I was craving some Turkish delights candy, and found this place on Yelp and bookmarked it. Since I was in Pasadena running errands, I decided to make a stop by here. The shop is small, but charming! Brightly lit with lots of yummy products lined up on the walls and throughout the shop: Dried fruits, roasted nuts, seasonings, buckets of nuts and what I call Turkish delights, but it's called Mediterranean Delights here. I was hoping for the pretty, extravagant ones I saw on the Yelp pictures, but they only had some pre packaged ones in bins. I like that they're in a sealed wrap so they last longer. There are a lot of packaged snack items that would make great gifts. Since I am nuts for nuts, I had to give these roasted treats behind the counter a try. The proprietor there was super friendly and let me try some pistachios before I bought them. There were so many flavor options I had trouble narrowing down what I wanted. I settled on lemon pistachios and sesame peanuts in addition to a few of the Mediterranean delights. The nuts are flavorful and tasted fresh and crunchy. The candies were pretty good also. I visited for the first time on Small Business Saturday and was pleasantly surprised at the variety and high quality of the nuts and spices offered here. I asked for a specific type of gift basket and they were able to accommodate me quickly (see my picture of the all-pistachio basket.) I loved the holiday touch on the decoration; just perfect. Fyi, their roasted nuts aren't salted (they just say "roasted" but I assumed they'd be salted. Yes I was an idiot for not asking). So being Middle Eastern, we pretty much know who has the best roasted nuts. I came from Beirut back in 87, and we had some of the best roasting houses there. But when we came to the US, it's kind of difficult to find a place that can produce such fresh roasted nuts. I actually stopped by the Aladdin nuthouse yesterday on my way home. I searched for a nut house and luckily I found this place. I bought a couple of pounds of fancy nuts and to my surprise it was probably some of the freshest I've ever experienced. I was immediately greeted by the smell of fresh roasted nuts and a man at the register who I later found out was the owner, Gary. This store is a dream come true for a nut lover like me. They roast their own nuts everyday. Ranging from different kinds of peanuts to cashews, hazelnuts, many kinds of pistachios, almonds, and anything else you could imagine. These are sold by the pound. This is just the base of what Aladdin Nut House has to offer. They sell a lot of Middle Eastern delicacies which include lots of different tasty products containing pistachio and products directly from places such as Syria. Aladdin Nut House also offers gift baskets and boxes. These beautifully hand crafted baskets can be fill with products of your liking. One of my favorite products is the "Healthy Mix" which is a mix of raw nuts, seeds, and dried berries. I really can't find this at this price anywhere else! Overall, I really enjoyed the selection of products and the very affordable prices. The store is very neat, organized, and clean and Gary is very knowledgeable about his products. I stock up on mixed nuts every time I visit Pasadena. My favorites are the variety of almonds! The smell is intoxicating. You just don't want to leave the store, it smells soooo good!! There are also a variety of dried fruits and other middle eastern sweets. My go to is the loukhoum. It's a tiny dive in a nearly forgotten strip of Pasadena in an area where the blabbing of time seemed to stutter with development. You'll see the best mix from the 60's, 70's and 80's all mixing their humble shops while waiting for their trickle of regulars to jingle their hanging door bell. I think that I've jingled their bell off the hook. But the use of the word "nuthouse" implies one of 3 things: 1) That the owner truly DOESN'T understand the dark humor of using a word reserved for psychiatric wards. 2) That the owner DOES understand the dark humor of using a word reserved for psychiatric wards. 3) That the owner COULD CARE LESS and simply calls it like they see it. Frankly, any of those reasons are a good sign. They are either new immigrants filled with their cultural expertise, multi-generational with a sense of humor, or uber-serious about a house filled with nuts. And, we're not just talking about a jar of almonds here and a box of walnuts there. We're talking about wall-to-wall nuts whereby you're left wondering if indeed the shop is actually constructed from nuts. And, I might add, their pistachio-nougat rolls should be sold at the pharmacy because they're so addictive. This is not a negative review of the business; I would like to consider it more informative for those going there for the 1st time. The business is small. They have a selection of dried nuts comparable to what you would find at Sprouts or Whole Foods for example. In addition to the nuts they have some ground spices. They do have some nuggets (goey candy) that seem to made with exotic flavors. The prices are comparable to again, Whole Foods.
