Very good and flavorful Peruvian food. The lomo saltado had great flavor and the steak was nice and tender. The rice was a little salty and that would be our only complaint. The tallarin verde was excellent and had a nice creamy texture with the grilled chicken. The pasta also did not feel too heavy. Wish they hadn't sold out of their rotisserie chicken. My wife and I had dinner here today! The gentlemen who greeted us was delightful "Rudy"! The food was extremely taste full!!! Ridiculously good. And excellent, quick service too. Ceviche-- so spicy, perfectly salty and sour, the sweet potato was so sweet and delicious. We finally tried this AL TOQUE Peruvian Kitchen , a Peruvian Cuisine. They used to only operate in a Food Truck and now they have their restaurants. We came early and there were only a few of us inside sitting in the main dining area. There are plenty of customers on their Bar and a lot of in-and-out people ordering to go. We only ordered the Soltado and Fried seafood (Jalea Mixta) to try, but it took so long for our food to come out. They seemed to be focusing on the orders to go. As daughter of a Peruvian I can tell you this place is very good. We got there at 12pm on a Saturday and there were only two tables occupied. We were seated, but it did take a while to get service since there was only one person for all the tables taking order, bringing food,etc. That for me is a downside since being a Saturday in December the restaurant should have more personnel. We ordered Maracuya Sour and Chicha Morada for drinks, which was really good. For food we ordered Fish Ceviche, Yuca Frita and Chaufa de Mariscos (Peruvian Fried Rice). We found this place while looking for Peruvian food in the area. Prepared to be wowed by the full wall mural as you walk in to the right. It's just so vibrant and full of energy. Here's a second review from me. I had the Tallarines a la Huancaina-Pollo for the first time and it was amazing the Parmesan creamy pasta was packed with a home style comfort food experience. The chicken breast was cooked to perfection with balanced spices to compliment the pasta Honestly I wasn't very hungry when I arrived but I wanted to finish my meal due to how good it tasted. I ended up ordering one to go for my lunch tomorrow since I live 70 miles away. 5/5 stars The Chicha is also a must to order. It reminds of Christmas fall holiday flavors. I got one of those to go as well. 5/5 starts The owners were gracious enough to put a specific football game on so we can see it while we eat. Tried Al Toque while in Oceanside and it was a great find! We started with the calamari appetizer -- simple, crispy, and good. The Talla'nin Verdes-pollo was the star of the night, so flavorful and cooked perfectly. I also tried the Leche de Tigre which had awesome, bright flavors, but it's a little tough to share family style, so probably wouldn't order that one again. The Mariscos Chaufas was super tasty and full of flavor. For dessert, we couldn't resist the Alfajores -- you get a dozen in a little to-go box. They were soft, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth delicious and such a fun way to end the meal. Service was prompt and friendly. Came in on Saturday evening and it wasn't too busy. Few different families so not loud at all. Food was absolutely amazing. My steak was made differently this time and I personally loved it so much more. Service has been consistent and the men always make us feel welcomed. I know I need to try something new on the menu but this has been so good. Steak with a creamy pasta, like what else could you ask for. My son had the pesto pasta and really enjoyed that. Even took home his leftovers and finished them later on that night. I mention that only because he hates left overs and that means he really enjoyed it. We've been to just a few Peruvian restaurants. Some with very colorful authenticity; some with a very modern vibe. Al Torque had a very laid back come-as-you-are casual ambience, with a stuffed white llama posted to greet us by the front entrance. Bader (pronounced Vader, like in Darth... you know what I mean) attended to us the instant we walked in. Very friendly and welcoming customer service. Oh course we loved that. Who wouldn't? Menu showed a variety of dishes and drinks, which Bader patiently described to us and gave recommendations. We chose Pescado Ceviche for appetizer; Tallarines a la Huancaina-Pollo and Vegetable Saltado for main dishes; Torta de Chocolat for dessert; Chicha and Maracuya for drinks. Total under $100. Experience priceless, as our taste buds were taken to the rustic culinary kitchens of Peru. There were huge television screens to view sports channels for avid soccer/basketball (or whatever) sports fan to watch while enjoying their meal... we just enjoyed our meal and each other's company. The fries were skinny and soft from soaking up the sauce. The ribeye was cooked right, it had good texture and packed a punch. It was rich and tender. The slices were cut into thin strip and easy for consumption. Didn't find any fatty gelatinous pieces - all meat. The sauce that covered everything wasn't too saucy or soy saucy and provided balanced marination of salty, savory, and little bit of tangy. They provide a bottle of huacatay for you to control your own heat levels. A tiny dribble of this goes a long way and the heat can be felt. I learned that Peruvian cuisine has Japanese influences due to the immigrant population. What an interesting flavor pairing. My friend and I both got the Chaufas - Peruvian friend rice dish. I chose the chicken. It was so good. Like a warm hug in a bowl. If you like spicy food, you will love their house made Aji sauce! It adds a flavorful kick to the dish. The sauce wasn't running, held onto the pasta well, and tasted perfect. The ribeye was nicely seasoned and considering how thin the cut is, it was cooked perfectly! It wasn't overcooked like most places would do. They actually had some pink in the middle and wasn't rubbery. I loved it and because the portions were so large, I was able to split it for lunch the next day and it even held well after heating it back up! Service - Loved the staff who helped with my order. Granted, I did just order online and asked to pick it up, but the guy who handed me my order was extremely nice and lovely. Ambiance - Great space to dine inside. There's no patio, but their indoor dining space was nice. Best authentic Peruvian restaurant in O-Side! Thanks to my brother who invited me to have lunch at Al Toque after my trip to San Diego. It was definitely a good stop in for lunch. The location is right off the 5 freeway so there's easy access to and from the freeway. I believe the owner doubles up as the waiter (and he also cooks!) and always checked on us and provided some awesome service. The restaurant has plenty of seats and offers a no-frills dining experience. The food was amazing! We shared the potato appetizer which was tasty and both of us ordered the Lomo Saltado which was perfect with the fries and rice. Definitely stopping in again when I'm in the area. read more

The tallarin, aji de gallina, chaufa, and of course, the lomo saltado, are all dishes that you'd expect to find in the best places in Lima. The Huancaina sauce is fantastic. I didn't catch the waiter's name, but he was extremely helpful when ordering and nice. He checked on us multiple times throughout the dinner too. The decor and mural in the restaurant was pretty cool. We got there at about 7:30pm and they close at 9pm, hence the photos of chairs up on the tables. (Close to closing time). I really wanted to like this place in fact I haven't tried it yet because my dasher has been waiting for them to start preparing the meal for 30 minutes. I mean they haven't even started making it yet it's been over an hour since I ordered. Seems they are brushing DoorDash to side having it go to the bottom of the kitchens list. well I spent good money here close to 100 dollars and it's wrong to treat a customer like this because you don't like DoorDash fees yet there is no phone number to call for pickup either. They told the dasher they are too busy to start the order but yet the photo shows empty seats and they close in 30 minutes seems strange to me. Never have I have this experience with delivery. Shame on you. Will never order or visit again. Update they pushed it back to 8:40 now so looks like I won't be eating for two hours after I ordered it. Plus my dasher left! read more

Debated between a 3 and 4 for quite some time. The chaufa was the downer for me. It had a good texture with the soccarat, but it lacked flavor. The quality of the other things we tried convinced me to go to a 4. The pollo saltado was tasty and flavorful, and the fries were crispy, a rarity with that dish. The seafood noodle dish was quite good and tasty as well. Seafood was cooked well. One hidden gem: their maracuya drink is amazing. The crew is great, energetic and passionate about their craft.
