Filthy dirty, horribly rude and unhappy, miserable, phone-checking, distracted staff, obscenely rude sign warning "Do not effing seat yourself!!" Alabama Jack's might best be termed as a "Biker Drive Bar," except for the fact that it is a clean place, well run and orderly. Though it has a lot of varying license plates hanging around, none of those so common women's bras, panties, didoes or the like as found in the Boot Hill, Bimini Bay or other such places catering to the biker crowd. However, I would say that Alabama Jack's is more in reputation than it amounts to in reality. Food wise, the very best I can say for it is OK and with a menu that is at best limited but at least Key oriented in its seafood offerings. Drinks are average in pour and beer selections limited, mostly all bottled with zero craft brews. The service staff, though pleasant, are overworked, rather stretched to their limits. read more

I've been wanting to stop at this place every time I'm going through Key Largo but the timing has never worked out so I made a special trip just to check it out. About an hour from Miami Beach but it feels like you're somewhere so much farther. Right on the canal with lots of trees, it was a very relaxing atmosphere. Lots of tables and plenty of bar seating, our bartender was really cool and gave us recommendations, all were really good. I loved the lima bean soup! When we got the ticket we couldn't believe the price, it was insanely reasonable for what felt like a good amount of food and a few beers. In all my years of going to the Keys I never have taken the Card Sound Bridge. Mrs. K. and I were with another couple who never been to the Keys. I said lets take the Card Sound Bridge. Well I never knew Alabama Jack's existed till this little bypass of US 1. Visited by famous people and enjoyed by all this was my first visit. For starters I had the conch chowder (excellent) and for my main I had conch fritters (good). I do believe that this place is an attraction and something you should see if you visit the Keys. How it has survived all the hurricanes is beyond my understanding of structural strength and integrity. I can say it should not survive a strong wind but it just keeps on cranking out the beers and fried food. read more

This restaurant was OK. I think it is one of those touristy stops that you have to make on your Keys trip. There was nothing wowing about it. The food was pretty good. It's not a 5-star restaurant, but I don't expect it to be. Service was another thing that was just OK. It wasn't particularly busy, but I feel like our waitress did just enough to get an ok. Recommended by a local as we passed through the keys, this charming local favorite is literally a Florida fried food fan's dream come true. We were quickly seated, there are lots of tables in the shade and some along the water but the open air & fans made it very comfortable wherever you sat. We ordered the small seafood platter that came with three sides. The platter was the perfect option if you wanted to try a little bit of everything - conch fritters, crab cakes, boiled & fried shrimp, fried fish, and an assortment of sauces. For our sides we got French fries, sweet potato fries & a side salad. Our server mentioned the conch fritters was what they were known for but I actually wasn't a huge fan. The crab cakes were really delicious and packed with crab meat, the boiled shrimp were chilled which was strange but both the fried shrimp and fish were perfectly battered and delicious! I had a huge urge of driving to key west to have a Bloody Mary, but luckily I stumbled upon this bar that was right in the beginning of key largo. I did not try the food, but I saw others eat and it looked like everyone was enjoying. I did like the Bloody Mary though, The "restaurant" has a dive bar look with dollars all over the bar and license plates from all over. I legit don't understand how this spot only has 3.5 stars on yelp because it's DELICIOUS. Decided to take a little day trip to Key Largo/Florida City with one of my gal pals today and stopped here for lunch. We started with the conch fritter appetizer, which is what Alabama Jack's is known for, and I totally understand why. The serving is HUGE and incredibly flavorful. Also, the batter was super tasty and paired perfectly with the tartar and cocktail sauces they provide. For my entree, I went with the crab cake sandwich and we split an order of cheese fries. The sandwich came with two hearty crab cakes on a soft French roll with traditional sandwich toppings on the side. It also came with what I believe was some sort of mustard sauce. Seriously one of, if not THE best, crab cake sandwich I've ever had. The fries, however, were pretty skippable, but were a nice addition to the meal as the sandwiches don't come with any sides. For the significant portions that are served, the prices (which can seem like a lot at first) are justified. The vibe here is very laid back, which is great. It's right on the water and there are a few waterfront tables if you're lucky to come at the right time. The servers are very attentive and helpful, too. As for parking, there is some directly out front or across the street (just watch out for cars). Will definitely be making another day trip here soon. read more

Alabama Jack's is a shack located out of the way on Card Sound Road which is the only other road that can take you in and out of the Keys when it's main artery US 1 is blocked. It was built in the mangroves in the 1950's by Jack Stratham who may have been from Alabama or possibly Georgia. Jack sold it in 1981 to Phyllis Sague and now her son Mike runs it. The restaurant looks like it was put together with whatever blew in from the last hurricane. Two words I would use to describe it are rustic and quirky. It is open air so don't expect to find air conditioning. It's also a Keys institution beloved equally by locals and celebrities such as Emeril Lagasse and Kathie Lee Gifford. Grandmas and bikers come together to enjoy the water front view and seafood. It is located only 14 miles from Homestead making it an easy run for the people who live in Miami. Alabama Jack's was the first stop on a day trip to the Keys. We ordered the dish they are arguably the most famous for, conch fritters. An appetizer portion was more than enough for three people to share. The fritters were sweet and buttery and loaded with conch. Accompanying the fritters were tartar and cocktail sauce and lemon. They did indeed live up to the hype. If you are planning a trip to the Keys you too will want to make this your first stop. In the afternoons they have live music. An important note is that they close at dusk when the mosquitoes come out and Card Sound Road goes dark since it is not lighted. Don't be put off by the shabby exterior or motorcycles parked out front. A trip here is a visit to the real Keys. read more

If you want an outdoor bar with most everything fried...you've found Alabama Jacks. We were seated promptly, the staff was friendly. We tried the fried conch fritter, and yes it was good, but to make it good, they use some type of sugar, it's sweet. We also ordered the fish dip and conch salad with chips. Both were good, but the price seemed VERY high (see pics). The dip seemed to have too much mayo, and the salad could have used more cilantro. Took a ride on the bike to Alabama Jacks. The restaurant was totally filled with about a 30 minute wait at 3:00 on a Sunday. I ordered conch fritters, they were shaped like a pancake rather than typical fritters. The oil that the fritters were cooked in tasted stale and the fritters were greasy. I also had the nachos with chili. This was a large portion and very tasty (messy, like nachos should be). The house band was very talented and played a lot of country favorites along with some chart classics. They were a bit loud so it was a bit challenging to talk. We weren't sitting to close to the stage. Since the restaurant was extremely busy, so was our waitress. She was efficient and kept our drinks filled. There was always a line at the restroom. Alabama Jack's. If you were this close to the Turkey Point nuclear plant with its blaring meltdown klaxon tests every Friday ("Woooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!") you'd be drinking this much too. I hadn't been to Alabama Jack's in over 10 years.... wasn't sure if they were still open.... it's hard to tell...they have no website, their Facebook page hasn't been updated in 2 years and their phone is disconnected. Nevertheless, we decided to stop by on our way home from Key West. It's still open and hasn't changed a bit. We had the conch salad and the conch fritter, supposedly the best in the keys. Its more like a fried conch pancake. They were doing some construction so the bathrooms were closed but they had some Portapotties in the parking lot. I do like to swing by Alabama Jacks. The main reason isn't really a good reason. It's because it's in a weird spot. When going south to the keys very few people kjnow there is a second way in to the keys, that takes you to the north end of Key Largo. along that way, half way, is a restaurant in the middle of no where, Alabama Jacks. We popped in last Saturday for the heck of it. My gal had never heard or seen the place so it felt apropos to swing on by for one. they had just opened and almost no one was there. That was perfect considering it make it easy to sit distanced and still get a table right on the water. We got a couple morning drinks and watch the wild life along the water. There small birds flitting here and there and a couple larger ones swinging through. the partially clear water made a view of long thin fish that were fun to watch swim in place going up stream of the water along the side of the restaurant. The drinks are medium sized and plenty cheap. The service is pretty good but overall its just an average roadside stop in. But it is a kooky, interesting spot. That alone I would say stop by for at least one, why not right? read more

What a good vibe. My boyfriend and I stopped here on our way into The Keys for some drinks and a bite. There was live music playing, old ladies dancing, everyone was clapping, it was a hell of a show going on. I ordered a tequila lemonade which was quite tasty. We also ordered buffalo shrimp, which to my surprise, were very delicious! They were filled with flavor and the accompanying sauce (which you really don't need) were also yummy. The service was straight to the point, which is what you'd expect for this kind of place. Unfortunately, their bathrooms were straight up gross... but also what you'd expect for this kind of place. For many years my friends and I have been riding our Harleys from Miami just to come to this little place we've always loved. Dog can attest to this statement. We've always had fun, loved the food, enjoyed the live music, and have many friends along the way. On Saturday March 6th, 2023, this was not the case. My friend and I arrived and although there is a sign at the entrance that clearly reads "wait to be seated" with no hostess greeting customers, we proceeded to sit ourselves down mainly because the restaurant was three quarters empty. In honestly have never read this sign because typically we all sit at the bar with Dog. Waitresses were sitting on a bench on their phones so we figured this would not be a problem. BIG MISTAKE. They walked passed us a few times ignoring us for about 15 plus minutes. I finally asked a young lady by the name of Christine and with a very heavy tone she replied "you have to wait to be seated at the entrance" to which I got up, walked back to the entrance and then she proceeded to pick up two menus and I already could tell this would not end well. She seemed very angry just by my very presence. Sally then came to us and she was very pleasant. Sally brought two beers very quickly and some peel and eat shrimp. Then we ordered the conch fritters and while we waited, Christina and Megan kept looking directly at our table and laughing loudly as if they were making fun of us. My friend and I decided to cancel our food order and leave because we felt so offended by this treatment. On the way out after we paid, Megan yelled at us and said "you're not welcomed back here again." It's not only our business they banned from the restaurant, but the business of at least 30 bikers who will not be returning. As you know, is bikers stick together in brotherhood. We don't tolerate disrespect of this fashion. We will miss those conch fritters, and we will miss seeing dog behind that bar. That is one cool dude, and he's the best you've got. We rode our bikes to Black point marina yesterday after this horrible experience with those waitresses and we were greeted and serviced as we expected to be serviced at Alabama Jacks. I suggest to anyone to stay away from this place until major changes are implemented. I really hope this gets to the owner and he starts checking his cameras so he can see what his waitresses are up to. Very sad experience. read more

If you're here it's because you intended to be here. It's not a place you happen upon on your way to Key West, since it's like 15 miles away from Route 1 and the Key West crowd. It's a little roadside shack of a place that caters to the biker crowd and those in the know. Obviously we end up here whenever we're in South Florida. There is nothing fancy about Alabama Jacks. It's a lot of fried food and seafood, cold beer and a handful of tropical drinks. Sadly it's become increasingly popular, so whereas the first couple times we visited we could easily snag a waterside table, the place was hopping on a Sunday afternoon when we visited and we were stuck by the kitchen. We tried a variety of apps. The conch fritters are always a fave. I also discovered their fish dip, which is my favorite I've had anywhere currently (pro tip--spend the 25 cents for the jalapeños). If you're not in a hurry to get anywhere and are willing to embrace the laidback vibe of the keys, take the long way and give this place a try! read more

This is one of those places that I have passed for YEARS and have never been to. Finally I was able to experience Alabama Jack's thanks to my hubby's suggestions. We decided one day we were both off to have a meal down in the keys. We couldn't drive too far since we had things to do later so he gave the suggestion of going to Alabama Jack's. Alabama Jack's is on card sound road right before you start getting into the lower keys. I feel like its the gateway to what I like to call "keys life". The venue is open and completely wooden. It is next to the water and you are able to sit waterside which is nice. We came in and sat down immediately next to the water and next to the bar. Perfect place to sit. Our server came immediately and gave us menus. She suggested some drinks but I went for beer since it was a hot day. The menu consists of all types of fried food. Who doesn't love all things fried? We went for a fried fish platter (I forgot the name) which I loved. Everything was fried to perfection. My hubby had the fish tacos which were also good. I was MORE than full and it met all my keys expectations. I will definitely come back to this spot especially to have few beers maybe before hitting the keys. Have been here in years and Alabama Jacks hasn't changed one bit! I love this place. It's located right off card sound road with open dining. You can sit in the middle of the restaurant, the bar, or along the boarder for a full view of the water way. I've always wanted to drive up on a boat or Jet ski just to change it up on excitement. The drive down cardsound is always nice and easy, but come with time because this restaurant is a locals favorite and is usually busy. Today we went with the Mahi tacos and the "small sampler" for two people I'll tell you we were stuffed! Holy moly I thought I had an appetite but this meal trumped me. The Mahi tacos were delicious with its fresh taste of slaw and Mahi cut. The sampler on the other had was fully loaded on the breaded side lol. Huge conch fritter, about five strips of breaded white fish, and two huge crab cakes. Trust me im not exaggerating! If coming to the key spot by and have at least an appetizer or a drink.
