" which is a mix of raw nuts, seeds, and dried berries. I really can't find this at this price anywhere else! Overall, I really enjoyed the selection of products and the very affordable prices. The store is very neat, organized, and clean and Gary is very knowledgeable about his products. Awesome customer service and tasty nuts, what more could I ask for?

I stock up on mixed nuts every time I visit Pasadena. My favorites are the variety of almonds! The smell is intoxicating. You just don't want to leave the store, it smells soooo good!! There are also a variety of dried fruits and other middle eastern sweets. My go to is the loukhoum. I just found out they are launching a new website that will let me order online and deliver to the house...thank god these snacks are healthy!! Happy eating....

Picture of the flavors available. You can get a mixed bag! They all taste great.

There's never enough menus to go around while waiting to order. As a nice gesture, I let those behind me have our menu after we had decided and described the dish I wanted to the women working the counter. This dish was written on their menu by name, a melon prosciutto bowl, but she was very confused and eventually keyed in a prosciutto scramble which was not what I wanted and not listed anywhere on their menu (I double checked). There's not many tables, and nobody seems to clear them with any urgency even though there are always many people waiting to sit down. The last three times I have been there, the food took at least 30-40 minutes to come out after ordering, which is insane for a counter service cafe with a dozen tables. Any time I've asked how much longer on our food, the staff is very dismissive and rude and just barks 'we're busy!' .... OK? You're literally ALWAYS busy, is there not any way you can plan or staff for this in advance? The food runners always seem confused about what food is going where and are inconsistent with bringing silverware. The cherry on top of this last visit is that the rest of my party got their food (again, after about 35 minutes), with a promise that my dish was 'on its way'. We waited ten minutes before approaching the hostile staff at the counter to find... my dish, the scramble that I didn't even order and wasn't on their menu, had been sitting already made for the whole ten minutes. Nobody thought to grab it and deliver it, and when we asked about the dish and wait, were met with hostile shrugs and blank stares. Again, the food is delicious, but I won't be back until they fix their disastrous service and attitude.

When they had penny candy machines, a big taxidermy deer head and the kindest owner. He once gave me and my sibling a big paper lunch bag full of candies! If you grew up in highland park in the 80s, this was the local market. How I miss those days! Highland Park is so different now! Btw Galco's makes some of the best sandwiches! It has such a selection of candy from your childhood, and for kids, random unique gifts to keep them busy. but yesterday...all that flew out the window. I approached the sandwich counter and asked the person working (an angry woman apparently) what her favorite sandwiches are. After she took a minute to complain about how she had been making sandwiches all day and her brain is fried and she didn't really have any recommendations for me (and was seemingly annoyed at me even asking) she looked at the clock and advised that I was 2 minutes too late to order a hot sandwich. literally the 2 minutes she took to complain about her job cost me the sandwich. now, if it was my shop and a nice family came in and asked me my opinion on something and I took a minute or two to say the things that she said I would give them a sandwich and make that sandwich be the last sandwich of the day, but instead apparently my money wasn't green enough for her. She shut it down and two minutes later was out the door. she was rude, and honestly it just seemed that she didn't give an F. Today I called the store to speak with the owner and the person who answered the phone gave me the runaround. it was clear that either the workers didn't want to connect me with the owner or the owner doesn't want to hear the complaint. this place has gone downhill.
